Another Love Story: Chapter 3 - Nowhere else to go but up...
#3 of Another Love Story
Third installment of the Another Love Story series :] I know I'm uploading these very close to each other, but I might as well. I have in mind those first episodes of a series and if they get popular ratings, then I make it a long lasting thing. I forget what those things are called and its gonna be bugging me for a while now -.- Anyhow, we're starting to see a side of Damian, a more caring side, not implying that he wasn't caring. I intended him to be a bit disclosed from people. Maybe for the next installment, I'll give Damian's point of view. It's time we discover a bit of his character.
ALSO! Comments would be greatly appreciated! and a rating to see where I could improve!
As I showered in the locker's, I heard a couple of guys talking on the row of lockers behind the showers. One voice sounded too familiar. It was Damian's. I could make out that low rumble anywhere.
"Did you see that catch, dude!?" Said an unfamiliar voice.
"It was amazing! I can't believe he was able to do that!" A second. I was beginning to think it was the whole row of guys sitting in the bleachers, there were about four of them, including Damian.
"It was pure luck." Said an unimpressed third voice.
"I didn't think he was gonna be that good."
"He's just a sophomore, and he's in choir too." Said Damian. The other guys just started talking over each other at this news and they couldn't believe it. I was really flattered and stunned that he would actually listen. "I think he's got potential. He could be a running back."
"Break him in, Damian. We could use a good runner and catcher like him."
"I'll try, I already asked him and he said he wasn't interested in football."
"Who cares?! Make him join, whether he likes it or not! We could sure use him in next years qualifier!"
"I'll see about it."
I ran over to the restroom and dried myself and changed in the restroom stall. I began to think about joining and then I thought about why I really wanted to join. Was it for him, or for actually playing? Who cares! He was on football and he wanted me to play with him! I was so excited.
The bell rang and I walked to the counselors office and went to see Mrs.... I walked in her office, but no one was there. I was in a hurry to get home and tell mom and sister the good news...then I thought about it and realized Miranda would be busy with her boyfriend and my mom was getting wasted...I had nowhere to go. I left a note saying I was late, then I walked over to the bleachers and sat there and looked up at the sky.
"Hey, you took my spot." boomed the familiar voice. I shot upright and saw Damian. He was standing in such a sexy model pose that I thought I would've just jumped on him right then and there and fuck him. The image made me blank at the fact that he was there. I stuttered and stood up, but of course being clumsy as hell, I tripped on my shoelace that decided to come undone and I fell to the side of the small bleacher. 'Thud!' the sound of trash cans crashing and landing on the floor echoed throughout the field. I groaned in both embarrassment and pain. Damian rushed over and threw the cans in a heartbeat and lifted me gently and seemed to be concerned for my being. "Are you okay?! Where does it hurt?" He asked.
I checked my arms and they were fine, I could move my neck, though I was sore, but it wasn't anything bad. I tried to move my ankle and I let out a loud yelp. "Ow!!" I barked as I stopped trying to move it. He laid me down on the bench and spotted which ankle. It looked huge! It was swollen and throbbing. "Oh, fuck me!" I groaned. I tried moving it again and I was able to move it just a bit, before the sharp twang of pain overcame my body again and I yelped loudly.
"It's sprained, you didn't break it. Bear with me, this will hurt just a little bit." He said as he grabbed my foot.
"Wait! Wha-Yeow!! Ow!!! Ahh...ah. Tss, it-it doesn't hurt so bad."
"So you misplaced it a little bit, too."
"It doesn't hurt as much, but it's still throbbing."
"Be thankful that it is, otherwise you wouldn't be able to play. It's just misplaced, I snapped it back together. It's not fractured, thankfully. You took quite a fall for it just being a couple of feet off the ground." He added jokingly.
"I know they say laughter is the best medicine, but you're pushing it a tad." I winced.
"Sorry." He said sincerely. "We should get you home."
"Uh, n-no, thats fine...no one's home right now. Besides, it's a beautiful sunset." I said, trying to avoid the subject of 'home.' Especially to someone who doesn't know me as much as he'd like.
"Sorry, end of discussion. Where do you live?" He said as he lifted me and started walking to the parking lot.
"You don't have to, just leave me at the nurse's office."
"It's closed, retard." He growled a bit. This made me scowl in anger and I shoved him. "What are you doing?!" He barked at me.
"I'd rather limp home than let you drive me." I barked back bitterly. I was able to get out of his grip and stood on my un-injured foot. He was speechless and as I limped away, he grabbed me from behind and started walking again. "What are you doing?!" I said angrily as we got into his car. He slammed the door and this stunned me a little. He walked around to the drivers side and slammed his door too. We just sat there and the tension in the air was awkward, angry, bitter.
"Where do you live?" He asked calmly. His eyes were closed and he was taking deep breaths. I was twiddling my fingers in an meditation technique I learned to distract me from anger.
"Bishop and Grand." I said calmly as well. He turned over his engine and we started heading for my house. I lowered my window to let the air cool down my hot face. He did the same. He played some the radio and the song "Count On Me" by Bruno Mars was playing. I was humming along to the song and he looked at me and focused on the road again.
"I'm not trying to be rude, and I can't explain it, but I get really bugged when people just look at me and don't say anything." I blurted out. I was too angry to care what he'd say or how he'd react.
"I just can't believe it, is all." He muttered in an angry response.
"What?" I asked a minute later. After that, there was that silence again that he loved to do. "Pull over right here." I pointed out, parking in front of my house. As expected, my moms car wasn't home and nor was my sisters. We sat there for a second and then I openend the door. "Thanks for the ride."
"Could I come in and walk you in, at least?" He asked begrudgingly.
"...I guess." I hopped out of the car and limped to the house. He picked me up again and I just sighed and let it happen. I jumped off at the door and unlocked the door. I walked in and he entered behind me. He looked around and sat on the couch in the living room.
"Nice place." He said.
"Thanks. I say it's mine, since my mom is never home and sis is always with her boyfriend."
"What about dad?" He asked curiously.
"He isn't around. He left last year."
"Sorry."
"No need. Do you want anything?"
"Just sit down and I'll get you some ice. I could serve myself."
"Ugh...kitchen's on the left." I pointed to him. I limped to the couch and sat down. He walked over to the kitchen and rummaged through the fridge to get some ice. I saw him plop out a pepsi and a water. After that, he started taking out bread, mayo, mustard, lettuce, the basic sandwich essentials. 'Wow, I guess he felt pretty at home quickly.' I thought as my eyes rolled over in annoyance.
"Where's the restroom?" He shouted across the kitchen.
"On the right." I shouted back in response. He went and got a towel and then he came out with two plates of sanwiches, a towel full of ice and the drinks.
"Here." He said. He said down and placed the towel on my sprained ankle and I winced in relief.
"That feels so good." I murred. He handed me the plate of sandwich and the drink and I stared at him. Thanks." I murmured. He looked at me, then my ankle and just nodded. I ate my sandwich and we just sat there, not a whisper, just the two of us eating. He finished and just watched as I ate mine. "You want the rest of it? I'm not really hungry anymore." I offered as he grabbed the plate.
"Was it my staring or the fall?" He asked with mouth stuffed.
"A bit of both." I said. My phone rang and Omar was calling. I just sighed and put it on silent.
"You gonna answer?" Asked Damian.
"No, it's just a friend." I replied, bothered by the fact that Omar would be calling at this time. Omar got in the habit of calling me every day and asking me how my day was and then evaluating me on my playing. Now, he's probably calling to just ask how my day is.
"You should, I won't mind." He said as he finished off with a burp.
"You're gross." I chuckled and grabbed my phone. I answered and the sound of soft music played in the background. "Hey." I answered cheerfully.
"How's your ankle?" Asked Omar. I was stunned and shocked that he knew. I was mortified and wondered how the hell we was aware.
"H-how'd you know?!" I asked, almost screaming into the phone. Damian seemed surprised.
"I went over to see how your first day was gonna be. I didn't wanna get you nervous, so I just watched on the sidelines. Don't think I'm stalking you, I just wanted to see how my prodigy was doing at his new school." He said in a caring tone.
"You do realize that THAT is very creepy?" I asked in a very serious tone. Still, I was happy he was trying to keep in contact and that showed that he did care.
"I didn't until now...Haha, I'm really sorry. You know I care about cha, you're like my little brother." He said graciously. I couldn't help but blush and feel more warm. All this while, I had totally forgot that Damian was right here and he could hear everything. I looked at him and he was looking at me intently. He was grinning and I just shifted my eyes away. "Who was the guy?"
"Oh, his name's Damian. I met him today."
"Cool. He in baseball, too?"
"According to him, not in school. An outside league."
"He seemed familiar. Did he ever play baseball at all?" I turned to Damian and he nodded his head.
"I was in varsity freshman year." He said.
"What the, is he there with you?!" Omar said shocked. I couldn't help but groan.
"Y-yeah, he gave me a ride, I was limping."
"Oh, I see..Well, tell him I said thanks for taking care of you." He said bitterly. "But next time you need anything, call me instead." He said it loudly and clearly, I suppose intentionally. Damian couldn't help but snicker and roll his eyes.
"I will. Hey, I'll call you back?"
"Sure." And with that, he hung up. He was really annoyed. Usually, we'd take half an hour to hang up, but he just hung up in a matter of seconds. I looked at my phone and sighed.
"I thought I was a jerk."
"Hey, Omar's not a jerk. He really cares about me. He was my mentor. Everything I learned came from his skills."
"So, you learned how to sprain your ankle and fall from a four foot bleacher? Hahaha." Boomed Damian. Every second, I ended up hating the way he acted. I could guess he was playing around, but still urked me. He could tell I was bothered. "I'm sorry, that's why I usually don't joke around; I always end up getting someone mad."
"It's fine." I said. "So, why did you wanna come in, anyways?" I asked in a curious manner.
"Well, I kind of wanted to talk to you."
"Look, I know you want me to do football, but I just don't care for that sport." I said as nice as possible.
"What? No, I wanted to get to know you." He said, surprised I had heard his conversation.
"Oh...um, well. Sorry." I apologized as I blushed. I rubbed my head and felt a bruise. I winced as I ran my paw through it and got a sharp pain. "Ouch." I winced as I kept touching it. He sat behind me and looked through my fur to find the bump. He ran his paw through the right spot and I winced again.
"Nasty bump." He said. He laid me down on his chest and started to massage my head. At first it was painful, but then I realized what was happening and it made me murr in pleasure. I felt his chest move up and down as he breathed and his arms caressed and hugged me while he massaged my head. He started to hum and I felt his hums boom through his chest onto my back. My eyes were getting heavier and heavier and I could make out some of his mumbles, but not all of them were clear, soon the world was black as my eyes shut and the humming seemed to fade. I was in a moment of total bliss..
