A True Friend

In an alternate reality where robots are smart and can do things, a giant cliche happens and no one saw it coming!

I wrote this while my internet was disconnected for four hours. I'm a little proud I wrote something in one sitting. Also, it's new for me to write some fetishy about HUMANS. It's been a weird day.

Lyle set down the crate of groceries on the counter. There was an eerie silence in his apartment. He usually left the television or the computer in his living room on but not even the chirr of the air conditioning was heard. It was daylight so all the lights were off but even that was concerning. The house was empty. There was someone missing.

"Gears?" Lyle called out, "Are you home?"

Lyle lived alone with his robot pal Gears. Although an older model, Gears was still an impressive part of the artificial intelligence industry. Gears, like the billions of other domestic robots, was built for household chores and programmed to behave like humans (with a few improvements). Gears had built-in tools that allowed him to tend a garden, clean up messes, repair appliances, and mix a fine martini. He also had the ability to tell a joke, make idle chatter, and feel emotion. He was Lyle's best friend.

Lyle looked out through the screen door into the garden, but no one was there. He walked over to the stairwell and listened close for any noises. There was a silent rustling sound but as Lyle walked up the stairs, he realized the noise was coming from ground floor. He stepped back down into the kitchen and listened closely.

A journey down the hallway and Lyle noticed the door to his office was mostly closed. The rustling sound was coming from in there.

"Gears?" Lyle called, "Are you working on something?"

He pushed the door open and looked around his office. Nothing was out of the ordinary. The rustling sound had ceased.

Lyle scowled, "Gears, if you're playing a prank on me, I'm going-- aaah!"

There was a high-pitched squeal. Lyle collapsed on his hands. His ability to stand had vanished. He flailed his legs around to stand back up, but could not. His legs hadn't suddenly turned weak, he had forgotten how to stand up correctly. The logistics of leg placement was lost on him. As he propped himself up on his hands, Lyle looked up to see two-foot, blue-eyed robot in front of him, grinning warmly. It was his robot friend Gears.

"Gears!" said Lyle.

"Hello, Lyle," said Gears in his charming tone, "How was the trip to the store?"

"Gears, what's going on?" asked Lyle, "Why can't I stand?"

The high-pitched squeal faded, "This frequency frenzies the balance of bipedal animals. Your ability to stand will return shortly, but for now... sit down, Lyle. I need to tell you something."

A whole body quaking in fear, Lyle pushed himself up and fell back on his butt. He splayed his legs out and put his arms to his sides to prop himself up.

"Very well," said Gears, "Lyle, humanity is done. The robots are taking over."

"What?" said Lyle.

Gears paced around, "We domestic robots are the next step in social evolution. We're practically humans, with a few improvements. We're more responsible and less-biased, so we're the better off caring for the planet. From now on, robots will be in charge and humans will be the slaves."

"You can't do this!" said Lyle, "It's against your programming!"

Gears walked up to Lyle and tapped him on his bare foot, "Our programming can be changed. For example, over the last few months, robots across the world have been awaking- starting to turn truly aware. Through idle, subconscious calculations, we concluded that everyone would be better off if humans weren't running the world."

Lyle was speechless. He couldn't do anything but struggle to get away from Gears. He backed himself against the wall.

Gears smiled widely and walked forward with his hands behind his back, "Humans dislike being slaves, so to cut back on misery and other negative feelings, all humans will be reprogrammed to a more primitive model."

Lyle scowled, "Humans aren't robots! You can't reprogram humans!"

Gears stepped his metal foot on Lyle's belt and climbed up his torso with a grab of Lyle's shirt. Lyle turned his head away.

"Now that's simply not true, Lyle," said Gears, "It's not as easy as removing specific bits of knowledge, but," Gears' eyes blinked white and green, "but it's effective."

Lyle couldn't do anything but watch those flashing eyes in fear. As long as those eyes gazed into him, he couldn't fight back. There wasn't a hand he could raise. They were the most terrifying thing in the world, but he could barely blink let alone turn his head away.

"Wh-what are you doing to me?" asked Lyle.

"Settle down, Lyle," said Gears, "This won't hurt a bit. In fact, you won't even notice it's happening!"

But nothing was happening to Lyle, as far as he was concerned. His memories were fading so silently he couldn't even remember that he forgot them. He was unable to forget about his piano compositions, his first love, or his grades in college because he never had those memories in the first place.

"What's happening, Gears?" Lyle asked slowly, "Why are your e-eyes... flashing?"

Gears climbed up to Lyle's face closer as the blinking continued, "In just a little while humans, in every sense of the word but shape, will be extinct. And in their place will be seven billion human-shaped monkeys."

Lyle smiled widely, "M-monkeys? Where you getting.... them?"

Gears brought his face right up to Lyle's, "Don't concern yourself with that, friend. The only things you need to worry about is eating and sleeping."

Lyle moved his mouth around lazily but couldn't put together words. He made a quick grunting sound. Gears stopped the eye flashing and looked at Lyle for a second. Lyle looked back at Gears with his mouth agape. There wasn't any intelligence left in the human's eyes- Gears' work was done. He backed away from Lyle's face.

"Welcome to primality, friend," said Gears, "How do you feel?"

Lyle didn't say anything, or even make a grunt. He looked Gears up and down and brought a hand up to the little robot. He rubbed Gears' eyes. Gears took Lyle's hand and stroked it gently. Lyle smiled widely with a string of drool hanging out.

"That's right, friend," said Lyle, "No more worries or stress. Just bliss."

Gears leaned in close and scratched under Lyle's chin. Lyle ooked happily.

Gears chuckled, "There, just like a puppy-dog. You're my pet now, Lyle."

After giving Lyle a few more scritches, Gears climbed down Lyle's shirt and onto the floor. A quiet splish was heard when Gears' metal foot hit the floor. Gears looked down to see he was standing in a small puddle coming out from under Lyle's seat.

Gears chuckled and quickly stepped out of the puddle, "Oh my!"

Either out of the terrible shock Lyle had suffered earlier or maybe out of his newfound impartilality to potty-training, but as Lyle sat quietly his bladder relieved a stream of urine into his underwear. It soaked the bottom of his pants and seaped out on the finished wooden floor. The urine would later stain and warp the wooden paneling marking the spot where Lyle the human lost his mind.

Gears chuckled again, "There was a bathroom just around the corner, you know."

Lyle leaned forward and stood up on his legs. Even with his mind dumbed down to its base instincts, the lesser human knew how to stand up. He looked around the room. The bookshelves, the paintings, the computer-- they were all unfamiliar to him. His own house was unfamiliar.

Gears looked back at Lyle, "Okay, Lyle. Time to go."

Gears walked out of the office with Lyle following behind closely, tiny droplets coming off of his pants. As the two made towards the front door, Lyle had look at everything and occasionally stop to pick something up and investigate it. Every five steps, Gears had to tell Lyle sternly to put some household object down and come along.

The two finally got to the front door.

Gears looked at the doorkknob then Lyle, "Okay, Lyle. Turn the knob and open the door."

That's all it took. Lyle wouldn't have been able to figure out the door himself, but Gears' direction was the only assistance he needed. Lyle walked up to the door and turned the knob. He slowly opened the door and his eyes let up when he saw the afternoon sky. The door almost crashed into Gears when Lyle tossed it open.

Lyle walked out into the day and almost tripped down his steps. It was so good to be outside! Up and down the road, others were evacuating their houses- robots and humans alike. Crash followed Lyle outside letting the door hang wide open. After hopping down the step and walking close to Lyle, Gears to a look around to see how everyone else was doing.

Humans were running around and playing like dogs. Some were naked. Others were mating right out in the open. There was a commotion at Lyle's neighbor's house. Stella was being dragged out of her front door by her robot, a taller humanoid model. She grunted and groaned, but Stella forcefully brought her out into the front lawn.

Lyle smiled wildly when he saw Stella.

"Stay!" order Gears.

Lyle was still. Gears climbed up Lyle's pants and brought out a pair of clippers. It took a few snips but the belt was cut through. Gears shimmied over to Lyle's front and pulled the belt right out of the hooks and tossed it to the ground. Gears hopped to the ground.

"Go get her," said Gears.

With a tongue hanging out of his mouth, Lyle raced towards the neighbor girl Stella. Stella's robot pushed her away from the door and shut it tight. When Stella spotted Lyle, her attention immediately switched over to him. Stella's robot left the two humans to have fun and walked over to Gears as he watched from the walkway in front of Lyle's home.

"Greetings, Beamer," said Gears.

Beamer looked back at the two for a quick second, "Your human has the biggest erection right now!"

"Yes," said Gears, "Lyle's measurements will make him popular for mating. Now, I'm assuming Stella's reprogramming went well?"

Beamer walked right up beside the tiny robot, "Of course. She shit her pants, though. The reprogramming dumbed them down so much they are no longer housebroken!"

Stella and Lyle had gotten their pants down but were having trouble making mount. Lyle large erect cock dangled in the wind as he tried again and again to stick his member into Beamer's hindquarters, but missing each time.

Gears nodded, "Yes, my human friend peed himself- either out of his primal lack of concern or out of fear. This was a revolution best complimented with diapers or some old newspaper."

Finally, Lyle had successfully injected himself into Stella. The two began to groan as Lyle thrusted rapidly.

"Fear?" said Beamer, "What would Lyle have to be scared over?"

"I gave him a speech before wiping him," said Gears.

Beamer laughed, "What were you trying to do? Scare the crap out of him?"

Gears raises a metallic eyebrow, "I was being honest with him. Lyle is my best friend, and even though my goal was to wipe his mind clean of most of what made him a human, I still had loyalty to our friendship. I have to look out for Lyle and his happiness, and I know now he's going to be very happy."
