32 (DSV Nautica) Twilight Falling
Nothing as going right. Nothing could go right out here. The damage was severe, they needed a full drive recalibration, and on top of it, the resonance wouldn't reestablish itself for another 5 standard days. Just perfect. The Thanatos was in even worse condition. It could fly, and that was about it. How in the world were they gonna see this one through?"Matriarch? We are ready." The council chair spoke softly, heading back into the chamber. This was going to be quite a spectacle. Time to pick a captain. The matriarch headed in after him, carrying herself toward the of the table, and taking her seat. Her robes conformed to her body, fanning out, making her appearance much larger than she actually was."So...we need a captain.""We have decided on a list that we have decided to submit for your consideration, ma'am..." The list flashed up on her screen. A small smile crept onto her face. The name she wanted wasn't there. Of course not. She was too shady for their liking. "Fine choices, But this is the Mors, gentlemen, and ladies. We need a truly fitting captain to the ships role. And I see no names here that fit that role."
A council member rose from his chair. "Matriarch....surely you are not thinking of that captain you favor so much, Nee'Aki'ee'oh?""I have considered her, but ultimately, she must remain on the Erebus. The Mors on the other hand, needs someone else...""Lay'Kay'ee'n?" Came a voice from the far end of the table. The council member from Local enclave 7 had spoken. That was unusual, for him to be so forward, yet he showed determination. The matriarchs brow furrowed in surprise, at both the speaking up and the selection. The room was quiet. A few grimaces shot around the room, before all eyes slowly turned to the Matriarch. A damn fitting choice...and potentially deadly."Speak to her." The Matriarch rotated the chair to stare out the window again, back to the council. This left her with an odd feeling in her gut, one she was not accustomed to. For once, she didn't have the answers. The next few days would surely be either a blessing or a curse on the empire.Protectors escorted the Chair of the council to the captains row aboard the city, exchanging glances with each other. The particular captain they were going to visit was a little...off from the others. Upon arriving, the protectors rapped on the door. It silently slid open revealing a dark room and a lounging figure on a large pillow. Or bed, it was difficult to tell. A moment later, the Council chair noticed she was fully nude. He twitched.
"Perhaps I shall come back later....""That wont be necessary...but if you wish to i have no problem either way." The voice was smooth, seductive, with a hint of danger behind it. The Ayr'een lying down, was a dark, dark green. She held a small stick in her hand with a small trail of
steam wafting from the tip. She pressed her lips to the opposite end, inhaled, and exhaled again, letting out a stream of water vapor."So...She sent you to speak to me about the new battleship?" The females lips curled in a smile, as she laid down on her stomach. The council chairman's lip twitched in irritation. She was a piece of work."Yes...she wants you to captain the ship."The females eyes lit up, those jade orbs glowing with glee."I accept..."Flare finished the primary diagnostic. 65% of the Thanatos was offline completely. The jump drive was offline as well. FTL was operating at 35% capacity, they were slow as hell. Their repair conduits were totally blown out, weapons down, and worst of all, fighter controllers were completely offline. That was just the start of the ships problems. The dragons had torn holes in the hull in several places, not easy. The ship wasn't the only problem. She had known that Lyn would be at best, moody over the loss of her limb, but she was downright mean. She had snapped at several junior members of the team, shown extreme emotional swings, and was missing details. Flare heaved herself out of the captains chair and knelt next to the pilots pit.
"So...what are you up to?""Running a diagnostic on the engines, Ma'am." Lyn murmured, trying to pretend to be absorbed in her work."Hm. And the third engine cell?""Oh..." Lyn swore and quickly ended the diagnostic. She had been bleeding energy out the conduit.Flare stood up and motioned to the other two in the room. "Leave us""But Ma-" Flare shot the Junior elite a look of venom. They both bowed of of the room rather quickly.Flare circled around and stood in front of Lyn in the pit, her ankles on the level with Lyns eyes."Lyn...you have lost a good part of your life. A large part of it. Your injury isn't one easily recovered from."Lyn opened her mouth to speak, looking rather upset and angry."Shut it." Flare snapped.Lyn complied."I can't pretend to understand what you are going through. No one present can. But others have lost more than you. What did the whole crew of this ship lose? Quite a bit I would say."Flare held up the tags of the former captain of the Thanatos."Also. We are counting on you. All of us. There's 15 souls aboard right now, and each one of us are reliant on you to pilot this giant beat up hulk. I don't need you moping around over your loss. There's time for that later. You are an elite of the protectorate. You set an example and you have a duty to your commanding officer, and to your fellow protectors. So if you can't be counted on and you are going to fail, you are dismissed."
Flare pointed at the door.
