Spyro and the Sun God: Chapter 6

Spyro and Sparx ventured into the depths of the technological city, trying to look for any evidence that Red had been there.

"That's odd...why would the professor entrust Moneybags, of all people, with the key to his lab?" Spyro questioned as the two walked down an empty street.

"Heck if I know. You can never tell what that crazy old windbag is gonna do next." Sparx answered as the two came up to a large glowing wall, colored with swirls of all the colors of the spectrum. "What the heck is this thing?"

"I don't know...I didn't see it last time I was here." Spyro approached the glowing colors, and pressed his claw to it, getting a small shock, making him yelp slightly and jump back a couple inches. "Well, must be some sort of shield..."

"Well yeah, I kinda suspected that." Sparx flew up to the shield, looking at all the mixed colors, almost hypnotized by the swirling pigments. Spyro meanwhile, backed up a few feet, and lowered his head, before charging at the shield, ramming head-first into it. "Whoa whoa what're you doing Spyro??" Sparx asked, startled at the sudden crash from below, seeing Spyro back up again and charge at it. "Uhh...Spyro, I don't think that's gonna break it..."

"I can still try, can't I?" Spyro retorted, ramming into the shield once more, but still nothing.

"Maybe after smashing your head against it, you've gotten the idea it's...I dunno...INDESTRUCTABLE?" Sparx sighed, bringing his palm to his forehead. "Jeez."

"Okay, fine... Always the soft one with critiques huh?" Spyro stood back up again, glaring at Sparx. "What do you suggest we should do then, oh clever one?"

"I say we just forget all about this, and leave while we can." Sparx answered, coming back down to Spyro.

"Figures." Spyro gave a soft chuckle. "Come on, let's keep search-" the dragon began, but was cut off by a loudspeaker near the shield.

"Attention patron, please approach the guard station to enter the laboratory." It said, before turning off again.

"Guard station? That's not too far away, if my memory serves me right... C'mon." Spyro took off down the street again, Sparx sighing and following him. They walked for a few minutes, before reaching a building, a sign hanging above the door that read "GUARD STATION". Upon entering, they saw the robot at the window, but it was turned off, not moving at all, and no lights lit. "Maan...this place gives me the creeps..." Sparx shivered slightly, looking around at all the inactive robots.

"Well we'll only be in here a little longer." Spyro replied, keeping his eyes out for anything suspicious, walking up to the door, where a single robot was active at the exit.

"Confirm Identity." It said in a monotone voice, a device that looked like fingerprint scanner coming out in front of the two. Spyro reached up and placed his left claw on it, the device scanning it.

"Incorrect. Initiating voice test." It continued, a microphone extending out from the side of the booth.

"Here Spyro lemme try this time." Sparx moved forward in front of the mic, and cleared his voice. "Uhh...This is Red!" he said in his best Red impression, which wasn't very good at all. "Let me in, you stupid robot!"

"Analyzing...incorrect voice. Initiating Lockdown." The robot added, two large metal doors slamming down over the entrance and exit, the alarm going off, red lights flashing everywhere.

"Now you've done it, Sparx!" Spyro growled, glaring up at the dragonfly. "What?? Let's see YOU do better!" Sparx replied, poking Spyro's snout.

Spyro grunted, bracing himself to whatever was to come. Above him on the ceiling, two panels shifted to reveal a pair of armed turrets. Both were programmed to exterminate any unidentified intruder within their perimeter. Spyro took a step back, using only one of his front paws to support himself, as he readied himself to move elsewhere to safety. "Target scan complete. Begin intruder-purge program!" the computer rang, before both turrets pointed at Spyro and clicked.

"FIRE IN DA HOLE!" Sparx yelled, hurrying to a crack on the wall next to them. Spyro strode left, using his wings to leap away faster. However, no bullet or any harmful object had come his way.

"What?" Spyro asked to no one in particular as he glanced over the turrets, they seemed to be shooting, but nothing was coming out. "That's weird... I don't feel a thing, or... anything else for the matter..." he said, loosing himself off his tension.

Sparx popped his head out of his hiding place, seeing the turret cannons to spit nothing but smoldering dust, "Well that's what I'd call a bad maintenance, what kind of idiot puts guards without ammo these da," the alarm went off again, "GOD SAVE ME!" he hid again, teeth clattering could be heard, echoing from the small crack on the wall. Spyro looked around, the area he had been trapped in was flashing, alternating between a dark red and blue alarm-light. He stared at the speakers angrily as he heard the computer once again. "Anti-Intruder Program has been interrupted as per violation of security protocols. Security of Block D will be automatically deactivated by the nearest terminal with the Restriction Order by the number of 00197: Lack of ammunition for Defense-System. Please contact the Guard Droid in charge of the Terminal 002 to re-establish the security protocols. Further information can be found on," the speech stopped suddenly. The speakers fell to the floor burning down to ashes.

Spyro's maw was crackling with fire crisps as he walked towards one of the doors and saw what he was looking for. "Thank you" he said as he passed by the melting speakers. There was a rather big handle on the right corner next to the security doors. He jumped up and came down with a powerful head-bash, slamming it down and deactivating the trap he was in. The turrets had already disappeared into their respective camouflage panels. Turning his head around to look at the crack Sparx was hiding in, Spyro softly said, "Hey smart stuff. We're leaving. Or you wanna wait till they reload those things?" Sparx suddenly appeared in front of Spyro. "AYE CAP'N! READY TO SET AWAAAAAAAAAAAY FROM HERE!" Sparx said, his hand held in front of his forehead firmly like a soldier in duty. Spyro shook his head at his friend's antics and just walked away into an open alley, it seemed as if all the terminals were sectioned in different blocks. 001 and 003 were next to him. But he did not see the one he was looking for.

"002..." Spyro mumbled.

"What? Lottery time?"

Spyro snarled "Cut it Sparx, I'm trying to think."

"Oh, well there's always a fine time for a first" the dragonfly said, flying away from Spyro as he floated high up. "Well this is interesting!"

"Hey! Told you I'm trying to,"

"Here brainiac" Sparx was hovering with his arms folded above a big title which said: "Welcome to Terminal 002" in glowing golden letters and numbers.

"Think."

"See?" Sparx came flying down in front of Spyro, "I should start my own Detective Business" he raised his arms while looking wide-eyed in front of him, almost as if by contemplating a future image of a building title. "Sparx the Dragonfly. Love how it sounds, don't ya?" "Okay okay, fine. Thanks alright?" Spyro chuckled at Sparx, "Liked you more when you were shaking in that crack."

"For your information!" Sparx put himself in front of Spyro's face, a cunning look on his face, "I was providing you with backup fire! It's a common tactic for fighters of such degree as,"

"DRAGON!" a roar was heard, Sparx stopped in mid-sentence and hid behind Spyro's head. The young purple dragon glared forwards. He didn't see anything, until he got struck in his left cheek hard.

"Oof!" Spyro grunted, stepping back a bit, "What was that?!"

"What-was-what?! WHO-WHERE?!" Sparx trembled, talking really fast.

"I could swear," the dragon got struck once again, this time on his right, "WAAH!" he growled from pain, Sparx turning slightly blue. "This... ugh..." he coughed a bit, trying to search the source of any of his taken damage. "Show yourselves!"

"Dragon... scales... talons... claws... Gems..." multiple, cybernetic-like voices vibrated along the air. Spyro caught notice of them.

"They... they sound like bandits..." Spyro said, hastily looking left and right, still a bit shaky from the hits. "Grr... they are getting me pissed." Sparx didn't like the sound of that, "I suppose this isn't the right time to worry about minimal things such as these but... don't go rough on them, okay?" he said, raising a hand suggestively.

"I know. I KNOW. But they are getting at me! I can't see them! If only I could light this place up,"

"HELLO! FIRE-BREATHING MOUTH!"

"I can't breathe fire and fight at the same time!"

Sparx reluctantly grinned "Good call," he said between his teeth, showing his appreciation for the situation they were on. Not long after though, Sparx could catch a glimpse of something approaching them, "SPYRO, ON YOUR RIGHT!"

"Huh?!" Spyro looked the way Sparx was pointing, a small translucent shade which appeared to posses a robotic shape alerted him and the dragon ducked, before using his horns to pierce through the figure. Sparks of electricity started cracking along the machine which soon revealed to be a droid. Its camouflaging ability disappearing with its power reactor. Spyro had bulls eyed the bandit, and when he was certain of it being totally harmless, he jumped and swirled his head around, throwing it away onto a wall, where it was crushed by the powerful impact. Spyro landed harmlessly on the floor and Sparx, dizzy from the head-swirl, hovered faintly in front of his friend. "That was... something new..."

"Wow, I think... I just learned a new move or something."

Sparx shook his head off his dizziness and spoke "Well that Horn Pierce made a nice kebab with that thing. Try it on the second one! I'll help you to find it!" he said, flying off, but circling around Spyro. The dragon kept his eyes peeled for any danger. Apparently the bandit hadn't run off. It was a droid after all, it was programmed to individually complete its mission before retreating, no matter the surrounding casualties of his own team. Sparx soon found the distortion the camouflage produced in the air around them and pointed for Spyro to notice. "He's coming! LEFT!"

Spyro ducked again, he growled and jumped up, the droid getting pierced by his strong dragon horns in the same way the first one had. Spyro twisted his head slightly and hurled the droid to the floor. Its damaged body exploded and disintegrated almost immediately.

"AAAAAAND THE WINNER IS,"

"Cut that out, Sparx. It was just luck."

"Aw, you're no fun. Well, at least you took care of them... What are we looking for, here, again?" "The Guard Droid I guess," said Spyro as he took a step forwards, leaving Sparx behind, "He should have what we need to go through the Restricted gate at the lab area. Gotta find him quick."

Teeth-clattering sound made Spyro sigh in disappointment. "Sparx,"

"Hey, it's not me this time!" Sparx said, and after thinking about it better, he added: "That didn't sound good for my fan-club. I hope this gets edited."

Spyro turned his look back to Sparx, it was true. But where did the sound come from then? The dragon looked around helplessly, but with curiosity. He delved into another alley around the terminal's building. Until finally he found, behind one of the trash containers, who he was looking for.

"And I thought you were a coward" Spyro said, his eyes fixing onto the shaking, small Droid next to the container. It was one of the old hovering models, but was dressed into a medical police outfit, with helmet included.

"Yeah!" Sparx said, approaching from behind, "Wait. Huh?"

Spyro poked the robot in front of him, who jumped hysterically and started to hover rapidly in circles. "DON'T DEACTIVATE ME! PLEASE! TAKE ALL OF MY GEMS JUST DON'T," "Hey hey M.P. dude. We're here to get you to open a door for us. We don't need cash." Sparx explained calmly, but the Droid was too busy panicking. Spyro strode a claw forwards, making the droid trip and fall to the floor. "Well that works too."

"Come on, you gotta help us open a door to the lab area. You're the Guard for Terminal 002, right?"

"A-a-a-a-a-affirmative..." the droid said, its eyes switching from blank TV screens to their custom blue-colored pools.

"Can you open the door for us, then?"

"Af-ff-ff-"

"I'll take that as a yes" Sparx sighed, then poked Spyro's head, "Let's go."

With those last words, the three moved to the Lab Area again. In front of them stood the large barrier that blocked the access to the labs. Spyro looked at the Guard Droid as he worked on opening it. "Lock... disengaged... access is now allowed... please take extreme caution with,"

"Yeah yeah yeah, whatever you say" Spyro walked hastily inside the lab, not waiting even for Sparx to proceed.

"Sorry, he swallowed an entire meatball. Kinda got onto his head y'know" Sparx explained quickly, "Well, see ya!" he said and followed Spyro on his trails. The droid barely commented, just pushed a button on the left of the console he was managing and returned to his post.

"You know," Sparx caught up with Spyro, "To be such a useless Guard he's a nice guy."

"Yeah, but now I wonder... shouldn't we have asked the way to the Professor's lab? I don't think this is exactly a one way street."

"I know what you feel dude. I feel like in one of those bug-infested dungeons you used to send me in. Well you still do, but I can fly faster now at least. I don't see a reason why,"

"Okay that's enough, isn't there anything else to talk about?"

Silence.

"Sparx? Hey, usually you'd throw me a rhetorical or two before," Spyro looked up. There was Sparx, frost in the spot, his left index finger pointing forwards.

Spyro lowered his head and looked to the direction Sparx was pointing. There was a huge piece of machinery left laying on there. But it wasn't just scrap heap on the floor. It was evident it was another droid, but this one was at least four times the size of a common one. Spyro grunted slightly, "Let's go back," "Words sweet words!" Sparx raised his fist in a victory pose.

"And find a way around it."

"Knew it wouldn't last" Sparx dropped his arms and sighed, slowly and idly following Spyro.

Spyro grinned at Sparx and turned around, walking some feet towards the former barrier. The dragon stopped stared daggers at what he had to witness. The barrier was back. This time it was a bright-red-color. "What's going on here?" he growled, almost knowing what was coming.

"INTRUDER ALERT INTRUDER ALERT! ALL NEARBY UNITS MOVE TO POINT A0063! TWO SUSPECTS' SCAN COMPLETE. DISPOSE OF THEM IMMEDIATELY." The computer nearby rang. Sparx was almost petrified.

"I... hate... computers..." Sparx said and flew back against Spyro's head as he backed up as well.

"No need to tell me that. But what caused this? I thought the security system was disabled or something?"

Sparx stared wide-eyed at the camera filming them, "I don't think this place is under the control of... that same guy..." he said.

"What do you mean?" Sparx pointed up at the camera that had them locked in. Spyro turned around and glared at it. "Heh heh heh. What a skilled fighter you are" the grunting voice from the camera's speakers said. Spyro recognized the voice immediately as it added, "You don't lose time ever, right, Spyro?"

"Red..." Spyro growled, "Where are you, you coward! Where's Ember?!"

"Ember? I have no idea of who or what you're talking about" the voice said, "But I know for certain, that you'll entertain me a bit, before we actually fight. Want some warm up?"

"No?" Sparx raised his hand hopelessly.

"Look behind you."

Spyro moved his vision around, his jaw dropping at seeing the huge robot shaking and standing up from its collapsed position. Sparx's jaw kept falling lower and lower, before it literally fell onto Spyro's head. The Guardian was totally armed, it had various weapons installed on itself. From energy rifles to humongous axes ready to shot and chop down anything on their path. It appeared it was fully shielded too. No where could Spyro be certain if it had any weak spot at all. He looked back at the camera in anger, "How can you control these robots and give the computers orders? You're not even in charge!" A laugh was heard. "I have some skill with machinery, dear young one. I fused with one, remember? I can control other machines at my will, and I'll make them destroy you for me. That will save me time from dirtying my claws on you."

"You chicken! Come fight me yourself! Don't be a wuss!" Spyro called out, almost roaring at the camera.

"Not today, little whelp. Today's not our day to fight. Hmm, now that I think about it... it's so ironic that the very city you once saved from doom will now doom you to death! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"

Sparx lifted his jaw up and stared at the camera as well. "To be honest, he's got quite a charismatic evil laugh."

Spyro ignored Sparx and growled at the camera, the speakers had gone silent and the camera had stopped moving, it was locked on Spyro. "Where are you?! Answer me!" he growled, expecting reply but none came.

Sparx was poking Spyro repeatedly on top of his head. When he had attention, he pointed at the huge mecha coming their way. Spyro grunted and shifted position. "Fine! Let's warm up!" "Warm up? What if we just run,"

"Support me, Sparx!" Spyro interrupted, the dragonfly sighing and floating next to the purple dragon with no other comment.

"Enemy locked. Begin extermination." The computer in the robot said, grabbing one of its impossibly huge axes and pointing its blade towards Spyro.

Spyro set himself on a battle stance and taunted. "Let's party."

To be continued...
