Blood Red: Chapter Ten: Work Never Ends

It had barely taken us an hour to get back to the Club, which was surprising considering the vehicle we were in looked like it took a dozen bricks to its front; either Lawrence was an excellent driver, or the van was tougher than initially thought. Either way, it didn't much make a difference in the grand scheme of things; we had all made it back to the club, and that was what counted; me, Lawrence and Elle.
However, it was surprising that the Administrator didn't want to see me or Elle at the moment; he decided to let me and Elle get some rest whilst a room was being organised for Elle to stay in, as well as organising some equipment for Elle to work with; mostly computer programs and databases, things that were way beyond what I was paid for. It was hardly a shock that Elle decided to sleep in another room for the night; it would be rather awkward to have her and a Green-Dragon in my room at the same time.
"So when do I get to meet this girl of yours?" Archer asked, lying down on my bed with me as we shared a large bottle of alcohol; he explained that he'd been waiting for me to come back ever since he turned me in to the police.
"Not tonight, I can tell you that much." I slurred, shaking my head as if it was covered in sand or dust whilst rubbing my eyes with one loose paw; the kind of alcohol we were sharing was really meant for Dragons only, and I had barely downed a half-pint.
"At least you two got out okay." The Dragon said, gripping the large glass bottle in one claw and downing a good amount of the bottle in three rhythmic gulps; his eyes began to turn to me as I started to half-consciously look at the injuries that covered my body; "I wouldn't know what to do with myself if you died..."
"I said I'm fine, Dee." I said, having to use all my brainpower to not slur my words. "I'm just thankful I won't have to do something like that again anytime soon..."
"Which part do you mean?" Damien forced himself to smile as he placed the bottle down on my bedside table; "the prison-break, the car chase, or the fight with the Feral?"
"Why are you splitting hairs?" I asked, fully aware that Damien knew I hated every single part of it...especially the motorcycle, which Archer may have noticed in the news. I continued bitterly; "There was absolutely nothing fun about today...everyone should be damn grateful for the amount of crap I've put up with the past few decades."
"I probably should have brought some " Damien said, leaning back and facing the ceiling; "less aggressive, takes larger amounts to properly get drunk...more expensive though."
"Damien, I'm not drunk." I said, leaning up and defending myself as the Dragon brought his head down to meet my gaze; "it'll take a lot more than half a pint of Dragon-Tooth to get me to say something ridiculous. I'm just a little pissed that I almost had my ribcage torn out barely an hour ago, and we're reminiscing like it was ages ag-"
I was so caught up in what I was saying that I didn't notice Damien beginning to get up and pull me closer to him, lying on his back and placing me on his chest whilst he kept me close to him with his arms, slowly wrapping his tail around one of my legs as well; I could tell he was just trying to help, and after a brief moment of discomfort, I finally gave in and rested my head just above his chest, on his neck so I could listen to his rhythmic heartbeat.
"Let's create some more space on this bed of yours." The Dragon whispered into my ear that wasn't listening to his heartbeat; I felt Archer's tail unravel from my leg and slide down to the bottom of the bed, where we'd left some of our clothes.
"How do you do that?" I managed to whine, still fascinated by how the Dragon was able to flex and control the movement of his tail, as though it were a third limb (a third limb we managed to make good use of frequently).
"Foxy, I'm hundreds of years old." Damien replied quietly, smoothly removing the clothes from my bed and wrapping his tail around my leg again; "I aim to make good use of this tail of mine."
"Does this count as one of those occasions?" I teased, gently and slowly getting up as the Dragon removed his claws and let me ease back onto the lower half of his body. "I reckon we both need a bit of release after all that's happened today, don't you agree?"
The Dragon wasted no time and quickly but calmly got up, easing himself and me into a comfortable position, unravelling his tail again before sliding it all the way up my leg...
(Note: Unfortunately there is no sex scene here at the moment, since I'm not too keen on putting them in my actual series'. If you want me to write up this scene or anything, I'd be happy to. Just give me a heads up and I'll see what I can do.)

I slowly woke up to the annoying sound of my phone ringing; even though my phone was easy enough to reach from my bed, it still got on my nerves whenever anyone tried to contact me as I was waking up. Archer especially knew that I wasn't much of a morning person; I'd even go so far as to elbow him in his underbelly if he tried to strike up a conversation that didn't involve whispering lustfully into each other's ears. I reached back with one arm and practically flailed it around, eventually sliding my phone off so it was now dangling from its cord to stop the infernal ringing.
"Hey kid, it's me." The phone spoke with a voice resembling the Administrator's; "I know you don't like it when I call you in the morning, but I just thought I'd let you know that everything's been taken care of. Elle has her own office now, but she needs you to do her a quick favour; she'll explain when you meet up with her. Remember; her office is on the seventh floor, room 054."
It took me a few moments for my mind to make sense of what the Administrator had just said; meanwhile, Damien slowly groaned and rumbled in front of me, sending vibrations through my body as he slowly opened his eyes and looked at me, putting on a weak smile before yawning, revealing two rows of razor sharp teeth and one sharp-ended tongue.
"Should I even ask?" The Dragon moaned, closing his eyes and shifting about on the bed, stealing my covers from me; "or are you going to elbow me if I do?"
"Figures I'd end up a Dragon who practically throws out snide comments." I groaned, pressing myself closer to him and keeping my body as warm as possible.
"You don't seem to mind being around me." Damien laughed quietly, noticing how I was completely pressed up against him now; he slowly ran his tongue up from my neck all the way up to my forehead, repeating the motion until my face was practically drenched.
"I'm going to go have a shower." I sighed, pulling away from the Dragon and getting up out of my bed, picking up one of the shirts that littered the floor and wiping my face off with it; "after that, I'm going to get dressed, have something to drink, then go see Elle."
"Sure thing..." The Dragon yawned again, wrapping himself in my sheets and getting comfortable; "I'll just stay here and get some more shut-eye then, shall I?"
It barely took me half an hour to properly wake up and have a shower, practically cleaning myself of any evidence of what happened the previous night; after that, it was only a matter of getting dressed. I made the decision to put on my Seeker-Jumpsuit, covering my entire body with white, flexible leather; even my head was covered by a white hood, along with a facemask covering my muzzle, but still allowing me to see everything at a 180' angle.
"Why wear your jumpsuit?" The Dragon moaned, still in bed and looking at me curiously; "I thought you only wear that when you have to go to work."
"Exactly." I said ominously, though Damien didn't manage to get the hint as to what I would end up doing today; "if Elle wants to see me about something, there's a good chance she'll want me to pick up something for her. That, and I don't really want to end up stuck here all day; might as well jump a few rooftops to pass the time."
"Just be careful, foxy." The Dragon forced a laugh, leaning forwards slightly and waving me goodbye; "try to keep yourself out of ribcage-tearing range today."

It took me little more than five minutes to reach Elle's office; by now, I was more than familiar with the layout of the Club, and managed to navigate my way from one point to another knowing all the quickest routes based on what day and time it was. I stopped just in front of the open door leading into Elle's office and looked inside for a brief moment; in a way, it was just like the Administrators' office. The room was circular, with one rectangular desk just in front of the window, which was the only source of light I could see; the blinds covering it only allowed a few long rectangles of light into the room, revealing Elle's silhouette behind the desk as she stepped past it, flipping a switch on the wall, causing the blinds to ascend and now fully illuminate the room. I noticed a compact door to my left, possibly leading into the rest of Elle's room.
"Good to see you up bright and early, Kobalt." Elle greeted me with a nod as I stepped inside her office, inspecting the clothes she was wearing; from what I could tell, she was wearing a full black jumpsuit similar to a Seeker-jumpsuit, with the exception of her boots, each one with a long talon-like blade coming from the ankles, along with some kind of sheathed blade that ran all the way up the lower half of her left leg.
"Consider this a once in a life time exception." I joked, sitting down in front of her desk whilst she leaned back in her chair behind it. "So how are you settling in?"
"I'm settling just fine." Elle replied, pulling out a cigarette and lighting it calmly, releasing a small cloud of smoke as she spoke. "This office isn't so different from the one I had back in Falsetto; there's a lot more space in this one, though..."
"The Administrator hinted that you might have a job for me." I said firmly, trying to get back on topic.
"Yes; a job that only you can handle." Elle said ominously, letting another cloud of smoke exit from her muzzle; "to be honest, I don't trust anyone around here to get the job done except for you. You know what Blood Clan is capable of first-hand, and since I've still got some work to do here..."
"Just tell me where to go and what to do, Elle." I said softly, trying to assure her that I'll get the job done; "whatever job you have in store for me, I'll do my best to do it."
"Nice to see your confidence hasn't worn out over the years." Elle smiled, putting out her cigarette in the ashtray to her left before getting up and facing out of the window. "After arriving in New Vega, I didn't exactly get arrested instantly; I managed to hide some important data here in the city, as well as some weapons. I figured if anything ever happened to me, you'd be able to find my stash and make good use of it."
"You hid your stuff where we first met, didn't you?" I assumed, receiving a nod from Elle; we first met in the South-East district of the city, near an abandoned industrial area. If anyone needed to hide anything of value, it would be there.
"The only problem is that the 'abandoned industrial area' isn't so abandoned anymore." Elle said, an edge of annoyance in her voice; "I stashed everything in the basement area, but..."
"You think Blood Clan has already found out?" I asked, receiving yet another nod from Elle as she turned around and paced around behind her desk. "I'd only be able to gain access from the rooftop; even then, that'd mean avoiding any Scarecrows along the way, traversing down at least five stories, and most likely having to get past any Blood Clan that are already there."
"That's why I'm asking you." Elle sighed, halting her pace and facing me directly; "you're the only one I know who stands a chance against these odds."
"I'll need a fair amount of equipment." I sighed, my mind trying to work out the odds of me surviving this job; "I should probably bring a team along with me...we'd stand a better chance against Blood Clan that way."
"I would recommend you take one extra person." Elle said sternly, sitting down at her desk again but still facing me; "if you bring a whole team there's a good chance Scarecrows will notice you before you even get close to the building."
"Got it." I said quickly, getting up from my seat and making a slow exit as soon as I realised the conversation was over; "I'll get it done, but I can't say how much time it'll take. It could take all day."
"Trust me; the stuff I have stashed is worth the wait." Elle reassured me, smiling at me as I backed out of the door into the empty corridor.
This was going to be dangerous; I couldn't wait for the Enforcers to stop looking for me, otherwise Blood Clan would end up getting in the way; but I couldn't just rush out as soon as possible without a plan or special equipment.
This time I needed a plan; and I know just the person to bring with me...
