Caiji sat on her couch on New Years Eve, watching the countdown as the orb lowered slowly and fireworks were already starting to go off. Normally she would be at her own New Years event, but not this year. This year had been terrible. A relative of hers died early in the year, her pet in the middle of the year, and her boyfriend dumped her in November- so the year had been garbage from one end to the other. She now had no one to even go to a New Years party with, so she just sits with her legs up on the couch, watching TV in her underwear with a blanket wrapped around her.

"I'd wish for a better year but... what is the point? It is not like a new year actually changes anything, it is just a divider line humans made up to help measure the passage of time. Everyone acts like all their problems magically reset January 1st, but nothing will actually change... nothing ever changes. Sigh."

The ball finally dropped to the bottom of the TV screen as everyone shouted the countdown to zero and then started cheering as the fireworks really kicked off. The orb however continued to fall lower- falling out of the bottom of Caiji's TV, thumping against the floor and rolling a bit toward her.

"What... the..?"

She stood up, walking over cautiously to the glowing ball. In her house it was only about the size of a softball- large enough to fill a hand and glowing white. It had a good bit of weight to it- the orb is solid, whatever it is actually made out of. There is no hole in her TV for it to have been able to fall out of, so how the hell did it get here? What actually IS it? Caiji was not used to staying up quite so late so she was very tired, and decided to go to bed soon after. Still now knowing what the orb is or what to do with it, she brought it to bed with her, sitting it on the nightstand beside her pillow.

She woke up fairly early the next day in despite having been up late the night before. She woke up a bit confused at first, feeling movement around her, even though she no longer shared a bed with a boyfriend. Something was pushing on her head? It is shoving her down the bed!! She quickly sat up and heard something rake up the wall, spotting only briefly something stuck to her head. Caiji was still very confused- there is no one there to push her. She got up and closed her closet door to use the full body mirror on the back of it and gasped at the sight of herself! She had large horns! The horns growing in jabbed into the headboard of the bed, and growing out of her against it was what had been shoving her down the bed!

There is no blood- the horns themselves pulled and bunched up the skin at their base tightly enough that the broken veins could not leak, and before long they transformed to flow around the horns. Every few moments the base of the horns felt almost itchy and the odd sensation of the bone of her skull moving and expanding up into the horns started. The growth is fairly slow and stuttered, so she had a few moments to rest between each few moments of growth. When they got longer though, they started to branch... these are not horns; they are antlers. The tines of the antlers are unusually straight, so the overall shape remains fairly narrow and very pointy.

Caiji groaned, holding her forehead at the base of the horns as if she could somehow hold them in with her hands, but they kept pushing out larger and larger! By the time they stopped growing her antlers were longer than her arms are! She would have to duck to get through doorways! She also spotted the white glowing orb again behind her in the reflection.

"Grrr... that ball did this to me, didn't it? Ugh. Well I wished things would change... now I changed. Damn ball turned me into a human coat rack." She sighed heavily. "Just my luck, I suppose."

The most unusual thing to Caiji however is how normal the antlers seemed to feel on her. Every time she passed through a doorway she knew exactly how low to bow to get through it without catching them on the top as if she had done it before. She knew she should be freaking out about being changed like this but for some reason was not. Since the changes happened right after she got the orb, she obviously blamed that for her change, so when she finished her usual morning routine Caiji attempted to look it up on google. If it happened to her, surely it must have happened to someone else, at some point? She tried googling about the ball but... there are millions of types of balls in the world. Even strictly speaking of magic orbs only... there are a good number in various mythologies around the world. If she doesn't know what the ball actually is or is called, it is kind of impossible to find anything. Since she has antlers she attempted to search 'deer orb' but that brought up nothing.

Caiji ended up hanging her empty coffee mug on the tines, her towel, and various other smaller objects as the day went on. If she basically has a coat rack growing out of her head, she might as well use it for something. It let her carry things while leaving her hands free still. Because they are unusually straight and narrow, she did not have to worry about accidentally scraping the wall or getting it tangled in bedsheets. It was awkward to lay down with though- because the tips touched the wall over the bed, so the farthest up the bed she could be still put her head at the 2/3rds mark, forcing her to move the pillow down, but that also meant her feet were just barely on the bed. Caiji was a freelance graphic designer at least, so she did not actually need to go out to go to work, so she did not have to worry about anyone spotting her strange condition.

That night when she returned to the bedroom to sleep, she poked her head out the window to enjoy the cooler night air. As soon as the soft, cool night breeze caressed her cheeks, she felt the skin squirm under her nose! Above her upper lip but below her nose, two plump bumps formed! She felt them but had no idea what they were, they felt soft and rubbery, but also quite sensitive so she did not prod at them too much. They stretched again, turning into chubby cones, and then again into little noodles of skin! The sensation of stretching tissue progressed further out from her face as the tubes of flesh grew longer and longer! They drooped from their weight and still grew longer! By the time they finished growing they were long enough to touch her breasts if she tilted her head down.

"Well... that certainly is not deer. Catfish whiskers... what kind of freak is that orb turning me into?"

Caiji furrowed her brows and thumped her index and thumb together quickly to her side, and surprised herself when she squashed a mosquito that had been approaching her to take a bite! She did not even look at it, and killed it effortlessly with two fingers! Even if she had been looking at it- it is pitch black out, she wouldn't have been able to spot it. The whiskers allowed her to FEEL where the mosquito was! Whiskers are filled with hyper sensitive nerves allowing you to sense vibrations and pressure changes in the air around you- allowing you to FEEL motion. These particular fleshy whiskers were meant to work in water though, so they are not as effective as others would be in this situation.

Caiji looked at the orb sitting on the nightstand again, and wondered if she should just pitch it out the window. It still seemed to be changing her. This seemed unlikely to be the last change and she did not want to let it turn her into a freak. On the other hand something told her to keep it. If nothing else- it was the most logical cure for her transformation as well. If the orb can give her animal traits, it can theoretically also take them away, she just has to figure out how to actually use the ball. After pondering her orb, Caiji plopped in bed and went to sleep, hoping to wake up fully human again tomorrow.

Caiji slept well and woke up early again, quickly looking herself over the moment she was fully awake to see if she had been transformed again. She sighed in relief when she did not find anything changed, glancing at the orb as if to thank it for leaving her alone at least; though her existing changes were definitely still present. She wandered to the bathroom and did a double-take at her reflection.

She knew something was wrong but it took her a few moments to actually spot the difference- because the change is her eyes themselves. Her irises are supposed to be ice blue, but turned cyan, and now as she watches they turned even further. The iris is actually several layers of a web-like membrane, and the color of each layer was changing individually, making the color appear to gradually shift, since they overlap. Cyan turned to seafoam green, and then to a bright emerald green as the final layer of the iris shifted. Her pupils had also changed shape! Vertical slits! But, too fat to be reptilian- they are almond shaped... feline. That is why her iris are such a vibrant green as well- they are partially reflective, allowing her to see in the dark, and making her eyes look almost crystalline. Catfish whiskers, deer antlers, cat eyes... what the heck was this orb trying to do??

Before she could even exit the bathroom, Caiji winced and held her hands a moment feeling a strange squirming. The muscles in her fingers were moving on their own. It almost felt like an incoming muscle cramp but pain did not follow. She groaned and held her hands out in front of herself, afraid as the bones started to click, and the ends of her fingers looked like they were broken! While her fingers remained relatively straight, the last segment on each one snapped backwards! It did not really hurt- it just felt like a dull ache, like she cracked her knuckles on accident.

"Ooookay, well this change is considerably more alarming than the others..."

Caiji's fingers now seemed to be inverted. When she bends her fingers in to make a fist, the last segment of each finger pull straight. When she straightens her fingers, the last segment folds back over the top of the middle segments. Thankfully this change did not seem to do anything to her thumbs- they remained exactly the same. Before she could wonder too much, the same change also took her feet, causing her to stumble back against the wall to take weight off her toes as they transformed. Again- the largest toe seemed immune to the change, leaving one digit on each limb.

Now Caiji was really worried. The ball's latest change was broken fingers and toes? This isn't even an animal trait- its just a straight up mutation! Very subtle at first, a pulsing pressure started to slowly build in the ends of her digits as well, hinting at still more changes to come. Her digits started to look puffy, and felt a bit bloated, but as it inflated a bit further it seemed too uniform to be simple swelling. When the skin color started to brighten to a deeper tone of peach she realized the skin was getting thicker, and fat deposits were growing under it... she is growing paw pads! Across the top of her palms and the end of the middle segment of each finger... but again, ignoring her thumb and big toes entirely.

In exploring the changes she also noticed the nail on her thumb and big toe felt soft! She could bend it by pushing in on it hard enough. The throbbing in her digits became more and more intense till they felt a sharp pain, causing her to collapse onto the floor since it happened in her feet as well as her hands. Her nails lifted up, bleeding a bit at the base as they were torn off the ends of her fingers and toes, and a bone thorn rose up extending from the last segment of her digits! The thorn started to bleed keratin, forming a new nail off of it, but also continued to grow a bit itself. This new nail followed the shape of the bone hook, making them sharp claws, and as they grew out they formed long, narrow, and hooked like talons. It was only now that Caiji realized why her digits deformed the way they did. Retractable claws... the paws of a cat- a very large cat by the look of them. Tiger claws. That is also why her thumb and big toe were unaffected... tigers do not have thumbs.

Caiji attempted to look up tiger and cat ball, then catfish orb, but no dice, still no results. The orb had a deep bag of tricks apparently, so she had no idea what it was going to do to her next and did not want to have to find out. For some strange reason however; Caiji was still not in any sort of panic. She is worried, but not distressed, she remains calm against all odds. She tried to go about her day as normally as possible, and was able to do it surprisingly well. She was worried about what the orb would do to her, but at the same time was also fully aware that she had no knowledge of how to stop or reverse it right now, so there was no point in being distressed over it. Caiji can only do what she can do- and currently she cannot do anything about her transformation, so there is no point in worrying about it. All worrying will do is drain her energy, it serves no purpose.

She was watching TV later that day when she noticed a very gentle pressure on her scalp. She would have ignored it on its own because it barely felt like anything- but her attention was stolen back from the TV when she seen her hair squirming lower on her torso! Her hair is rather flat, hanging straight to her collar and a shimmering raven black. It is growing longer now! It especially grew fast in the front- her hair had been cut into straight bangs but they were now removing themselves, catching the hair of her bangs up with the length of the rest, immediately covering her eyes as it rolled over her face! Caiji sat up and shook her head to knock the hair out of her eyes and looked at the bottoms of the hair, taking a moment to realize what she was looking at. Bizarrely her hair started to change color, but from the bottom up! It started to turn from black to a deep blood-red, and also went from perfectly straight to curly! Her hair curled as it changed color, rolling itself up, but also growing longer at the same time, causing it to also billow out to the sides as the curls fought one another for space! Even her eyebrows changed color, but did not become curly, instead they became very bushy! Her simple black hair turned into a massive mane of bouncy dark red curls! It almost looked like the mane of one of those mythical liondogs!

She was so determined to enjoy relaxing and watching television that Caiji lost track of time, so it was already dark by the time she got up to make herself a dinner, and she was quite hungry. Caiji inhaled sharply when she opened the fridge, scanning over the food she had and trying to connect the dots to see if an actual meal could be made from any of it. She needed groceries but she did not want to wander around looking like this! She has no idea how to fix this yet even, so even if she put together a meal now; what about tomorrow? The next day? How is she going to get supplies? Her neighborhood was already kind of bad with hoodlums, she did not want to know how they would react to seeing her like this.

Caiji bent back and cried out in surprise from the odd feeling of the bone of her shoulder blades shifting! She squirmed in place as new muscles started to branch and swell, creating two soft bubbles on her back! The bubbles started to stretch the skin out into large noodles of flesh like her whiskers when they grew in- except a hell of a lot larger. Calcium jelly started to bleed out from her existing bones and condense into a putty like substance to give the growing noodles of muscle structure, and then solidified further into actual bone! A single segment of bone, then a downward joint and a second segment. The limbs grew just as thick as her arms! Since she was not at all prepared for this; Caiji had to direct them out her sleeves which were now near-bursting from having over twice the girth of limbs shoved through.

The new limbs joined into a new socket on the same shoulder blades her arms already used- but while her arms socket into the far outward edge, these new limbs socket on the downward edge further in toward her spine- closer to her center of gravity if she were horizontal. Another joint and then another segment- this final portion actually contained many bones and the very same muscles one would have in their hands; though stretched into a shape that does not resemble a hand at all.

Caiji bent them around her sides, under her arms to try to get a look at them and figure out what they are even for, since they have no real digits to manipulate anything. They join to her torso further back so it is difficult to bend them enough to be in front of herself. Caiji stiffened and flinched from a powerful prickling feeling all over the new limbs! It looked at first like it was growing a coat of fur- but the 'hairs' were far too large! Quills! Was she getting porcupine traits or something?! Once the quills grew large enough a thin cast-off outer layer burst open into a fan of millions of bristles! They are not quills either; they are feathers! It is not a second set of strange arms- they are wings! Diffused brown and two tones of grey: pale and near-black. The feathers completely overfilled her shirt, bursting the sleeves and then Caiji deliberately yanked them back, ripping the entire back of her shirt off to give them room to move. Compared to her body the wings seemed colossal and she unintentionally knocked half of the objects in the room over as they grew in! She does not have hollow bones like an actual bird- so her wings need to be considerably stronger in order to lift her. Her wings when fully opened are twice as long as she is tall. Caiji can only half-open them while indoors or she would be brushing against the wall on either side of her living room, which is the largest room in her apartment!

"Wait!" She looked at the open window. "I can get to the grocery store now!"

She doesn't have to walk to the store- she can fly, and bypass everything in between! This time of the evening there is probably going to be one store clerk and that is it. Caiji took what remained of her shirt and tied it around her breasts since it could no longer be properly worn as a shirt even if it was whole. She chuckled at her plan and climbed through the window immediately- only when she fell from the open window on the other side did it occur to her that she has never flown before! On reflex her wings opened fully and caught the wind, billowing out huge and then slammed down toward the ground, firing her up further! Her feathers stiffened to angle her up, cutting through the air pressure at an angle to ascend again, flapping several times and then relaxed a bit to just maintain altitude.

Caiji knew how to fly. She never learned how to fly, yet somehow already knew. She also knew not to be afraid of her changes, and has an unusually calm and relaxed demenour in spite of her situation. Was that ball only changing her physical body, or was it altering her mind too? Somehow imparting knowledge to her without her even being aware of it?

Caiji's vision started to distort a bit as she flew. Things toward the edges of her vision remained the same, but objects toward the center of her vision started to look much closer than they actually are. Her reflective cat iris let her see in the dark, but more than that; she can now see over much greater distances. It was disorienting though and her brain had to re-adjust to how it received information now. She was dipping this way and that to avoid objects that were still several feet away- but looked like they were right beside her because Caiji isn't used to the magnification. The wings and eyesight of a hawk. She stuck close to rooftops so if she screwed up and fell, she would only have to fall to the roof, not the ground.

She plopped down right in front of the doors, tucked her wings back and entered the store. Sure enough; there is no one at the shop other than the one clerk, who had his eyes on her the entire time with a stunned look on his face. She smiled timidly at him as she brought the groceries up to pay for them, then leaned toward him when they were done.

"No one will believe you."

And with that she left, slamming her wings down to fire herself back up into the air and fly home again, leaving the store clerk dazed and confused. Caiji hurried to the kitchen to get started, her mouth drooling at the nice steak she got herself. It is really late for dinner now, so she is starving! She clicked on a stove element, but furrowed her brow when the light did not come on. She hovered her hand over the element to see if only the indicator light was broken, but no heat either. She tried the other elements and none of them worked.

"Uuuuuugh, are you kidding me?! This stove came with the apartment! It lasted for a million years but decides TODAY it wants to finally break down??"

Caiji remembered her calm, growling a bit and then letting out a huff as she settled her nerves, but as she huffed the air distorted in front of her from the heat. She furrowed her bushy brows again and then breathed out heavily, and created several wisps of flame! She can breathe FIRE now too?! She smiled down at the thick slab of meat waiting in the pan, took a deep breath but then stuttered, stopping herself.

"Wait... that won't work. I will burn the outside before the inside is even warm."

But the Chinese learned eons ago while making stir-fry; you cook materials faster if you cut it up smaller, because the heat can get to a larger percentage of it faster. Caiji was about to look for a sharp knife to cut the steak into cubes, but then shrugged and extended her talon-like tiger claws and raked her hand over it. She basically has four knives on either hand, cutting the meat four times with a single stroke. She was able to lean far enough over that she could rinse the juice off her hand and talons while also breathing slow and heavily onto the meat, creating a cone of flames against the pan! When the flames leave her mouth they are invisible, then quickly turn blue, then white for a good distance and then tapering off to yellow flames that are furthest from her mouth.

Once Caiji had a good meal, she immediately shuffled off to bed and fell asleep the moment she hit the pillow. It was a late dinner already, and she ate so much that the food also made her tired. She had many sweet dreams of flying over beautiful fields of flowers, or watching the rain soak and clean a quiet cityscape from inside the clouds, over the raindrops.

She woke up slowly the next day, not particularly wanting to sit up and end her dreams. She rolled onto her back and let out a short grunt, reaching under herself to sweep the lump in the blankets out from under her, but when Caiji lowered her rump to the bed again she felt the lump again. She reached under herself a second time but this time just half-raised her rump and when she grabbed the lump; she could feel through it! It wasn't a lump in the bed, it is a lump on her body! She quickly kicked the blankets off and turned over, putting her butt into the air to look around her side at it. It was a large cone! Another proto-limb, but given its location there is only one type of limb it could possibly be- a tail. She only wore underwear to bed, and her panties hug to her body enough that the tail squirmed its own way out over the back of them while she was sleeping. Caiji knew she should be upset about this, and more worried that the orb continues to change her without slowing, but she just didn't have it in her at the moment. The changes didn't hurt, and it wasn't like they looked hideous or anything, just weird because they are clearly not human parts.

Using her antlers to collect the orb between two of their tines, she flicked it up into the air to catch so Caiji could grab the orb without having to get out of bed. "What are you doing to me?! I am already have parts from at least four different animals! If you are going to turn me into something at least make up your mind first!!"

There was a brief flash in her mind of a creature, but she was not expecting it and it only lasted a moment before her body curled backward from a strange sensation, interrupting the fragmented thought. What was that?? Did the orb actually try to show her what it is doing?? Her muscles in her little chubby tail tensed, pulling it longer than it is wide now, and a moment later started to grow out! There was a mild tingly pleasure and also both an inward and outward pressure as the bone, muscle, tissue, and blood flow grew in tandem. The feelings could be felt all the way up her spine but only as an echo- for the most part it was all concentrated into the area of new growth.

"Wha~?" She realized she could also mildly feel the sensation in her hand and dropped the orb. "Shit- holding you speeds it up." She flopped over to her butt was once again in the air with her face resting on the bed. "Why d-does it feel s-s-ooh, oooh.... so g-good??"

Caiji started to breathe heavier as she looked around her side at the plump limb growing out of her. The mild pleasure was actually her nerves reacting to it- telling the brain it is happening. It isn't harmful so it cannot trigger the pain receptors. The lazy arch the tail formed progressively grew in size, and soon the base started to shimmy her panties lower to make room! Her tail ended with the tail fin of a carp! It is a fish tail! Or... the fin is anyway. The rest of the tail is harder to identify, its too long and narrow to look like it belongs to a fish, and also lacks any scales... at least for now. Tiger claws, serpent tail, fish fin, liondog mane, hawk wings, deer antlers, catfish whiskers and eyes that are a hybrid of hawk and tiger. This magic ball really did not seem to be able to make up its mind. It did show Caiji what its goal was, but too briefly for her to have been able to comprehend what she seen- and knowing that holding the orb sped things along she was not willing to grab it a second time so its new resting place is on her bed.

It took Caiji some time to adjust to having a tail. She could not pull her panties up the whole way now so she could no longer wear any clothes properly- and never bothered dressing beyond her underwear because of it. Her wings prevent her from wearing most kinds of tops, and now the tail prevents her from wearing any bottoms properly! She left the tail limp at first but its so long that the fins drag on the floor- and because the fish fin is so wide she ended up collecting dust and lint off the floor and dragging it along with her, like a broom. Lifting her tail however caused it to project out from her body more, causing it to unintentionally collide with furniture and knock things over. She had to take several breaks to rest in the living room so she could at least partially open her wings too. In order to fit properly in her apartment she needs to keep them folded up- but they get cramped being forced into the same position for long periods of time.

By early afternoon Caiji winced in mild discomfort as her perception stretched wider- her catfish whiskers grew in an annoying long, sustained pulse, doubling in length! They started to take on a golden hue as they grew further out of her face, and then she shivered and cringed so hard she collapsed to the floor a moment as hairs erupted from the ends! Each catfish whisker now ended in a bushy tassel of gold hair! By the time she sat down to eat dinner her tail surged a bit larger and tensed and curled at the feeling of hairs once again growing rapidly from her flesh! Her tail gained a tassel too- large enough to hide the carp fin entirely! It looked like her tail ended in a gigantic blood red cloud! The hair is so bushy, curly, and long that someone could use the massive plume like a beanbag chair! This made it even more unweildly and difficult to fit into her limited spaces. Caiji ended up smashing several glasses, a vase, breaking a leg off the living room table... but, she was not as upset by it as she would have expected herself to be. Caiji was gradually feeling less attached to her belongings. They were easily replaced and she did not need all of them, so if they broke... oh well.

She was going to watch some movies to end off her night, but she bent over suddenly to hold onto the edge of the couch as her tail let out a long groan and surged a bit bigger again! The growth was quiet but still audible- the sound of stretching tissue almost like someone twisting a leather jacket. The growth of her tail almost looked like a subtle ripple, because it grew from the base outward. Her anus was now triangular because the base of the tail was shoving the back of her anus forward from lack of room! Her vulva unintentionally plumped in arousal and blushed.

Her entire tail seemed to pulse now with her heart, with increasing aggression. It was not growing, only pulsing. Like it was trying to get bigger but something was stopping it.
