She was in shock almost, nearly as he had found her the day before after the rape, unmoving, staring straight ahead. He sighed and gently helped her remove the hoodie, then he took one foot, then the other, and removed her shoes and socks. He didn't want to frighten her, so he didn't dare remove her other clothing without her permission. He got up then and turned down the covers. "Come on, Tish... Lay down..." He stripped off his shirt while he waited for her to move.
His words seemed like a trigger to her and she jumped from the bed, going to her backpack, rummaging through it to pull out that silly pink unicorn and the picture of her family. Right now, it was all she had left of them, and she wanted as much comfort as she could get.
While Marco finished getting the bed ready for them, she unzipped and unbuckled her chaps, letting them fall to the floor, leaving her in her jeans and long sleeved shirt. She knew both would bother her in the bed, so she pulled at the buttons of her shirt, letting the fabric hang open on her as she moved to unfasten her pants.
She set the picture on the bedside table then looked at Marco, her mind again nearly shutting down from the enormity of what had happened. She literally was starting to look like a robot that kept having its battery pulled - going and stopping and going and stopping.
Marco was standing on the other side of the bed, watching her as she got up to grab her unicorn and the picture of her family. His eyes tracked her back and forth, following her, and showing the pain he felt inside at having to watch her go through this. He stepped around the bed when she had unbuttoned her shirt and unfastened her pants. She was clearly not going to be finish the job on her own. He waited for her to put the picture down, then he sat on the bed in front of her and reached up to gently push her shirt back, and off her shoulders.
His furry fingers brushed against her skin as he pushed the shirt down her arms, taking her unicorn long enough that he could get the shirt off of one arm, then handed it back and finished taking her shirt off. Her tits were covered by a bra, but other than that he had a good view. She was more beautiful than he thought, but he had to push those thoughts away. His fingers moved next to the waistband of her jeans, and he eased them down and off of her ass, trying not to touch her as he pushed them down her legs. Once they were on the floor as well, he put his hands on her waist and guided her to the side of the bed, sitting her on the sheets. He stood and unbuckled and removed his own pants, being clad only in his boxers when he was finished, and then he climbed into the bed on the other side. She didn't move, so he smiled softly and reached up to gently ease her back into the bed.
Tisha knew that he wasn't going to hurt her, despite her unfortunate incident with the thugs yesterday. Laying back on the bed, she barely moved on her own as he pulled the sheets up over them, before gently pulling her closer to him, letting her cuddle against his side. Her body curled up against his as she trembled and shuddered, tears falling from her eyes again as her loss once more hit her.
Between one moment and the next, her mind and body shut down again, only a slight rise of her chest any indication that she was alive as the emotions racing through her took their toll on her body. Not even a 'Good night' slipped from her as she fell asleep against his chest, his fur soaked with more tears.
He had no idea what he would do if she were like this in the morning. Not that he would be helpless, certainly, but he wanted her to be well. She would have to snap out of this. He lay there, on his back, with her against his side, sobbing into his fur. At last he felt her breathing slow and she seemed to be sleeping, a consolation at the least. His own eyes closed moments later and slept as well.
Again, Tisha tossed and turned through the night, often crying out "Stop!" or whimpering for her parents.
Day 3 After Power Outage
The moment the pre-dawn morning rolled around, and her eyes snapped open, she was back to the normal self she'd shown Marco over the last couple days. Steadfast and determined to survive. Now that they'd made it to the cabin, she had a couple new goals in mind: Keeping them alive and finding her brothers.
Between her and Marco, her poor unicorn had been squashed all night, since Tisha hadn't wanted to let go of it, even in her sleep. Moving slightly, the young human woman fluffed her unicorn and set it on her pillow, then rose from the bed, and quickly dressed herself for the day. She needed to see what still needed to be done around the house, though she was pretty certain that her mother's people had done everything to get it ready for them. Though they were most likely expecting the whole family, not just Tisha and a stranger.
Marco woke shortly after she did, when she was in the middle of dressing. Her back was turned to him though, and presented him with her skin and the back of her bra and her hair swishing about as she moved. He climbed out of bed, padding across the floor, feeling like giving her a hug. It may have even been a romantic gesture, but he was feeling attached to her, and even an anthro canines have the instinct to cuddle. He slipped his arms around her waist before she finished with her shirt and he licked her neck, "Morning..."
Tisha jumped as she felt his tongue against her neck, then relaxed against him. "You startled me, Marco," she said, a soft smile on her lips. "I didn't mean to wake you." The smile turned to a mischievous grin. "But since you're up, you can help me by going through the rooms with me and seeing what needs to be done. I think my mother's people took care of everything, but I want to make sure. Then we can get breakfast and see what we have stocked up and what needs planting and what needs hunting and gathering and all that good stuff."
He chuckled softly, nuzzling against her a bit more as they stood there. His hands were under the shirt she had managed to wiggle into, resting on her stomach. He let out a soft growl and whispered, "It's ok, I don't mind being up. I was anticipating you sleeping in." He chuckled again and nosed about her skin for a moment more, before letting her go, "Let's check the house then...but first I'll get dressed." He laughed, walking over to scrounge up his pants and shirt from the day before, figuring they had about a day of use left before they would seriously need washing. "I know it's summer, but it is chilly up here...or is it warmer in the valley than outside of it?"
She giggled at that low growl, signaling a return of her softer, more innocent side, at least around him. "We're in the foothills of a mountain range, so it tends to get a little colder here than back in the city. And we don't have big buildings to block the wind and trap the heat. My mother's people are used to it, and tend to wear few clothes in the summer that trap heat, but in the winter, they're bulked up, since winters here can be harsh."
She grinned at him, hoping her mother's people left what would definitely be needed for a long stay. "After the first week, you get used to the temperature change and will love the watering hole I found. I'll warn you about it now, when I go there, I strip down to just my bra and panties before jumping in. And you have to jump in to get in the water. It's not the same just forging into the water."
He nodded, laughing, as he pulled his pants up, "I saw you dressed like that last night, believe me, you won't shock me Tisha." He winked at her and buckled his pants, then slipped his shirt on, "I'll look forward to seeing the watering hole with you, sounds like a fun place to go." He had put their crossbows down by the door when they came in the night before. He figured they wouldn't need them in the house, but he did fish out a pair of hunting knives just in case, "Here, better take this."
She took the knife and strapped it to her waist and tied the sheath to her thigh, making sure she could get it if she needed to. Both lamps were well stocked with oil and the flame on them had been lowered before they went to bed, but she picked up one of them to shut the wick down to conserve the oil they had in it. They could take the other one with them as they checked the house.
She pulled her jeans on, then her socks and boots, but grabbed her chaps in hand, knowing that she wanted to have them downstairs if they decided to go riding. Looking at the bags, she gave a sigh, then said, "Let's take the bags with the food and cooking supplies down, so we can figure out what we have and what we still need. Of course, between now and when we get downstairs to check, we'll check on the rooms up here."
He gave a quick nod and lifted one of the bags over his shoulder. He had his own knife within easy reach on his hip, then he led the way to the door, pulling it open and stepping out into the hallway. It was still early and so the light level was fairly low in the house, though it was brightened by the lamp she carried. "Let's check the last room first, make our way down and then head downstairs. I'm hungry." he chuckled and shook his head, turning toward the far end of the house.
She headed towards the far end of the hallway, opening the doors and walking into the rooms and checking things out in them. Each room was clean and fresh sheets were on the beds, the scents of sage, sweetgrass and red cedar permeating the rooms as they opened the doors. "Let's leave the doors open. I love the scents used for cleaning that the Lakota use." Even the bathroom was stocked up, though nothing worked in it since the blackout.
He followed her down the hall, though for the most part he stayed out of the rooms, letting her look them over and check for whatever was supposed to be with them. He too enjoyed the scents, and told her so, before they moved on. Once they finished their tour of the top floor, the headed for the stairs and walked down, "So, what's the first order of business now? Hunting? Fishing? Planting....something like that?"
"Making breakfast and taking stock of the food stores here. Then we see if we have any seeds here or if we need to procure them from the stores in town. But we'll probably need to get some kind of animals to raise for meat here at some point. Until we know if any others are going to be here, I don't want to bring in herd animals for meat and breeding for future meat," she said, giving him a grin. "Maybe some chickens so we can have fresh eggs, and a milk cow or two before the full herd animals."
In short, life was going to be harder than ever now that the power was down. He knew they would survive though, they had the skills that they both needed to be able to do just that, and they had a home such as the one they were at now, to life in. He nodded, "Alright, sounds like a good enough plan to me." He headed down the stairs ahead of her, stepping onto the lower floor once again, though this time he was able to get a better look at their surroundings and found that it wasn't quite so ominous. He moved into the kitchen and set down the bag of food.
A small basket sat by the front door, filled with some small packets. The kitchen, on the other hand, had a large wood burning stove and enough burners to cook a full meal. "I need water for coffee and to wash the dishes after breakfast, and we need to make sure the horses have water. Can you get that? You'll find a small creek to get water from on the other side of the barn. I'll get breakfast started, and the horses can get let out to the corral to graze." She sat on the counter and opened the cabinets, pulling out dishes and rummaging through the food stores in the house already.
Marco nodded, "Right, sing out if you need me." He walked out of the kitchen and to the front of the house, pulling open the stout wooden door and stepping out onto the porch. He paused at the top of the stairs, stretching and giving a last yawn as he gazed at the valley around the home. He could clearly see why they had chosen this spot to make a plantation home such as this. Nodding after a moment, he stepped down from the porch and made his way along a path toward the barn, walking around the outside of the paddock to the small door and walking in.
He said good morning to all the horses, and then walked down the line making sure they had water in their buckets, before he went, one by one, and let them out into the corral near the barn. Once they were running free, he went back to the house to grab a bucket off of the porch, and went in search of the creek she had mentioned. He found it right where she said it would be, and filled a bucket with water, then carried it back to the house. As he did so, the sun came up over the lip of the valley and bathed the entire place in warm golden light. He smiled and then walked back in through the kitchen door. "Here you go. Damn that sunrise is beautiful."
Tisha looked out through the window as the sun came up, her eyes enjoying the sight as he came in. "I've always loved sunrise and sunset up here. Sometimes I wish I was artistic and could paint the view of the sun as it rose or set. But if we're going to be living here for awhile, I guess I'll just have to get used to actually watching them every day," she giggled again, before leaning over the sink to plug up both sides and put some water into both sides before pouring the rest into the coffee pot.
Putting the coffee ground into the pot, she set it over the stove, adding some wood to the small embers of the fire, letting it flare back up again, then looked at the items on the counter. "Well, we got canned meats and canned vegetables and canned fruits. And the jerky. I can use some of the vegetables for another stew tonight, but we need more food stock, and chickens for eggs for a good breakfast. Oh! Can you grab that small basket by the front door? I saw some seed packets in it, and I want to see what kind of seeds are in it."
He nodded to her, smiling, "Sure." he walked over to the front door and picked up the basket she had mentioned, bringing it back and setting it down, "So where do we get the chickens, down in town?" he asked, as he began to look through the seeds, "And how much food is there in the woods around. I know rabbits and such, but I mean deer and other wildlife." He took some of the packets out and laid them on the table, "Corn, beans, peas, carrots..."
Tisha looked over the seeds as he pulled them out, then jumped. "WATERMELON! Oh, my god! I love watermelon! And pumpkins! Apple seeds, and greens and..." She collapsed into a seat next to him, her obvious enjoyment of the seeds transmitting through her body as she squirmed and wiggled. "We have to plant these as soon as possible! And get more seeds from the stores."
Thinking hard, she shook her head. "The Lakota would know what is available better than I do, but yes, there are plenty of rabbits and squirrels and other small animals as well as deer. In years past, there were buffalo, but there aren't anywhere near as many now, so those aren't good to try to hunt. Especially if it's not with the Lakota's blessing. They use every part of the animal, letting nothing go to waste, and that is something that we would need to learn."
She pointed to the canned food and the leftover rabbit jerky, saying, "Pick what you want for breakfast, then let's set up an area for the planting. We can go through the other stuff that I want to show you afterwards."
Her explosion about the watermelon and pumpkins had him laughing and shaking his head. He kept chuckling, even as he listened to everything she had to say in regard to the seeds, then the subject of the wildlife in the area. "Do you think members of the tribe will return when they find out there has been trouble? To help? We could turn this place into a compound and the main base for the tribe so that we'll be protected and able to survive. They would be able to teach us all their ways and I can't imagine we would have much trouble."
He moved over to the pile of canned food she had out, and browsed through the labels. It took him a moment to think about what he would want, since none of it was what he would normally look for in a breakfast, but then he chose a can of mixed vegetables.
Tisha grinned as he chose a can, giggling again as she saw what it was. She got up and pulled out a can of spam, knowing the meat would make a great breakfast meat, though she had no clue how it would do with mixed vegetables. There were two small cans of mixed fruits, so she dished them into bowls and sliced up the meat to fry it over the fire.
"Can you pour the coffee for both of us, Marco?" she asked while trying to figure out how to mix the vegetables into the ingredients for breakfast. Giving a low sigh, she pulled out the small cooking pot, she heated it in the pot and put a serving on both of their plates as well as half of the meat. "Breakfast is ready."
He got two cups out of a cabinet and proceeded to fill both with coffee. Once they were full, he sat it back on the stove, and then slipped into his chair at the table. Smiling as she sat the plate down, he chuckled, "Strangest breakfast I ever had, but oh well, we'll make the best of it. Coffee...vegetables and spam..." He laughed and picked up his fork.
"Don't forget the fruit," she giggled, sitting down next to him, her leg pressed against his as if she needed the contact to keep her on track, and maybe she did. But for right now, she knew they both needed to eat and get food stored up in the house. So for the moment, it meant that they needed to plant the seeds and hunt some meat down. "After we get the garden planted, I'll take you to ride the Lakota way. As I said the other day, Brute doesn't trust you the way he needs to yet. And he will only trust you that way after you trust him not to throw you by riding him bareback."
Marco scooped up a bite and chewed, nodding and licking his lips, "Alright, I remember...I certainly don't want to get thrown, and I think it will be good to learn to ride that way." He smiled at her and took another bite, "Do you guys have a garden set up that we need to get ready? Or do we just need to pick a spot to start working?" He noted how she sat close to him, her legs next to his. He smiled at her softly, feeling that if he could help her even with something so simple as that, then it was worth it.
Tisha nodded, chewing her own bite of food. "We had one, but it probably needs tending so we can plant the seeds, and we need to mark the seeds where they're going. And when we get some more seeds from town, I want to get some herb seeds for cooking. We'll get tired of bland food after the seasonings we have now run out." Her stomach rumbled, letting her know that talking could wait, but it wanted food and it wanted the food NOW.
He chuckled at her words and nodded, "I just was asking to see if we would have to break new ground or if we could just tend the old stuff." He smiled and then picked up another bite and chewed it down. They ate in silence, chewing the only sound in the room as they ate. It was good really, though strange for breakfast. He liked it though, and he was hungry from the day before so he cleaned his plate easily.
Tisha cleared her plate as well, then poured both of them another cup of coffee, so they would be ready to handle the day's events. She carried the dishes to the sink, setting them in and washing them quickly in the cold water, knowing that later, they would need enough water brought in for washing dishes in hot water and also to wash themselves and their clothes, though their clothes could wait until later in the week, since they had enough to last.
After washing and rinsing the dishes, she set them in a drainer for the time being while she went to find the tools to tend the garden enough to plant the seeds, calling over her shoulder, "Marco, can you dry those dishes? I need to find the hand trowels and spades for the garden."
"Sure..." he said with a smile as she headed out of the room. He shook his head, picking up a towel that was folded on the counter and proceeding to dry each dish, one at a time, before stacking it and then putting it away. He lived alone in the city, so he was no stranger to kitchen work. When he was finished, he headed out of the kitchen and into the back yard, heading for a tool shed that he had seen.
The door was open, so he walked up to it and knocked so that he wouldn't startle her, "Dishes are dry and put away. Let me help you get this stuff..."
Tisha smiled over her shoulder, already having a large hat on her head, blocking the sun from her delicate skin. She plopped another over his head, giggling at the sight of him with a gardening hat on, then nuzzled into his neck. "You look so cute with that hat on, Marco!"
She was still laughing as she turned to find the rest of the tools, even pulling out a couple bags of soil to mix with the existing soil if they needed to after getting the weeds pulled. A small wagon sat waiting for the weeds, with the trowels and spades and aerators sitting in it, while a second one sat with the soil. She also had two short stools and a pair of knee pads and a two foot piece of foam for kneeling on. "I got everything together, but if you get the wagon with the soil, I'll get the other wagon, and we'll get the garden tended to."
Marco laughed about how he must look in the hat, but even if he was surprised, the nuzzle she gave him against his skin more than made up for it. He smiled down at her and then adjusted the wide-brimmed hat, then nodded, "Right."
