"Ee aye eeeeeeee! Free, free, freeeeee!"

Otters tumbled into the river, whooping and hollering and spinning splashy circles, and Tiria reflected on freedom. In the way a fish knows only water, she had known only freedom, restricted as she had felt. Freedom to do anything but take the title she'd wanted; even if she hadn't been crowned, how could she compare that to the Green Isle otters' freedom from cruelty and exploitation? She had learned so much better in such a short time, and let herself share her new subjects' joy. Pushing her coronet firmly into place, she leapt into the water alongside the others, making the biggest splash of all, and burst up like a leaping pike, laughing.

"Yaylahoooo! Eulalia!"

Males and females alike, clothing wet and clinging, wriggled and wrestled together, splashing and ducking. Adults held pups up out of the way; bigger pups climbed on each others' shoulders or played underwater hide-and-seek. The Long Patrol hares stood back or simply dabbled their paws, shaking heads and tutting, shielding their faces from wayward splashes with their long ears.

"I say, Quarters, not too different from the jolly old mountain, wot? Rather like the queue for breakfast, all this ruckus."

"The jolly old mountain's never this bally wet, Porters. Dreadful mess, somebeast might sl-IP!"

Banya grabbed both the young hares' footpaws and pulled them in, to raucous applause.

"Haharr, that's it, me buckoes! Good ole Green Isle fun, don't nance about on the banks!" Leatho Shellhound clapped hardest of all. Tiria swam closer to him and shoved him amicably.

"Oh, be nice, they're field creatures, not water ones!"

"Anybeast's a water beast if they're willin' to try, mate," he said, winking.

Tiria's paw lingered on his arm, feeling muscle and arrow scars, and rope burns that had rubbed away his wrist fur less than a day ago. She reminded herself to thank Brantalis for his rescue, and lay out more flowers for Pandion. She might have slain Felis herself, but the otters couldn't have survived this long without Leatho. These strong arms had held up the hopes of Green Isle alone for so very long, and under the cold water, his blood ran warm.

Leatho noticed, and didn't pull away. Unnoticed amid the hullaballoo, he drew closer and whispered "Meet me after supper, when the liddle 'uns are in bed. We'll swim 'neath the moon."

The warmth of the sun was slowest to fade from the deep, still pools in cul de sacs of the river network around Holt Summerdell, a comforting blanket of water after swimming up through the icy rapids. Moonlight twinkled on ripples and rills, and Tiria blew sparkling droplets from her whiskers. Her green tunic, slick with water, clung to her fur, sticking tight to her body with a sucking sound and a rush of water from the hem when she jumped onto the bank. Leatho swum a loop around the pool and sprang out a polite distance from her, his eyes on her moonlight-gleaming outline. He'd already discarded his own shirt, and the muscles Tiria had admired so were clearly visible now in his sturdy limbs and the little ripples of his fur. Tiria blushed to her nosetip and shook her whiskers, but turned toward him instead of away. Romance was new to her, but she saw it coming and welcomed it as she had every other adventure she'd faced. This one, at least, was not the kind of adventure which would bring death; perhaps new life, though she blushed harder to think of that. Not *nearly* time to be thinking that far ahead.

"We all owe ye a great debt, Tiria," Leatho said, eyes moving up to her face to meet her gaze. "Can't imagine how I'd've escaped without yore friends showin' up just in time."

"Oh, I'm sure you'd have come up with something!" Tiria chuckled and waved dismissively. "Kolun and Banya have told me all about your adventures. You seemed to be doing quite well already." She tilted her chin and looked at him shyly through her long lashes and eyebrow-whiskers. "I mean it, Leatho. Nobeast here would have survived long enough for me to save them without you."

"Ah, 'tis nought," he said, grinning and scratching his scruff. "Me mates needed help. Who wouldn't help 'em, in my place?"

"Well, nobeast else *did*."

"All the other strong beasts 'ave mates an' pups to worry about. I didn't 'ave nobeast they could get to me through."

"No wife? No lover?"

"No wife, nah. Lovers, eh, a healthy number, none fer more'n one night here an' there. Like I said, couldn't be close to nobeast, or the cats'd go for 'em."

"Oh, that's sad."

"I wouldn't say so." He slid closer, so smoothly the water didn't ripple, and put a paw on the hem of her tunic. "Means I'm free now, fer the fairest lass of all."

Tiria giggled. "Flatterer."

"Yep. C'mon, that cloth is all heavy an' cold now. Hang it up to dry an' come back."

"Oh, are you sure?" Tiria asked playfully, splashing at him. "I've nothing on underneath."

Leatho splashed her back. "Ah, came prepared? Then ye won't have to take long at all!"

Still giggling, Tiria got up and walked to the treeline, swaying her tail pointedly. She faced away from Leatho until the last moment, hanging her tunic over a low bough and shaking water out of her pelt. She kept the coronet on, just because she liked how it caught the moonlight. From Leatho's shellshocked look as she turned around, it complemented her well.

"Wow... Yore Majesty."

Tiria's ears went pink again and she fluffed up her fur. "Don't get all worshipful, please. I told you, we're equals - so how about you show that?"

Leatho couldn't get his breeches off fast enough, fumbling with the sodden cloth until he could finally drop it on the bank with his shirt. Tiria took those precious moments to strut towards him, head held high like the queen she was, handpaws on hips, swaying her tail in even wider and slower arcs and placing each pawstep gracefully and directly in front of the other. The effect was made less regal with her giggling and the grin she couldn't drop, and ruined completely when she reached the bank and Leatho bear-hugged her legs and pulled her in fast enough that she could barely close her nostrils in time, both of them laughing as hard as they could remember they ever had.

Both otters popped back up, still laughing, still embracing. As they caught their breath they met each other's eyes, and took a moment just to gaze at each other, appreciating the moment. Tiria snuggled closer and Leatho gripped her tighter, and each slowly let their paws start to run over the other's body, getting to know the shapes of flesh beneath the fur. Tiria felt the solid ridge of Leatho's sheath on her thigh and the hot tip emerging from it pressing into her side, and her nipples tightened and hardened against his chest.

"I, um..." she started, stammered a moment, and decided words weren't important. She moved in to kiss him and he moved to join her, whiskers and nosetips brushing for a second before their lips softly met. Tiria's lips were well-cared-for and sensitive enough to feel every tiny roughness and nicked scar on Leatho's, and she welcomed the signs of his eventful life and heroism.

Leatho pulled back first. "Do ye have, uh...?"

"I was expecting this when you asked me to come, don't worry. I took carrot seeds before I left and I have more for tomorrow."

"Oh, good. If ye want to be really safe I don't have to-"

"No, no, I want to. Please."

Leatho smiled widely. "Then let's get ye warmed up."

Taking a deep breath, he ducked underwater and nuzzled up between Tiria's legs. His whiskers tickled and she giggled, then spread her stance as he urged her thighs apart with his paw. Cold water ran against her opening vulva, soon covered by Leatho's cold nose, then his warm tongue. No sensation of his breath, as his lungs held tight, and his mouth clamped tightly onto her to prevent his precious air escaping. An otter can hold its breath for up to eight minutes, and Leatho intended to use every second well.

"Oh!" Tiria was used to the touch of her own fingers, and sometimes a pillow or the corner of a table, and her long musteline backbone was flexible enough that she had once or twice experienced her own tongue, though she hadn't been keen on the taste. Leatho's was different, longer and stronger, his lips rough, teeth bigger and the tip of one fang broken off. His huge, strong handpaws ran up and down her thighs and gripped her hips to pull her closer, and he had to pin her tail to the bankside with one knee when she reflexively thrashed it and whacked him in the side. "Sorry! Keep... oh!... keep going..." With his ears closed off underwater, he couldn't hear her, but she made sure he picked up the message by running her claws through his headfur and rubbing his scruff.

Leatho explored her slowly, finding the most sensitive spots and how best to stimulate each one, with long licks, firm sucks, and light nips. Tiria felt heat build inside her, thick slickness starting to run and easing the way when his tongue pressed inside. As she got used to the unfamiliar feeling, she relaxed, and Leatho increased the force and speed of his tongue; with seconds of his breath to spare, Tiria gasped and clenched her thighs around his head as she reached her peak, her blood pulsing hard in her core and her head. Her knees trembled and she slid down the bankside, but Leatho's strong arms caught her and pushed her up as he rose, gasping for breath.

"Whew! Was worried I was gonna drown there," he said, and licked his lips. "Worth it, even if I had."

Tiria laughed. "Such a brave knight, laying down his life for his queen."

Leatho growled playfully and pulled her up to settle her legs around his waist. "C'mere. Let's do this right an' proper. Ye ready?"

Slickness rubbed from Tiria's vulva to his belly fur, sheath, and the underside of his half-emerged cock, thick enough not to quickly wash away. She guided his fingers to it and let him feel the wet warmth and pulsing heat. "Very much so. Please... let me have you. Be my prince - my king - my consort - I don't care what it's called, I need you..."

"As yore majesty commands..." Latching their snouts together in a deeper kiss than before, Leatho rolled them both over into the pool's depths, and they disappeared under.

The night sapped almost all light from the pool, none of the usual wavery green vision Tiria was used to, and with her nose and ears closed off, only shadows and touch remained. With so little distraction, the sensations rose, more intense than she recalled ever feeling. Frantic for more, she ground against Leatho's shaft, her stiffened clit rubbing along the vein. It took only seconds before they got the positioning right and he drove inside.

Like most self-respecting members of such an active species as otters, Tiria had worn away her hymen before she was old enough to know what it was, wrestling and running and falling and going backwards down waterfall waterslides, so there was no blood. Still, all she'd had inside herself were her own dainty fingers, and Leatho's cock was big enough that it still felt strange. Not exactly painful, but an unfamiliar stretching feeling, like that in an over-exercised limb. She pulled them both up to the surface to take a breath and speak.

"Ah! Slower... slower..." she hissed. "Give me a moment."

"Of course! Of course." Leatho stopped moving. "In yer own time, love."

"Thank you..." Tiria squirmed and shifted and very slowly eased herself down, feeling the heat and hardness pulsing in time with her own heartbeat. Another deep breath each, and they locked lips and rolled under the water again.

Leatho let Tiria move at her own pace, sliding over him a clawsbreadth at a time, tongues entwined as closely as their bodies, twisting together like eels. As she became accustomed to the feeling, she craved more, and as she moved quickly and smoothly he took the cue to thrust back, their hips striking together harder and faster. They kissed hard, teeth clashing, nipping at lips and noses, bubbles popping in the water above them as they lost control of their breath, rutting more desperately as they lost precious seconds of air. With two short minutes to spare, Tiria orgasmed again, and Leatho pinned her against the floor of the pool and drove into her as hard and fast as he possibly could, making the most of the moments left. Tiria clung to him and rocked back, using her own movements to guide him to the most sensitive spot inside her, and shouted in surprise with her third orgasm, losing the last of her air. Leatho's eyes were tightly closed, but he felt the bubble; he swept her up to the surface, and reached his own peak as they both burst into the air with a splash, gasping for breath and crying out as he filled her up.

As the splattering droplets settled, Leatho leaned against the grassy bank, still half in the water, still clinging to Tiria. She hugged him back, overwhelmed and panting.

"That... Wow."Leatho chuckled. "Heh, that all ye can say?"

Tiria leaned up and kissed his nosetip. "Yes. Now I know how you felt." She grinned.

He nuzzled her neck. "Thank ye, Tiria."

"For what?"

"Fer sharin' this. Trustin' me. Fer everything."

"Ahh, thank you too. For everything." Tiria gazed up at the moon, noting its movement across the sky, and grinned rogueishly. "Now, tidy up your clothes, Deedero will kill you if they wrinkle!" She urged him out of the pool with a quick slap to the backside.

"Ow! 'Ey!" Leatho scrambled onto the grass, laughing. "Right taskmaster you are."

Tiria laughed too. "Come back soon! Let's see how much more we can do before sunrise!"
