Chapter One ~ Job Hunt
Rien had met Noah in a fight he was in. Rien tried to help him because something inside him made him. Although Rien got really badly beat up by 2 bullies and their leader, a white wolf, he is okay. Rien _'__ s old friends had all went away for the summer and now it seems like he wants to be friends with Noah. The white wolf seems to think Rien is someone named Relicks and that he forgot something about why he wants to kill him._
Rien sat alone in his room, sore from the fight yesterday (that he lost). If it wasn't for his sandy orange fur he'd have bruises all over his torso. He went on his laptop and wrote his journal about yesterday. After that he went downstairs and made himself something to eat before he took a shower and left to find a job. Rien went to all the local fast food places and he also tried at the stores in the mall. He looked for hours and when lunch came he sat down to eat at a new cafe called Urban Tail's. It was a nice place, Rien lined up to order something cold because the weather was really hot today. When he got to the front of the line he saw a black and white husky who seemed to love his job.
"Cheers mate, names Nick what can I get'cha?" He was Australian. Rien looked at him with a fake smile.
"Looking for a job, is there an opening here?"
"Afraid not mate. So, an ice latte to go?" the husky said.
"Yeah thanks" Rien said in disappointment. He got his coffee and sat down. There was a note on it behind the cardboard cup holder.
"Meet me at the fountain at 3:00 pm today if you still want a job." Rien looked at the husky; he smiled and gave him a thumb up before attending to the long line up of customers. It'd be pointless to ask in a line like that, he could easily block the question with the fact it's a busy day and he couldn't hold up the line.
By the time it was 3, the mall seemed oddly deserted no one was around as far as Rien could see then the husky came from around the corner.
"Ahh, there ya are mate. You know we can't have someone like you not under our watch."
"Someone like me!?" Rien was really offended; he thought he meant someone gay.
"Yes you are a special person. Why don't you join our little group? We call ourselves the Demonic, pretty catchy eh mate? You would be our fifth member, you'd be called Epsilon."
"I don't understand, why me?" Rien looked around the area; yes this was really deserted for a mall. The husky was still in his work cloths so it seems as though he came straight from his work. There were plenty of places Rien could run if things got tough. However the fountain is the center of this mall, he picked the spot there had to be a reason.
"Because you're special I said mate, get it through your head your Epsilon the fifth guy we were looking for. Mind ya we have been looking for a long time, nearly 3 weeks since before summer started. I'm Gamma." He said
"You said your name was Nick and it says right there on your name tag, they wouldn't hire you under a false name." Rien said, idiot like anyone would be named Gamma.
"No, no, no you're taking this all wrong. You see this, it's cool isn't it, it's like no one is in the mall. Everyone is at the coffee shop, just as you were drawn to it. It was my friend's special power that made you go there. You didn't even know you were under his control. See his power affects everyone differently, sometimes you're thirsty, sometimes you need a break from your old coffee place, but you wanted a job. Mate, that made me laugh! because we have a job for you." Nick pulled out a black card "If you want to join that's fine, see when you're in the demonic you are given the power to tell if someone else is special like us. See ya mate I gatta tell my friend to stop making all those people go to the coffee shop its making my job awfully hard." he said, so plain, so simply as though he did it before and who knows maybe he has.
The hardest part to believe was the fact that he was drawn to that coffee shop, yes he was thirsty for something cold and he wanted a job but that was coincidence. No that new place has been open for at least a week or so. They had everything ready and they had employees who knew their job. How about now, only now are there a few people coming back through the fountain. It can't be a coincidence then, there is something that they did to make everyone go there. Rien read the card aloud.
"The owner of this card has been selected to be a member of the Demonic. If you wish to join please write your name on the card and post it in the mail." he turned the card over to see it was more like a post card. The p.o box number at the back didn't tell him an address so he couldn't tell where it was going; it also had all the stamps it needed. It was going somewhere local for sure. He didn't know what to do so he just put it in his pocket and continued looking for a real job but no such luck today.
"Hello Relicks" Said a soft girl's voice. Rien turned around to see a girl behind him smiling. She was wearing a hood so you couldn't see her face. "Here" she said and she skipped away. Rien was already tired of receiving random cards and letters from random strangers. He looks at the paper and unfolded it, and what he seen shocked him. It was an old picture he drew when he was a kid. There he was and next to him was a picture of his best friends Ark and Rika. How could he forget them!? The last time he ever seen them was when... when he lived on an island with a forest. That can't be right he was born and raised here in North Paw. No wait, he was born in a forest town, and he grew up on that island and on a beach. Impossible he remembered his life perfectly, but now he remembered another life more clearly? Rien felt light headed, too many memories rushing into his brain he couldn't really handle it. Rien slowly walked home and in about an hour he finally got home and he took a long nap.
"Ark, Rika you two are my best friends. I'll do what ever it takes to protect you." Rien said. Then flashes of more memories came to Rien in his sleep. He woke up, finally knowing the truth or whatever it was. Rien had two friends named Ark and Rika, where have they been all his life. Who was that girl that gave him the paper in the first place, where did she get it and why now? This was all too coincidental to be an accident. Rien thought about it more and more and couldn't come up with even a crazy idea of how this all could happen so fast. Rien sat there thinking and thinking... What was it that girl called her?... Relicks. Yeah that was Riens nick name, or was Rien his nick name? No it had to be Relicks because there are legal papers using the name Rien, or maybe he changed it?
"I gave him the paper of his friends. He should remember a lot of things now my lord-"
"You idiotic girl!!!! He can't remember too fast or he'll repress the memories! Make him remember slowly or his head won't take it stupid girl!" The white wolf screamed. "I'll kill you, and all those people you call friends, all 3 of you will die. Relicks, Ark, and Rika. You will all pay." He growled.
"Master, why use me for my powers? Why not simply do it yourself?" She asked.
"Because you are not from this world are you girl?" He said, and smiled. Her silence made it clear he was right. She was from another world.
