The two hugged each other as friends would and then Kero rounded on Jasper. "Jasper..." He sank to one knee and pulled a small gold band with a solitaire diamond on it from his pocket. "Will you marry me?"
Jasper blinked a few times, his breath catching in his throat. "Uh..."
Kero stared into the fox's eyes hopefully, holding the ring up towards him. "I've never met anyone like you, nor anyone who could make my breath stop with a look from your eyes."
A single tear ran down Jasper's cheek and he looked from Kero to Mena and back to Kero. "I... I'm just a slave though..."
"That doesn't matter to me... will you marry me?" Kero stood up, looking down at Jasper, holding the ring in front of him still.
Jasper flung himself around the wolf, bursting into tears and hugging him tight. "I'll marry you..." Jasper cried out into the Kero's neck fur.
Kero held him close, nuzzling the fox affectionately. "I'll make you the happiest you could ever imagine to be..." He whispered softly in the fox's ear. He then pulled the fox off of him and took his right paw gently, lifting it up to his muzzle and giving it a kiss. "I love you, Jasper..." Kero slipped the gold band around the fox's finger and just smiled lovingly at him.
Jasper beamed up at the wolf and used his other paw to wipe away his tears. "I love you too, Kero..." He hugged the wolf tightly and was met halfway with a kiss.
Mena shook his head, watching as things went on and sighed happily. "So, Kero, when's the date?"
Kero broke the kiss, eyes lingering on Jasper's and then he turned to face Mena. "This weekend..." He glanced back at the fox. "If that is alright with you..." To which Jasper nodded.
Mena nodded and smiled. "I wish you both the best then." He left the room and returned with two glasses of wine. "For you Kero. And..." He held the other glass out for Jasper. "For you... Jasper..."
Jasper blushed and took the glass gently. "Thank you..."
"Call me Mena..."
"Mena..."
"You're welcome."
Kero held up his glass and smiled widely. "To a new life."
Jasper held up his glass awkwardly, blushing a little but with a smile. "To a new life..." He whispered.

The sun shone down brightly, warming the place to a comfortable level. A place had been chosen under a large blossoming cherry tree. Kero looked down at Jasper, who was sitting against the tree calmly. He was wearing a simple red tunic and looked happier than Kero had ever seen him. Kero sat beside him and took one of the white paws in his own. "You look beautiful..." Kero whispered softly.
Jasper turned towards the wolf and smiled shyly. Kero was wearing a green ceremonial garb and wore a matching Tai-chi sword on his back. "You look... I mean... you're... I love you..." Jasper blushed as deep as his tunic, smiling at the wolf.
"I love you too..." Kero leaned in and kissed the fox softly.
The sat there talking quietly while waiting for people to arrive. It was, by no means, a large gathering. Mena was there along with two of Kero's other friends. Kero introduced the blushing Jasper to the two new friends and they both congratulated him on finding the fox, to which Jasper almost died of embarrassment.
While talking with his friends, his ears caught his name. "Kerodais..."
Kero turned around to see his mother and sister standing a little ways off. "Mother..." He took Jasper's paw and looked at his friends. "Please excuse us for a moment..."
"Kero... is that your mom?" Jasper asked quietly.
"Yeah..." Kero replied, smiling softly, leading the fox over to where his mother stood with his younger sister who was about Jasper's age. "Mother... you made it, and you too Maki..."
The older lupine smiled broadly and pulled her son into a hug. "I wouldn't miss this..." She was dressed in a beautiful blue silk dress decorated with pink lotus flowers. Her hair was pinned up with a jeweled comb that matched her rings and necklace.
Kero hugged her tightly and then turned to his sister, who was wearing a similar outfit to her mother's, though of a pink colour. "It's good to see you again Maki..."
"You too Ki..." She smiled widely at him and then glanced at Jasper, who was half standing behind Kero.
"Oh! Mother, Maki... this..." He stepped aside and pulled the artic fox next to him. "This is Jasper..."
Kero's mother nodded and she nodded her greeting. "It's a pleasure to meet you..."
Jasper bowed his head in respect, trying not to shake or tremble. "The same ma'am..."
Maki giggled a little and winked at her brother. "He's cute..."
Kero nodded and grinned, wrapping an arm around the fox's shoulders. "I know..." Jasper was turning redder still and he looked down in embarrassment.
Hetaki, Kero's mother, looked at her son and smiled softly. "I never would have expected this of you... another male I mean..."
Kero's ears lowered along with Jasper's and he lowered his head a little as well. "I'm sorry to have disappointed you mother..."
His head was raised by a paw on either side of his head. "Seeing someone you care for with someone they love should never disappoint you, and it doesn't... I only wish your father could be here for this as well..."
Kero held her hands gently and returned the smile. "You don't think he'd disapprove?"
Hetaki chuckled to herself knowingly as memories of her husband returned. "I have a feeling he'd be more than okay with it..."
~~~
An hour later the priest, a youthful otter, arrived. He looked between the two canines and smiled. "Shall we begin?"
Kero nodded and took Jasper's paws in his own, looking down at the fox lovingly. "Ready?"
Jasper nodded and a tear ran down his cheek. "More than ever..."
The otter cleared his throat and started. "Dearly beloved, we have gathered here to witness the union of Kerodais Li and Jasper Mizuki. It brings God great pleasure when two people, any two people, are joined in marriage." He turned towards Kero and nodded.
Kero drew in a breath and gave the fox's paws a gentle squeeze. "Jasper, I never thought that in a million years I could ever fall in love with someone, much less that quickly. I would give up everything I have to be with you. You mean more to me than anything I've ever had or could possible have."
The otter then looked at Jasper, who had tears running down his muzzle. "I... I never had any hope... being a slave... that anyone could ever... possibly love me... I don't remember what it was like to be free... but when I'm with you.... I feel freer than I ever could imagine... having you in my life... knowing you love me... will make things much easier as a slave... and... I could never feel sad knowing that there is someone out there who loves me..."
The priest smiled nodded in approval. "Do you, Kerodais, take Jasper to be your eternal spouse, in sickness and in health, till death do you part?"
"Even after death parts us, I do..."
"And do you, Jasper, take Kero to be your eternal spouse, in sickness and in health, till death do you part?"
"Death can't stop love, I do..."
"Then, as a priest and witness of this union, you may kiss..."
Kero leaned in and was met halfway by Jasper. They kissed softly, squeezing each other's paws tightly. Hetaki wiped a few tears from her eyes and Maki sighed happily. When the kiss broke they held each other tightly and Kero's friend's cheered, making the new couple laugh a little.
~~~
Kero lay under the large cherry tree, holding the fox at his side. The ceremony was long over and it was now dark. "Jasper... there's one more surprise for you..."
Jasper looked up at Kero, tilting his head a little. "What is it?"
"You're free..."
Jasper sat up next to the wolf and blinked. "You mean..."
Kero sat up and grinned. "You're free... you're my husband... you're... well... nobility..."
Jasper laughed a little in disbelief and then threw himself around Kero crying happily. "I can't believe it... I can... I can always be with you then?"
"Always..."
