Spyro and the Sun God: Chapter 9
Spyro was taken to the large hut in the village, and was currently laying down on one of the beds, having a very high fever, for a dragon, of about 150 degrees Fahrenheit. He groaned in his sleep, having another odd dream.
"Spyrrooooo..." The same voice from his last dream called out to him, echoing through the empty space where he stood. "Saaavveee meeee....Spyyrrooo..."
"Ember..?" The dragon recognized the voice now, his ears perking up to get a better listen. "Ember! Where are you, Ember??" he shouted, dashing off in a direction, but not seeming to go anywhere. "EMBER!" he roared, trying to get any response he could from the voice.
Outside the dream, the dragon groaned Ember's name in his sleep, giving a soft growl as well.
"Jeez...he really likes her, doesn't he?" Sparx commented, looking down at the sleeping dragon, Flame and Hunter asleep on the other side of the hut.
"Well, that's very sweet of him...he just cares about his lover, that's all!" Mina added, coming up behind Sparx. "Ahh...yeah, I guess. That is really sweet of him...yeah!" Sparx continued, trying to impress the dragonfly female by acting nice.
"EMBER! ANSWER ME!!" Spyro roared out again, looking around, seeing nothing but darkness all around him.
"Sspyyrrroooo..." the voice called out again, echoing all around once more. He sighed and took another glance around, still seeing nothing but darkness, so he just sat down, closing his eyes and trying to relax. A minute or two of silence passed, not a single sound except the dragon's heartbeat were to be heard.
Suddenly a faint pink glow could be seen, the whelp opening one eye and blinking, opening his other and looking at the strange pink glow, seemingly coming towards him. "Ember...?"
"Spyro!!" The dragoness' voice came again, the pink glow getting brighter and brighter as it approached.
"Ember!! Is it really you??" Spyro questioned, breaking out into a sprint. Seeing the dragoness, he smiled widely, and pounced at her, his front legs extended out to hug her. "Ember!!!" He happily cried, not noticing that he had flown right through the dragoness until he crashed to the floor, sliding a little bit. "Owww..." "Spyro? Are you alright?" Ember asked, turning and looking towards him, hovering in the air, though her wings weren't moving.
"Y-yeah...that was odd..." Spyro groaned slightly, getting back up and shaking his head, before turning to her, blinking in surprise. "You're...a ghost?"
"Well, yes...I'm visiting you in your dream." Ember explained, slowly floating down to the ground, her body half transparent.
"Huh? I didn't know you could do that..." Spyro scratched his head in confusion, looking at the pink dragoness ghost.
"I didn't know I could, either...guess it just came to me."
"Oh Ember...even if it's just a dream, it's still good to see you." Spyro smiled, approaching the dragoness, wishing he could at least give her a kiss.
"Same to you, my dear." Ember wagged her tail, smiling cutely. "It's so lonely...where I am..."
"Oh! That reminds me...do you know where you are?" Spyro asked, his ears perked up, ready to listen.
"No, I'm not sure...but I think I'm at the Avalar Arena." The dragoness answered, thinking for a second. "I see. Don't worry, Ember. I'll get to you A.S.A.P." Spyro smiled, forgetting she was a ghost and trying to nuzzle her, finding that he was just nuzzling air.
"I know you miss me Spyro, but don't worry...I'm okay. I love you, Spyro..." The pink dragoness tried to nuzzle him too, also failing, but still smiling happily, before fading away slowly and leaving Spyro in the darkness once again.
"Love you too...Ember..." Spyro sighed, closing his eyes again, and laying down, trying to fall asleep, hopefully to get out of the dream.
He managed to wake up about an hour later, instantly feeling a burning sensation in his head, letting out a groan. "Gggghh...What...?" he started, his eyes half-open, taking a glance around the room. He suddenly felt something cold and wet pressed against his forehead, which turned out to be Hunter setting a cloth on his forehead, which was soaked with icy cold water.
"Don't worry, bud. That fever will be gone in a while." Hunter assured, standing back up again.
"Where...what happened?" The dragon weakly asked, closing his eyes again, trying to rest. "It was Red. Used some fire thing on ya. Just sit tight, okay?" The cheetah replied, before exiting the hut. "We'll try to cure this as soon as we can, just don't try anything stupid while you're recovering, okay?"
Meanwhile, at the Professor's Island Lab...
"Look bud, I told you already! Show me some ID, and I'll let you in!" Agent 9 was guarding the laboratory, and currently, not letting Blue inside.
"You little chimp! Let me in before I destroy you!" The large blue dragon growled, glaring down at the monkey.
"Hey, hey, no need to get violent now, old man." Agent 9 armed his laser gun, holding it in one hand. "But if you want to try, then try!" he taunted, grinning.
"I AM NOT AN OLD MAN!!" Blue roared, hurling a fireball at the monkey, who easily dodged.
"Kinda slow there, old man?" he taunted, firing a shot from his blaster, hitting Blue in the face, but he only growled, the sting not hurting much.
"Call me an old man again and see what happens." Blue growled, hurling a couple more fireballs.
"I don't know...maybe we should go back to the retirement home, so you can rest, gramps." Agent 9 taunted again, pressing a button on his belt, a force field coming up around him, and deflecting the two fireballs. "That's it!" Blue roared, holding his claw spread open, it glowing for a few seconds before pointing it at Agent 9, then closing his fist, the force field deactivating.
"Okay, so you can break my force field. Very nice, gramps." He grinned, trying to move, but finding that he couldn't move any of his limbs. "Hey, what gives?!"
"I have you now, little monkey." Blue grinned, moving his claw upwards, making Agent 9 rise off the ground. "Looks like the "Old Man" has bested you."
"Hey! Lemme go ya old coot!" Agent 9 struggled, but still not being able to move. He was moved more by Blue, being turned upside down, and feeling the blood rush to his head.
"Now, tell me the password to the door, or I'll give you such a head rush, you'll have amnesia for days!"
"Okay! The password is 1337." Agent 9 hastily replied, closing his eyes, his face starting to turn red from the pressure.
"Thank you. Now was that so hard?" Blue taunted, bringing the monkey back, before pushing him up against the wall, and unclenching his fist, sticking Agent 9 to the wall. He then approached the button box at the door, and pressed the button combination that Agent 9 had mentioned. It beeped two times, the last light not turning green like the other two. Blue expected the door to open, but no response, he immediately turned to the stuck monkey, "What is the meaning of this?!" Blue roared, but no reply came back. Agent 9 wasn't in his wall. "What?"
"Ooh-oohga!"
"Huh?" Blue turned around again, feeling some sort of uneasy all of a sudden. He looked up only to see a big cage falling onto him and en-closing him up.
The monkey was standing on top of the cage, grinning and with his arms folded, "You know, only two people have fallen for that. Guess the third is the FUNNIEST! KE-HEE!" the ape started dancing on top of the cage mockingly, but with a smile in his face.
"Grr... you... YOU WILL PAY!" the blue dragon roared, "NO ONE SHALL MAKE ANY MOCKERY OF ME!" he claimed.
"Aww, getting onto your sentimental mood, gramps? Don't tell me... your grandchildren didn't go visit you today, huh-huh-huh?! UKKI-KI!" the monkey taunted, laughing his head off.
"RRRR..."
Agent 9 proceeded to the edge of the cage, leaning down to be able to watch the big caged-up dragon "Hey, you remind me of that old washing machine the professor used to have here, made exactly the same funny sounds as you. Huh?" he asked himself as he saw Blue leaning down, both his arms were spread into air. The monkey, not understanding what was happening, resorted to a small pocket-manual he had stored. He opened it and read by using the colored pictures in the book "Hmm... page 6 of the manual says I should throw him into the sea and let piranhas work on him for a bit. Oh wait that's what I should've done five minutes ago! Geez, paperwork."
"I will destroy you!" Blue roared once again, his claws brimming with energy as he suddenly pushed the cage's doors away from the cell he was held in. "Grraaaah!" before the top of the cage fell onto Blue, he was somehow able to crouch, look up, lean his fist and crush it with an upper before it even moved.
"WAH!" Agent 9 went flying off to the floor with the remains of the cage. "That was some explosion!" he stood up and dusted himself off, before looking up at Blue "I like fireworks better, got any?"
Blue smirked, "As a matter of fact" he opened his maw, ready to spit out a big fireball. However, he felt a pain in his tongue and throat which made him stop, "GAH!"
Smoke was coming out of the monkey's laser gun, three shots had been fired "Geez, can't believe you'd fall for it" he said while shaking his head in disappointment. "Must be a senior moment I guess." Blue, with a small tear of agony in his left eye, glared at the primate, who only grinned back to him. "GRRAAAAAAH!" Blue roared again, this time launching himself towards Agent 9. However, the monkey simply meeped and ran of fast, making Blue crash onto the floor with no reward.
"Tag!" the monkey shot a laser towards the dragon's tail, not actually damaging it, but stinging it again, "You're it!" he chuckled, before jumping to a spinning bar and leaving by a big hole in the wall which lead to the training grounds.
"I've had enough of your silly games!" Blue growled, "I'll smash this door apart!"
"You caaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan't..." a taunting voice came from the other side.
"Watch me try!" Blue pounded the door three times with his fists, then spun and brought his tail to strike at it hard. The door however had hardly even been damaged or budged at all. "What?!"
"Told yaaaaa..."
"Grr, stop that! Tell me how to open the damn door!"
"Uhm, no. But if you can catch me, maybe."
The wall in front of Agent 9 crumbled apart; Blue was irritated, his eyes showing fury and his maw crackling with embers. "YOU WILL PAY FOR THIS INSOLENCE!" "C'mon" the monkey waved a hand to Blue as if by daring him, "Let's dance."
Back at the Dragon Village...
Spyro was still laying in bed, his fever having gone down to just a little above normal, but he still held the icy cloth on his head, which had been re-soaked many times to keep it cold.
"Feeling alright, Spyro?" Flame asked, entering the hut, looking over towards his purple friend.
"Yeah...fine." Spyro nodded, sitting up on the bed, and shaking off the cold cloth. "Where is everyone?"
"Outside, having lunch. I just came to bring you some." The red whelp explained, exiting for a second, then coming back in, pulling a wagon with his tail, which held a bowl of stew.
"Thanks." Spyro smelled the stew as it was placed in front of him. "Ahh...just like they always make." he smiled, dipping the end of his muzzle into the bowl, starting to drink up the thick, tasty stew.
"Hey what happened back there? It's the first time Red gets you like that."
With some of the stew falling off his cheeks, Spyro lifted his head and looked directly at Flame with a saddened expression, "...It was dangerous, Flame." "Dangerous?"
"Being up against Red in the middle of a village is just a part of his plan."
"Plan? What are you talking about?"
Spyro crunched onto a thick piece of meat he had picked up from the stew and swallowed, before looking back at his red friend, "He knows he can't win if he tries. So he's using everyone... so I can't fight..."
"I see..." Flame looked at the floor, "Didn't seem like we could do anything about it. Red's a filthy coward, he'll use anything at his disposal just to get what he wants."
Spyro nodded. For once, he seemed to be calm, even though he couldn't hide the fact he felt worry. "I can't help to think what they will do next... they got Ember... they have this place wrecked and they just keep coming back and I can't do anything about it..."
Flame grunted a bit at the reality, but immediately spoke "Hey, it's not like you can control whether they are evil or not. In time we'll drive them off, like always, okay?"
"You know," Spyro chuckled to Flame, "Ever since we started training together you've gained quite the gut. Before you'd just be a prisoner with everybody else." "Heh. Guess self-defense is nice to have."
Spyro smiled, nodding, "I should get up and leave already..."
"Where to?" Flame said, blinking. "You even know where they at?"
"Gulp's Coliseum" the dragon answered.
"Huh? How do you know that?"
"Uhm... it's hard to explain, but... Ember visited me in a dream and told me."
Flame suddenly became disturbed by the purple whelp's words "Didn't know she could do that..."
Spyro noticed the younger dragon's expression. "Something wrong?"
"Nothing... It's just it's the first time I hear about that."
"Oh, I see... anyways.. I have... to go..." Spyro said, but his stinging body hurt all over from the severe burns and bruises, "Grrr... that was a tough fight..."
"Hey... don't push yourself so hard. You'll worry everyone. Sparx was almost knocked out cold and was doing a melodrama routine after not hearing you talk for more than four hours. Guess he needs someone to relieve his artist's mind."
Spyro laughed a bit, resting himself on the soft bed. He had to admit everything felt comfortable, he hadn't been able to rest ever since all this had started. He looked at Flame and said: "I'll take a nap then... I want to be ready to leave by tomorrow..." he said. Even though everything seemed to be nice and cozy when resting, he knew he couldn't have that luxury, at least, not until Ember was back by his side. Back at the Island Laboratory...
"KEEE!" Agent 9 hardly evaded a fireball, that almost singed his tail, "Woke up with the wrong smelly foot, HUH?!" he growled to the big blue dragon still chasing him.
"You wanted fun? HAVE ALL THE FUN YOU WANT!" Blue opened his maw, releasing a firestorm that blew right towards the monkey, who could only brace himself after mindlessly jumping towards a container. "HAHAHA! GOT YOU!" he cheered, roaring into the lab.
"Aaarrgh... KOFF" the monkey coughed, his body almost totally blackened with ashes, he was on his knees on the floor next to the container he wanted to use to his advantage now, and couldn't actually manage to stand up, "This... ugh... isn't fair... GAK!" he got pulled up by Blue, who held him captive into one of his massive claws.
"Now come... and write the correct code for that door."
"Want any tea or something first? I got some great flavors that,"
"NOW."
"Fine I get it..."
After arriving, Blue forced Agent 9 against the control panel. The monkey had no other choice, "Fine... but I'm not responsible for what you see there, and that includes psychological traumas, wrong-sided reality conception, eye-sores or," "OPEN IT!" Blue commanded the ape, who only grunted back and wrote BANANA123 in the pad. The door opened and the dragon grinned, profusely throwing Agent 9 back and away from him.
"Oww! Soft landing..." the ape grunted, struggling to get up.
"What? What is this?"
"What?! Something's broken?!" the ape hurried this time and almost immediately appeared in front of Blue. "Ohh... sweet, everything's in order" he smiled, relieved, and put his hands on his hips. Two eyes glowed menacingly behind him.
"WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS?!" Blue roared out, the monkey was sent flying to a pile of bananas. "Where is what I'm looking for?!"
"What? You aren't here to steal my bananas? All those Rhynocs seemed to interested in them that I just thought of putting them in a safe place, but you know with all that of a safe-lock thing and the fact they could steal it back and forth it would deprive me of many things that, you know,"
"SILENCE!" Blue roared again, "I'M TIRED OF YOU! I DON'T CARE IF I GET THAT STABILIZER OR NOT, YOU'RE DEAD MEAT!!" Blue grunted, before rushing towards the wounded Agent 9, who only reacted to widen his eyes at the speeding dragon that was coming right at him.
A loud blast-sound echoed the place, followed by a groan, then the place darkened into complete silence. To be continued...
