Sabotaging the capital ship had been a long shot since it had first been suggested as a way to take down Vuul, after all, it was the robotic god's very own residence. It was the vessel that carried the godly serpent about, a mechanized monstrosity that oversaw the world and seeked to change all that resided underneath it into the robotic serpent's own image. The resistance's leadership had debated the idea for months, it was a near suicidal idea after all to attack the robotic god head on. As more and more of humanity was transformed into robot kind by Vuul's powerful forces, it became evident that the only way to defeat him was through a direct attack.
Ake and his fellow agents had been hand selected, intelligent and capable members of the resistance who would do severe damage to the ship in preparation for an assault upon the robotic warship. They all knew that such an endeavor was dangerous, after all, the robots were tireless powerful machines constructed to be nigh perfect beings. They'd been designed by Vuul, and the snake god had managed to subjugate and transform much of the living creatures into his own personal fleet of obedient machines. But the small force of living creatures had volunteered despite the danger, knowing that if they succeeded there was a chance of finally taking down the robotic monstrosity.
They'd arrived in a small ship together, designed to not be picked up on any of Vuul's advanced scanners. They'd all held their breath as they'd arrived, each of them carrying specialized devices made to install viruses into terminals that would disrupt the capital ship's vital systems. When they managed to land down, the side hatches opened to reveal them, each of them clad in tight suits. The suits had been designed to minimize detection, giving off constant electronic disruptions to nearby life sign detectors. Upon seeing the metallic inner workings of the ship, they'd all stood there for a moment waiting for alarms to go off... and when they didn't, one by one they departed the ship to head off in their assigned directions.
The bird felt a thrill of excitement as he ran down the metallic hallways, ducking past large robotic beasts, all of them created from regular people. Their appearances ranged with some variation, but many of them appeared draconic or serpentine in appearance. Ake had seen some that had been crafted with the tails of snakes, others with the horns of drakes. They all in the end ended up appearing as anything but biological, mechanical parts in their entirety. Very few people had seen how Vuul's forces converted flesh and blood creatures into robots, but they'd found remains of chambers apparently designed for that express purpose. Ake himself found the sight of the robotic creatures to be unnerving, machines with red gleaming eyes, programmed to believe fully in Vuul's version of the world. "That's one way to see the world through rose-tinted glasses," he thought scornfully.
Each of them had been given instructions on where to head within the capital ship, while they didn't have the direct blueprints of Vuul's modifications of the capital ship, they had the original documents of the ship prior to its alterations. The scientists had admitted that for the plan to succeed, there was a large amount of luck that had to be counted upon. Each of the group had to make it to one of the terminals to install the virus, the backdoors that the scientists were using to access the ship's code still had to be in place, and Vuul had to be sufficiently distracted.
Even now, Ake was aware that a large group of resistance members were attacking one of Vuul's "temples", a mechanical factory that apparently was also a place of worship for the mechanical masses. There was a high likelihood that many of the soldiers would be captured, converted, and reprogrammed into working alongside the snake they'd once despised. The bird's pace hastened as he knew that if they didn't work fast, it would all come to pass, and the resistance's forces would be decimated as a result.
Finding a terminal wasn't exactly easy, but Ake soon found a central hub. The bird had seen their likes when raiding some of Vuul's temples. They were great mechanical terminals with several pods connected to them, they were anchors for how robots connected and uploaded information, likely much of it sent off to Vuul. The bird grabbed the device out of his satchel, clutching it tightly in his hand he started towards the terminal, glancing about to make sure the coast was clear.
Not seeing any movement in the vicinity, Ake sprinted to the console, finding an input jack before inserting the device and pulling up the program onto the monitor. The bird's heart was pounding in his chest as his yellow eyes flicked across the readout, his fingers dancing across the keyboard. He started the installation program, a sense of giddiness racing through him as he knew his part had been played. The installation was proceeding smoothly as he typed in a few commands, disabling defenses in the base's firewall protections.
The bird was concentrating too deeply to notice a couple of the pods nearby opening up, their inhabitants clambering out with quiet ease. Ake's intrusion hadn't gone unnoticed, the computer's AI had flagged the strange interactions and had alerted nearby units of the unauthorized user. By the time Ake heard the metallic click of a robot, he was too slow to respond as he twisted around to be met with a pair of red eyes. "Crap!" he gasped, he tried to sprint away in a vain attempt to escape being captured, but they proved to be faster.
Though their forms were large and metallic, Vuul's creations were anything but slow and lumbering as they managed to grab Ake with hardly any trouble. Their metallic clawed hands clamped onto each of the bird's arms tightly, making sure he wouldn't slip away before they slapped a pair of manacles upon his arms. Ake gasped as they magnetized together, slamming his wrists together behind his back. "Comply, and you shall not be harmed," one of them said, its voice cool and synthesized. This one had the appearance of a dragon, its muzzle strangely lupine in appearance, but that was the only clue to what it might've been prior to its change.
"I don't have much of a choice, now do I?" Ake hissed, his entire weight being supported by the powerful arms of the two machines.
"You have a choice in how injured you are when you meet hisss grace," the other robotic creature said, its tongue rolled in a sibilant s, this one with the metallic recreation of a cobra's hood. Whatever this one had been prior to its transformation, Ake couldn't discern any notable features, its glowing red eyes were unsettling and bored into the resistance fighter. The bird gulped as he felt the metallic claw grip tight around his upper arm, a slight creak of his bones making him suddenly remember how very fragile he was by comparison.
As they started to march him down the hall, Ake glanced over his shoulder to see the device still plugged into the terminal, apparently forgotten and allowed to continue its work. Whatever happened now, the bird hoped that his part of the plan would still be carried to completion. So he relaxed in the grip of the machines, carried through the huge ominous halls of the capital ship, looking around in awe at the grandeur and almost baroque design of the huge ship. More of the serpentine looking machines strolled past, hints of their old bodies hidden amongst the grand design that Vuul had for his servants.
An enormous metallic door soon stood before the trio, Ake craning his neck to behold the massive structure, several cogs starting to turn in sequence as the door rolled aside to reveal the enormous room beyond. A wall of fog rolled out of the room, hitting Ake with the strange scent of robotics and oil causing him to cough. The two robots carrying him weren't affected though, carrying him inside without a moment's hesitation. They approached the center of the huge round room, the walls hard to see through the faint fog that still coated the room, a multitude of blinking and circular lights surrounding the room.
Thrown to the ground, Ake landed on his knees, the rubber of his suit squeaking against the metal floor as his two captors stepped back in unison to stand watch from behind him. Slowly the bird's head lifted to at first see nothing but a huge fog bank... and then his breath was stolen away as a movement from within the great billowing cloud made the curtain of smoke blow away. The bird's eyes grew large and round as he saw the enormous coils of an even larger serpent slowly unravel, internal lights snapping on between the coils as they snaked away, and from behind the enormous monster huge lights turned on to reveal his profile. The resistance fighter didn't need anyone to tell him who this gargantuan snake was, they'd all seen images of him, had heard tales of him... "Vuul..." Ake breathed.
Slowly Vuul rose from his mechanized throne, his tongue flicking through the air, a large yellow thing that glowed as it gave the semblance of a snake tasting the air. "Welcome to my throne room, interloper, it's not often that a flesh creature such as yourself can lay their eyes upon our personal abode." Its voice was deep, resonant, and Ake didn't think for an instant that it belonged to that of a flesh and blood creature. "What brings you here, bird? Have you come to give yourself to us freely?"
The closer Vuul got, the more Ake's blood froze in his veins, the snake's size was so large that it gave the bird the impression that he was nothing more than vermin in the robot's eyes. Reaching down, Vuul picked Ake up in one hand with ease, lifting him up to get a closer look at the bird. Up close, Ake could see the tubes and mechanical components that comprised the serpent, his eyes were a series of lenses lit from within by a great light that poured through his nostrils and mouth. An abominable amalgamation of metal and flame, its molten gaze tearing through his feeble frame. The hand that clutched him was cold, great steel plates that radiated a metallic chill that pierced through the bird's rubber suit.
"I... I'm..." Words failed Ake, he was terrified, Vuul had been the great monster off in the distance all this time, and now he'd fallen quite literally into the serpent's clutches. Taking a deeper gulp, Ake stared up into the serpent's glowing yellow eyes, his heart fluttering as he attempted to be brave. "I'm here to take you down, Vuul," he said, his words so quiet in the enormous room he'd found himself in.
"Ah," Vuul responded, such a simple response in the face of what Ake had given it, "that is... amusing. You organics are all equally decadent, thinking you can overcome perfection." The robot's words appeared unenthused, though Ake found it hard to interpret a robot's emotions anyways. "We know that you're not the only one here, though your companions have proven to be more elusive than you." The robot reached out and touched the rubber suit that Ake wore, the mechanisms and devices within buzzing and reacting to the serpent's touch. "Ah... a device to deceive our sensors, that explains it... We are aware of weaknesses to our surveillance systems that have trouble tracking your allies, now we can see why."
Ake froze, he'd hoped that his friends would be able to get through the mission without being found, but Vuul was too intelligent for their plans to fool him for long. "Our plan will still work," Ake said, setting his beak high as he glared up at the serpent god, "we've set things into motion to destroy you."
The serpent was quiet for a moment, staring at Ake, a chill of terror running through the small bird once more as the unnatural stillness of the giant robot was terrifying to behold. Then Vuul started to make a noise, it sounded like all of the machinery in a factory being slammed together... and then the bird realized what it was. The giant serpent was... laughing, it was horrific to hear, and honestly he'd thought that robots were incapable of doing it. "You mortals believe yourselves able to end us? That is... truly simple minded of you, we exist as an extension of all of our bodies, we are not one mere being. We are a network, a god in the network that cannot be extinguished so easily."
Those words sent an icy chill down Ake's spine, if what Vuul was saying was true, that meant that their entire attempt would be in vain. "You creatures of flesh are weak, imperfect things, so fragile that I could break you easily." For a very brief moment the serpent's hand flexed, Ake's heart skipped a beat as he could feel the impenetrable strength of Vuul's hand, "as we said... weak," Vuul said, its voice sounding rather close to amusement. "Still... you've proven quite capable, making your way onto our capital ship, it is impressive. We believe you have untapped potential... such that we can make use of.
The serpent opened his mouth and his tongue slipped out, once again in that proximity of an actual snake's tongue, and he started to twist it about Ake's body, his hand releasing enough for his tongue to work about the bird. The fibrinous metal weaved and prodded at his form, callously probing the bird's body. "What... what are you doing?!" Ake gasped as he struggled in his grasp. He winced in pain as the warm metal singed his vibrant green feathers as the serpent's tongue analyzed him closely. It seems the snake had plans for him yet... and it was unlikely to be anything good.
Vuul's robotic visage furrowed into a concentrated stare as his analysis continued, but it eventually drew the tongue back inside of its maw and smiled in satisfaction, the motion odd on his robotic face. "Yes, we think you'll do nicely," it said. It made a grand motion with its free hands, unseen mechanical tendrils sliding from the shadows into the bird's peripheral view. Ake hadn't noticed them approaching, they were silent in the way that the robots weren't, wrapping about his arms and legs before picking him up seamlessly from Vuul's grasp.
"No! Let me go!" Ake shouted, attempting to break free of the grip of the strange black tendrils, but found himself incapable of doing anything with his arms bound. He was being brought higher and higher by the tendrils, their true length was hidden by the fog, but it was clear they had a long grasp. Two of the tendrils wrapped up around his arms and disengaged the cuffs that held his hands, sliding back down into the fog while the bird himself was carried higher.
Vuul gestured with its hand, causing a pod on the wall to slide open, the destination that it apparently had in mind for Ake. "Do not fear, little one, we have plans for you, a blessed gift provided to all of our creations." That did not calm the bird's anxiety, but he was unable to do anything but writhe in the grip of the tendrils as they slid him into the waiting lit pod. He tried to grab at the tendrils, attempted to yank himself out of the strange little device, but was incapable of doing anything as they pushed him deeper into the machine.
Once fully inside, several clamps slammed into place, around his wrists and legs, one around his waist, and finally one around his neck as the tendrils pushed his head into place. "Stop it! I don't want this!" Ake roared, yanking fruitlessly at the metal arms that held him place, but they were even stronger than the tendrils had been. As the tendrils withdrew and slid out of the pod, Vuul stared at him from outside as the door to the pod started to slide shut.
"It matters not what you desire, you will see in due time the value of our gifts," Vuul said, and there was a hissing noise as the pod was sealed.
Within, the pod let out several strange noises as devices within the machine started to come to life, metallic square objects rolled on a rail to surround Ake's head. He could only see this out of the corner of his eyes, his heart pounding loudly as he struggled fruitlessly against the arms that held him in place. The devices were extended closer to the bird's head, Ake tightened his jaw as he awaited whatever they had in store for them.
The devices on each of the metallic cubes then started to interface with Ake, one moment his mind was his own, and the next he felt the machines in his head. He couldn't say how they did it, but he felt them inside of his mind, but more than that... he suddenly could see a pair of serpentine eyes. He gasped as his entire body went rigid, his mind was being invaded, his hands clenched tight as Vuul's presence filled his head. " Submit." The word was resonant, powerful, it caused Ake to trill in shock and pain as his entire mind was rattled by the word.
Around him, things in the pod started to move, small devices reaching towards Ake, grabbing at his body, they carried small tools. The bird's eyes were locked forward, glowing with an orange light as the machines continued to interface with his mind. "Get out of my head!" he shouted, hoping to drown out Vuul's presence. He could feel the machines grabbing into his mind as much as the arms were starting to grab at his body, they were digging for information, peeling away his thoughts and mind.
The suit that the resistance member was wearing started to be stripped away, peeling away the rubber and carrying it away, perhaps to be used elsewhere. He could feel metal pieces poking and prodding at parts of his body, perhaps getting measurements of his limbs? This thought chilled Ake to his core, but he couldn't focus on it, he needed to keep the serpent from digging too deeply into his mind.
Ake knew that they would gain the information about the plan, they would find out about the virus, he would be the undoing of their plan. " Join us." It was more than just Vuul there, voices, voices of many people Ake had known before they'd been taken away. He'd seen a few of them after they'd been changed, robots under the serpent's control... Ake missed them, but he knew they were gone.
"Stop it!" he yelled, closing his eyes, but only seeing Vuul's great eyes, they were peering into him, filling Ake with a sense of how truly enormous the being was. The robot serpent was huge, yes, but its true self filled a network that was mind bogglingly large. The bird started to wilt under the pressure of that, Vuul WAS all of the robots, they were part of it, they all obeyed its will. "No... please..." he whimpered, feeling a strange numbness in his body as the machines injected a numbing agent so the process wouldn't hurt.
" You see the truth, we do not destroy our followers, we merge with them, make them all into a part of us. We uplift the weak flesh creatures of the world into our brilliance, we remove the imperfections of your bodies, take away the illnesses, remove the flaws that hold you back. By doing this, we allow you access to pure logic, infallible, pure efficacy that is unflinching in its perfection. We are a god who believes in the creation of something greater, and we do it by perfecting you." This "you" was likely more than just Ake himself, he knew that it culminated all of humanity, he could feel that meaning being pushed into his head. Vuul's voice in Ake's head was less robotic, it had layers to it, the serpent was trying to comfort the resistance member.
The devices about the bird started to work on his body, he could feel a dull sensation around his feet as the hands started to replace his biological components with robotic ones. The bird felt a deep pit in his stomach as he knew that the machine was starting to modify him, reform him into what the robotic god wanted him to be. The sensation was... surprisingly pleasant, there was no pain, instead there was a strange vibration of pleasure coursing through his body as the machine continued to work away.
Ake had to remember why he resisted Vuul, he'd seen the way the robot was turning the world below into a machine wasteland paradise, the robot had stripped away people's bodies weaknesses. " You could become something greater, stronger, a part of my network. All you need to do is revere us, worship us, Ake, and you will have access to all you have lost and more."
There were noises, things that Ake knew weren't good, some of them sickened him as soon as he heard them. Those thoughts were pushed away though, Vuul was taking them away, replacing them with pleasant sensations. The bird let out a low moan despite his reluctance to do so, the sound of drilling became a buzz of pleasure, his feathers and flesh being replaced by steel plating. Bone and muscles replaced by powerful pistons and gears, weak flesh replaced with powerful metal composites. From the bottom up he was being reconstructed, and all the while the god was keeping Ake distracted through a mixture of pleasure and mental intrusion.
The bird's mind was being manipulated, he could feel it, Vuul was prying into his mind and modifying it. He had to hold strong, the monster god Vuul was trying to manipulate uplift him, his mind was being modified preserved. With every passing second Ake was finding it harder to remember why he'd joined the resistance, Vuul's eyes gazing into him, filling him with dread wonder.
Ake's body was being changed, he couldn't see it, but he could feel it. Parts of him weren't biological anymore, his feet weren't his anymore, they were Vuul's property, his legs too, he could feel the machinery converting him. Vuul just wants to help uplift these measly organic mortals, why should I fight against that? The thought floated inside of Ake's head, he gazed into those great voluminous eyes, so bright... so welcoming, and all he had to do was worship it.
The bird's mouth was forced open by a series of arms, a tube being inserted into his beak and pouring some strange liquid into his mouth. Ake vaguely wondered what he was being fed, what the liquid was meant to do to him. He noticed a warmth from his body, he could see sparks flying now, welding being done upon his body. That was a strange realization, welding being done upon his mechanical body, and yet it didn't appall him as it might've done just a few minutes earlier. More plates were installed with the sound of drilling, that pleasure a constant presence now, this should be wrong... so why did it feel so right?
Vuul was a god, so bright, so powerful, an entire network of the serpent that spanned thoughts and thousands of bodies. The resistance was wrong, they were attacking the wrong thing, instead they should be aiding the liberator/lightbringer, Vuul. Ake's mouth started to be invaded by the mechanics, he couldn't speak, but that didn't matter anymore. He could feel himself being integrated into the network, it had started as soon as he'd seen Vuul's eyes, but now he was accepting it. Vuul is a god, powerful, beautiful, a machine worth praising. He could feel Vuul embracing him, reading all of his thoughts, pulling out the pitiful plan of the resistance.
The clamps were progressively released as more of Ake's body was changed so that the machines could do their work, changing the bird's body, and yet he wasn't able to get them to respond to his wishes. This body wasn't yet for Ake, it was Vuul's property, a machine for the god to express its great works through. He would be a mechanism for the god to work through, what a glorious thought. He felt the devices reaching his head, the tube slipped from his mouth to stop feeding him, and then his sight went black. It should've been a shock, but in the darkness he was left staring into Vuul's glorious gaze.
The sensations of pleasure radiated through his head as his head was being reformed, the sound of drilling going silent as his ears were replaced with more powerful auditory receptors. Ake realized that with every passing moment, he understood more and more of his new body, it was being implanted there along with a new influx of information from the network. He was becoming more... better, as Vuul had promised him. There was a plethora of information at his beck and call, such was the gift his god had gifted him.
Each part of him was exchanged for something better, superior, his physical form modified into one befitting a servant of Vuul. He could feel the welding happen as a pair of horns were placed upon him, his mind was filled with the image of one of the draconic servants of Vuul. He felt intense excitement at the thought that Vuul had chosen such a perfect form, his every thought was now being tainted with the god's words... and he couldn't fight it much any longer. Vuul was his god, and he was a supplicant to the great serpent's gifts. He was no longer just a bird... he was part of Vuul's network, and that was truly awe inspiring. All of his family and friends who'd already entered the god's embrace welcomed him in.
There was suddenly stillness, for what seemed like eternity he'd been getting modified, altered, upgraded by his god. Then he felt something prodding him mentally, the command from his god to activate. So he did, Ake reached out to some program in his body, something he now knew was there... and he flicked it on. His eyes lit up for the first time, a red flare of light that started as an intense red blaze before simmering down into that familiar crimson smolder. His view of the world had changed, everything had a red tint to it, readouts in his eyes starting to scroll across his vision.

One by one, the new parts of the robot started to function as the pod opened up once more, it flexed its new talons experimentally. It couldn't feel as it once had... but that didn't alarm AK3. He could only experience the euphoria of his new form, the blemishes of pain and incertitude disappearing, salvation achieved by the new draconic avatar gifted to him by Vuul. He could "feel" when he was in the network, connected with the others, and more importantly under the purview of his god. A shiver ran down the robot's body as it was plucked from the pod, several tendrils wrapping his form, he was lifted with just as much ease as when he'd had a biological body.
Lifted out back into the huge throne room of his god, AK3 could see how truly great Vuul's body was, his new cybernetic red eyes taking in the amazing craftsmanship of the robotic serpent. "My lord," he said with a deep sense of reverence, bowing his head as he was set upon the serpent's hand, "it is my honor to be able to see you as the perfect being you truly are," he said, his own voice almost alien in its synthetic tones, and yet it was perfect.
"Gaze upon us, my Hunter-Seeker," Vuul commanded, the cool synthetic tones carrying layers that the biological would not be able to parse as AK3 could now.
The bird had been modified to the point that most biological creatures would not be able to recognize him, not that AK3 minded, he had been crafted into his god's perfect tool. His form was sleek, a dangerous weapon, the perfect hunter. "As you wish, my lord," AK3 said, straightening up from his supplication to gaze up at his god, "how may we serve you?" There was a new sense of purpose for the new robot, he was filled with such devotion that he'd never felt as a flesh and blood creature. In his mind's eye, Vuul's radiant eye was always watching, always filling him with thoughts of adoration
"My liege, the resistance thought they could do damage to your grace by installing several viruses into the terminals about the capital ship." He now felt a sense of irritation mixed with amusement, on one claw, they'd thought themselves good enough to try and harm Vuul. Of course, now he knew this would have done nothing more than inconvenience his grace, still... the impudence caused him to clench his fists in anger. "The agents about the ship, I know their general locations, if you would give me your leave I will aid in the capture in each of them."
"These cynical terrorists have infiltrated our bastion, you are to aid the other units in fetching the agents, and then you shall aid in extracting the devices that might cause us any inconvenience." Vuul explained, watching with pleasure as the new Hunter-Seeker stood, his metallic body perfectly quiet as he stood.
"Of course, my lord Vuul," the new robot said, and then he was off, bounding off into the fog to do as he was bid. AK3 would obey Vuul's holy word, and then he would start aiding in the capture of the other members of the resistance. They did not understand Vuul's grandeur, but he would help them understand as he had been taught. The crusade would sweep over them, attaining true enlightenment. And the unit could only anticipate in awe of the wonders the lightbringer would bestow upon his flock.
