We were about to leave the kitchen, but I stopped Trevor, pulling him back by his paw. I looked around the room. "Trevor, where's Scott." I felt his paw tighten around mine. "Trevor?" I looked in his eyes and he looked furious. "Those kids that beat me up... they got Scott too. He had to be sent home unconscious." "Wha?" He noticed he was squeezing my paw and he let go. I put my arm around him. "It's ok, we can meet up at school." "That's only a week away." "Really?" I got sad. "Yeah, but it's ok, we can still have fun at school." "Yeah, fun and school, two words that should never be used in the same sentence." He giggled and we walked outside. Maxx, Zack, and Chris were talking to eachother, but we weren't paying attention to a single word. "What do you want to do today, pup?" Trevor took my paw into his. "Let's spend the day away from the old guys." I motioned to the tigers and dog, who were still talking. "Lets go." He pulled me into a run and took me to the mall. "Surprised I remembered where it was." He took me inside. "What do you want to do first?" I looked around and saw my favorite pizza place. "Right there." I pointed to a large shop, filled with people. "It's kinda packed." "I know, but I know someone there, he can get us whatever we want when we want it." We ran to the shop and walked in. There was a line almost to the door, but we walked past. "WILLY!" I yelled as loud as I could, drawing attention to me. Many furs turned their heads. A tall, muscled orca walked out of the kitchen door. "Holy crap." Trevor's jaw dropped and he stared at the sexy orca. "Hey, Mike, hows it goin?" "Pretty good, I guess, considering the past few months." He looked at Trev, who was still staring at him. "This your boyfriend?" The question gave Trevor a jolt, but atleast it snapped him out of his daze. "Trevor, this is Willy, Willy, this is my tiger, Trevor." "He's pretty cute." Willy looked all around Trevor, studying his every detail. "I could say the same to you, big guy." Trevor was blushing through his fur. I leaned in close to Trevor and whispered in his ear. "He is gay, yes, but he has a boyfriend, a chameleon." I returned to my original position and smiled at Willy. "So, what brings you here?" "We need a slice of pepperoni pizza." "Of course, anything after what you did for me a couple years ago." He rubbed my head and ran back to the back of the store. "What did he mean?" "Nothing, I'd rather you not know." "Fine, I will ask Willy, then." Willy came back with a huge slice of pizza. "This is a slice!?" "Yeah, that's why this place is my favorite." I took the pizza and gave Willy a 10 dollar bill. "Keep the change, Willy, just a bribe for you not to tell my boyfriend about that time." "Ok, bye!" We ran out the door and headed back home.
We pushed the door open and ran inside. "We're back!" They were all sitting in the kitchen together. We took out the pizza and split it in half. "Even in halves it's still huge." We both dug in but were done in a matter of seconds. "You two are pigs." Maxx hugged us both. "Oh, I almost forgot, Mike, im gonna go check on Scott, you should go to the school and get that card they signed." "K." We ran out the door holding hands, but split away as soon as we reached the road.
I ran all the way to school. It was a long run, but I was there in minutes. I pushed the door open and ran to the front office. "Hey, Mike, haven't seen you in a while." A persian cat at the main desk said. "I know what you're looking for." She reached behind her and pulled out a small, white envelope. "Here." She threw it to me. "Thanks." I ran out the door again, but slowed to a walk. I was a little tired, and a bit sad. I didn't know why I was sad, but the feeling just rushed over me for no reason.
The walk home was a long one. I had dreaded getting back, but I still didn't know why. I reached the door and a paralyzing fear ran over me. I grabbed the door and pushed it open quickly. I stepped inside and walked to the kitchen. Maxx was crying with Zack and Chris on either side of him, trying to comfort him. "What's going on?" I ran in and they all looked up. Chris ran to me and hugged me, covering my face. "Mike..." His voice was weak and shaky. "Trevor..." He could barely talk. "He was hit by a car, Mike." My whole world crashed around me. I couldn't take, move, I couldn't even breath. Tears fell from my eyes and I was shaking like an earthquake. "Mike?" He let go of me and got down on his knees. "He's in the hospital. The car hit him, but didn't break anything, he's just going to be... sleeping for a while." I couldn't say anything or move, I could just listen and feel the tears running down my face. "Mike, say something." He put his hand on my shoulder and shook me lightly. A tear fell from his eye. He picked me up and put me in Trev's bed beside the stuffed animal. I didn't move, too caught up by the thoughts running through my head. I eventually fell asleep, distracted by the many things going on around me.
