Tana - Intro
It's good to be back.
So this is just the story intro, the main story begins 14 years later, when Tana is 16.
Do you guys think this will make a good story?
"You know we can't get attached to her, Lori. This is just like every other G.I.O.E.. Our job is to raise her and report her behaviors and learning speed."
Lori nodded and sighed before saying, "You know it's more complicated than that, Jon. This one will actually learn. We'll have to name her, make her feel like part of the family. We can't just loose her into an ecosystem and watch what happens like the last few times. This time they've given us an actual child...."
"And with great timing, too. At least she'll have a brother." He said, placing his hand on his wife's pregnant belly.
There was silence for a time, and they both watched the sleeping form in Lori's arms. A two year old, genetically engineered hybrid of Human and Cheetah. They knew how many would have bitterly disapproved of such a creature, God probably among them, but it wasn't their place to say no. If they had, she'd have been given to another pair of observers to raise, anyway, so they figured they might as well make sure she had good, kind ones.
They'd been informed that their new home would be located deep in a forest, with only one simple dirt road leading to the nearest town, a curvy, winding two hour drive. This would allow the girl ample outdoor play room, as well as a means to test how much influence her instinct would have on her. As part of the experiment, any immediate medical needs that couldn't be handled by trained professionals like Jon and Lori were five to ten minutes and a helicopter away, all 911 calls would be automatically forwarded to that private hotline, and as a courtesy the same benefit would be extended to their coming son. They'd receive monthly stipends of money, on top of what Jon would earn at his new job in the town, to support the project and keep everything running smoothly, and on top of it all, telemarketers couldn't contact them, and such a job as this exempted them from all but the common sales tax.
The house was fully furnished with the best and latest technologies, and likely the world's comfiest beds, chairs, and couches. It was a one story, three bedroom building, complete with a combined kitchen and dining room, a living room, two bathrooms, one in the parent's room and the other in the hallway, a playroom across the hall from Jon and Lori's room, and a lovely living room directly behind the front door. They were also supplied with a garage, an electric car made to last at least three days of straight driving before it needed recharging, and an empty back room, located behind the garage, with which the occupants could do whatever they wanted.
Everything else of want or need could be easily obtained in town, at one of the markets, and a catalog would come for the hybrid girl every month, so she could pick from outfits, hygienic supplies, and accessories, already tailored to her unique body.
Absolutely everything had been thought of, and if by chance one thing slipped their minds, it could be quickly amended. All that remained was for the Gatti family to leave the facility and settle into their new lives.
Jon finally broke the silence by asking "So have you named her yet?"
Lori smiled slightly and nodded.
"Tana..."
