#2 of The Winged One

"Well someone didn't travel far from home." Helka had fallen asleep beneath the shelter of a few close nit trees. He woke up now to a familiar sent above him and silver hair falling into his face. He got up and stretched out before turning over to see who had awoken him while the moon was still in the sky. Members of the CatClan were usually up at this time, however since he had started meeting with Griffin he had started to develop the sleeping pattern of the HumanClan. The voice had come from his friend Soyna who was hanging upside down by her knees in the branch above him. He was rather surprised to see her so soon, though he knew that it had been over a month since he had left the CatClan borders it seemed as only a short time had passed. He purred in greeting but it was cut short as Soyna let go of the branch and landed on top of him, knocking the breath out of him. She looked at him in the eyes before she purred in laughter herself, "You know, I never did figure you to be this close to HumanClan borders. What happened? Forget all the fears that were dragging you down a month ago?"

He pushed his friend off him to the side and had to smile at her curiosity. Thinking of something to say for a reason he managed to stumble through, "Well, not all humans are as bad as I thought they were." She caught on, however, to any hint in his voice that suggested there was something more. When he looked back at her he noticed a smile begin to creep its way onto her face. She knew exactly why he had chosen this spot now and he cringed slightly knowing that she would never let him hear the end of it.

Soyna leaped from where she was pinning Helka to the forest floor once more. He was more prepared this time but it still surprised him enough for him to lose his breath momentarily. They both laughed for a moment and then Soyna got close to his face and purred, "So the all mighty Helka found a HumanClan boy to play with did he?"

Pushing her off once again he stood up and stretched his wings out. "So what if I did? You know me by now Soyna, what else would I do when I came in contact with the HumanClan?" He said in half seriousness that was evident in the way he smiled and twitched his whiskers. Soyna leaned herself against a tree and looked silently at him shaking her head. He could only guess at what she was thinking and as it turned out he had guessed wrong.

She looked at the ground and back up at him, "Just don't let this turn out like last time ok? I'm sure this boy is nice and I don't want you to hurt him when he doesn't deserve it." She closed her eyes leaving Helka to think about what she had said. The problem was he didn't understand. Helka was known in the CatClan for getting many boys to play with, mostly cause they found the wings appealing, and he couldn't remember it ever going badly for him. He heard a long sigh escape from Soyna and he looked up to realize that she was staring at him. "You don't remember? Gelferd, a gray cat with black stripes, do you remember him? Or have you been away from the CatClan for too long already?" He glared at her and her sarcasm. He did remember Gelferd quite well, and he had had a good time with him for a while. He nodded still not quite sure what she was getting at so motioning her to continue with a look. She only sighed and continued, "He was heartbroken when he learned that you weren't being serious with him. He had thought that you loved him and loved you in return. Don't let this boy fall for you or let it get too serious cause you will only hurt him."

He didn't know that was how Gelferd had felt but was upset to hear it now. He had never taken a mate before and he didn't intend on it, Gelferd should have known that from the others he had been with. He shook his head and looked at her, "Griffin knows that it is all in fun. It has to be regardless, it would never work between members of the HumanClan and CatClan. No two could live like that." He was sure that Griffin knew that but this talk with Soyna had made him quite unsure of that.

Both his and Soyna's ears perked as they heard a loud thrashing in the bushes. Helka, by now, knew exactly what the noise meant and smiled to himself as he say Soyna jump into a tree and hiss in the direction of the noise. Sure enough a few moments latter Griffin stumbled out, smiling as he saw Helka. His hair seemed to glow like fire in the dim moonlight and his eyes sparkled like the stars. He ran and jumped into Helka's arms, the shorter body fitting perfectly against his. It was common for them to greet each other this way but when he saw her ice blue eyes staring her from the tree he felt as if maybe this was too much for the poor boy to handle.

Soyna jumped down from the tree, landing silently and walking over to the two of them. "Well I best be off now." She was right behind Griffin, causing him to jump and quickly turn around. Helka introduced Soyna to him, explaining that she had been a good friend of his since they were kittens and he visibly relaxed, extending his hand to her. She looked confused and ignored it, "Well it is nice meeting you Griffin, I would stick around but I want to continue my journey as far away from the boundaries as I can get." She and Helka licked each other's cheeks in farewell and she ran off deeper into the forest.

"I'm sorry I was late." Helka perked his ears and turned his head back to face Griffin. "My sister has gotten worse and I had to stay and look after her." He ran his paw slowly through Griffin's hair as he buried his face into Helka's chest fur. They had been meeting at this place almost every night to play with each other and sleep together. They couldn't spend any time during the day together because of his family commitments, which was understandable by all means. He held Griffin close to him for several minutes before pulling him away to look in his eyes. They had fun together and Griffin knew that he could always lean on Helka but love? The thought had never crossed him mind that Griffin might feel that way.

He sighed, deciding he would put off thinking about it till Griffin's tempting figure was not right beside him. He smiled at the boy and whispered in his ear, "Get on my back and hang on, there is something I want to show you." Griffin nodded slowly, obviously confused, and stumbled onto his back. Helka spread his wings and flew into the dawn light of the cloudless sky. The flight was slower than usual from the added weight but Griffin was light enough that it wasn't too strenuous. He flew over the trees and to the point where they dropped off in a jagged cliff into the sea. He could feel Griffin tense all his muscles as he flew above the unforgiving waves. He spotted what he had been looking for, a large cave in the side of the cliff, and he flew toward it.

Landing gently on the ledge he let Griffin down, who made himself low to the ground as possible. Shaking his head he sat with his hind paws hanging out to the side of the cliff. Griffin joined him soon enough, although he did not even dare to put body parts out of the cave as he clung to Helka. He only wrapped an arm around the boy and kissed him softly on the lips. Griffin blushed which made his freckles stand out more. Helka purred as he pointed to the horizon. The sun had just begun to break the surface of the water, turning it a fiery red that bled from the opening the sun had made. One look at Griffin's wide eyes and gaping jaw told him that this was the first time he had seen the birth of light before and he was proud that he could show him. He still didn't know what Griffin thought but Soyna had made it clear that he should find out soon. She was usually right about these things.

Stretching his wing out, he pulled a feather from it, wincing in pain, and handed it to Griffin. With a purr in his voice he whispered, "When I have to leave, remember me fondly."
