As the concert wound to a halt, no one noticed me sneak out from behind the stage and into the cold night. Not one person noticed the fact that there was anyone missing, and that was a good thing as far as I was concerned.

The music I had heard in there was hollow and pale compared to that which I had heard so recently. I shivered in the dark and pulled my trenchcoat closer. I knew that my career would be forfeit soon anyways, and I had no reason to follow the dress code for the consulting firm I worked for. They were real sticklers for appearance, forcing us to be perfectly dressed even when out on the street.

I ran back to my home and shut the door as soon as I got inside. I pushed all of the locks closed and ran for my bed, hoping that I wouldn't hear the eerie music again as the warm embrace of sleep wrapped further around me. However, there ain't no rest for the wicked, I've been told.

The dream started the same as it always did. I seemed to awaken into a field that was lit as brightly as the daytime, but the sky was dark and starry as the clearest night. I turned to see the figure standing only feet away from me, and she started singing.

It was a slow, haunting melody that burned through my flesh and bones as I listened to it. I heard the truth of what I had done as a consultant, how many people had been hurt and how many people had gained wrongly from it. I heard the path that my life had taken and how I was going to suffer for it if I didn't stop and change something. I heard the lives of millions of others course through the aria and the music was beautiful and terrible and I wept for the simple truth of the music.

That was when the dream changed from what I had kept dreaming so much about for so long.

I asked how I could change any of this, how I could work to help people, how I could fix what my life had done. She stopped singing the aria and turned to face me.

When she had been facing away from me, she'd been concealed behind what I'd taken to be a cloak of pure white feathers, hiding all of her features. Now, I saw her for what she truly was. The cloak parted and was held high above her, showing to be a pair of great wings. Her hair was a silken gold and her eyes were a brilliant sapphire. She had a long, fluffy tail and feline features, and her fur was a soft white. She sang to me, and this time I felt a change come over me even as I finally heard words in her song.

'Though wrong you have done and wrong you have seen, at least in this your truth can be seen. You live a long lie with a heart made of glass, and time now has come to for this darkness to pass. Live with the form that is our gift to you, and know that your path must always be true.'

'We come to you now, to right what was wrong, and though you know not how, just learn our true song. To sing the truth to those that must hear, our words and our language we show you so clear. Your life and your ways must change now for good, or what comes to all will not be what should.'

'The song is now yours, to sing as you choose, so open your doors, and you will not loose.'

While she was singing I felt a hot, almost burning sensation run through me. It started in my skin as my body grew short, soft tan and brown fur, then moved on to my bones as my body changed to look like that of something human mixed with a canine. My body took on an almost feminine cast and I was almost blinded as my face changed. I stumbled to the ground, and when I looked up there were other figures standing behind her. Some were young, some were old, some were humans, and some were other things. Finally, they all spoke together, without song or heed, as one voice, and they said to me

Live. Laugh. Love. Learn. Teach others to do so. And bring your gift to all of those whom you find in need.

My very soul resounded with the power of their voices, and I blacked out into a deep sleep until morning.

When I woke up, I had a slight headache and felt as though I were covered in a thick blanket. In a haze, I stumbled into the shower and sat numbly under the cool water until I felt clean down to the bone. I shook myself out of my stupor long enough to wipe down the mirror and get ready to shave. I almost had the razor to my face before I realized what I was looking at. Staring me in the face was a beautiful tan and brown wolf with golden eyes. I felt my ears move in alarm as I moved them around, folding and shifting their position all over the place as I made different expressions. I could hear my neighbors getting ready to work in the house next to mine and smell things that I had never noticed before. I took a deep whiff... and decided that I should run out of the bathroom before trying that again.

I managed to get into my kitchen before any other unfortunate smells were found, and I couldn't help but smell all of the food that I had there and ready to eat. I almost ate the pan as I fried some bacon and eggs, and the poor fruit bowl was almost empty before breakfast was even done cooking. I turned on the TV as I was eating and wondered about interesting plot devices as the news started up on an almost impossibly relevant story.

"And in further news," the reporter said, "there has been a case of mass comas last night as the workers for a consulting firm have refused to wake up. They were found earlier this morning as an e-mail was sent out from their server that read 'Help us, we are trapped, come find us.' Emergency teams used a company mailing list to find the employees and what they found defies logic. They have no visible injuries, and no toxins have been detected, but interestingly enough, a common factor has been found. Bob?"

The scene switched over to a hospital room, with scans shown above the person in the bed. "I'm here in the High Deserts St. Marie's Choice hospital with one of the doctors in charge of neurology. Would you care to comment on what you have found?"

The doctor was somewhere in his mid-sixties if I had to place him, and his voice was the same tone as boiled spinach should have sounded. "It seems that the patients hearing centers in the brain are receiving signals that match the brainwave frequency for sleep. As there has been no device found on or in any of these patients, it is impossible to say exactly what is causing this to happen, but there is some debate on whether-"

I turned off the TV before the man put me back to sleep. I stood up and had a quick, startling thought. Was I still a man? I quickly looked down, putting my hands between my legs, and almost fainted with relief when I found a sheath and a pair of sizable furry globes. And then tensed again as I realized my feminine hips and chest, and traveled a bit further between my legs. A sudden jolt of sensation confirmed that which shocked me only slightly; the change had included adding a gender! I set aside the urge to explore as something sank in.

If all of the employees were on that list, then I needed to get out of here before anyone came to look for me. I smiled almost sadly as I realized that no one would ever really miss me; I had drifted away from most of my friends and family, and I was only avoiding a hermit by traveling for a job that I didn't have any longer.

I grabbed my wallet and a few things before wondering how I would get out of the desert without being seen. I didn't have much time, as I heard sirens off in the distance and the howling of dogs as they got closer. I panicked, and ran out of the house without any clothes. I had my stuff in a backpack, which I threw on as I began to run out towards the mountains near the Cajan Pass.

I heard someone yell in surprise at me and prayed for a way to go on without being noticed too much. I felt myself shift a bit more and my bones creaked and popped in protest as I began to run on all fours. Everything looked to be in a greyscale to my eyes, but my hearing and smell got even sharper, and I could understand what the howls were now. They were howls of pain and loss at hearing a thing that came to take away their friends, some of whom never returned, and some of whom returned with terrible things happened to them and always sadness and worry for the rest of their friends; packmates, I corrected myself as I listened.

I ran into the mountains and heard the ambulance stop far, far behind, and decided to head to a place where I would be able to do as the angel had asked. That would require stopping somewhere that I had never even considered before, and I had to ask.

Where was the nearest furry convention?

*

I decided that I needed to find a place where I could use my internet without being noticed. I found that by considering my form I could change between a wolf-human hybrid and a full wolf, and I might be able to get into a furry convention by posing as a little lost dog and then sneaking away sometime afterwords. It sounded like an interesting plan... if I could get it to work. The only other option was to snag a dress and act like it was just an elaborate costume of some sort.

I finally stopped looking for a house of any kind as the night set on. I knew that wolves were most active around dawn and dusk, and felt like I could continue on past nightfall, but I wasn't quite sure how much I wanted to stretch what I could do. I felt a bit hungry and I felt silly for forgetting to pack any real rations. Maybe tomorrow I'd go hunting as a full wolf and be able to find something.

I heard a russling in the bushes nearby and jumped to find somewhere to hide. The last thing I needed right now was to run into anyone hostile and I knew that I'd never really been a fighter. I settled down behind one of the bushes as a woman in her mid-twenties walked into the hasty camp I had made. She was quite a bit shorter than me with black hair and brown eyes, and had skin that was suntanned to a shade that seemed natural, rather than forced on herself to look good. She had the fit, lean body of someone who was used to hiking and the like, and she was looking cautiously at my backpack and the hasty fire that I had built.

I almost cursed as she sat down near the fire and pulled out her gear. It seemed that I'd have to wait for her to fall asleep before I could get my backpack back. Then she did something that was almost painful; she pulled out a bag of trail rations and started eating right in front of me. I decided that enough was enough and I shifted into my wolf form and walked into the camp.

She didn't notice me until I was in full view of my backpack, and she froze when she did see me. I didn't let on that I had noticed her, just pulled my pack closer to me and placed it on the side away from the fire from me. When I did deem to notice her, I looked at some of her trail rations and gave her a big, sad, puppydog look.

She looked terrified when I finally looked into her eyes and I felt immediate guilt about it. I couldn't help turning myself back into a half human and appologizing profusely as I picked up my pack and got ready to leave.

I didn't even look at her until she grabbed my by the tail as I turned to leave. I yipped and sat down hard at the painful tug and look back almost angrily at her. When I looked into her eyes again, and smelled the fear on the wind that I had caused her, I couldn't help but feel ashamed all over and I refused to meet her eyes.

Finally, after a few minutes of silence, she asked "Who are you?"

"Um... I used to be known as Gene... but I think I might want to be called something else now."

She nodded as we both settled down and said, "You can call me Luna." I could see her working things over in her head and I just sat there. She finally looked back at me with an angry look in her eyes and asked, "Why did you try and scare me?"

I looked back at her. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you. I just didn't want to shock you by showing up as a half-human thing with no real explanation and scare you off. I thought that if I showed up as a wolf you'd just think I belonged to whomever made the campfire and fall asleep, when I'd be able to just take my stuff and go. Then you pulled out the food and I couldn't help coming into the camp... I'm sorry, I'm so sorry, I'm just going to leave now."

She pulled on my hand this time as I turned to leave and I stopped and looked down into her eyes. She looked a bit annoyed and finally said, "If you'd been in the camp in the first place, I wouldn't have run or anything. I mean, you're beautiful, really and I figure I'm either having a halucination or stumbled upon something that I could only have dreamed of before."

I felt myself blush under my fur and she blushed a little too. "Um... well, I'm not a halucination... but I don't think I understand why you'd dream of anything like this," I gestured to myself.

"Um... Well... I'm actually a furry, do you know what that is?"

I smacked myself on the forehead. "Oh, duh! That's why I was looking for a furry convention! Well, that was a rather silly slip of the mind..."

She smiled at me in amusement. "So, how did this happen, anyway?" she asked. I couldn't help telling her about my dream once I got started. It was like all of the stress and confusion of my work were channeled into making me tell her about it. She sat there the whole time without asking questions, then finally, when I was done, asked, "So have you tried singing?"

"Um... no," I responded. "I wasn't sure what I was going to do, really."

"Well, why not try it? You've got a willing test subject right here?"

I was a bit taken aback. "Are you sure?" I asked.

She smiled and nodded. So, I began singing.

I sang the aria that I had heard the angel sing so many times before. It had become ingrained in my very soul by now, and I knew every beat and nuance, every key change and every intonation. It echoed off of the mountains and across the valley and down into the pass. Then, without warning, the woman beside me began singing in near perfect accompanyment. Her voice twined with mine in a way that danced and played and sang the joy in life that mine seemed to have missed. We joined our voices for all to hear who could, and as she closed her eyes and sang and cried I saw her transform.

Silver-gray fur sprouted along her hands and feet, following her limbs up to her body, where her features began to change. She kept singing as she grew to stand almost as tall as I was and her melody grew to match mine even further as her features took on a lupine shape similar to mine. Her chest filled out from somewhere in the b-cup range to closer to a d-cup. By the time that we had stopped singing, her fur had taken on tan-white highlights and her tail had grown in. She stopped singing and just stood there slightly dazed for a moment.

I went over to her a bit concerned as she came back to her senses. She looked over herself and almost began to cry.

"Are you-mmph!" I was cut off mid-question as she practically threw herself on me and kissed me.

I flushed slightly as the kiss turned passionate and I began to smell her arousal on the air. She ran her hands through my fur and I explored her body in kind. She muzzled her way down to my chest and found a nipple, and shocks ran through my body and into my yet-unexplored female parts. I felt my cock stiffen and begin to slide out of my sheath, and I felt her hands as they approached the area. When she touched my cock she jumped and looked down. A devious grin slid over her face as she turned on top of me, giving me access to her needy sex.

Her scent egged me on as I felt her slide her mouth along my shaft, causing a soft moan to come from me as I began to lap at her beautiful sex. She moaned as I found her clit with my tongue and guided a finger into her sopping passage. She kept sucking on my cock as her paws found my slit and I writhed under her ministrations, barely keeping myself from shouting in passion. I redoubled my efforts as she explored my virgin passage with her fingers and almost swallowed my shaft.

I felt her stiffen on top of me as I curled my fingers, seeking that special spot inside of her that would set her off and finding it after a moment or two. She shuddered as her passage clamped down on my fingers and she howled her passion into the night.

She was panting as she turned back around on top of me and kissed me deeply. I tasted myself in her kiss as she guided herself down onto my waiting cock. It felt like a silken furnace enveloped my shaft as she ground inch after inch of me into her, never once breaking that passionate kiss. She finally hit the top of my half-formed knot and started a rhythm as old as time itself. We battled tongues as she slid up and down on my shaft and I fought for control as my balls bounced on my clit in time with her thrusts. It felt like two fires were raging inside of me and something had to give.

Finally, she growled and pushed herself down onto me as I thrusted up into her, burying my knot deep inside of her. I felt her shudder as she howled in ecstasy and I couldn't stop myself from joining her, jetting into her as I matched her howl. She finally collapsed on top of me in exhaustion, and soon we were sleeping side by side as the night closed in on us.
