I groaned my way back to consciousness as I felt the sense of light touch my closed eyes. My head felt like a scrambled mess, not even my hazy memories could form a proper timeline of what happened last night. The only thing I could remember was the wooden floor then, bam, nothing. I don't even have the energy to open my eyes.

Feeling around myself, I noticed there was a warmth enveloping me. This was both comforting and also confusing, didn't I fall asleep on the floor? I was lying in something soft, nice, and warm. A bed? Something else was wrapped around me. It felt like the fluffiest blanket known to man, the amount of comfort exuding from it was impossible. I honestly don't mind if I just slept here for now, even if I have no idea what's going on.

Another feeling stirred me awake, something was clutching at my right arm. I felt warm, furred fingers act like a vice as they gripped, soft padded palms tightly wrapped around my arm. Whoever was doing the grabbing was breathing into my ear. The low warm breaths tickled, causing the hair on my neck to rise. I felt something else pushed up against my side. It was soft and felt like it was covered in fur, though I didn't exactly know what it was.

Overwhelmed with nausea and curiosity, I started to slowly pry my eyes open. I winced as the light from the morning sun hit my senses. I took a moment to adjust to the brightness, my head pounding all the way. Once my blurred vision finally came to, my gaze was met by an unfamiliar ceiling. The feeling was new, for the first time in so long I'm not staring at the same ceiling.

I turned my head to see who was all grabby grabby with my arm. My gaze was met by Felicity sleeping at my side. Her whisker-filled snout was practically a couple of inches away from my face, her soft breaths now brushing against my nose. As endearing as it was, she reeked of booze. She had a tight grip on my arm, practically wrapping herself around it. To my surprise, her large, white breasts were pressing against my arm, and I could feel her nipples brushing my skin. A glance downward revealed that we were both completely topless. I also noticed that her tail wrapped the both of us in place of a blanket. The large, fluffy appendage softly swayed back and forth, gently rubbing against my chest.

I rustled a little, freeing an arm from the warmth of her tail. I slowly wriggled the arm upward until I managed to awkwardly touch Felicity's shoulder. I gently nudged, trying to wake her up. Only a soft sigh was all I got in response.

I nudged slightly harder, now causing her to grunt and shift. She released her tight grasp on my arm and rolled onto her back. She slowly lifted a hand and rested it on her forehead. She took a deep breath and groaned.

"What time is it?" she grunted while her eyes remained closed.

"Morning to you too," I replied while turning my head to look at the nearby window. The dim early light made me squint. "About early morning."

With an audible grunt, she shifted to face the other side of the bed. "Maybe we overdid it with the drinks."

"Maybe a little." I feel like I'm going to vomit.

"Ugh," she grunted as she began to sit up."I have to oversee guard rotations today."

"What? Not having the best time of your life being captain of the royal guard?" I chuckled.

"Just more paperwork is all it is," she sighed.

I sat up too, feeling the cold air of the room nip at my chest. Without Felicity's warm tail ensnaring me, I felt bare. Glancing over at her, I forgot that she still had no shirt. Even though both of us were topless, we still had our lower garments to cover our shame. Despite this, her breasts carelessly hung about as she rubbed her forehead. The cold seemed to affect her too. Her nipples were hard, causing the pink nubs to poke out of the white fur. The sight of her bosom caused my groin to stir. I caught myself staring and quickly looked away.

Felicity giggled softly. "C'mon Lawrence, this isn't the first time you saw them."

"Yeah, yeah, yeah, just privacy and all that," I said while still averting my gaze.

"You're such a gentleman," she teased.

Felicity moved behind me, crawling along the mattress until she swung her arms over my shoulders and positioned her head behind mine. I could feel her warm breasts pushing against my back and her hard nipples poking my skin. My groin hardened upon her touch.

She playfully licked the back of my ear. "Your friend down there seems to like what he saw."

I looked down to see the stiffening bulge in my pants.

"It's been a while," I said.

"Same here," she whispered, lust lining her words.

I felt one of her hands slide past my chest, down to the loom of my pants. She slipped her fingers down to touch the base of my member. The feeling caused a tingling sensation to pulsate throughout my groin. She reached further down until her entire hand was inside of my pants. I felt the soft pads of her palms slide up and down my penis, caressing it. I sighed and closed my eyes as she continued.

I rest my palm on top of her head, patting and caressing the spot between her ears. In response, she slithered her other hand down my chest and under my pants. My member was now almost fully erect. She slipped my penis out of my loincloth and wrapped both her hands around the shaft. She stroked it with her warm hands, being mindful of her claws.

However, she abruptly stopped her movements, leaving me with a disappointing feeling. Confused, I opened my eyes. With immense speed, she swiftly slinked her arms back up, covering her mouth with her hands. She shuffled toward the end of the bed and grabbed at the edges of the mattress. Hanging her head past it, she threw up.

Felicity raised her head and looked back toward me. A mix of embarrassment and regret was splayed on her face. "Fuck, Lawrence, I'm-" She quickly hung her head past the mattress again and hurled. After she did, she didn't even glance back and just muttered "I'm so sorry."

"Still a little hungover?" I chuckled as I readjusted my pants, letting my now soft member slip inside.

"Maybe a little." She threw up again.

I shuffled on the mattress to sit beside Felicity. Gently patting her on the back, I could feel her tense with each heave. Even though her situation was pitiable, I couldn't help but laugh.

"Laughing at a damsel in distress? Real mature," she grumbled as she wiped her mouth with her wrist.

"Sorry, sorry!" I said, trying to dim my laughter. "It's just so similar to our party days," I chuckled softly. "You were never really good with hangovers."

Felicity stared at me in silence. For a moment, it was awkward, until she burst out into laughter. We sat there, on the edge of the mattress, just laughing.

"How about I help you clean that up for now, yeah?" I patted her on the back. "We can finish what we started later."

Felicity's laughter died down and ended in a heavy sigh. She looked toward me with a faint smile. "Yeah, I have to get in early today anyway." An audible gag brought her head back over the mattress. "A lot of paperwork and such."

I gently rubbed her back as a form of comfort. "Where do you keep the rags in this place."

Felicity struggled to steady herself, taking deep slow breaths. "Down the hall... to the left," she said, wheezing.

I nodded and gave her a departing pat on the back. "I'll be right back."

I got up and departed the room. Upon entering the hallway I took a left. The hallway itself was a decent size, I guess being captain of the royal guard must pay well. I continued walking until I saw a slim cupboard on my left. It was full of blankets, rags, and other assortments of cloth. Each rag looked like they were made of high-quality materials. I took a stack of small rags and went back to the room.

Once I entered the room, I noticed Felicity sitting at the end of the bed with both of her hands cradling her head. A puddle of vomit rested on the ground near her paws.

"Brought the goods," I said while holding up the rags.

She rubbed her temples. "Bring one here."

I walked up to her and handed her one of the rags from the stack. She clumsily took it with a nod of gratitude and started to wipe her mouth. As she did that, I began to clean the mess on the floor. Crouching down, I placed the remaining rags over the puddle and started to scrub.

Felicity grabbed my shoulder, causing me to look up at her. "Listen, Lawrence, I'm sorry."

I smiled and let out a soft chuckle. “Felicity, it's okay."

"No, it's not okay. I fucked up our time together," she sighed. “All because I can't handle some alcohol."

"You sound silly right now. I told you it's fine." I continued to scrub away at the vomit, almost all of it was gone now. “When's the next time we can meet up like this anyway?"

That seemed to get her out of her mopey mood as she perked her ears up. “Well, let's see…" she started to scratch her chin. “Probably not tonight. Hmm. Could tomorrow night work?"

I gave a reassuring nod. “Tomorrow night it is then."

She gave off an excited giggle and slowly stood up. She stayed still for a moment, rubbing her temples while taking a deep breath. After she oriented herself, she began walking to a nearby closet.

I returned to the cleaning, which was practically done now. Standing up, I looked around for someplace to put the dirty rags.

“Hey, Where do you want these?" I called out while raising the rags.

Felicity glanced over her shoulder and then looked back into her closet. She was thoughtfully scanning all the clothes, looking at each one individually. “Uh, in the corner there." She lazily raised a hand and pointed to a basket in the corner of the room, then immediately retracted her arm to go back to examining her garb. “I'll wash them later."

I look to the basket and crumple up the rags into a rough ball. Recoiling my arm, I threw the rags, hoping for them to land in the basket. However, they came up short and missed. I have been throwing flasks and potions all my life and I miss that? I must still be drunk.

Sighing, I walk over to the corner to pick up the rags. Once picked up, I absolutely slammed them into the basket. Satisfied with this major accomplishment, I turn around. I see Felicity still rummaging through her clothes. Eventually, she pulled out some neatly folded navy blue garb.

“Aha, found it!" she giddily exclaimed.

“Took you some time," I teased. “You get lost in there?"

She faced away from me and then started to take off her old pants. “Yeah, very lost."

"Should've used a map."

She stifled a laugh. “My god, that was lame."

Felicity then removed the last bit of loincloth she was wearing. She was now completely bare. Her plump rear was all that got my attention, I was practically glued to staring at it. The orange fur of her buttocks was a contrast to the white that was on the inner side of her thighs. Also, peaking out were two the two plump lips of her vagina. Her fluffy tail was raised, almost as if she wanted to put on a show. If it was a show, it was a damn good one because I just kept looking.

However, it did not last for very long. Adjusting her proper attire, she began to dress again, and soon her rear was replaced by the behind of some navy blue pants. She finished equipping her garb and turned to face me.

On her face was a small, sly, grin. “About time we left?"

"Yeah," I concurred.

"Oh! Don't forget your coat."

The realization that I was still shirtless kicked in. I almost completely forgot. Turning around, I scanned the room to find my coat strewn across the floor, a wrinkled mess. Quickly rushing over, I picked it up and slung it on.

“Aw, I was enjoying the view~" She giggled as she walked out of the room.

I quickly followed and we exited her house. She fumbled around in her pocket to find a key, then promptly locked the door.

She clapped her hands together, smiling all the while. “Alright, I'll see you tomorrow night."

I nodded. “For sure."

With that, Felicity turned around and began to walk away. The early morning streets were almost completely empty as she left. I stared at her exit until she rounded a corner, disappearing from sight.

Now I was alone, again. This time I was able to get a good look at her house. Last night was too dark, and I was far too drunk to notice any of its features. It was large and cobbled with a wooden frame. It was squashed together by two similar looking buildings. Pretty nice place. But, it's best that I head over to my own.

I finally arrived at my small shop, the sun wasn't even fully passed the horizon. The curtains behind the windows were still covering the inside, indicating its closed status. I reached into my pocket and pulled out my key. Walking over to the door, I put the key in. But, to my surprise, the door was unlocked. I could've sworn I locked it.

I opened the door slowly, caution fueling my veins. It slowly creaked open as I peeked my head in. Nothing inside seemed broken or stolen, maybe I forgot and just didn't lock it. Stepping inside the shop a peculiar scent filled my nose. It smelled like a mixture of many different kinds of herbs. Looking around, I also noticed a faint column of steam coming from the door of the storeroom.

As I walked closer to the door, the smell got stronger. Once I was right in front of it, the herbal scent was practically assailing my nostrils. The steam wafted from the bottom gap of the door. Slowly pushing it to a creaky opening, I saw Amelia in front of several brewing stands, making an assortment of concoctions.

I took a couple of steps into the room. "Mornin' Amelia."

The rat jumped where was and made an audible screech. She quickly snapped her head back to look at me. I noticed that she was wearing glasses that looked far too big and round for her face. She looked like a nervous wreck as I took a couple more steps into the room.

"M-Master Lawrence!" she said while releasing a big sigh of relief. "You scared me!"

"What's your excuse for being early this time?" I asked while taking a couple more steps, trying to get a closer look at what she was making.

She looked nervous as I got closer. "W-well to tell you the truth, Master Lawrence." She fidgeted in place and tried to avert her gaze from my own. "I was trying to make a Revive Dead potion."

The realization of what she was doing was surprising. I wouldn't have guessed she would come in early to do such a thing. As unexpected as it was, I couldn't help but find her efforts endearing.

I chuckled lightly. "Amelia," I sighed. "To be blatantly honest with you, a potion like that is a little out of your league."

"But I've been reading up on it!" She looked directly into my eyes, her gaze was filled with determination. "I know if I practiced a little more, I could do it!"

I walked a little closer and patted her on the shoulder. "Amelia, listen, you're a novice in alchemy, this is some pretty advanced stuff. You have to build up to it, you know?"

She sighed and looked down, completely dejected. She looked like she was about to cry, again. But instead, she lifted her gaze to my own, determination returning to her demeanor. "Can you make a potion like this? A Revive Dead one that is."

"Sure." A potion like that wasn't too much of a challenge for me, just a few difficult ingredients and the right timing should do the trick. And, well, the whole legality thing behind it.

Her expression lit up to my response, a glimmer shining radiantly in her eye. However, that was short-lived as her face was now drenched in a sheepish expression. "W-well, if you don't mind me asking, could you, possibly, teach me how to do it?"

I audibly laughed. "And what do you mean by that?"

She took a deep breath, her resolve returning. "Take me on as your apprentice, Master Lawrence!" She did a soft bow, almost as if to cement her honesty. "Please!"

"And why is that?"

She kept her head lowered. "I want to learn more about alchemy!"

"And what's in it for me?"

She paused, slowly raising her head. For a moment she was completely still, unmoving, and practically unblinking. She began to stutter, her words inaudible. Until she finally spoke. "Anything! Anything I can give you!"

I crossed my arms and raised a brow. "Anything you say? Hm?"

Amelia nodded fervently. "Yes, anything! Knowledge, assistance, chores, you name it!" She paused as her face started to turn red. She sheepishly looked away for a moment. "Even more... intimate needs."

"Hold your horses there champ, you do know how big of a commitment this is right?"

"Yes, I know! I love alchemy and would do anything to know more about it."

"Are you sure?"

"Very much so!"

I sighed and rubbed my forehead for a bit. "Can you keep a secret?"

Amelia seemed to be caught off guard by my question. She tilted her head and had a puzzled look on her face. "Y-yes? Why?"

"I want to show you how much commitment is in store," I replied.

I began to take off my coat and flopped it on a nearby counter. This was much to Amelia's surprise as she stumbled backward, letting out a series of stuttered gasps.

"Uhm, Master Lawrence! Are you certain you want to do it here? And now? I haven't even bathed yet, and my fur is a mess! And, and I-"

I chuckled softly. "Calm down, just watch."

I start to trace a circle on my chest, where my heart is located. I did the motion twice before a small hole appeared. The hole got larger, and larger, soon revealing my heart. It stopped at a certain size and remained open. I could feel the air of the store start to rush into my insides. I carefully put my hand inside the hole and gently pulled out my heart. It was attached to my innards by a tangling heap of arteries and veins. It beat and pulsated in my grasp, blood flowing in and out of the fleshy tubes that kept it anchored. My own lifeline lies within my grasp. I presented my heart to Amelia.

Amelia looked shocked, her eyes wide and mouth slightly agape. "M-M-Master L-Lawrence! What are you doing!?"

"Do you see it?" I asked, my voice hushed, as if sharing a secret.

Amelia leaned in, her curiosity evident in her eyes. "N-No?" she replied, her gaze fixed on the unveiled heart.

"Look closer," I pointed with my free hand, indicating a specific spot. "Right here."

"Wait, I see something!" She squinted, her eyes focusing. "A gem?"

"That's a Philosopher's Stone."

Amelia was practically speechless as she gawked at the stone embedded in my heart. "W-what does it do?" she asked in a near whisper.

"The Philosopher's Stone is the mark of a true alchemist," I explained, opting for a more conversational tone. "Only when embedded in the heart can one perceive the deeper truths of alchemy. It enhances the potency of potions and simplifies the creation of more advanced concoctions." I paused for a little while as I let Amelia take in this information. "It might make you go crazy though, with the influx of boundless knowledge and all that."

Her gaze slowly shifted from the stone to me, curiosity and awe mingling on her face. "Can I get one?"

I couldn't help but chuckle. "Perhaps, not right now though."

She slowly reached one of her hands toward my heart, seemingly mesmerized by the stone within. "Can I touch it?"

"Ah, ah, not too close. This is still my heart, you know. Mess with it, and I'm done for," I warned with a playful tone, beginning to retract my heart.

I slowly placed it back in my chest. Upon removing my hand, the hole that once revealed my insides began to get smaller and smaller until it was fully closed. Its seamless concealment made it look as if it was never there in the first place. I felt the beat of my heart now rest within my chest, a truly comforting feeling.

I grab my nearby coat and haphazardly put it on. I looked toward Amelia while doing the buttons. "Do you understand the commitment I'm talking about now?"

She was silent for a moment before mustering up courage. "Yes!"

I sigh, realizing what is going to happen. "So you understand what it means to become my apprentice?"

She nods with such vigor that I fear her glasses might fly off.

A smile escapes my lips as I extend a hand. "Well, it's nice to meet you, apprentice."

She immediately seizes my hand with both of hers, shaking it up and down. "The pleasure is all mine, Master Lawrence!"

We share a moment of silence as we shake hands, transforming our relationship from employee-boss to master-apprentice with a simple handshake. The future seems so blurry that I can't even imagine it. Perhaps this was a good decision. It would probably liven things up a bit, a good break from the daily monotony. But there's something I can't shake off my mind—why is she wearing glasses?

"By the way, what up with the glasses?" I asked.

"Oh! These!" She quickly took them off and presented them to me. "These are alchemy glasses, they allow me to appraise certain ingredients much easier. Sort of essential at my level of alchemy." A sheepish giggle escaped her lips as she shyly looked away.

"Nothing wrong with that. I think they look cute."

Amelia snaps her head to look at me with wide eyes, shock evident on her face. She's motionless, just gawking at me, almost as if she can't process what I said.

I pat her on the shoulder and give a cheery smile. "Well, it's about time we open up shop, yeah? Don't forget about the royal guard's potion order."

Breaking from her stillness, she carefully nodded her head, no words escaping her lips. She slowly walked out of the backroom and into the main store, her expression unchanging.

After she left, curiosity led me to peek at what she was concocting. On the table were several flasks containing high-grade materials, dissolving in a liquid solution. These ingredients aren't even available at the local guild; how did she get her hands on them? Examining the process, I noticed she was remarkably close to actually creating a Revive Dead potion. But, despite this, the workspace is a complete mess. I might as well start cleaning up.

Despite this morning being quite a break from the tediousness of life, the rest of the shop day seemed to be just a bore. It took some time, but we got the main orders for the royal guard all set up with a majority of the others on the list completed as well. They will be ready for shipment by tomorrow. Besides that, it was the same old stuff. Customer, product, purchase, repeat. I stood at the counter, watching everything in the store unfold, even as the day began to come to an end. Even Amelia seemed to be stuck in the same rut, speaking to customers, inquiring about problems, and restocking shelves.

Looking out of one of the windows, the outside seemed no different. The same carriages took the same people to the same places. Thrilling. The orange rays of the setting sun filtered throughout the shop, illuminating the potions. My magnificent creations, at least, never seemed to bore me, even if sometimes the brewing process may get a bit monotonous.

Today felt extra slow, probably due to the lack of customers coming in. Perhaps it just isn't a potion day. I looked back over to Amelia. She was looking at the many shelves of the shop, looking up and down, making sure the inventory was all set. I noticed something though, she was still wearing those glasses from this morning. She wasn't using any ingredients that needed appraisal, so why was she wearing them? Perhaps, no, was it that I said that they were cute? Nah.

I noticed Amelia walking up to the counter, a nervous look in her eyes. Her pink tail swayed back and forth, mirroring the unease on her face. She reached the counter and averted her gaze for a bit. When she finally looked me in the eyes, she shuffled a little closer, her nervousness was now replaced with an intense curiosity.

"Hey, Master Lawrence, could you tell me a little more about the Philosopher's Stone?" Her voice was soft.

"During work hours?" I teased. Wait, does she really work for me if she is my apprentice? How does that work?

She glanced around the store. "It doesn't seem like there are any customers right now!"

"Fine," I relented, intrigued by her interest.

Her expression immediately lightened. She looked giddy, practically jumping up and down. "I have so many questions! Like what does it really do? Where does it come from? How does it work? Does anyone else have one?" She started to ramble. "Oh! Or if the-"

I put up a hand, causing her to stop talking. "Stop, please."

She looked at me with expectant eyes, ready for me to unravel the secrets of the stone.

I sighed. "Hm, let's see." I closed my eyes and grumbled, trying to devise a way to explain the stone to her. I thought for a moment before the right words came to my mind. "Everything has magic inside of it, right?"

Amelia responded with a nod.

"Over time, this magic energy can flow underground. And, as it pools, it creates underground canals of magic energy." I paused for a moment to look at her. "You following so far?"

She responded with an even harder nod.

"If a large amount of these canals intersect at a single point, they can solidify. The resulting object is a Philosopher's Stone."

Amelia continued to listen, her gaze focused.

I pointed toward my heart. "Its immense amount of magical energy causes it to be unstable."

She tilted her head, seemingly confused.

"I forgot to mention before, but a Philosopher's Stone can have the power to transmute one material to another."

I picked up a nearby herb resting on the counter between my pointer finger and thumb. "Here, watch this."

I twisted the herb in my fingers, causing it to turn. It underwent a fascinating transformation. Initially, it seemed like nothing was happening. However, the green leaves of the herb began to shift into a coppery color, the texture altering with its change. It was a gradual process, but soon enough, the entire herb was transformed into a metallic copper structure, still retaining its original form but now made entirely of copper.

"See, Pretty cool, yeah?"

"Yeah..." she replied.

"The amount of unstable energy in a Philospher's Stone allows it to alter the form of almost any object. Makes it pretty easy to get ingredients for brewing."

"Can... Can I have it?" Amelia asked, pointing toward the metallic plant in my fingers.

I threw it to her. "Here, it's all yours."

She grabbed it out of the air with a giggle and ran toward the backroom. She soon came bursting out of the room with an empty flask in her free hand. She walked to the counter and placed the empty glass on the wood. She gently placed the metal herb in the flask, almost like a flower in a vase.

"Oh, that's pretty cool!" I said while prodding at the new decoration.

Amelia was smiling until her eyes went wide and a quizzical expression came to her face. "Wait, if you can change anything into anything, why have a shop if you can turn whatever into... like... gold or something?"

I lightly chucked. "Well, to keep me dying of boredom. I already ran out of demons to kill and monsters to slay. Might as well do something while I wait for death to knock on my door."

She stared at me, seemingly even more confused now. "Huh."

Wanting to break the awkwardness, I straightened up and cleared my throat. "Well, look at the time. It seems good to close up shop."

"But we still have a couple more hours left," Amelia protested.

"No harm in closing early today."

"O-okay," Amelia said as she started toward the door. "I guess I will see you tomorrow, Master Lawrence."

She put up her apron on a nearby rack and grabbed her coat. "Good night!" she said while waving.

"Good night, Amelia," I replied as I returned the gesture.

The door shut behind her, marking an ending for today. I got up from behind the counter and closed the curtains for the windows. I pulled out my key from my pocket and locked the front door. Looking around the shop, it seemed clean enough to leave it for tonight.

Going into the storeroom of the shop, I removed my dirty apron and slung it across one of the many shelves. Going upstairs, I readily got into my bedroom. I practically threw myself into the bed and wrapped myself up in the covers. Tomorrow night is going to be big. I will hang out with Felicity again, and finish what we started. At this moment, I didn't really mind I was staring up at that same old ceiling as I drifted off.
