Book 1: Zak and Shadow New Beginning’s.

Chapter 1: Getting Started

With that voice, follow up by the pop up, Zak was acutely aware that he was only wearing a loin cloth. He also noticed that he was in some kind of clearing surrounded by trees with a small pond near by. The black wolf, if it was Shadow was oddly waving his front paw around.

Zak then noticed a blinking icon in the upper right of his vision that looked similar to a rolled up scroll. He thought about opening it. The Voice started talking again.

“This Icon represents System Messages. At any time, the System may leave a message for you, these messages are also way to guide you in your adventures.” The male voice spoke.

Zak was beginning to wonder who, or what is this so called System. He could only shake his head as he close out the pop up from his vision.

Shadow got up from where he sat. Slowly making his way towards Zak before sitting back down on his tail as he looked at Zak, with a odd looking smirk on his muzzle.

Zak looked at Shadow, it seemed as if his friend has gain some enhancements to give off facial expressions, Or it could be he could sense the intent? Either way, Shadow was offering his paw to him to grasp. As soon as he accepted his paw, a pop up once again showed it self.

(Shadow has requested to become your Companion. Do you accept? Yes or No.)

He mentally clicked Yes. The pop up disappeared, as a new Icon was place on the bottom left next to a icon that looked like a stick figure. The new Icon was a wolf head.

“Well. . . now we can understand each other now. . .” A strange sounding growling voice spoke inside Zak’s head.

Zak eyes went wide as he realized that he could hear Shadow in his head. “Shadow? You can understand me and talk. . . “ Zak spoke as he grasp his head, noticing that he was bald. “This is just gets weirder by the moment.” He says as he wonders what next.

Shadow makes some strange grunting and hard panting sounds while standing back up on all four, while walking off towards the pond. “You are not wrong there. . . You might want to open that bag next to you. . .” he says in Zak mind as he walks off.

Zak looks over to his left, to see a bag of some sort. He reached out to grasp it, noticing it had a strap as well as a flap with a leather type string holding the flap secured to the back, which was made out of leather as well. It was fairly a small bag, just small enough to be tied to a belt if he had one on. Zak slowly untie the string, while opening the flap to see what was inside. He placed his hand into the opening to suddenly get a yet another screen to pop up, this time showing a grid of tiles with each square showing the item it contained. This seemed like a inventory system, with a grid of 5 x 5, some items taking more then one square, depending on what it was.

There was a few healing potions, which was obvious with a number beside the vile it self. A simple dagger, as well as few items for cooking and making a small camp. However, there was no shred of clothing. he removed his hand from the bag, which in term made the inventory screen vanish. He was about to comment about having no clothes when the Male voice spoke once again, follow up by a selection screen.

“As you are new to this world, you are given the choice of choosing the Race you want to be. Please make a selection, as this can only be done once.” The System male voice spoke.

Zak glance at the list that pop up. There was only 3 types of Race he could pick from. It seemed as this world was almost humanoid only type.

  1. Human A common race that has a wide range of class selection. As well as a average magical skills.

  2. Dwarf -- A Race that is with high endurance and skilled at crafting.

  3. Elf – A race that has a high level of intelligence and magical abilities.

He already knew he was going to select human, as the other Races tend to have much more baggage then what Humans come with.

When he made his selection, nothing happen. He guess cause he was already defaulted as a human to begin with. Then the System voice spoke once again.

“Now that you have selected your Race, you must pick a Class” it says as yet another screen appeared in his vision.

  1. Warrior -- A Class of armor and wielding of many weapons. Has many Sub-branches to follow.

  2. Mage -- A Magical class. Focus mostly on elemental magic for defense and offensive.

  3. Healer -- A Class featuring the art of Healing with Magical and Herbel medicines.

  4. Ranger -- A Woodsman type class that specialize in long range weapons, as well as a scouting ability.

  5. Monk -- This class focus on improving one self in Mind and Body.

  6. Druid -- A Class that is Nature based, as well as Spiritual which has several Sub-Branches.

Zak read through all the Classes in the list, and knew already which Class he wanted to be. So he selected Druid. The screen vanished, as a odd sound came from his right side, which a treasure chest seemed to emerge from the ground as if a puddle of liquid was reforming it self into the object it once was.

He Stood up, while slowly approaching the chest. Zak place his hand on the lid, and gave a slight tug upwards, which open the chest. Inside it was a set of clothing, a few books, another bag next to a belt. It seemed like he will be wearing a robe of some kind.

As Zak reached for the robe, a strange little eye icon appeared on the robe it self, he willed it to trigger.

As soon as he trigger it, a pop up seemed to come and shrink to a flashing icon next to the scroll icon on the upper right of his vision. But, as fast as that happen a pop up with the item description appeared.

The Robe of Nature

The pop up only stayed up just long enough for him to read it while he place the robe on him self, noticing it had also a hood. He glance back in the chest, grasping the belt, as he examine it while placing it on.

Zak reached back into the chest and pulled out a small book.

A Magical Skill book. Once read the book will disintegrate and the knowledge will be yours.

His eyes widen in glee , at the first spell he will get to learn. Zak open the book to the first page, as he started to read, the book and what felt as if he was in a trance as the book floated with the pages flipping to the next page faster and faster, before a sudden clapping sound of the book closing and just fell apart in a shower of dust towards the ground. His mind was throbbing as if he just cram a whole exam in a day of study.

Zak came back to him self, blinking a bit, before he noticed Shadow was slowly lapping at the water, with his back to him, and his rear legs spread a bit wide as his tail was swaying back and forth. He noticed Shadows ball sac. Zak got a devilish idea.

He spoke a few words as a small vine started to emerged between Shadows rear legs. The Vine quickly with quick movement with such dexterity wrapped around the ball sac, and gave a gentle squeeze, causing

Shadow to give out a loud yelp while jumping forward into the pond. As soon as this happen, Zak cancel the spell causing the vine to vanish just as quickly as it appeared, before Shadow could catch on to what it was.

Zak reached in the chest once more to grab the small sac, attaching it to his belt, along with the other bag on the other side. He could hear a growling snarl coming from the direction of the pond.

“You know, that there is such a thing as combact log right. . .” Shadow whispered into my mind, cause me to wince at being caught.

I looked at my Icons and noticed a Icon that looked like two swords clashing. I open it, to see. . . Sure enough, there was a log of what I did and the results.

(You have Cast Vines)

(Vines caused 0HP to Shadow)

Shadow was walking back after shaking off the water from his paws. “Well, I wasn’t trying to hurt you. Did you get a bit taller?” Zak asked as he noticed the difference in the size of Shadow.

“Yes, I chose a different race. . . You would know this if you look at the Companion screen. . .” He says as he sat down while watching me finishing up on equipping my small dagger. The other small bag only had a few items for various skills to learn.

Zak open the Companion screen, and began to read Shadows stats.

I closed the screen after reading through his stats. “So you picked a Great Dire Wolf? Why so small?” I asked as I looked around my surroundings.

Shadow gave a sort of a grunt before speaking in my mind. “I will grow in time, from what my screen told me, my level and my age will effect how big I become. . . He got up and started towards the only opening that was open in the surrounding trees and bushes, I followed in his tracks.

“So, basically you going to get too big for our play time. . . That is going to suck. . “ I spoke while we came to the edge of the opening. A strange feeling of something like a thick wall of some kind of substance seemed to hold me and shadow back before we just pop right through it.

The male voice spoke once again as we took our first step. “You have left your personal starter area. At any time you die, you will return to the area. Note that you can change your starting area by meeting certain requirements. A few Quest has been given to you, which you can review by going to the Q Icon.” I noticed the Icon in question and open it. Seeing several normal standard quest, such as kill xx so many and so forth. One Quest caught my eye though. (Quest: Discover a Unclaimed settlement)
