#15 of The Long Gift

The Long Gift 14--On the Phone By Zmeydros AKA Lucien Quinn AKA Alexi Tishen.

A couple hours later, Kurt kisses Jaime goodbye and steps out of the door to go spend time with Leneth. The moment Kurt shuts the door, Jaime frowns. He would masturbate to pass some of the time, but he's not horny and feels satisfied. He would work on schoolwork, but he'd probably just sit and wonder about how Kurt and Leneth were doing.

He slumps onto the futon for a few minutes until an urge to move around gets him off of it again. Walking over to his laptop, he checks to see if the university athletic center is open. When he finds out that it is, he gets on his winter gear and heads over to it.

He wants to treat his new body even better than he treated his old one, and working out can be really fun. When he enters the room with the indoor running track, he sees a really hot male dolphin running laps; he feels his nipples harden and decides to go try one of the exercise bikes instead. The smell of sweat in the room that houses the exercise equipment almost causes him to turn around and look for something else to do. All these scents are so much more potent now that he has a feline nose.

Once he starts riding the bike he's too distracted by the feeling of his balls moving back and forth in front of his clit to even think about the smell. After twenty minutes of biking he's tired from trying to control his erection and switches the the stair machine.

Things go a bit better and he manages to go another forty minutes before he's feeling a bit worn out. During those forty minutes, he thinks about what he's going to tell his parents and starts feeling a bit depressed. As much as he'd like to be able to claim that he understands his parents, he honestly has almost no idea what to expect.

On his way out, he checks to see if that dolphin is still running and hangs his head when he doesn't see him. He should have at least talked to him to see he was a nice person. Now he has one more reason to come back to the athletic complex...

Marveling yet again about how he's not that cold on the way back to the dorm, he starts to smile again. When he starts walking up the stairs to get to his dorm room, he starts frowning again--he's about to call his parents. There are so many excuses he could make to himself to get out of it, but then he'd have more time to think about how much he doesn't want to do it and worry about the outcome.

Once his winter clothes are off and he's sitting on the futon, he grabs his iPhone and calls his dad. When he picks up almost immediately, Jaime folds his ears down. A small part of him was hoping his dad wasn't available. "Hello?" His dad is breathing a bit fast.

"Hi dad, This is Jaime." He wonders if his dad recognizes his voice. Jaime doesn't think it changed that much.

"Oh, thank God, it's you. It was a number I didn't recognize, so I thought the bank was calling to ask for our mortgage payment again... I heard you got CZ. Are you okay? You sound a bit different." His voice is nervous and his speech is rushed.

Jaime starts to wonder if his dad is okay. "I'm fine, I'm an anthro giraffe-spotted cheetah now and I'm--" He thinks about whether he should mention his gender. Hiding it would probably make things more complex in the future. "A herm."

Jaime's dad remains silent for a few seconds. "I don't know what to say. I doubt I'd recognize you in a crowd. This is, so strange."

The words come slowly for Jaime. He really isn't sure what he wants to say to him. "Yeah, I know. I'm happy with it, though. I finally know what it's like to be an anthro... You remember when I cried about being human that one time in junior high and we had a fight? I still remember how you cried with me after I told you how much it hurt to not be in a body I felt I belonged in. CZ took all that pain away."

Dad's voice has a warmth Jaime is completely unfamiliar with. "I'm glad to hear that. I love you too much to be upset that you've changed, knowing that it's what you wanted. I'm sure Mom will come around too, but she's been too stressed out about the house to deal with what's happened to you. You know how she gets when she's overwhelmed." Jaime's dad sighs heavily. "It's almost impossible to talk to her right now."

Tears form as Jaime realizes that for the first time in years, his dad is being reasonable. He knew his mom would be harder to talk to, but he didn't think his dad would be this warm. Trying to sound sarcastic, Jaime says, "Are you okay, Dad? I'm not used to you being so nice."

His dad laughs. "I started seeing a therapist and it's been helping a lot. I'm glad you noticed."

"I'm glad you found one that's helpful. Finding the right one is probably the most important thing. Remember that school counselor that used to try to use baseball metaphors for everything? She didn't help me at all." Jaime chuckles.

"She actually started a successful baseball blog two years ago and is no longer providing sub-par care." His dad sounds amused.

"Really? I'm glad she found her calling... You mentioned something about the mortgage?" Jaime feels a bit of worry well up in him.

"Everything was fine until Debbie's work fired her instead of giving her medical leave for her carpal tunnel surgery--her boss approved the medical leave, so we were very confused when she was fired. We have a good lawyer and are trying to sue for the money and some damages, but good lawyers are expensive... We can either pay the lawyer or our mortgage." Dad starts sounding tired.

For a moment, Jaime just makes a fist. His mom doesn't deserve this. She needed the surgery because of her job. "That's terrible. What are you going to do?"

"Houses are really cheap right now, so we could just buy a different one. Maybe one that's a bit smaller now that you're not living with us. I don't think Debbie is ready to let go yet, though. She is in love with the renovations we completed last summer and the tiered garden we made for her. I love that garden too, I'll admit. I'd miss the evergreen bushes." His dad sighs.

"Moving might be a good idea." He smiles, remembering what his dad did with the evergreen bushes. "Do you still cut those bushes into shapes? I liked all the cubes you made a couple years ago."

The older man's voice loses some of its sadness. "Yeah, I made dodecahedrons this fall and the retired math professor from down the street started talking to me almost every day since he saw them. I think I understand some of the stuff you tried to tell me about computer modeling now. That guy never gives up on me. I think he thinks I'm his new student."

"That's cool. I I think I remember him, he's a thin meerkat with Harry Potter glasses, right? He actually helped me study for the ACT a couple times."

Dad laughs. "You're right. They do look like Harry Potter glasses. I didn't know he helped you study."

"You and mom were fighting a lot back then, and I hung out at Abe's house if I heard yelling when I got to the front door. I'm surprised you never caught on." Jaime cringes at the memory. His mom throwing things and claiming that his dad was cheating on her with the new secretary. He's still not sure if his dad was innocent or not.

A long sigh comes from Jaime's dad. "She had every right to be angry. I almost cheated on her, but I stopped myself at the last moment. I should have told you sooner, but I was too ashamed. We actually went to marriage counseling over the last two years and eventually it became clear that I needed more counseling. I'm glad we figured it all out." Dad pauses for a moment. "I have to be honest with you and say, you need to contact us more. I would have been able to talk to you about my counseling and how Debbie and I have been working things out. Give us some time to work out this house thing and then I want you to visit us. We really miss you."

The honesty from Jaime's dad almost makes Jaime dizzy, this is not the same person he talked to four months ago... He really needs to call his parents more. "I feel terrible. It's been months since I last talked to you."

"Four months and eight days. We should have called you, but we were afraid we'd get in another fight with you. I think things will be better now that your mother and I have worked almost everything out. Let's see if we can--oh, I have a call I have to take. Let's talk again before school starts." His dad hangs up.

Realizing that he's very hungry, Jaime sets down his cell phone and starts making a turkey, lettuce and tomato sandwich with horseradish mayo. As he pours himself a glass of goat milk, he hears his cellphone vibrating on the end table. Dashing across the room with more agility than he remembers having, he grabs his cellphone and finds a text message from Kurt.

"Having lots of fun without u. How u doing?"

Jaime smirks at Kurt's overly lazy style while he types out a response on his phone. "Having so much fun that I don't want you to come back." He puts his cellphone in his pocket and sits at the table with his sandwich and milk. After taking a couple bites and drinking a bit of milk, he gets another text.

"Was JK please dont h8 me :("

Kurt's reply causes Jaime to snicker. "Y u txt like haxx0r?"

When he's only got two bites left, his phone vibrates again. The horseradish seems much stronger now that he has a more powerful nose and it takes him a moment to read the text message through his horseradish-induced tears. "b3c4u53 1t 4muz35 m3."

It takes Jaime a minute or two to remember what numbers stand for what letters and then he laughs. He sends Kurt "lol" when he recovers. Jaime does the dishes after finishing his sandwich.

The rest of the day is spent playing video games and doing a bit of reading for his history class. An hour before dinner time, he gets a call from Leneth.

"Hello?" she says excitedly.

Jaime leans back on the couch. "Hey, what's up?"

"Would it be okay if Kurt and I spent the night together? Oh, I don't mean have sex because I know that's okay, but I mean having him sleep over here instead of over there." Her voice is warm and happy.

"That would be fine. You can spend a whole other day with him if you want." Hearing her this happy causes his heart to soar. Having them spend a day together was a great idea.

Something rustles on Len's end and then she chews on something crispy while she speaks. "We want to spend tomorrow with you, but we might want to spend another day with just the two of us after that. I think we owe it to Kurt to take things slow."

"I agree. How was your day together?"

"We went out to eat, rented a movie, and tonight I'm going to have him show me how to make ricotta gnocchi. When he told me about it, I knew I had to try it."

"That's one of Kurt's best recipes, but you should probably crack the eggs. He's a bit inconsistent with them. Or he was when he made poached eggs the other day."

She laughs. "He told me about that too."

"I love you. Have fun." Jaime smiles.

"Love you lots. See you around noon tomorrow." She hangs up.

After he eats dinner, he lies on his bunk alone. He feels surprisingly good despite the lack of a companion in his bed. If they're getting along that well on their first day together, things are better than he had hoped they would be. The next big adventure will be when they get together for a threesome.

Before he can get any more excited, he starts to fall asleep. Moving around in the gym for over two hours took a lot out of him.

The next morning he wakes up feeling a bit sore, but it doesn't bother him--it means he worked hard on his new body yesterday. He eats breakfast and reads until lunchtime when he gets a call from Kurt.

"Jaime?"

"Yeah, I'm here." Jaime's ears perk up with excitement.

"We're on our way to pick you up. Leneth wants to continue our campaign. We were thinking of picking up some sushi on our way back so we can have it for lunch. That sound good to you?"

"Yeah! I gotta go so I can get ready."

"Okay. See you soonish." Kurt hangs up.

After they've had some sushi and settled in around the table, they start their campaign. They play all the way until dinner time when they heat up some frozen chow mein and make a pot of rice. After they scarf down dinner, they get back to the game. Leneth continues her surprisingly complex and amusing story.
