The Club is a Dangerous Place (Part 6/7)

Dylan continued to hold Xavier. The otter had his paws wrapped around the dragon's neck, and he buried his muzzle in Dylan's chest. Xavier still occasionally sniffed and let out shuddering sighs, recovering from his crying. "Dylan..." he whimpered, wanting to be held closer. The dragon felt the desire, and pulled him in tighter.

Xavier wanted things to be the same again. He wished with all his heart that he could be happy with Dylan. But he was afraid. He was afraid that something would come along and his mate would be snatched up again. He needed Dylan to love him. But what if Dylan didn't love him? "No," he thought. "Dylan loves me. He said so. He said so every single time. And I believe him." Then, another thought hit him that left him worrying about their relationship.

"Dylan...Am I being too clingy...?" he asked with big gleaming eyes.

Dylan smiled. "You certainly are closer, but not clingy. I like it when you're closer"

"I...I just wish things could go back to the way they were before..."

Dylan thought for a moment. "Xavy...this may not be the best timing, but do you want to go on a date with me tomorrow?"

Xavier gasped in happiness. "This is perfect!" he thought. "It'll be just like before, and we'll be together on a date!"

"Can we, please...?" he asked, widening his eyes in excitement.

Dylan nodded. Still holding the otter, he grabbed his phone from the nightstand and called a restaurant to place a reservation. After a couple of moments, he turned off the phone. "They're closed right now..." he said, giggling.

Xavier let out a small "Oh..." "What time is it?" he asked.

Dylan checked his watch. "Oh wow, it's already one in the morning! I didn't even realize! We'll call in the morning. Erm....late morning," he said, smiling.

Xavier snuggled in closer. "C-can we sleep like this...? Please...?" he asked, a little fearful that his mate would refuse.

Dylan hugged the otter in tighter, and closed his eyes and turning off the lamp. "Of course," he said, sighing in relaxation. "Xavier really is fragile right now," he thought, "I guess I'll just have to show him how much he's loved"

Throughout the night, they would occasionally separate in their sleep. When Xavier could no longer feel his mate next to him, he would start breathing quickly from panic and would whine and writhe in his sleep. He would flail around with his arms, trying to find the dragon. When he couldn't, he would wake up and start crying again, curling himself into a tight ball, sobbing. Anytime he couldn't feel the dragon next to him, he knew that he had left him, that he didn't love him anymore. Dylan would always wake up as well, due from these noises, and would pull the otter back into his embrace, assuring him that he was still there. Xavier would slowly start relaxing again, and snuggle back into the dragon's chest, trying not to lose him again.

When the pair awoke in the morning, Xavier was still pressed up against Dylan. The dragon smiled at his mate's cute bed hair, and then gently pushed him off so he could use the bathroom. When he returned, Xavier had woken up as well. The otter was slightly panicky when he woke up and Dylan wasn't there. Soon, he saw him return from the bathroom and he calmed down. They switched places, so the otter could also empty himself. Dylan returned to the bathroom, starting his morning routines.

"What time is it?" Xavier asked quietly.

"'Air's a hock on a able"

"Uh... a what...?"

Dylan removed his toothbrush. "There's a clock on the table"

"Oh..." Xavier giggled a little. It was already one in the afternoon. Dylan came out of the bathroom after finishing his morning routines. Picking up the phone, he called the restaurant again, successfully placing a reservation for them.

Xavier patiently waited for the dragon to set up their date. He felt a little better, after sleeping with Dylan for the night. "D-Dylan...can we watch a movie again?" he asked, hugging the dragon again, refusing to let go.

Dylan checked the bedside clock. "Well, we actually have time for two...What do you want to watch?"

"I don't care...I just want to be with you..."

Dylan smiled, taking Xavier's paw and leading him to the living room. He popped out the DVD they saw a couple of days before and selected a new one. He purposely chose a romance movie, one with an extremely happy ending. Pushing the tray in and letting the machine load, the dragon retreated back to the couch where Xavier was sitting.

Dylan sat down next to the otter, who promptly scooted next to him. Xavier placed his paws onto the dragon's thigh, looking down at it and fidgeting nervously, desiring nothing more than to be held. Dylan understood and lifted the otter up onto his lap, wrapping his arms around the otter and splaying his claws across his stomach and chest. Xavier hugged the dragon's arms close to his chest and stomach, trying to be as close as possible.

The movie started. Every once in awhile, Xavier would start tensing up, and start curling himself away, trying to will Dylan to be closer. To calm him down, Dylan spontaneously and randomly tighten his embrace or shift his arms around to remind Xavier that he was still being held. Every time he did so, he could feel the otter relax slightly, and melt back into his arms.

Xavier felt more relaxed during the most emotionally romantic parts of the movie, connecting things with his own relationship with Dylan. However, things took a turn for the worse when Dylan realized he put in the wrong disc. Instead of a happy romance movie, he put in a devastatingly sad one where the main character is left for someone else at the end because he didn't appreciate her. Dylan silently cursed himself when he suddenly realized his mistake. But it was too late. When he discovered his blunder, the protagonist had already been left alone in the rain.

Xavier had been watching intently with a look of horror and hurt on his face. He turned around slowly and immediately collapsed onto the dragon's chest, crying loudly. Dylan turned off the television quickly, and looked at the DVD case. He had taken the right box but the disc itself was in the wrong case. He threw it at the wall, taking a little solace in watching it break. Xavier sobbed erratically, whimpering out unintelligible strings of words.

Dylan felt like crying. Instead of making his mate feel better, he had managed to make him feel a lot worse. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry!" he cooed, "I put in the wrong movie!"

"Please don't leave me!" Xavier wailed through his tears, almost incoherently, hugging the dragon's neck.

Dylan decided that it would be more comfortable for them to go back to the bedroom. With a little effort, he picked up the otter in his arms so he was lying horizontally against his chest. Xavier sobbed while he was being carried, occasionally moaning his mate's name. The dragon laid him on the bed and sat next to him, hugging him close, stroking his hair, nuzzling his chest, and apologizing.

Xavier sat up, clinging onto Dylan and begging him not to leave.

"I promise I won't leave," Dylan said, trying to convey that he really meant it. He hugged the otter tightly, trying to absorb all of the sadness so that his mate would feel better.

After a couple of minutes, Xavier calmed down substantially. Dylan loosened his hug and eventually let go and only held onto the otter's paws. He looked at his watch.

"Well, um...we still have another hour or so until we have to get ready for our date..." he said, "What do you want to do in the meantime?"

Xavier looked up, eyes still glistening with tears and red with distress. He opened his mouth and then looked down again. "Never mind... it's stupid..." he said, whispering the last part. He closed his mouth and his eyes, knowing that Dylan would never want to do that.

Dylan used his claw to lift the otter back up. He looked him in the eyes. "Nothing you ever say could ever be stupid," he said.

"R-really...?" Xavier asked, looking forward, although with vision clouded by tears.

"Really...anything you want to do, I'll be happy to do it, as long as we're together..." the dragon said, trying to be as comforting and romantic as possible.

"Um...I...C-Can...can you hold me...a-and tell me...that you l-love me?" Xavier stuttered shyly, looking down again.

Dylan let go of the otter's paws. Xavier felt his heart shatter again. "He...he's leaving me..." he thought. He was about to shout out "Please don't!" when he felt Dylan's arms wrap around him from behind.

The dragon fell backward onto the bed, bringing Xavier with him. Xavier turned around in the embrace, lying face down on top of the dragon's chest. Xavier nuzzled hard against the dragon, making small whining noises the entire time.

Dylan held him tightly. "I love you, Xavy," he said. He started telling him every half a minute or so, feeling the otter relax immensely every time. He mixed up his phrases, interspersing them with "You mean everything to me" and "I love you more than anything else." He tried to randomize his statements so it wouldn't seem like there was a pattern and he was just repeating himself. He wanted his mate to know that he meant every word.

Xavier calmed down a lot and stopped whimpering. He clung onto the dragon out of comfort instead of need and he seemed to have forgotten about the movie. Dylan sighed in relief.

"Should we wear anything fancy?" Xavier asked as they were preparing for their night out.

"Probably not. I mean, we've gone there wearing street clothes before"

"Oh, we've been there? I-Is it that place we went to a few days ago?" Xavier stuttered, reminded of that horrible night.

"It's somewhere else. But you'll find out soon!"

They left after throwing on a jacket. Xavier drove to the restaurant, since Dylan didn't have his license. The dragon gave directions.

As they approached the restaurant, Dylan said "This is it! Remember when we first came here?"

Xavier gasped in surprise as he saw the building come into view. It was where they had their first date. His heart fluttered while he was parking the car. When they came out, the first thing the otter did was give Dylan a hug. "Thank you for taking me here..." he whispered, a few tears of joy sliding down his cheek. The dragon happily returned the embrace.

They broke apart in order to not seem awkward, and entered the restaurant. They didn't recognize anyone from their last dinner here. If they saw someone they had met before, they didn't remember.

After they were seated, it took all of Xavier's strength not to scoot his chair next to Dylan's and give him a tight hug.

Dylan was currently observing the new additions to the menu and was deciding between them. Xavier, too busy staring affectionately at Dylan, simply decided to order the same thing as his mate.

The waiter came and took their orders. When he was gone, Dylan leaned closer to Xavier. "So, is everything going okay?"

Xavier nodded quickly. "Yeah, everything is perfect!"

Dylan smiled, and leaned back into his seat. "Hey Xavier, do you mind if I go out and make a phone call really quick?"

"Um, no. Go ahead..."

"Okay, I'll be back in five minutes," the dragon said, standing up and going outside.

As promised, Dylan was back very soon. "Who were you calling?" Xavier asked.

"Oh, just uh...someone...a friend..."

Xavier nodded, accepting that answer for now, yet feeling slightly nervous from the seemingly false response.

The pair voraciously engulfed their food when it arrived. Since they hadn't eaten anything for breakfast or lunch, they were extremely hungry. In a matter of minutes, they had cleaned their plates to a brilliant sheen. They paid the check and left the restaurant.

Xavier was driving home, when Dylan suddenly spoke up. "Xavy, can you stop here? I need to go to the drug store for some stuff"

"Oh...um, okay. I'll go with you then..."

"No! I mean...you can stay in the car. It'll only be a few minutes"

Dylan left the car, leaving a very confused and also hurt otter sitting in the driver's seat. Xavier watched the dragon as he approached the drug store, but didn't go in. Instead, he rounded the corner and headed off into another direction.

But in a few minutes, he was back, with nothing in his claws at all. "Where were you...?" asked Xavier.

"Oh, there's another drug store over there, and I went to that one instead"

"What did you get...?"

"Oh, they didn't have what I was looking for, so I left"

"Oh...okay..." Xavier said quietly, scared about Dylan's secrecy.

He drove home in silence, still fearful of what it was all about. Xavier became extremely worried. It took all his strength not to start crying again.

"What was he doing?" he thought, trying not to panic. However, the fear of losing Dylan flooded his mind, and he could only worry about possibly losing his mate.

They arrived home, and Xavier remained reticent. Once Dylan closed the front door, Xavier jumped into him, hugging him tightly. "Dylan...I don't want to lose you...please don't leave me...I love you so much...please..." he whimpered almost pathetically, tears flowing again and shaking from fear.

Dylan returned the embrace with affection. "I promise I will never ever leave you" He took out a small box from his pocket. It was square shaped and covered in red velvet.

Dylan broke the hug and showed the otter the box. "D-Dylan" Xavier gasped and forgot about his fear. "But...we're too young to get married. And is it even legal here?"

The dragon giggled. "No, silly, this is something else" He opened the box, revealing a thin golden chain coiled inside. Attached was a small heart-shaped locket. He pried open the locket with a claw, revealing a picture of them together, and the words "I love you, Xavy" carved on the other side.

Xavier gasped again, still somewhat in shock as the dragon took it out of the box and looped it around the otter's neck, fastening it behind.

Xavier lifted the locket up to his face, and saw the picture. He didn't know when it was taken, but it showed them entwined in a deep hug.

Dylan brushed Xavier's cheek with the back of his claw softly. "I called the jeweler at the restaurant, giving him instructions and texting him the picture. I went and picked up the order afterwards. Sorry if it seemed all secret and hidden or anything"

Xavier didn't care about the secrecy anymore. He launched himself at the dragon again, pulling him in to a tight embrace. "Thank you, Dylan...I love you too..." he whispered through tears of happiness.

"Whenever you doubt that I love you, just look at this and you'll know how much you mean to me"

Xavier pulled his head back slightly, and looked the dragon in the eyes. He moved forward slightly and gently but nervously placed his muzzle onto Dylan's just for a second. It had only been a couple of days since they last kissed, but to Xavier, it seemed like their first time again.

Dylan lifted up the otter by the legs, and wrapped them around his waist. Xavier held onto the dragon's shoulders so he wouldn't fall off when he was carried. Dylan walked carefully with the otter in his arms to their room, temporarily blinded by his mate's body.

Xavier took off his locket so he could shower. Right after taking if off, he enclosed it tightly in his paw and held it against his chest, feeling much happier and satisfied with the reminder. He placed it on the nightstand carefully, making sure that the chain was straight and untangled. Flicking on the bathroom lights, he took off his clothes for his shower. Suddenly, he felt two clawed arms wrap around him behind. He gasped lightly, and the hug turned into soft stroking.

"I thought maybe we could shower together," Dylan said quietly, resting his head on Xavier's shoulder, "if that's okay with you."

"Dylan...can we please?" he asked, nuzzling the dragon's head.

Dylan let go, and quickly took off his own clothes, revealing his green and blue scales. They stepped in the shower, and turned on the water, waiting for it to turn hot.

Once the water reached an acceptable temperature, Xavier stepped under the cascade, feeling the warmth flood his body. His fur became a darker color wherever the water touched him.

Dylan wrapped his arms around the otter again from behind, ruffling up the soaked fur. Xavier placed his own paws onto the scaly arms splayed across his front. They stepped into the waterfall together, so Dylan could also share in the heat.

Xavier turned around in the embrace, looking the dragon in the eyes again. "Dylan..." he moaned softly, "I love you..." He pulled himself closer, hooking his arms around the dragon's neck. He closed his eyes and closed the distance. They touched muzzles.

Phew...I hope this doesn't seem too repetitive...

I showed this to my friend (The one who challenged me to write such a sappy story), and he said "Eh...better than Twilight"

(And then he forced me to add another lovey-dovey section, even though I thought it was enough and way too repetitive already)

Yes, that sense of humor is one of the main reasons he is my friend. ^.^

And that pressuring me to add another section is one of the main reasons I hate him >:
