Note: the events in this story tak place about 2 weeks after those in the last chapter, and all but the 2 of the destined have been found.

The creature shrieked as the scythe blade tore through its chest, the body disintegrating into data as it collapsed to the ground. Looking around, Craig swore as he stared up at the ever amassing swarm of insectoid digimon, their mandibles clicking as they occasionally swooped, screeching at the small party. A different shriek filled Craig's ears as he turned just in time to see the young boy being carried off by one of the creatures, his flailing sword glancing harmlessly off the bug's thick exoskeleton.

"Stab up, Louis!" He shouted to the distraught boy, who gave a slight whimper as he gripped the hilt tightly, before slamming it into the underside of the insect's thorax, the point sliding up before finding the softer joints between the armour, delving in and skewering the beast. With a combined shriek, both boy and disintegrating monster fell to the ground, Craig giving a loud roar as he decapitated several of their attackers at once. The small group panted as the swarm turned away and fled; the attackers' numbers severely thinned.

"Reaper's Slash!" The arc of energy sailed after the surprised creatures, instantly obliterating at least half their remaining numbers before the others separated, flying low to avoid another similar attack.

Craig gasped as he leant over, his scythe merging back in with the simple black leather jacket that was his mantle, before turning to the still sobbing boy, lying in a pile of branches as his knuckles turned white around the hilt of his digi-quip. Sighing, he approached cautiously, knowing full well that the young human still didn't entirely trust them, having taken the greatest liking to Karen for her natural mothering instincts.

"Louis?" he asked quietly, crouching in front of the boy, "You okay?"

"Y-yeah," He sniffed, wiping his eyes as he tried to fight back the tears, "I-I'm fine! I gotta be f-fine to save Lina!"

Nodding, Craig ruffled the boy's as he helped him up, smiling kindly as he stared off into the thick jungle surrounding them. It had been three days since they had arrived on this layer, one of the few without a Citadel station, travelling through Blake's portal system, only to discover that they were too late, and it had already become a haven for the Dark digimon, the group having barely made it through before a massive gorilla-like creature and its friends had come charging out of the forest, a familiar bronze coloured pendant hanging from its neck.

The fight had barely lasted a few seconds, the party able to annihilate the low level digimon easily, but then it had only gotten worse. For two days afterwards they were forced to fight their way through the jungle, searching frantically for their target as they drove off wave after wave of the enemy ranks. And finally, when they had found him, curled up in a shivering, whimpering ball locked in a cage inside one of the enemy settlements, they had learnt that his digimon had been stolen, taken by the same wasp like creatures that had just attacked them.

Taking the brief respite they had gained by chasing off the other digimon, the group collapsed against the nearby trees, Namico lounging across Craig's lap as she drank hungrily from a water bottle. Karen sat opposite, also drinking heavily as Craig watched Nee, the kitten as enthused by Louis as when they had first found his. She reached out slowly as he lay against a tree, gripping the hilt of his sword gently and tugging, leaping back when he sat bolt upright, his eyes wide as he looked around the temporary rest spot, clutching the digi-quip to his chest.

"So, Louis," Craig asked suddenly, making everyone jump slightly, "Care to tell us exactly what happened when you first arrived? We already know about your digimon being taken, but what about before that?"

"Waddaya mean?" He asked suspiciously, glaring at Craig.

"Look, from what we can tell, all the digi-destined arrived in the digital world at around the same time, so you must have been in this rainforest for at least a month by now, right?" Craig sighed as Louis nodded, "So tell us a bit about how you survived before we showed up."

"T-there's not much to tell," the younger male sniffed, the tears welling up in his eyes again, "It was mostly Lina that did all the hard stuff; I just kept our house clean."

"House?" Craig continued, smiling to himself as the boy's face lit up slightly.

"Oh yeah, it was this awesome thing that Lina had built herself in a really tall tree!" Craig glanced down at Namico as Louis launched into story-mode, Nee watching him entranced as the boy described the building.

The white and blue feline stretched as she manoeuvred herself over Craig's body, giggling quietly as she pressed her back against his chest, slipping her arms up behind her to slide around his neck.

"Good job distracting him," she whispered, "I just hope we can find his digimon quickly so we can go back and relax."

"Yeah," Craig chuckled, "How many missions have we gone on in the past couple of weeks already?"

"Too many," Namico groaned, "And now this one is taking forever as well!"

"Well, he is the Warrior of Fire, so we have to help him," Craig sighed, "Only one more after this, as soon as we find the shadow wielder's column."

Craig nodded as he glanced over at the young boy, still talking enthusiastically about his digimon and their time together. Sighing, he looked down; a slight blush forming on his face as he stared down Namico's cleavage, surprised that something like that would embarrass him, especially considering that he had seen it many times before. Shaking his head, he gently pushed her off and stood, announcing that it was time for them to move on.

The cave entrance thrummed with activity, the wasp like vespamon flying frantically in and out of it. The small group slid down behind the fallen log they had hidden behind as Craig rubbed his eyes, draining an entire bottle of water as he continued to sweat ferociously. Namico and Karen glanced at each other worryingly, both concerned for their tamer and lover's health.

"Craig," Karen whispered, "Are you okay?"

"F-fine," the young human said slowly, "Jus' kinda hard to see with this haze over everythin',"

"Haze?" Namico asked, gasping as Craig wobbled, then collapsed back onto her, "Oh Sovereign! Craig!"

The shout caught the attention of several of the swarming vespamon, the creatures landing almost silently around the group as they fussed over the now unconscious Craig.

"A meal!" a shrieked in its high pitched voice, making the group spin around and stare in horror.

"A meal for the Queen!" another chipped in, suddenly darting forwards and snatching up the startled Nee, the little grey kitten yowling ferociously as she squirmed below.

"Food that fights!" A third hissed as it darted towards Namico, just barely able to dodge a lightning spear as she tried to defend Craig.

"And one who has taken our poison!" The final member of the group chittered, its mandibles flexing as it stared directly at Craig.

There was a brief pause as a small explosion above their heads made all look up, Nee suddenly crashing through the canopy, slamming into one of the insects and snapping its delicate body in two, the creature flailing as the enraged feline hurled the top half into its companions. Namico and Karen stared in shock as the normally docile kit unleashed a massive blast of wind and lightning, obliterating the two and a half digimon, and a large part of a massive tree, the plant creaking as it toppled over, slamming down on the cave entrance and crushing dozens of the confused vespamon.

"My Papa!" the child shouted, pouncing protectively over him, "You hurt my Papa!"

"Nee...stop," the whisper was barely loud enough for Namico and Karen to catch, Nee seeming to hear it perfectly though, the kit collapsing onto Craig's chest and sobbing, the young man placing a shaky hand on her back as he looked up at the other three, "One of them managed to just scratch me...it hurts like hell, but my mantle is helping to remove the poison...but I don't think we have that much time..."

"W-what?!" Louis shouted, "Why?!"

"Look up,"

The three gasped as they stared at the massive swarm of creatures above them as it slowly descended. The buzzing thrum of insectoid wings was accented by a strange shrieking, the group suddenly panicking as they realised it was the vespamon chanting in perfect syncronysation.

"Feed the Queen, feed the Queen, feed the Queen!"

The Beam rippled, the edge bulging up like a bubble, before popping to reveal a large hole, the inside of a large courtyard visible through the portal. The figure's cloak rustled as she walked through the portal, her digimon following close behind.

"Dammit, this isn't your mission!" a voice shouted at her through her digivice as the portal closed behind the pair, "Craig can handle himself!"

"He's been missing for almost a week!" the figure shouted back, "I don't care if I just make him angry, I've lost him once before, and I'm not about to let that happen again!"

"Mother?" the electronic voice asked as its owner formed above the Destined's digivice, "I have located him."

"Thank you, Addy," the girl said, gripping edge of her leafy cloak, "Let's go."

The clearing was filled with the sound of rustling as one of the gorilla like digimon signalled to his comrades to attack. His older sibling had been unsuccessful, but he would not, he would please their master. With a roar, he leapt out of the foliage and slammed down in the empty clearing, looking around in confusion as the rest of his group wandered around in confusion. Stepping forwards, he looked down as he felt the crunch of leaves beneath his palms.

"Sonnuva..." Craig groaned as his eyes cracked open, looking around the strange room he was in. Groggily, he tugged at his arms and legs, looking down to see them plastered to the wall by a strange waxy substance.

"Don't try, it's pointless," The voice caught him off guard as he looked over at the canine, her large, obsidian coloured ears drooping as her long raven hair hung limply over her face, "Especially for me..."

"Why...say that?" Craig said slowly, his head still spinning from the poison.

"I failed him...I failed that poor child..." she sobbed quietly, Craig watching as the tears fell from behind her hair.

"Don't worry Lina, Louis is fine...or was fine, the last time I saw him, that is," Craig babbled, shaking his head as the fogginess slowly cleared, "Sorry, I'm sure he's still okay, unless he's not, not that I'm saying he isn't, or is, or...I'm gonna shut up now, or at least until the poison is gone..."

"He's okay?!" The female asked, spinning her head to stare at Craig, the young human blinking in surprise at the young woman staring back at him, tears in her eyes as she stared at him.

"Woah, do all digimon with Tamers digivolve into hot human-like things?" Craig asked, blinking as he tried to think, "Nah, can't be, Karen didn't become more human, she just got breasts, but Namico did, and so did I, but that's obvious...I think..."

"Wait," Craig was cut off from his rambling as the digimon stared at him in confusion, "I have no idea what you're talking about; I've always been like this, just like any other Lycamon."

"Lycamon?" Craig looked at the woman, running his eyes over what he could see of her figure, "Does that mean you can, like, transform into a wolf?"

"In a manner of speaking," Lina replied, suddenly shaking her head, "And my name is Annalina, only Louis can call me by that name."

"Oh, sorry. He was fine the last time I saw him, though I'm not too sure how long ago that was," Craig replied, cringing slightly, "But don't worry, as soon as I'm out of these bonds, we'll both go find him."

"Good luck with that," the digimon sighed, "The poison not only knocks you out, it also makes it nearly impossible to use your abilities."

The cracking noise caught the woman off-guard as Craig dusted the last of the waxy substance from his clothes, his jacket rippling as he grinned up at her, the material suddenly lunging up at her.

"Feed the Queen, feed the Queen, feed the Queen, feed the Queen,"

The worker's chant echoed through the extensive hive, the drones too busy with their work to notice the two dark figures as they snuck by the edge of the tunnels. Occasionally, on would raise his wrist, staring at it before moving on, the other following close behind.

"This path will take us to Louis?" the female asked in a hushed voice, glancing up at the constant stream of wasp-like creatures just above them.

"And my girls too," Craig replied, "They're all being held at the same place."

"How can you tell?" Lina asked, glancing over his shoulder at the device on his wrist, "Louis had one of those as well, but it didn't do anything."

"I'll have to teach him the basics of how to use it then," Craig replied as they stopped beside a wall, "They're on the other side of this."

"What?!" the Lycamon hissed, "Why did you bring us here? Why not go straight through and get them?!"

"In full view of the thing inside? Hells no!" he hissed back, "My digivice is picking up massive data levels inside that room, and it isn't my girls."

Lina was about to retort when the walls around the erupted, massive clawed hands grabbing the surprised pair and yanking them through the wall. Craig coughed as he looked around the massive structure, his eyes falling on the four figures lying on the ground, the waxy substance falling off of them as they slowly rose to their feet.

"Papa!" Nee shouted, stumbling forwards as Craig was hoisted into the air, the destined automatically wrapping himself in his mantle as the clawed fist suddenly gripped smoke, the young man reforming beside the distraught feline and hugging her tightly.

"Lina!" Louis's shout caught Craig off-guard as the young boy charged towards the rising digimon, collapsing to the ground as he tripped on the uneven ground.

"The meal has come!" the words echoed through the massive dome as Craig looked up at the enormous monstrosity that occupied almost half of the space, "Let me feast!"

"That is one big bug," Craig suddenly said, the room suddenly going silent, huge insectoid suddenly chittering noisily, almost as if she were growling.

"Bug?!" she shrieked suddenly, "I am no mere 'bug'! I am Queen Apismon, the greatest of all the Rulers! I am the greatest of all of the Master's Rulers!"

"The Master again, huh?" Craig asked, walking forwards and helping the sobbing Louis to his feet, "Sorry, but I'm going to kill your 'Master'."

"Heresy!" the creature howled, "Bartand! Destroy them!"

"What?" Craig asked, confused, suddenly swearing as the ground behind him erupted, the creature that emerged flying to the centre of the room and glaring down at them, his compound eyes glistening.

"I am my Queen's champion!" Bartand growled, the blood red armour that covered him clinking slightly as he hovered above them, "I have been blessed with the strength of the Sovereign to protect her, and I shall do so!"

"Oh shit," Craig said, glancing down at the sobbing Louis, "Dammit. Louis, listen to me!"

The boy looked up in confusion as Craig suddenly dropped him to the floor, a serious look on the older destined's face.

"See that guy up there? He's a test, a test for you," Louis stared wide eyed at the enormous insect, the creature twirling his sword in its hand, "You have to be the one to defeat him, Louis. Only you are the one who can do it!"

"I can't!" the boy screamed, grabbing Craig's arm as he sobbed, "I can't do it!"

"The Lina dies," the words shocked the young boy as he stared into Craig's cold eyes, a hatred burning deep within them as Louis felt his strength melt away, "If you don't do this, if you just hideaway and cry, Lina will die, and it will be your fault."

"I...I...don't want that..." Louis whimpered, looking up at Craig as the older human watched the creature hovering above, "But...but I don't have a weapon..."

"You don't need one," Craig said calmly as he placed a hand on Louis's shoulder, "Just be brave."

"O-okay," he whispered, "Do it."

Craig smirked as he gripped the back of the boy's shirt, his mantle swirling around his arm as he hurled the boy into the air, straight at the surprised insect. The creature lifted the sword as Louis sped towards him, the pendant embedded in the chest plate of his armour and Louis's digivice suddenly starting to glow, filling the cavern with crimson light.

The ground cracked slightly as hundreds of shoots suddenly rose from the ground, the leaves entwining until they formed an almost solid looking structure. The cloak fell as Mary tossed it back, gasping for air as Annalla held her up.

"What happened?" the angel asked, worried about her Tamer, "Why didn't you carry on?"

"I...I couldn't..." Annalla turned to look at what Mary was staring at, her eyes going wide as she stared at the massive crater before them, the blackened earth no longer able to support life. In the centre of the crater, the two watched as the column of flame slowly dissipated, the seven foot tall figure emerging from the fire, hoisting an equally tall sword easily over his shoulder, the crimson armour gleaming in the sun.

"The Warrior," Annalla breathed, suddenly spotting other movement, a dark dome breaking apart, revealing Namico, Karen and Nee all gathered around another form. Picking up her Tamer's small form, she jumped into the air and glided over the scorched earth to the small group.

"Craig!" Mary shouted as she jumped from Annalla's arms, kneeling beside the other three as they looked down at the still form, "Oh Sovereign! What do we do?!"

"Take me home..." he said, making the four stare at him in surprise, "I need a shower and sleep, lots and lots of sleep."

Mary buried her face in his chest as she sobbed happily, Namico scolding Craig for scaring them as Nee and Karen hugged each other happily. Away from the group, the massive armoured man suddenly split, the plate shrinking as they formed over the young boy, the surprised Lycamon in his arms hugging him tightly.

"Oh Sovereign, I thought I'd lost you!" Lina sobbed as Louis hugged her back, "I was so worried!"

"It's okay," he said softly, hugging her back, the tears pouring down his face as he smiled happily, "I'll protect you from now on,"

"Uhm, sorry to interrupt," Annalla said suddenly, "But is that what I think it is?"

The group looked up at the ash covered structure before them, the inscriptions still glowing through the soot.

"The last column," Craig chuckled, "Lucky us."
