The Tales of Sorath (chapter one)
As the lights flashed outside of the house the two occupants paid no mind to them. One was to preoccupied with running as fast as he could away from his follower. The second was simply walking as if nothing was happening until he heard the second wave of sirens, then he started running. As the first man came to a turn he realized it was a dead end. Once he turned around he realized two things. One was that he was trapped. The second was that his attackers hood had fallen off his head during the chase. The face he saw was not completely human and not completely fox. He began to plead and beg the anthro in front of him to let him live. There was no response except for the raising of a customized handgun and the sound of a gunshot.
"Get down now!" yelled Sergeant Johnson as he heard the gunshot. "Everybody put on your body armor, we now know that the man inside is armed and dangerous. Remember shoot to kill we do not need him alive. We've been chasing this man for three years and I do not intend for him to get away now. Everybody get to your positions now and get ready to break down the door."
As the anthro fox bent down to pick up the casing he heard the unmistakeable sound of a door being smashed in. He cursed himself for being so slow on this assignment. He began to run to the back of the house but as soon as he reached the hallway with the door he was shot at by at least five members of the SWAT team. He ran to the top floor of the house and saw his last form of exit, a window.
Outside the sergeant was yelling at his team, "What do you mean he's not in there all of the exits are blocked just set up the net guns anyway I will not lose him now!" He then heard the window breaking. "Hurry he broke out the back window I saw him." yelled Private George. "Unit four hurry he will be at your position in two minutes so get ready with that net launcher"said the sergeant into his radio.
As the fox broke through the window he started running to the safety of the forest. About five feet away from the safety of the trees he heard a loud bang and felt a net entangling him. "We got him." said the unit four leader. "You wish." he said under his breath as he pulled the knife out of its sheath and cut the net in one swift motion. "He escaped I repeat he escaped." screamed the leader of unit four into her radio. "Well don't just stand there shoot him." the radio yelled back. "Goodbye now." said the anthro with a grin as he ran away from the bullets into the forest leaving the entire SWAT team in disorder.
After the failed mission everybody regrouped at the sergeants house."Sergeant no human could have cut through that net even with the sharpest knife available. They also would not have been able to avoid all of us so easily without knowledge of our tactics." "What are you saying Lieutenant Downs?" said the sergeant calmly even though he was obviously very angry that his team had failed to catch this person yet again"There is nothing else that it could be. The closest thing to a human that could use a gun is a gorilla or monkey and neither one of them can move as quickly as that man did." "All I am saying",said the lieutenant, "is that there might be something that we don't know about out there.
"I can't believe that I was so stupid to break the window to get in I could have easily waited until he opened it like he did every night."The fox continued to curse himself as he dialed the number of his client."Hello is this Robert"he said as he heard somebody pick up the phone."Yes this is Robert, is the job done?" "Yes the job is done so meet me at the Four Cards Hotel in room 407 to give me the rest of the payment." " OK I will meet you there with the rest of your money Mister....." "My name is Sorath." " OK then Mister Sorath I will meet you there with the rest of your payment." "Goodbye then Robert." Sorath then hung up before he heard a response.
"OK sergeant I did a check of that bullet that the mortician recovered from the body and I got a very interesting match. It seems that this bullet was modified before being fired. We did not find a shell casing if you remember so we know this man is a professional." "I know he's a professional because we've been following his bloody trail for three horrible years." said Sergeant Johnson. "Ok well it is not a normal bullet anyway. It is a modified .50 sniper rifle bullet. There are two problems with that though as I believe you know. First of all no concealable handgun could shoot anything close to this bullet. Second of all no human could hold onto a handgun like this even if a handgun could fire this bullet. It is way too heavy and the recoil would be huge." "What is up with everybody trying to say that this man is not human. The only difference between this guy and the rest of the people that we have killed is that he has a special gun and an unusual amount of strength. That is it." yelled the sergeant at his subordinate."I am getting tired of all this."the sergeant said quietly to himself as the door shut.
"Where is that man with my money?" grumbled Sorath to himself as he waited in his room."Sir you have a visitor, he says his name is Robert. Should I let him up?" said a voice over the intercom.
"Yes send him up." "Okay yes sir." He turned off the intercom system for some privacy. "He better have all of my money with him." he said to nobody in particular. As soon as he heard the knock on the door he said "Come on in Robert." He heard no answer." I said come in." All he heard was a click in response and he immediately ducked behind his desk just before the door was blown in and the gunfire started. " We know your in here so give up. You do not have to make this so difficult for us. We have chased you for years and now that we have you cornered you would simply hide. I wouldn't even think bout jumping out of that window if I were you. We are three stories up. Your legs will break as soon as you hit the pavement." "Fine," said Sorath "I am coming out from under my desk so don't shoot me and I suggest that you don't shine your lights on me." As soon as he stood up he had a light in his face. All he heard was "What the " before he jumped out of the window and safely landed on the ground below without a problem except a scratch from the glass on his arm. What he did not realize is that he left two things back in the room. He left a clump of fur in his chair and he left a little blood on the window pane.
