Lachrymatia-Chapter 3:Cells
Authors note: Melanie is based off a nurse I had when I was hospitalized for anaphylactic shock.
Chapter 3:Cells
The sun goes up the sun goes down
I drag myself into the town
All I do I want to do with you
Everyday I'm at my desk
At my desk I'm like the rest
All I do I want to do with you
Everyday, Everyday, Everyday, Everyday
-The Servant
*Theme from Sin City
Frost laid in his hospital bed bored yet content that he got to meet and thank his rescuer. As he reached for his glass of water on the tray next to bed he couldn't help but wonder what that cop was doing at Drip. He didn't seem like the type to hang around one of the cities most notorious gay strip clubs. With that aside he was pleased that he was recued by such a sexy and muscular bovine. Being a Taurus he was naturally attracted to bulls and what he found to be the most interesting about him is that he was Virgo. His perfect match, he was quickly pulled from his thoughts by the eagle that entered his room.
"Hi Frost, my name is Melanie. I'll be your nurse today."
"Hi Melanie, I'll be your patient who is in need of a refill."
The two of them laughed as she took his glass away.
"How are you feeling today? Is there anything I can get you?"
"Well first I would like to know what happened and why I can't remember anything." He said eyeing her crucifix.
"Well, who ever attacked you injected you with a drug similar to morphine. Side effects do include acute memory loss and paralysis. So you don't remember anything?" she asked eyeing his diamond necklace.
"All I remember is doing my routine then walking out to my car, after that...nothing."
"You're a stripper?" she asked excitedly.
Frost narrowed his eyes.
"Yes."
"That's so cool, I danced at Saturdays in college. I loved it, the funny thing is I made more there then I do here stitching up furs and cleaning up their puke."
He immediately loved her.
"Now, is there anything else I can do besides getting you another drink?"
"I'd like a Long Island and a cigarette." He said smiling at her.
"In my limits." She giggled back at him.
"Well, I wouldn't mind watching some T.V. If that IS in your limits."
"Sure thing sugar, lets wheel out your I.V. and take you to the lounge."
"When can I take this damn thing out?" He asked holding up his wrist.
"When its empty. It's cleaning the drug out of your system." She said walking him out and into the lounge.
Frost glanced over into Detective Flores room eagerly trying to catch another glimpse but he was sound asleep.
"How's my rescuer?" he asked.
"With everything that happened I'd say he's doing pretty good. Who ever attacked you has claws and he knows how to use them. Slashed his chest and arms up pretty good but there wasn't any life threatening damage. He'll probably be released when you are."
"And that will be when?"
"Tomorrow morning. Dr. Cloisonné just wants to make sure that everything in you is running smoothly."
The two walked for what seemed like an eternity before they entered the lounge. Other furs in their "dresses" were scattered about, some playing cards, others watching TV while all the while a griffin stood in front of a vending machine frustrated by it not taking his dollar.
"What a happy bunch." Frost said gazing around before taking a seat next to an elderly jaguar who was watching the news.
"When your ready to come back just follow the black line into the main hospital ok? I'm the only one on duty and I'll be here all night."
"See you later Sugar," he replied.
Melanie left glancing over her shoulder at the adorable snow leopard she was leaving behind. She made a mental note to go and see one of his shows on her day off. When she got back to her desk she was greeted by a group of nuns heading to the chapel. She always liked nuns, she couldn't think of anything more precious, noble and above all pure. They gave a slight nod and continued past the desk and she pulled out a pen and began filling out some paperwork on her new crush; as she did so she was immediately startled by a bedpan falling off one of the gurneys down the hallway. Curious, she set the pen down and headed towards the sound.
"Hello?" she called. "Is everything alright?"
No answer. She continued towards the bedpan lying in the middle of the hallway. When she picked it up she observed the claw marks scratched across it back, she traced her own claws against them and jumped at the sound of whimpering coming from the bathroom door that was slightly ajar next to her.
"Hello?" she said staring at it.
The room was dark but she could see something rush past the crack and out of sight. Immediately her feathers flushed and she grew cold. Setting the bedpan back on the gurney she placed her talons on the door and pushed. It was empty, nothing. She flicked on the light and walked in, glancing from one end to other until she caught a glimpse of her self in the mirror. Noticing a feather out of place on her head, she slid it back and winked. Suddenly the door slammed shut and she jumped. A flash of fear coursed through her and she ran to open it but found that the handle had jammed, never noticing the Naga that was hanging from the ceiling. Angel watched her frantically jiggle the handle, her terror amusing and arousing his every sense. Melanie turned around and crouched to the floor, she was claustrophobic and this was sending her into a panic attack. She breathed heavily and held her sides and that's when she noticed the drool drip from the ceiling onto the floor. She slowly raised her eyes, her heart racing and screamed when she saw him. The Naga fell in front of her, eyes narrowing as he grabbed her throat and lifted her onto the door. She grabbed his arm trying to make him let go as her feet dangled, her windpipe slowly constricting as he squeezed a little harder.
"Where's the cat little birdie?" he hissed.
She gasped and choked out, "Who?"
"The snow leopard brought in here earlier bitch!" he shrieked slamming her to the floor.
She grabbed her throat and gasped for air, "It's you, you're the one that attacked him."
He kicked her side making her roll onto her back. "Where is he?" he said stepping on her chest.
"I don't know where he is," she lied thinking of what this thing could do to him.
"Well then, you're no use to me. Say good night birdie." He said picking her up pinning her wings to her sides. She spit in his face and he slid his forked tongue out and licked it away.
"I love it when they spit," he giggled.
Melanie stared in horror as she watched the Naga detach his lower jaw spreading his mouth wide. Tears rolled down her face as his exposed fangs lunged deep into her throat and she cried out. Slow breaths escaped as his razor incisors plunged deeper and with a final rip of his head tore her throat out. He threw her body to the floor and watched the life from her eyes slowly disappear.
"I love this show," the leopard said to Frost.
"Which CSI is it?" he asked.
"Miami, that Horatio is so handsome." She giggled blushing.
Frost rolled his eyes and smiled. Glancing at the clock he noticed it was 2 AM, he was getting tired and only him and leopard were left in the lounge. He figured he may as well sleep for awhile before he got to go home and take another cat nap. As he followed the black line he wondered what Melanie was up to, probably asleep at the desk he thought. When he passed through the doors into his ward he noticed the smell of blood. The scent seeped deep into his lungs and he coughed.
" Jesus," he blurted as his feline sense of fight or flight kicked in.
The ward was half dark, many of the lights above flickered and it became difficult to use his night vision. He squinted his eyes and walked further into the ward, turning a corner he immediately stop and stared at the trail of blood that led to the nurse's station.
"Melanie?" he called.
He jumped over the trail and continued towards the desk. That's when he saw her. She had her back turned and she was leaning against a chair.
"Melanie?" he said reaching out towards her. "Melanie?"
His paw met her shoulder and she slowly descended to the floor. In horror Frost jumped back and tripped over a phone cord. As he sat there heart racing, he watched in terror as Melanie's lifeless corpse oozed blood onto the floor. Her eyes were empty sockets, her beautiful beak was cracked and splintered and the silver crucifix that hung delicately from her neck had vanished. Frost breathed heavily and kicked and thrashed to get away, his paws sliding against the tiled floor. As he grabbed the desk for support his paw hit a switch and the board in front of Melanie lit up. There written in her own blood read,
HERE KITTY KITTY
"Oh my God!" he shrieked as he turned and ran down the ward towards Travis's room.
Quickly tearing back the curtain a cold chill fell into Frosts stomach, Travis was nowhere to be found. Fearing his attacker had killed him to, Frost darted back into the hall and looked around. He had passed a set of doors on the way to the lounge, maybe he could out of the ward that way. Running past Melanie and following the black line he found them. His every instinct begged him not to proceed but he had no choice, the linger smell of death was beginning to make him feel nauseated and the fear of his assailant was growing more intense by the minute. He pushed through and slowly stepped through the double doors. The hallway seemed to go on and on forever and there was a different colored line that led all the way to end. He started slowly but soon quickened his pace as heard footsteps coming from behind. They were getting closer and they two were quickly matching his own speed, he glanced over his shoulder but saw no one.
Faster he ran getting closer to the end of the hallway but the quicker he ran the faster the invisible footsteps stayed on top of him. As he turned the corner he was apprehended and ripped into an open room, he tried to scream but his apprehender placed his hand over his mouth.
"Shhhhh," Travis said letting his hand down.
"Where have you been?" Frost whispered.
Travis pulled his gun from his gown and cocked it.
"I woke up just as he was placing that nurse on display. It's a Naga, a big one to. Just as I was pulling my gun out of my holster I saw the son of a bitch jump into the ceiling." He stated holding his gun up.
Suddenly the Naga crashed through the drywall and landed with grace to the floor below, he tilted his head up and slid his tongue in the air.
"Shit," Travis whispered moving Frost behind him. "Won't be long till he finds us."
Angel motioned his head back and forth hissing silently. Only when he had found the door leading to the two did his eyes narrow and he stood and faced it.
"Get under the bed," Travis motioned him with his gun.
Frost silently nodded and slid under the bed, heart racing and fear growing. Travis quietly moved behind the bed curtain and waited. As the Naga entered the room both Travis and Frost thought of every possible outcome, everything could go wrong in an instant and both could wind up dead. The Naga slid his tongue out once again and shot his head towards the bed. He slowly stepped towards Frost, closer. Sweat dripped from his forehead, this was it, Frost was going to die and there was nothing he could do. The Naga ripped open the curtain and his nearly popped out of his head as he stared at Travis,
"Surprise!" Travis said pointing his gun.
In an instant the Naga ran towards the window nearly missing the live rounds being fired at him. With a great crash he jumped through the window falling five stories easily landing yet again with grace. Travis by now had gotten to the window and continued his firing, nearly missing each time. In an instant the Naga had jumped over the hospitals wall and disappeared into the night.
"Damnit! Fucker got away." He said lowering his gun.
Frost crawled from under the bed and stood beside him. The two just stared into the city for a moment before turning and facing each.
"That's the second time you've saved my ass," Frost said winking at him.
"All in a days work," the bull replied eyeing his figure.
Frost placed his soft paw against the bulls face and slowly slid it down, his feline charms sending Travis into a state of ecstasy. Slowly he traced the bandages concealing the bovines wounds, feeling remorse. This never would of happened if it wasn't for him. Raising his head he stared deeply into Travis's eyes. They were soft and warm and in an instant all he wanted to do was kiss his hero, deeply, softly and passionately. Seeming to read his thoughts Travis bent down and locked his mouth with Frost. As their mouths danced in unison Frost recalled never feeling so safe and warm. Travis was perfect, a bovine god and he never wanted to leave his side again.
Travis at the same time felt he had never been with something so perfect. This slender vixen with his gold eyes was like a Roman Goddess, his scent, his mouth, his body, all perfect. He pulled Frost deeper into his embrace and slid his arms down his back, feeling each digit of the snow leopards spine. Frost moaned quietly into the bulls mouth as Travis slid his hands onto his ass, kneading them slowly but firmly. Frost forced his tongue into the bull, their two tongues sliding in and out of each other. The feline had never tasted anything so sweet and he longed for more. Sliding his paw down Travis's chest he eagerly found the bulls massive member hanging there like an open invitation. He slowly began to fondle the bovine making him moan and cry out into his mouth. It was so big and he smiled slightly as he felt it being to pulsate. As he slid the bulls zipper down Travis grabbed his arm and pulled away from his mouth.
"I've got to get you out of here." He said gazing into the golden eyes meeting his. "Come on lets go." He said grabbing Frosts arm and racing him out the door.
The two of them raced out of the hospital and into the parking lot.
"Get in," Travis said motioning Frost towards his Thunderbird.
Frost jumped into the passenger seat and Travis started the engine and they raced off towards downtown.
"Where are we going?" Frost asked.
"Were going to the station. You'll be safe there until we figure out what to do with you. If that son of bitch has the balls to come after you in a hospital then I know he's got the balls to come after you at your house." He said while racing around a corner.
"I've got to get to my place," Frost argued. "I have responsibilities."
"As of now all you have is me." Travis said turning to him smiling.
Frost stared at him, narrowed his left eye and smiled back. It didn't take long for them to arrive at the police station. As Frost got out Travis ran over to him and threw a blanket over his shoulders before leading him in. When they walked in through the doors Frost hair stood on end. The place was in chaos, dispatch was yelling into the radio, cops argued with lawyers while others led other furs into the back in handcuffs.
"Flores! WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING HERE!" his captain shouted from behind his desk.
"Send some wagons over to Sisters of Mercy, we've got a homicide on our hands." Travis replied while he handed Frost a cup of coffee.
"Get in the conference room we need to talk." The wolf barked.
Travis turned to Frost,
"You gonna be ok?"
Frost nodded and watched the two walk into the conference room. Sipping his coffee he watched the two through the blinds talk. He could tell the two were arguing and he couldn't figure out why. Suddenly a prostitute fell at his feet and smiled at him.
"Get up," a dragoness said pulling her up quickly.
"Lisa?" Frost said puzzled as he watched the lion being led to the tank.
Suddenly the conference door opened and the two walked out. Travis winked at him as they headed over to the Captains desk. The wolf opened one of his drawers, pulled out some papers and sat down. Frost glanced at the floor and focused on what the two were saying.
"Are you sure your up to doing this? That fucker scratched you bad."
"You know I'm the only one qualified for the job, it's not like I haven't done this before."
The wolfs radio on his shoulder rang out to him.
"What Jefferson?" the wolf asked.
"You wouldn't believe what's going on over here," the voice said.
"Flores filled me in, just be glad that there's a morgue. Clean it up and get your ass back down here," the captain said with no facial expression.
As he continued to fill out the paperwork he asked Travis,
"You got a thing for the little kitty?"
Frost scoffed, he hated being called "Kitty", even more so a "Little" one.
"You know me," Travis said signing the bottom line.
"Your lucky I don't give a shit about conflict of interest."
The bull stood up and pulled out his car keys.
"Take your radio and a few clips," the captain said looking in Frosts direction. "Call in at dawn, got it?"
"Yes sir!"
Travis walked out of sight and returned moments later with a duffel bad. His captain glared one last time before he stood up and walked up over to a group of officers trying to restrain an intoxicated dragon that was resisting arrest. Frost stood to meet him and smiled,
"So what now?"
"Were going for another ride," Travis smiled.
"Now where are we going?" Frost asked confused as they walked out to Travis's car.
"To your place," he said opening the passenger door. "Until we catch this fuck I'm your new body guard. You'll be under my care 24/7 from here on out."
He smiled, closed Frosts door, walked over, opened his, started the engine and raced off.
