"Then and Now" - Day 3, Chapter 4
#4 of Then and Now
This chapter isn't too long, since I haven't had too much time to continue writing. What you're looking at here is literally fresh off the Word document, with only a second glance to check for grammatical mistakes. I hope I'll have one or two more chapters up before the end of the week for you guys, since you've showed so much love.
Enjoy.
Chapter 4
I did as Li asked, and surprise, surprise, it worked. Twice. We drove eachother to the brink of passing out, then just lay there in bed and panted.
"For the first time..." Li huffed. "You were the one leading..."
"Yeah... Yelling at my boss... Really gets the blood pumping..."
Li laughed in between breaths.
"You get me a lot more excited, though."
"Really? I never would have guessed."
I felt movement on the bed, then Leanne's tush was in my face.
"What are yo- Oooh God!"
There's no denying it - wolf furs are a lot better at oral than human women or any other kind of fur. Obviously, I didn't mention my past crushes to Leanne, but Uni was a strange place filled with strange events. Nevertheless, I didn't intend to ever leave this wolf after that little show.
Leanne was ready to talk about the relationship with her parents after finishing. She lay down on her stomach, upper torso on my chest like the night before and asked me to brush her hair. I did, of course.
"How do you know? That they've changed their mind?" The wolf murmured.
"All will become clear soon, don't worry."
***
For weeks after Morgan's death, I was in a constant state of depression. My speech held no emotion, my actions held no flair. It was the second time I received a mental kick to the stomach, the first time being Leanne's disappearance. In more ways than one, I worked like a zombie, shuffling around the Hospital and helping patients without any actual involvement or conversation.
One Saturday morning, my doorbell started ringing. I dragged myself out of bed, knocking over an empty Whiskey bottle in the process. Down the stairs I went, holding the banister because I didn't trust my legs to support me. After the long, arduous journey across the living room, I got to the door and opened it.
There stood Roger the Horse Fur. One of my better friends at the Hospital.
"Jesus Christ... You look awful." He told me.
"Are you just here to discuss my state, or do you have something important to tell me?" I retorted, a little more forcefully than intended. I shut my eyes and took a deep breath. When I opened them again, I was a bit more calm. "Sorry. Come in."
Roger walked past me. I closed the door and turned to face him.
"Well?" I asked. I knew he was holding something in, and I wanted to get rid of it, then get rid of him.
"The boys and I are really fed up with seeing you this way. We pooled the money from our last six pay checks and booked the Playboy Mansion in Florida for the whole of next week. Your... Birthday falls in the middle of that week."
"With respect, Roger, but have you even looked at me in the last few weeks? I'm in no condition to travel, and certainly in no condition to stay with a bunch of bunny furs." I sat down on a chair in the living room, while Roger parked his rear on the couch.
"See, that's the idea. The girls there are really good at talking. They'll clear you up in no time."
I glared at him. "You're not going to leave until I agree, are you?"
"You need this. I'm sorry, but in your current state, you're seriously unbearable to a lot of the staff that care about you."
I rubbed the bridge of my nose. "I'm going to hold this extortion against you for the whole trip."
"I'll take that as a yes." Roger laughed. "Go take a shower and get some stuff packed. The plane leaves in three hours."
A cab took us to LaGuardia Airport, driving right into the hangar bays. Outside one of them stood a large, double-decker private jet, painted completely pink, with the black Playboy symbol stamped on the rear fin.
"So much for subtlety." I sighed.
We stepped out of the cab and walked in step to the boarding stairs. I hesitated.
Roger prodded me. "If you don't go up there on your own, the guys will come down and drag you up."
Upon entering the cabin, I heard a cheer. Champagne bottles popped open. In the seats sat five other Doctors from my private circle of friends, a bunny fur next to each of them. The cabin itself was very spacious, with a refreshments table on the far end and fluffy pink carpets underfoot.
"Surprise!" Michael, general surgeon/wolf fur, shouted.
I didn't even smile.
"What's downstairs?" I asked Roger.
"A bar. But the party's up here-"
"Don't follow me."
True to what I was told, downstairs stood a large bar that stretched the length of the cabin. Well over two hundred bottles of liquor sat upside-down on the wall, and there was a less ecstatic colour scheme - brown, with a hint of red for luxury.
The bartender was nowhere to be found, so I just took a seat. I wasn't down there to drink, only to be alone. Such an outlook defeats the point of such a trip, but hey, I didn't go voluntarily.
Even after three months, Morgan still hung on my mind. If we had both known that the other was single...
Well, you get the point.
I heard a flush, followed by the click of a door. A Husky fur walked out of the bathroom and behind the bar.
"Sorry to keep you. What will it b-... Richard?"
Unmistakeable change in tone - this Husky remembered me. I focused and looked her over. Chest tightly wrapped by a red silk vest. Under that was a pearl white shirt with a collar and cuff links that stood out on her silvery fur. Blonde hair flowed down over her shoulders and down her back. Her eyes were what caught me - one blue, the other green. A very cool effect.
"Hi, Danielle." I said, even managing a small smile.
"What the hell are you doing here? And where's Leanne?"
"I was dragged here against my will, and that's a good question."
"Huh?"
"Leanne left me."
Danielle stood with her paws on the bar-top, calculating. "No, I don't believe that. She never would have left you. You were perfect for eachother."
"I thought the same thing. Then one day I get back from town, and she's gone. No note, no call. As if she vanished into thin air."
"What are you talking about? She didn't even say goodbye?"
"Nope. Left. Three weeks later I find out from her parents that she's joined a bike gang."
"Christ... I'm so sorry." Danny walked back around the counter and sat on the barstool next to me. "I can't begin to imagine how badly that must have shaken you."
"Yeah. And three months ago Morgan died in front of me."
"I knew she died, but not how."
"Ketonal overdose. Some guy left her for a model."
"She practically was a model, though."
"But he didn't like the fact that she lacked breasts."
"That is a stupid reason to leave someone."
"You think?" I sighed, leaning on the counter, staring at the polished wood, only ever so slightly scratched by drinks glasses being dragged over it. "I've been in a depression since that."
"I don't understand." Danielle put her paw on my back.
"Morgan asked me to kiss her... On her deathbed, while Dialysis machines hummed behind me. She asked for a kiss. I gave it to her, and then she died."
Danielle stayed quiet for a while. Then she moved forward and embraced me.
"I can't believe how much shit you've had to go through." She whispered. "But if you need to talk about anything, and I mean anything, I'm right here."
I hugged back, relishing the physical contact from an old friend. "Thank you."
***
"Danielle never mentioned anything about being a bartender." Leanne said.
"It didn't sound like you two kept in contact."
"Hm, yeah. We didn't really talk anymore after I joined that gang." She rubbed my side. "I'm sorry for interrupting. Keep going."
***
I spent well over three hours of the eight hour flight in the bar, talking to Danielle. As it turned out, she netted quite a nice job with the Bunny airline, being paid as much as the pilot for keeping the patrons happy with her drink-mixing skills.
We were sitting in one of the four small alcoves opposite the bar. Red leather seats surrounded small, round oak tables in a half-crescent. For the time being, I was facing Danielle, with the table between us.
"There's a bartender college in San Francisco where I got my degree."
"You need a degree to be a bartender?"
"Sounds stupid, right?" Danielle smirked.
My mood had improved considerably after a few shots of rum, making me happier and generally more approachable in conversation. Danielle had taken off her red vest and undone the top three buttons of her shirt, revealing a bit of cleavage.
"I thought so too. Turns out, they can teach you a lot about alcohol."
"How exactly did you end up here?" I asked.
"Ah, an old Uni friend was selected to be a Playboy bunny. I was already a bartender by then, working in LA." Danny leaned on the table with her elbows, as if getting closer to tell me a secret. "So she calls me up and asks if I want a job. I tell her, I already got a job. She tells me how much I'd get paid, and ka-ching. Dollar signs in the eyes."
"Speaking of your eyes... I never mentioned this at the party, with Morgan coming onto me and all, but you have really beautiful eyes. I love the different colours."
"Ah, well, thank you, Richard. You know, if you want to get into my pants, all you need to do is ask."
That surprised me. "Really?"
"Really." She cleared her throat. "Just... Let me get off my shift first. The plane isn't going anywhere once it lands in Miami."
I nodded. "I'll keep that in mind."
"What about you? Why are you here?"
"Well, as I said, Morgan's death put me in depression. My friends, the guys on the floor above us, thought it'd be a great idea to drag me out of my home kicking and screaming and take me to the Playboy Mansion, in which they booked a whole week."
"All of this to make you feel better?" Danny whistled. "Those guys must really love you."
"Plus, it's my birthday on Thursday."
"To hell with Birthdays, I say. As long as you look good, you decide your own age."
"Preach it, sister!" I shouted. We both laughed.
"But... You really need to visit my hotel room on your Birthday... We need to celebrate, after all." She grinned.
"Oh, I don't know... There are a bunch of bunny furs upstairs... And even more in the mansion..."
"I give a better hickey than a bunny."
"Good point."
"And... I can do this..." She pushed her breasts together form the sides and pointed her muzzle down towards the table, making puppy eyes at me.
"Oooh man. You keep doing that, you'll end up on this table with your legs pointing at the sky."
"I'll make sure to do it once we're in my room. Sound good?"
"Yep."
Danielle relaxed again. By total coincidence, our eyes met. We sat there, saying nothing, just gazing.
"Those eyes... Get me every time." I murmured.
"I think you missed out an adjective in that comment." She giggled.
"Wha-... Oh. Hard." I laughed. "No, your eyes are beautiful, but it's all of you that makes me hot under the collar."
"A lot of men tell me that. But you're one of the few who I can say the same to."
I smiled. "We're in that 'Rough Sex Imminent' zone again."
"Aye, true." Danny nodded.
Thuds became audible down the bar, prompting Danielle to button up her shirt.
Roger approached, sitting down on a barstool closest to the alcove.
"I came to check if you were feeling any better." He said to me.
"Well, yeah. Thanks for asking. How are you guys doing?"
"The look but don't touch rule is frustrating." Roger smiled awkwardly. "Sitting there with a raging hard-on, but unable to do anything about it."
I laughed. "You should've read the 'Bunny Code' before booking this trip."
"What's that?"
Danielle explained before I could. "It's a set of rules that all Playboy Bunnies follow. At the top of that list is 'No sex with customers'."
"Are you a bunny?"
Danielle rolled her eyes. "Did you really ask me that?"
"I mean-"
"No, I'm not going to have sex with you. Number one, because you're not my type of guy. Number two, because Richard's already beat you to the punch."
Roger stared at me. I shrugged. "Sorry, bud. I'm just lucky, I guess."
"Well," Roger sighed. "at least the trip made you feel better, and that's what it was for. I'll leave you two alone."
He got off the stool and returned upstairs.
"Not your type? What's that supposed to mean?" I asked. It came out with frustration rather than curiosity. "Sorry, said that wrong. I'm not angry."
"It's alright. What I meant is that I don't like Horse furs."
"A bit of racism there?"
"No, not really. They think that just because they have dicks the size of a woman's arm, it automatically makes them the most attractive and lusted species on the planet."
I kept on the friendly side. "Not all of them are like that."
"I know, but most of them are. The way your friend asked me if I was a bunny? Both stupid and demeaning."
"That I can understand. He's not usually like that."
Danielle sighed.
"Hey." I laid my hand on her paw. "People say stupid things all the time. There's no way to escape it, but there's also no benefit from getting emotional about it."
"You're right, as usual. God, I wish I wasn't working. I want to snuggle up to you so much."
***
I was interrupted yet again. Not by Leanne, since she was paying very close attention to me without saying a word. It was the phone by my bed.
"Better not be another telemarketer." I warned, rolling over to pick up the phone. "Hello?"
"Richard! Damn it, I can't believe what you did! None of the guys can!"
I had to move the phone away from my ear, the voice was so loud. When Roger finished shouting, I spoke.
"Roger, I understand you're ecstatic, but right now I'm trying to spend some time with my lovely wolf."
"Ah, no worries, then. Thanks, from all of us."
"You're welcome." I put the phone back down and turned on my other side to look at the lovely wolf.
"He sounded happy." She said. I studied her eyes as I had done many times in the past. Intelligence and love showed the most through the stunning green glow.
"Well, yeah, I just got rid of the only person that made our job unbearable."
Li's paw came up to stroke my cheek. "I watched you while your boss insulted me. The words just bounced off when it was about you, but when she came to me? I saw how quickly she went through your fuse."
"What was I supposed to do? I'm in love with you, and I'll be damned if I let some harpy try to hurt you."
"Would you really do that? Give your life for a stupid little wolf fur like me?"
I sat up. Leanne did the same.
"You're not a 'stupid little wolf fur'. You're smart, sexy and I love you to bits."
She shrugged off the compliment. "But you're worth so much more. You save lives on a daily basis, treat it like nothing special. I can't do anything like that. I'm-"
I put my finger on her muzzle as I did to Judy.
"Silly wolf. You think that telling me you're worth less than me will make me change my mind? No. I love you. And as long as you're with me, I couldn't wish for anything else."
A tear welled in Li's eye, rolling down her gray cheek.
"Hey... Come here..." I spread my arms. She slowly lay down in them, with her back on my chest.
"What was the first thing that caught your eye about me? When you looked at me for the very first time?" Leanne asked, her voice hushed.
"Your eyes." I told her, without hesitation. "Your amazing, magnificent green eyes."
Li giggled. "You sure it wasn't my tits?"
"Yes, I am."
"Do you still feel the same way?"
"Yes, I do. Leanne, nothing happened between me and Danielle."
"But it sounded like you two were heading right for the bedroom."
"Turns out, she was married. We got into the bedroom, started kissing like there was no tomorrow and the doorbell started ringing. Hubby showed up."
"Oh shit." Leanne frowned. She had slipped down to my lap, looking up at me.
"I buttoned up my shirt and grabbed a fresh sheet from the wardrobe - no idea why it was there, but it probably saved my ass. So I stood by the bed with the sheet around my arm like a waiter. Hubby fell for it. They kissed and asked for some privacy."
"Did you speak to Danny again?"
"She somehow got my number. Called me to apologise. Well, it was fun while it lasted, and I felt better afterwards."
I moved my hand to her crotch and rubbed. Received a small whimper.
"H-hold it."
I stopped.
"You mentioned that lioness, the one who spilled beer on you."
"Megan."
"Oh, now you're really pulling my leg."
"Cross my heart."
"Then you hold that thought while I give you what Danny didn't."
