The Monster of Irshwood Manor
People have always believed in monsters, but there is nothing more threatening than the love of others.
Hi,
welcome this little piece of mine. I kept it short on purpose, for neither the thought needs many more words, nor do I currently have the time for such. Happier stuff is going to follow soon, too. Speaking of: the tags have their reason, so here's the last heads-up, but apart from that, feel free to enjoy, rage, think about it, and maybe leave me your opinion down below. In any case:
Have fun and see you around

PS: This is not related to recent events, it just felt like the right moment to finally write it down.
Once upon a time, there was a family, a noble lineage, highly influential and popular. Their residence laid atop a green hill, surrounded by their vast lands, and fate had granted his lordship and his wife a daughter of a grace and beauty far exceeding those of others her age. Being loved by her parents, she was free to wander everywhere on their domain, but in her juvenile ignorance, the only place she truly desired to explore was where she was not allowed to go; the south wing of Irshwood Manor. It was haunted by evil spirits, monsters of unbelievable terror, and its mere mention was enough to spark fear among the people.
One day, however, the young duchess could not hold her curiosity for any longer. The day she entered the forbidden area, she heard her parents and all their staff call her until late at night, but no one dared to seek her in the place of evil. When she finally returned, however, they were not glad to have her back, but instead took the girl and locked her into her room, where she would stay for the next week.
In fear of her parent’s anger, she obliged their rules for an entire season after, but memory was soon to fade, and she went back to the haunted place, exploring the abandoned corridors once more. Again, her parents and all of the plentiful entourage searched her, and just like the last time, she returned when the fires burnt low at the twelfth chime of the grand bell. The lord and lady of the house did not want to hear about her experience this time, either, merely took her by the ear, and locked her in once more, not opening the door until a month had passed.
When the young duchess was free again, it would only be another month until the girl returned to her playground. This time, no one bothered to find her. The house stayed quiet when no breath was wasted on finding her, and when she returned from the south wing this third time, her parents were already waiting. She tried to explain herself again, mentioned the wonders she had found, yet they remained stubborn, locking her into the deepest gaol to snuff out her curiosity once and for all. Her cries wailed up the staircase when his lordship and his wife left, but their daughter had to learn her lesson, and so they did not look back.
For an entire season, no living soul but the rats came looking for the girl, and when she was allowed back to the others, her arms were weak and her body thin. Even now, no more care came from her parents than was necessary to remind her of her duties as future duchess. Within a fortnight, she did not bear it any longer and fled back into the south wing. Expecting her to return like the last three times, just her mother waited at the entrance to the curse. His lordship had gone to bed at sunset, being exhausted from his deeds of the day. But this time, the young duchess did not return. The next day, she was still missing, and after two more days had passed, it was decided to look for her.
At the break of dawn, the bravest of men ventured into the south wing, and after just an hour, they found the girl, her body sitting in a chair in the old ballroom, wrists slashed, and just her own footprints in the dust leading up to the throne she had bled her life onto. Seeing his daughter like this, the duke let out a wail, which echo would not quieten until the wing was burned to the ground in the next day. It would never be rebuilt, the risk too great that the monster of Irshwood manor would return one day and claim another life.
