Chapter 1: The First Encounters
#1 of Opposites Attract
It was already going to be a hot one this Monday and the morning sun wasn't yet a few hours old. The school bus was already hot as all the kids sat in front of the school waiting for the bus to let them out. In the back row of one of the buses was a young feline, sitting in a bench seat all to himself as he was wearing his football jersey from Saturday night. It was common practice for the team members to wear their jerseys to following Monday after a victory. Last Saturday was a huge win as his school won over their rival high school by the narrowest of margins. All through the bus, other kids were talking to him about the game. Some stood on their seats and turned to him talking not paying any attention to the bus driver yelling at them to sit down.
"Are you kidding me Jay? That was a hell of a throw!" A young gray furred Doberman said as he tried to mimic Jason throwing the game winning ball.
The cat sat back with a wide smile on his face, "Oh please. It was a desperate attempt."
Jason normally didn't brag about his actions on the football field. However he had to admit, this last win felt especially good. "I was about to get plowed by three lineman so I just launched it." The rest of the time on the bus was like that for Jason. It was like he reached superstar status in one night, not that he was complaining.
Suddenly the bus driver opened the door of the bus and instantly all the students stood up and fought their way of the bus and into the front courtyard of the school. Soon other kids were walking up to Jason and congratulating him on the game. Jason could do nothing but nod and smile as he made his way into the school. As he walked down the hallway designated for the juniors and seniors, where his locker was located, he saw a few of his buddies from the football team. They talked and commented each other on the game and a lot of praise went to Jason and Chris Williams, the lucky recipient of the throw. He opened his locker and grabbed his things as he got himself ready for class. He heard the bell rang which meant that classes will be starting in five minutes. The hallway was like a clogging artery as only the center of the hallway had flowing traffic as many of the students stayed by their lockers chatting.
Jason wasn't a bad student. He tried his hardest to keep his grades up so he could stay on the football team. Last semester was a close call as a D in English and Social Studies brought his overall average to below the standard for the school's sports. That didn't fair well with his parents and his coach and in all honesty, he was getting quite sick and tired of hearing from his parents about his grades. "There more to life than football, Jason. What's going to happen if you don't have good grades and you don't play football anymore?" He mimicked the voices of his parents in his head. It wasn't until his coach, a former army drill sergeant, grilled him in his office. He would have rather listened to his parents one hundred times over than the listen to his coach. So there he was in Math and he had to admit, he hasn't had a 95 average since elementary school. He had a hidden sense of accomplishment as he almost felt a weight off his shoulders. He liked the feeling of not being scared of his parents, intercepting the report cards and either trying to change the grade if possible of simply make it disappear. He heard the bell ring again signaling the beginning of his class day.
The next two classes went by the same, subtle and uneventful. As the day progressed, fewer and fewer students were coming to him to congratulate as he figured by now the whole buzz of the game was dying down. He felt good seeing kids who he never knew or ever really liked talking to him. He also couldn't help but enjoy more women were talking to him than usual and he thought that wasn't possible. He had his eye on a few of the females in the school but he didn't know whether he wanted to worry about a girlfriend as his biggest fear was if she was going to make him choose between her or football. He couldn't see himself walking around the mall carrying assortments of bags from shops in his old football jersey while his girlfriend would be talking on the phone with one of her friends. Boy did he see THAT all too often.
It was mid-day and it was time for lunch. He made his way into the lunch line that had already spilled out into the hallway as a line of students were up against the lockers. He waited and waited as the line slowly made its way into the cafeteria. Looking on the cinder block wall next to him he looked to see what was for lunch. He grinned as this day just seemed to be getting better and better. Today was cheeseburger or stuffed crust pizza day, probably the only two things the school had to ever offer that actually tasted good. With the white Styrofoam tray filled with a cheeseburger, a small carton of chocolate milk and an orange. After he rang out he looked for a table filled with red mesh jerseys, in other words the football team. You couldn't miss them. They were probably the loudest in the cafeteria. He sat down and chatted with them as he began to eat his lunch. He couldn't help but chuckle as the replayed "the play" as they were calling it as Mike, their left tackle, grabbed the orange off from Jason's tray and told Devin, another wide receiver, to "go long." Devin stood up and ran in slow motion as the orange became air-born. Devin tried to make it look dramatic as he caught the orange and fell to the floor and then stood up and was doing a poor imitation of Cris's touchdown dance and then spiked the orange. It made a splatter noise as juice and pulp splattered about. The cafeteria cheered and clapped. Jason simply rolled his eyes and try to pretend he was pissed off at Mike for taking his orange only for it to meet such a demise on the floor. He heard all too often about how people hated Mondays, however it was Mondays like this that Jason could easily live with.
Suddenly Frank, a very heavy pit bull who was one of the offensive lineman, grabbed his orange. "Kyle, go long!!" A thin cheetah popped his head up and dropped his slice of pizza jumped out of his seat. Kyle was the best receiver on the team due to his natural speed. The pit bull grinned, "Hey guys see that Kelly chick? Watch this." With a grunt he stood up and threw the orange more like a line drive baseball over towards a booth where a young skunkette was sitting by herself. Kyle saw the orange and cut through the tables about to catch the orange when suddenly a loud booming voice rang in everyone's ears.
"MR. DOBKINS!!"
Kyle couldn't stop in time. Apparently one of the lunch monitors got a hold of the principal, Principal Harmen, and he decided to make an appearance. The boys saw the old beaver and quickly ducked their heads and ate and talked like they had nothing to do with the situation. With a loud bump, Kyle smacked into Harmen stopping Kyle in his tracks and made the now scared cheetah land on his rear. The orange zinged on by and smacked hard against the wall and exploded and showered the nearby students with juice and pulp, but it was Kelly who got the brunt of the explosion. The group couldn't help but chuckle at the scene as the principle walked over to their table. "Gentlemen I want to see ALL of you in my office now!"
The pit bull perked up, "What about our lunch?"
The elder beaver narrowed his eyes at Frank, "I think you boys are done for the day."
They all stood up with grunts and moans and milled out of the cafeteria, Jason included. He looked over at the young skunk covered in orange residue. Suddenly, Kyle leaned in and whispered, "You think when she'd spray someone now it'll be orange scented?" The cheetah couldn't help but chuckle as the entered the office. Boy did they get reamed for that little stunt. No one openly admitted to the deed. As soon as lunch was over however the lunch monitors were in the office as well as the truth came out. Jason only sat there, as Kyle and Frank got their sentences. Each received three days of in-school suspension.
Afterwards the principal walked up to Jason. "Mr. Lynch?" Jason perked up his head, "You are the captain of this fine football team but I believe you should not stop being captain when you are off the football field. From now on, if you are the leader of your team I expect to see you keep your team in line is that clear?"
Jason wasn't too happy getting talked to by Principle Harmen. He did nothing wrong and the boys on the team were old enough to take care of themselves, but he wasn't in the mood to argue. The bell rang and the team left the office giggling and chuckling. Jason walked out and headed for his locker to get his books and binders for the second half of the day's classes.
At his locker he couldn't help but hear some of the girls laughing. "It was hilarious she was absolutely covered in orange juice."
Jason only winced, he had to admit Kelly got showered in the orange's wake of destruction. He listened in again to the feline girl, "She was sent down to the nurses office and she had to wait there until her mom came and picked her up." Jason sighed and shut his locker. He walked off to his next class which was computer science and a class Kelly Clark was in with him. He looked around the room and sure enough she wasn't there. He felt the pit of his stomach drop as guilt was kicking in. He didn't want to hear it from Principle Harmen but maybe he was right. Somehow he felt responsible about the act. For the rest of the day, that's all he heard was the orange incident that by the time he got home from school it weighed heavily on his mind.
Jason laid in bed that night staring at the ceiling. His arms crossed behind his head in only his boxer shorts. His mother and father were downstairs arguing about something as usual but he didn't pay attention. Today's events kept replaying like a broken record that he just couldn't stop. He looked over to his alarm clock that read 10:42. He let out a quiet sigh as his mind took one more trip to the cafeteria from earlier before the orange splattered over Kelly. He thought for a moment about her. He suddenly realized she rarely sat with people in lunch. She was always by herself with her muzzle buried in some book. He knew she was in some of his classes but he noticed she never spoke with anyone. He remembered she moved to the school back towards the beginning of the year but she never seemed to fit in from the start. Every school has them, the runts of the student body. However, there was usually a reason why, whether it was because of how they looked or talked, dressed or what they liked. He sat up, he didn't want people to think the football team was composed of just bullies and idiots with no respect for authority. That they would pick on people they saw were inferior to them. It was unacceptable. "What could I do though?" He thought to himself. "I can't just walk up to her and apologize. I didn't throw the orange. Not to mention if I did I wouldn't hear the end of it from the guys." It was quite a predicament and for once he didn't know how to handle it. His mind continued to work as he drifted into sleep.
In what only seemed like minutes, the alarm clock buzzed loudly by his ear. He let out a muffled moan into his pillow as his paw reached and turned off the alarm. He turned over, his black fur rustled a bit about his body. His paws ran through his hair as he yawned. He crawled out of his bed and began his morning routine before the bus showed up. Standing in his bathroom he looked in the mirror seeing his reflection staring back at him with blood-shot eyes. He began to get himself dressed for school. Whenever his mom did the laundry the first thing he would ever wear was his favorite pair of jeans and this time was no exception. Next, came a white t-shirt that tightly hugged his torso. The lines of his body now apparent in his shirt. He looked at himself and couldn't help but pose and flex a little bit in the mirror. He pulled his shirt tight around his belly and flexed. For months now he has been trying so hard working out so he could try to show off some stomach muscles but alas nothing noticeable. He put on another t-shirt on over the white one and rolled up the sleeves a little. He then put on a watch his grandfather gave him before he died. He let out a gasp, it never seemed to fail, he caught some of his fur in the clasp of the watch. "At the rate I'm going at I'm going to be the only kid in school who sports a furless left wrist." He said to himself with a chuckle. Next he put gel in his black hiar and tried to get his hair to have a spiked look.
Once satisfied and he brushed his teeth he headed downstairs into the kitchen. On the table was his breakfast, a granola bar and a banana. He looked at his mom who was on the couch watching the news.
"Is there anymore cereal?" Jason asked.
The older feline turned her head, "I don't know Jason did you buy anymore?" She said sarcastically and looked at him with a snarl.
He quickly backed off and grabbed his food. Obviously his mom was still hot from the argument she had with his dad last night. Before he decided to say something else to piss her off even more he simply grabbed his breakfast and headed out the front door. A few of the other kids were standing at the corner of the street waiting for the bus. Most of the kids at the bus stop were younger then he was.
"Hey Jay!" A young fox waved.
"What's up Mikie!" Jason slapped paws with the elementary age todd.
"Hey did you throw an orange at some girl yesterday?"
Jason was taken back a little by the question, "No. Where did you hear that from?"
The todd scratched his arm, "I overheard my sister talking about it over the phone with one of her friends."
Jason let out a sigh but quickly regained his composure, "Nope, wasn't me sport."
Mike's sister was a gorgeous vixen at the school, no not gorgeous, she was smokin' hot. Since she was a senior she no longer took the bus, she drove to school. The two had a little fling back in middle school but nothing serious. However he's caught himself wishing on numerous occasions he did keep it serious if he knew she was going to blossom into the sexy vixen she was today. He knew if he wanted to he could get her in the sack easily but he felt it wouldn't be right. He began to eat his breakfast as the younger kids talked about what they were going to do at school today. Minutes passed as he heard the diesel engine of the bus and squealing brakes coming their way. He took the last bite of his banana and tossed the banana peel into some neighbor's bushes. Thanks to the innocent little todd he began to think about Kelly again. He could only imagine the hell that poor girl was about to experience today.
The ride to the school was the usual. People talking about general nonsense. The talk about Saturday's game was nothing more than a memory now. He sat and chatted and fooled around with the other students. A half hour later Jason found himself making his way to the hallway with his locker. However, something was different. He heard a lot of the kids giggling and pointing. He walked past his locker to see what was going on. Suddenly a strong scent of orange filled the hallway. "Oh no..." He thought to himself. Suddenly he found the source of the smell. It appeared someone decided to smear an orange all over someone's locker. Orange pulp and rine was forced into the vent holes on the top of the locker. Normally he would have found that funny like everyone else but it was far too obvious who's locker that had to be. For the first time, he actually felt disgusted with himself and the people around him. He was going to figure out who did this; and if it was someone on his team, he was going to make sure they would know he wasn't amused. Suddenly Jason heard a lot of the students quieting down and telling others to be quiet. He even heard one of the boys say, "SHH! She's coming." His stomach dropped again. He didn't want to see this happen to her, this was just going to far.
Jason turned his head and saw her, her paws hanging onto the straps of her book bag. She never noticed the students looking at her as she approached her locker. To Jason, the whole scene was transpiring in slow motion. He wanted to do something but he couldn't think of anything to do nor he couldn't find it in himself to actually move. She suddenly stopped in her tracks nearly in front of Jason as he assumed she started to catch the scent of orange in the air. In an instant her normally blank, expressionless face turned to that of despair and sadness. Jason was dying on the inside, to see her like that was killing him. With an audible sigh she began to walk towards her locker. Jason closed his eyes and let out a sigh himself. Looking back over he watched as she began to turn the combination lock on her locker. The other students were stifling chuckles as her locker opened. Jason's eyes widened a little as what looked like the inside of a used blender. The entire backside of the locker door was saturated in squeezed orange juice and pulp. Whoever did this must have used a good dozen oranges as chunks of orange that was forced through the top vent holes were expelled everywhere. Her books, her binders, her jacket, everything. The hallway suddenly burst in laughter as Kelly slammed her locker door and stormed off.
Jason only shook his head. He never had a problem with having a little fun with some of the students from time to time but this was spinning way out of control fast. He walked back over to his locker and began to fumble around with the lock combinations.
Suddenly he felt a paw on his shoulder and someone leaned in, "Dude wasn't that the funniest thing?" He turned his head and saw Gavin, a snow leopard who played first baseman on the school's baseball team during the spring.
Jason swallowed hard and shook his head, "Yesterday was funny but that was just wrong."
The leopard stepped back with a sly grin, "Oh come on don't be a poor sport about it man. They're only fuckin' with her."
Jason's ear perked slightly, "Who's they?" Batting an eye to the leopard before he finished the combination on his locker. The opened the door and placed his homework on the small top shelf of the burgundy colored locker.
"Well it was Frank's idea. I guess he was a little pissed off about getting his In-school suspension. So he decided to fuck with her one last time before he headed to the ISS room." Gavin said with a chuckle, still amused.
Jason only nodded and placed his books in his book bag. He slammed the locker shut, showing he was getting more than irritated and turned to Gavin. "Why would he be pissed? It was his fault for chucking the orange over by her in the first place." His voice picking up a little showing a little more emotion than he wanted to.
Gavin stepped back holding up his gray paws, "Woah woah. Don't yell at me man. I didn't do shit. What's your problem anyways?" Jason stepped to the side and briskly shook his head, "Nothing Gavin. I'll see you in gym."
That little scene put Jason in a bad mood for Math class. He sat at his desk, his head resting on his propped up arm. Twirling around his pencil and doodling in his notebook. From time to time he pressed a few keys on his calculator to make it look like he was doing something productive. He looked up at the clock every now and then getting more and more frustrated. He wanted the class to end, he had a bone to pick with a certain pit bull. In what seemed like an eternity the bell rang and Jason quickly left the room not even bothering in writing down the homework assignment his professor wrote on the board. He walked as fast as he could to the ISS room since it was nearby where he was he figured he could steal some time before his next class. At arrival of the room he saw the door open. Looking in he saw Frank sitting at a vacant desk daydreaming. The feline peered around the door jam and saw no one was in. "Must be getting his coffee again." He said to himself as he snuck in. Before the pit bull could see Jason the feline's paws clinched the pit bull's shirt and forced Frank to look at him.
"Jay what are you doing here?" Startled from Jason's grab.
"What the was FUCK was that all about this morning?" Jason leered at Frank.
The pit bull only laughed, "Ha, I heard all the people laughing. What did her face look like?"
Jason's tail only curled as his anger soared, "Not cool Frank. I don't know what the hell you're thinking but the was out of line."
"Dude. It was an orange. It wasn't like I shoved her in the lockers."
"You might as well have. You listen to me right now Frank. I'm stopping this shit before this get even more out of hand."
The dog tilted his head in confusion, "What do you mean?"
Jason let go of the dog and stood, "We are not here to bully around the other people in this school."
Frank smirked, "I'm not bulling anyone."
"You listen to me right now Frank. I don't want to see you or ANYONE else associated with an orange or with that Kelly girl. Understand?"
The pit bull snarled back, "What the fuck dude? Why do you care all of a sudden?"
Jason shook his head, "I don't care what anyone else does to her. I don't want to see this football team terrorizing people for their personal enjoyment."
Frank shrugged and turned his head, "Whatever. If that's what you want, I won't mess with your girlfriend anymore."
"You mother fuc..." Without thinking the feline clinched his right paw into a fist and cocked his arm back.
"HEY!!!" Jason turned his head and saw Mr. Gange with a cup of coffee in his paw. The elder fox looked at Jason with a serious look. "I suggest you leave immediately Mr. Lynch before I make sure you sit next to your friend tomorrow." Jason huffed as he left the room heading to his next class, Chemistry. Jason walked in ant sat down in one of the stools behind a workstation. He looked over at Kelly and saw her head hung low. The feline only narrowed his ears trying to imagine how she felt right about now. Suddenly the sound of the old badger professor filled the room. "Good morning class." The badger said in a slight accent. A few of the students responded back while others moaned showing their lack of enthusiasm. "Today we'll be doing a little hands on experiment about chemical reactions. I will be handing out a lab booklet in which I want to see completed by the end of the class. You and a partner of my choosing will follow directions in the booklet and write down your observations for each reaction." The badger walked about the room while he talked, plopping a packet in front of each of the students. Jason only briefly looked at the packet and moaned. Not in the mood to do any work, he laid his head on his paw again and closed his eyes. The professor walked to his desk and grabbed a clip board, "The the groups are...Henry and Cathrine, Dan and Cris,..., and lastly Jason and Kelly." Jason's ears shot up and his eyes popped open. He quickly looked over at Kelly.
"Oh shit..." He whispered quietly to himself.
Kelly got up and nervously moved into the seat next to Jason. The feline felt that no one should feel so nervous approaching someone but within the last 24 hours, he really couldn't blame her. "Great. She is probably going to be a bitch after what happened this morning." He said to himself as she sat next to him. "Hey..." He tried to break the tension but seeing her only nod without even looking at him showed his efforts were only in vain. The professor waited until all the students were situated and then he spoke up, "Alright kiddies. You have an hour to complete the lab. I'll be at the front desk if you have any questions." With that, the sound of glass flasks clanking against the work tables began. Jason opened the booklet and read the first step.
"Take the flask with the label 10% NaOH and the flask marked 10% HCl and measure out 100 mL each into an empty flask and write down your observation.(Warning avoid skin contact!)"
Jason reached into the plastic bin grabbing the materials. "Look Kelly..." He started, trying to speak quietly so no one else would hear. He took another deep breath, "I want to apologize for my friend's behavior. It was clearly out of line. Yesterday at lunch was purely an accident." He knew that was a lie but he tried to make her feel a little better.
Without looking moving her eyes from her work packet she quietly spoke. "Next you're going to tell me today was an accident as well right?"
Jason sighed as he continued to setting up the glass flasks. "I'll admit I felt bad about yesterday. However, today was clearly uncalled for. I made sure whoever did it know I wasn't amused." He measured out the solutions and poured them into the flask. The two solutions fizzled and bubbled similar to dropping an antacid into a glass of water. "I want to assure you that I will make sure no one on the football team won't mess with you again." He began to write down in the booklet. He looked at her feeling uneasy about the whole situation not knowing whether she was going to something like breaking down and crying or hauling off and decking him. He looked down the counter to her table and saw her science book smeared in orange. He sighed, "If you want. If you need to use the book to look up something you can look up mine."
Kelly set down her pencil and leered at Jason with a scornful look. "And what do I have to do? Do your homework? Write a few essays so you boys can play football?"
Jason was taken back a little, "What? No. I'm just trying to be nice."
With a snap back she retorted, "You want to be nice? Leave me alone." With that the skunkette turned her attention back to the lab.
Jason wanted to say something but figured nothing right now was going to get through to her. With a sigh the two continued to work on their lab without speaking a word to one another.
Jason was hoping a little weight would come off his shoulders after he apologized but the burden remained. All he wanted was to show Kelly not every kid labeled as a "jock" was a bully or a tyrant, especially him. He needed to do something for her, but what? He looked over as saw Kelly try to carefully peel two pages apart from one another as the juice made them stick together. He got an idea as he couldn't help but show a slight smile in the corner of his muzzle. The packet was relatively simple to do, it was just a matter of doing it. But with Kelly Clark sitting next to him the packet seemed to go by a little faster than normal. Classes are normally an hour long but Jason and Kelly had the lab done in about 40 minutes. Jason cleaned up their table as Kelly walked up to their teacher and handed in their packets.
Looking up, the professor smiled at Kelly, "Hopefully you didn't let Mr. Lynch simply copy off of you."
Kelly looked back over her shoulder at Jason. "No sir."
The badger nodded, "Well here's the homework worksheet for you and Jason. If you want, you guys can leave early."
Kelly returned to the table and handed Jason the worksheet, "Mr. Bonocci said we can leave if we want."
Jason perked his ears up and smiled, "Perfect!" Without saying anything more he put his supplies in his book bag and left the classroom.
The black feline quickly made haste to the library trying to put his plan into action before the bell rang and he didn't have a lot of time. Upon entering the library he signed in at the desk telling the vixen at the counter he was working on a research paper. He milled between the bookshelves, peeking around to see if anyone was around to see him. Soon he snuck his way to the supply room door where the school's textbooks were stored. He grinned as he bent down and reached his paw and felt for something. He remembered that he discovered that the vixen was losing her temper when teachers were coming in almost daily for textbooks that students would steal from the classrooms. She taped a spare key to the underside of the bottom shelf next to the door.
After some feeling around he found what he was looking for and grabbed the key. He looked around one last time before opening the door. He shut the door behind him quietly and turned on the light. He quickly looked around for another copy of his class's chemistry book and other classes he knew Kelly was in with him. He let out a sigh of relief as he found copies and quickly placed them in his book bag. He then slowly tipped toed out of the room and replaced the key. He then left the library on his way to the main office. Within minutes he was approaching the main office. He looked up at a wall mounted clock and saw he had 15 more minutes. He stepped in and smiled at the secretary. "Hey, I was wondering. I am having a little problem with my locker. I just want to make sure I simply didn't forget my combination before I get the janitor."
A petite dog sat at the desk and shook her head, "No, I'm sorry I can't do that."
Jason was expecting that and decided to plea a little bit. "Aw c'mon I only have a few minutes til my next class and I need to get into my locker."
The dog shook her head, "If you want I'll go get the janitor." Seeing no way around he nodded. While the canine grabbed a walkie-talkie and talked to the janitor, Jason pull out his notebook and grabbed a piece of paper and pencil. As he waited for the janitor he wrote a little note.
"Hey Kelly. I know you said you're Chemistry book was alright but
having orange pulp rotting on it isn't to good either. So I decided
to try to make amends between you and us football 'jocks'.
Jason.
P.S. Try to keep this one clean."
Just as he folded the paper and placed it on the inside cover the janitor walked in. They headed towards Kelly's locker while Jason tried to explain the sudden problem with the locker. When the janitor opened the locker and saw all the orange, he looked at Jason. "Y...yeah that's probably it. Some people were playing a prank on me and stuffed oranges all over. I have been having a problem since. I was going to clean it out when I had my free period. If I still had problems I was going to call you. The old looking fox shook his head and walked away talking to himself about how kids were today. Jason was excited that his plan worked. He placed the books on the top shelf after making sure there was no orange residue present. Just as he closed the door the bell rang. He quickly walked away like nothing happened but had a slight smile on his face as he headed towards his next class.
Kelly stuck around in the classroom and continued to work on her homework, or at least tried to. She tapped the eraser tip on the desk as she thought about a little while ago. She wondered if she had a reason to act the way she did towards him. Technically Jason had nothing to do with either situation, he was more or less guilty by association. Yet there he was apologizing to her for something he didn't even do. She let out a sigh as she continued to think. She was always a loner, one to be by herself. She was like that ever since she moved to this new school. No one really seemed to take a liking to her and she was just fine with that. But despite her enjoyment of tranquility, there was also loneliness. Jason was the first to really talk to her in a while and she drove him away like throwing away a used gum wrapper. She began to feel bad... and a little angry at herself. Friends were few and far but most of them were from her old school. She really had no one to hang out with or simply to talk to.
Before her mind could wander more she heard the bell ring. A little startled as she apparently lost track of time, Kelly quickly put her belongings in her book bag and headed towards her locker. She reminded herself that she would probably spend her lunch hour cleaning the mess so her locker would be safe to use again. Walking down the hallway, her eyes narrowed a little. Her locker looked like it had already been cleaned. She cocked her head a little in confusion but quickly dismissed that the janitor must have seen the mess and he took the liberty to clean it. Her paw fumbled with the combination, then she opened the locker. She was met with another surprise. "What the..." She whispered to herself as a new arrangement of brand new school textbooks rested in her locker. She reached up and grabbed the Chemistry book and gently ran her paw along the cover. She then noticed a piece of lined paper sticking out of the edge of the book, she quickly opened the book and spotted the note. She carefully opened the letter and read it to herself. Closing the cover she hugged the book tightly to her chest and sighed deeply. Her cheeks burned a little as she blushed and for the first time in a while, a smile radiated from her face.
