A new story I started, I don't know how good it is I just felt like writing, if people like it enough I'll continue it. Hope you all like it

A small brown wolf sat on the branch of a tree waiting. He had many thoughts going through his mind; most of them were about his kind and the war with the other races. His Wolfkin brothers had kicked out both the Dragonkin and Foxkin out into their own nations. The elders then thought it would be a good idea to go to war with these new nations. Well the underestimated the might of the Dragons and the smarts of the Foxes. The war had been going on ever since this young wolf was alive, he had never been part of it, well not militarily at least.

There was some rustling coming from the woods under him. The wolf looked to see a large, at least compared to the wolf, red and golden dragon wading through the brush. The wolf smiled and crouched on the branch waiting. The dragon got close enough and, bam. The wolf jumped and landed on the dragon, knocking the larger creature onto its back, the wolf sitting on its chest.

"Hey there mister dragon," The wolf said still smiling.

"Ah! Oh, Pappu, it's you," The dragon said

"Yes, it's just little ol' me," Pappu said.

"Don't scare me like that silly, you know I'm not supposed to be here, if they found me and you, well you know,"

"Yes I know, that's why I'm not going to let 'em find you,"

"You better not, this dragon likes to be alive,"

Pappu slid off of the dragon's chest and sat next to him, he was still smiling. The dragon sat up slowly and looked around. They were completely surrounded by brush, and up wind of the Wolfkin territory. The dragon sighed and smiled at Pappu.

"So, what are we going to do with my small visit this time?" The dragon asked looking at Pappu

"Well, I don't know mister draggy, I thought you knew everything," Pappu said pawing lightly at the dragons muzzle.

"You are a very strange Wolfkin," He said flinching away slightly from the pawing.

"I know, it's why you love me," Pappu said smiling.

"Right, I just wish this war would be over already,"

"Mes too, I'd love to be able to see you all the time, but my dumb elders hate everyone but their own so they make us go to war...I don't think they will stop till there are no more of anyone else left,"

"Well, they'll have their arms full when they meet our full army that's being trained right now,"

"Ooh, you has a bigger army now? Our Elders are already scared of your small ones, you draggies being so much bigger than us,"

"Yeah, it's roughly three times the size of the largest one we have now, over two thousand in it right now, the numbers still growing,"

"Wow, well we are in for a fight,"

"But, I have some bad news,"

"What is it?" Pappu said looking into the dragons eyes.

"I hate it but, I might be pulled into the war, every family has to give two warriors or a lot of gold, and my family is rich, but my dad is greedy so he will send two of his sons, and I don't know who he will choose," He said looking at Pappu.

"No, you can't go into the war,"

"Pappu, it's not my choice, if I don't return in a week then you know where I am,"

"But, Max, what if..."

"Don't think about the what ifs, just think about when we get to see each other again,"

"I'll try,"

Max smiled down at Pappu and nuzzled into the side of his muzzle. Pappu murred softly and nuzzled back. The dragon wrapped his arms around the smaller wolf and pulled him close holding him tightly, not so much so that it would hurt the wolf but tight enough.

"I love you Max," Pappu said nuzzling into the dragon's chest.

"I love you too Pappu, and nothing will keep us apart for too long, I'll make sure of that," Max said and kissed the top of the wolf's head.

"Promise?"

"Until the day we die,"

Pappu felt warm tears running down his cheeks, Max must have felt them on his scales. The dragon gave the wolf a reassuring squeeze. Pappu looked up at the dragon, looking into his dark emerald eyes. Max smiled and leaned down kissing him on the lips. There kiss lasted for several seconds, Pappu wanting it to last forever, wanting the moment to never end. But Max pulled away.

"I need to be getting home now, and I'm sure you do too," Max said rubbing Pappu's cheek with his paw.

"Can't we stay a little longer?" Pappu asked

"You know what would happen if we were caught," Max said and licked Pappu's cheek, "I love you, this will not be our last meeting, I promise you that."

"I love you too, I'm going to miss you if you have to go,"

"I'll miss you too,"

Max kissed Pappu once again and got them both to their feet. Max hugged the wolf tightly and smiled. And, without a word, the dragon let go of Pappu and walked away. He watched until Max was out of sight then leaned against a tree and slid to the ground. He put his face into his knees and began to cry.
