Spyro and the Sun God: Chapter 10.
"GAH!" Agent 9 gasped as Blue came at him at full speed.
"YOU ARE DEAD!" the big dragon claimed.
The place went into what seemed like an ever-lasting dusk of silence. However, a groan was heard as the dust clouds rose up after the attack had been delivered. When the dust cleared, Agent 9 was standing next to Blue, he was sitting on his butt, and Blue was, so to speak, impaled head first onto a wall. "You know... koff... I hate monkey business like this" he said, before slowly getting up.
Blue put his claws on either side of his neck, the crack on the wall was really big, but Blue couldn't stick his head out of the wall no matter how hard he tried to pull.
"Okay..." Agent 9 gasped and tried to move, still hurt, "Better get outta here..." he said to himself. "Need... get... help..." he closed one eye and went in front of another console, quickly typing on it the keyword: 456PEELS. And the door in front of him opened with a small clank, Agent 9 found everything he needed. "Uki..." he mumbled, grabbing a banana-shaped stick of aerosol, he sprayed his wounds with it and moved his aching limbs slightly, "Ahh... much better!" he said, before starting to carefully set himself up with the equipment inside. "Grrrr... GRAAAAAHH!" Blue groaned on the other side, suddenly crashing his head out of the wall and releasing himself, "Where are you, you insolent fool?!" Blue roared, smashing the debris around him with either his claws or his tail as he approached the newly opened gate Agent 9 had gone through. "YOU- huh?"
There stood the futuristic-styled ape, but instead of just carrying his Laser Gun, he was carrying what seemed like a shotgun-sized atomizer beam shooter, in the shape of a palm-tree. On his hips there were two bigger versions of his laser gun, both shaped like bananas. On his back, a strapped jet-pack with a fruit-salad design. Agent 9 was wearing two curved shades and was chewing what seemed to be tobacco. "I recon' I owe you some shots, señorita!" the monkey taunted, before pointing with the weapon at the blue dragon. "Let's duel!" he spat out the tobacco, a ding was heard, and Agent 9 started counting. Blue stood there, half-mindlessly trying to hold himself from laughing or charging at the monkey, the ape was so odd and weird he didn't know what to do! "THREE!" he said and without warning pulled the trigger. Blue braced himself. Suddenly a barrage of light assaulted the huge dragon; explosions occurred all over around Blue as Agent 9 shot, the dragon was covered in dust clouds again by the time Agent 9's ammunition had run out. "GAAH! WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS?!" Blue growled, his wings trying to cover himself. The hits didn't really hurt him, but they stung like nobody else's business! Was it some kind of distraction? Blue didn't wait to know and when the shots calmed down he blew the dust away from him, only to see the monkey flying up above him.
"I'm a pissed off ape with nothing to worry about, and I got two Mr. Laser shooters to introduce you!" Agent 9 exclaimed as he dropped the big gun and withdrew both of his banana pistols, "SAY HELLO!" he started shooting like mad, covering Blue up in the dust the bullets brought up as they hit the floor around him.
Back with Spyro...
The dragon was holding himself upside down with his tail, which was holding onto a small metal bar attached to the roof. Apparently the hut was a gym. "Ember... I can't wait..." he said as he pulled himself up and down.
Sparx flew inside through a window. "Hey, Prof has good news! He knows how to teleport you to Gulp's Coliseum in Avalar!"
Suddenly Spyro's eyes lit, he grinned and pulled himself down, "Then what are we waiting for?!" he said, before ramming his way through the door. "I sometimes wonder why they don't just give him huts with no doors" Sparx mumbled slightly, before following his friends.
"Hey," Spyro asked as he ran through the meadow, "Where are Hunter and Flame?"
"Uhh... Flame and Mina had to do some stuff, apparently... and Hunter is at the lab, waiting for us!"
"Great!" Spyro grinned, happily boosting his speed and charging through the mountain's trail until he was at the peek where the lab was.
"Wait-breath-please-stop-hungry-thirsty..." Sparx groaned. He was lying on top of Spyro's back, after the first half-mile he had exhausted his wings already.
"Geesh, you'd say he was all burnt and hurt a day ago" Hunter stepped out the entrance, smiling down at Spyro, "Hey, you feeling better I take it?"
Spyro nodded "Like anew."
Sparx complained "Hunter... Tell him how good it is to rest and take it easy... please..."
"Prof said to hurry" Hunter interrupted, leading Spyro inside the lab.
"Oh, Spyro my boy!" The Professor smiled as he saw the dragon enter, "I'm so glad you could make it this fast!" he said. "Yeah... had to worry about the bruises for the first three hours, but I'm alright now. Where to?!" Spyro hastily asked. The professor scratched his chin at the eagerness.
"Spyro, are you feeling alright?"
"Am I?! Ember visited me in my dreams and told me where to go to her!"
The professor mumbled a bit, before looking directly to the dragon's eyes, "I'm aware of that. But don't you think this is too sudden?" the mole asked, inquisitively.
"What do you mean? Ember is in danger! It's natural that she wants me to be by her side so badly she... uhh..."
"Developed some sort of random powers allowing her to talk to you in dreams? Yeah, that's an everyday thing" Sparx said, rolling over onto the dragon's back.
"Hey buddy, you gotta admit this is way too sudden..." Hunter repeated, folding his arms, "You know it feels like some kind of trap."
"This is my best bet guys" Spyro added, "I can't just neglect this opportunity!" he claimed. The professor nodded.
"I believe that is right, but still, you must be on your guard, you don't know what you might see at this stage..." The mole explained. Spyro only stepped forwards. "I'm ready for anything, Professor. Just show me the way."
"If you say so..." the mole walked towards a sealed gate, he just input the keywords and it opened, revealing a mini-portal, "This should be the perfect gateway towards Gulp's Coliseum... go if you must, Spyro. I wish you luck."
"Thank you... let's go Sparx" Spyro said, the dragonfly trying his best to hover next to him.
"AHEM!"
"Hunter?" Spyro turned his head around, "Anything left to say."
"Yeah" Hunter stepped forwards, "Can't let you have all the fun" he said, grabbing and equipping his bow and quill, "Let's go kick some ass!" he grinned down to the quadruped.
Spyro smiled, feeling a bit more comfortable with another ally by his side, "Thanks pal. Let's go!" he said, before jumping into the portal, followed by his dragonfly and the cheetah.
"I hope the coordinates were fine..." the professor said after the three had warped, he looked quizzical.
In Avalar...
A portal opened and two figures came crashing down onto barren land, "Ugh! Are we here already?" Spyro asked, looking around, but only noticing a dizzy Sparx floating around. He flat-stared, but was able to recognize the place, "Huh?" he gasped. Had he been an anime character, a very big drop of sweat would be running down his side. "This is not Gulp's Coliseum!" "Hey! Isn't that the volcano where we played Snatch-Rock-Popcorn?" Hunter inquired; Spyro's jaw was still dropped.
"Oh hey, Spyro!" a male faun stepped towards the two newcomers, "It's a pleasure seeing you again! Welcome back to Magma Cone! Enjoy the party! We have free hotdogs at the top of the volcano! That is... if the Earthshapers didn't eat them all again! Haha, well enjoy our humble hospitality!" the faun concluded, walking away while weaving a hand.
"You know, he must have mistaken those zeroes again" Hunter added, before slapping Spyro softly on his cheek, "Quick, let's run atop the hill so we can get to the volcano. I heard the entrance is blocked for maintenance..."
"Well isn't that lovely?" Sparx added when he was sure he would be able to form words and not gurgling sounds. "We get a free tour to the inside of a volcano again."
"At least the Earthshapers aren't going to bother us now" Hunter said. Spyro shook himself off his shock and nodded, "Let's go, hurry!" he said, charging quickly and circling the way around the volcano. Both of his friends followed him all the way up until they jumped towards the elevator room. Moneybags was sitting there, eating hotdogs. "Welcome welcome!" the bear said his catchphrase for customers, not paying attention at who they were, "For the modest fine of a hundred gems you may use this elevator for, SPYRO!" Moneybags suddenly stood up, chunks of weenie and bread falling from his mouth as he closed himself next to the nearby wall, smiling nervously, "Go in go in! HEEHEE! YOUR FRIENDS DON'T NEED TO PAY EITHER!" he said hastily, his fur almost standing up like a cat's.
Spyro paid not attention, and walked forwards, sitting on the elevator. "You coming?" he asked Hunter, who was eyeing Moneybags weirdly.
"Sure?" the cheetah said, entering the elevator shaft along with Sparx. "What did you do to him? Why is he shakin' so much... more than normal?" the feline inquired, quizzically staring at the dragon, who only shrugged.
Spyro replied, "Persuasion, I guess."
As they descended, the trio was unaware of what was going on at the Island Lab, where Agent 9 kept unloading barrages of laser beams onto Blue.
"Goddamnit boi! Yer even tougher then da roaches!" Agent 9 said with a mid-western voice impersonation, now smoking a cigarette and with a cowboy hat on top of his head. "Get da hell outta here foreigner! These 'ere grounds are for my gold!" he said, emphasizing the word 'gold'. "What the hell are you doing!?" Blue growled, staring at the acting monkey. "Whatever it is, you are only pissing me off!" he continued, his rage towards the monkey growing.
"Maybe we'll have to annex part o' the county, then!" Agent 9 continued to play along with his game, before whipping out his two banana lasers, spinning them on his fingers. "Or maybe just a good 'ol duel!"
"That's it, chimp! You asked for it! NOW DIE!!" Blue roared, releasing his Fury power, opening his maw and letting out a huge blast of sub-zero wind, mixed with lots of snow and ice shards. When it had ended, Agent 9 was left frozen in a solid block of ice, completely unmoving.
"That will teach you to mess with Blue, destroyer of worlds!" The dragon growled, smirking as he walked right past the frozen ape, approaching the door again. Stepping to the right of it, where the metal was weaker, he clenched his fist, and punched as hard as he could, managing to put a deep dent in the metal. Another punch and the wall broke. After a few minutes of breaking down the metal, the hole was big enough to climb through. Upon entering the lab, he glanced around, instantly spotting what he was looking for. "Ah ha! There's the component." he grasped a box not too far away from him, and looked inside it. "Yes, this will do. Now to get the hell out of here..." he was about to turn around, but he heard a sound, and there was a bright flash on the other side of the room. "Who goes there??"
"Who do you think?" a voice answered, turning out to be none other than Agent 9. "You think you could beat me that easily, Mister Destroyer of Worlds?" he grinned, laughing a little bit.
"But...what...HOW?!" he looked back, seeing the supposed Agent 9 still frozen in the ice.
"Cloning vat! Duh!" The agent replied as he was taking out his laser again. And suddenly another Agent 9 popped up from behind a machine...and another, and another, until practically the whole room was filled with clones.
"What?! This can't be happening!" Blue snarled turning and exiting the building, quickly spreading his wings and flying off.
"Hey, get back here old man!" at least 40 voices all said at the same time, the army of Agent 9's storming out of the room, all firing their laser guns at Blue. One of them, the real Agent 9, fired a small tracking device, which attached onto Blue's tail, and quickly injected a small machine into the dragon's bloodstream. A few of the lasers managed to hit, but the dragon elder just growled, and continued to fly towards Balgaar's base, soon escaping the island lab. "Damn pests..."
The clones all raised their fists and cheered in victory, clone #3 said: "Hey good work chimp!" and high-fived #6 "You're the man!"
#6 chuckled and pointed at #3 with a dandy wink, "No, you're the ape!"
#36 was fighting over the big banana pile in the container, "Hey gimme that!"
"No way! Mine!" #2 shouted, brawling over the floor against his 'brother'.
#8 growled, impatiently stepping his foot on the floor noisily, "Hey stop fighting, you know it's my turn to eat bananas!"
Agent 9 sighed and shook his head, before turning to all of his clones, "You better stop clones! Geesh we got to think of that intruder, not bananas, right now! I'll melt you all if you keep this up!
#2 grunted, "What? Who made you the leader? You're not even the real one!"
#4 jumped forward, raising a hand suggestively, "Yeah! Who's the leader? Who's the real one?" Agent 9 slapped his forehead. "I'm the real one!" #10 boasted, knocking on his chest like a gorilla.
"Uki... not this again..." Agent 9 slammed his head against the nearest wall softly.
Back in Avalar...
"Ready to go, Hunter?" Spyro asked, the three standing in front of the portal to the arena.
"Uhh... Yeah, sure. I dunno what they put in those hotdogs, but I feel... Bleh." Hunter shook his head, trying to focus.
"Alright, let's go." Spyro hopped into the portal, followed by Sparx and Hunter.
"They approach." Balgaar thought with a grin, his spying device spying on Spyro and friends. The device had been stolen from the professor's lab by his apprentice.
Landing in the stands of the coliseum, Spyro and Hunter kept on their guards as they slowly descended the staircase.
"Be on the lookout for any traps..." Hunter warned, his bow ready to fire.
Spyro did just that, until he spotted his pink dragoness, lying in the middle of the arena. "EMBER!!" He cried out, forgetting about any possible traps, and making a dash for her. Once he reached, the dragoness was gone, turning out to be just a hologram. "Damnit! Who did this?!" "Hey, calm down Spyro. We don't know who, or what could be-" Hunter got cut off mid-sentence, groaning loudly, then not making any noise at all.
"Hunter?" Spyro looked over towards the stands, gasping as he saw Hunter frozen in place, not moving at all. "Hunter!!"
"Welcome to my lair, young dragon." A female voice called out, Spyro cocking his head around again to face it. "Sorry to tell you this, but your princess is in another castle."
"Hey! I'm the one who makes the lame jokes!" Sparx blurted out, pointing to himself with his thumb.
"You! What have you done with Ember?!" Spyro demanded, growling and snarling at the silhouette that he saw, which came out of the shadows, revealing itself to be an adult dragoness. She had shiny, white scales, with golden spikes going down her neck and back, all the way to her tail, which had a fin on the end.
"Ember? Oh, she's locked away where you'll never see her again." The dragoness answered, slowly approaching Spyro with seductive, sly movements, much like an arrogant feline showing off. "Tell me where she is!" The dragon growled, showing his teeth now.
"I don't think you want to know, Spyro dear. Because I've discovered something from her...and it's about you." the adult continued to walk circles around Spyro, her chest seeming to puff out greatly, being well developed.
"What? You're just lying!" Spyro's growl lowered a little, hearing her words.
"Is it just me or is this chick scary?" Sparx whispered in Spyro's ear.
"Oh no, I'm not lying. I heard it with my own ears. She said....she said she doesn't love you, in fact..." She continued, looking into Spyro's eyes, her own eyes flashing for a split second.
"Wh-what...? No...That can't be true...Ember wouldn't say something like that..." Spyro stammered, his eyes widening.
"Oh it's true alright. She's taken to loving my master's apprentice, who she said is a lot better at pleasing her." The dragoness smirked, her tail brushing against Spyro's side. "You poor little thing... loosing your girl like that."
"No... N-no... It- it can't be true!" Spyro growled, half-believing the dragoness now. "It is... entirely true, young dragon... She's fallen for another one. Too bad..." she sat in front of Spyro, shaking her head back, her flowing hair falling behind her, and her pupils moving to look at Spyro's, her eyes flashing again.
"Ember..." A tear ran down the dragon's cheek as he collapsed on the ground. "How could you...do this...?"
"Hey Spyro, did you forget that she's NOT ON THE GOOD SIDE?!" Sparx knocked on Spyro's head, but he wasn't listening.
"Oh you poor little thing..." The dragoness gently stroked Spyro's head with her claw. "It's okay...you'll find another mate, I'm sure."
"B-but... Ember... she's the only one I've ever," Spyro complained, another tear running down his cheek, as he got interrupted by the cunning adult.
"Well...I could find you one, sweetie." The dragoness offered, gently lifting Spyro's head with one finger under his chin. "As long as you agree to come with me?"
Spyro stared at her claw, he couldn't help but feel different about this dragoness, he felt... almost hypnotized by her "Y-yes...please..." Spyro answered, smiling a little bit and nodding. "HEY! SPYRO!! SNAP OUT OF IT!!" Sparx shouted, flying to Spyro's face, before pulling his eyelids up, snapping them down on his eyes.
"Hey! Ow! What did you that for?!" Spyro growled, looking at Sparx.
"Have you forgotten that she's on the ENEMY SIDE? Why do you even believe her?"
"Grr...you're right..." Spyro growled, standing back up again, and backing away from her while shaking his head to get out of what seemed to be the trance. "You're lying, aren't you?!"
"Of course I'm not...would I lie to you?" She asked, backing away as well, her tail swishing left and right behind her, her eyes flashing again towards Spyro. "Damnit...why isn't it working?? Even Elders have been controlled by this before... So why not on this little whelp?" she thought, cursing in her mind.
"Yeah, you WOULD lie to me!" Spyro retorted, growling still, embers coming out of his maw.
Fed up with her former strategy, the dragoness turning to a different stance, where she looked a lot more threatening, "Little runt... Do you really think you can take me on?" She taunted, her large wings instinctively spreading out to their full size, trying to make herself seem a lot bigger to the little dragon. "Yeah...I've taken down dragons twice your size." Spyro grinned, spreading his wings as well.
The dragoness only hissed at him, her eyes narrowing. "Let's see if you can do it again, then!" with nothing left to say, the white dragoness disappeared.
Spyro was left, standing on his battle stance and growling as he looked to his left and to his right repeatedly, "That's being a chicken!" he accused, looking out for any incoming attack, before getting struck and sent to fly right onto the floor next to the still petrified Hunter. "Ugh! Good slash..." he simply muttered, growling to the small, but open wound on his cheek.
"Didn't you say you had defeated dragons twice my size? Wasn't that bluffing...? Tee-hee... that must be why Ember doesn't love you!"
"What?!" Spyro immediately stood up, growling louder than ever as smoke trailed off and out his nostrils.
The white dragoness stood proudly in front of Spyro, towering over the smaller whelp and grinning menacingly as she materialized in front of him, "You're so naïve!" she slashed again, but this time thrust Spyro down with her attack, "Weak men like you should be worm food!" "You... gghh..." Spyro coughed a bit, but clawed at his enemy's leg very hard and with all of his strength. Normally no adult would even push back, but Spyro had put so much effort, he made her shriek and jump away, and then noticed the bleeding in her ankle.
"You! What an insolence!" the white dragoness growled to him as Spyro stood up slowly, coughing as all of his four legs shook slightly, "How dare you hurt my beautifully perfect body!"
"Who... who sent you...?" Spyro suddenly asked, one of his eyes was closed, and his fangs were gritted together, "Was it Red? Blue? Who are you anyways?!"
"Hmph! If you must know... you may refer to me as Lady Avalyn!"
"Wow cute name for a serious bitch" Sparx quickly said between teeth to Spyro.
Spyro grunted, "Avalyn... huh?" he said, staring deeply into her eyes from afar, "Why are you doing this?" he asked.
Avalyn sat down, staring down at the younger dragon as she smiled innocently, "Do you always talk to your opponents like this?"
"Never faced someone like you," Spyro said, "That's for sure" he added. "You are so amusing" Avalyn smirked, "It's unfortunate that I can't finish you off now."
"Did I just hear a sweet sentence I never expected to hear?" Sparx flew from behind Spyro's head, looking towards Avalyn with a weird stare, "Oh never mind, musta been a truck going reverse."
"What are you talking about?" Spyro took a step forwards, Avalyn smiled down to the whelp and spread her wings.
"My Master has a very appropriate place for you in his plan, so he doesn't need to remove you... for now. Enjoy your seat as you see us dominating the realms" her smile grew as she heard Spyro growl, she was flapping her wings and already moving away.
"Hey come back!" Spyro demanded, launching himself into the air and gliding towards Avalyn.
"Tend your friend..." Avalyn pointed towards Hunter with her head, winking to Spyro, who looked towards Hunter who had regained his old self, but as soon as he looked back to where Avalyn had been, he saw nothing. "So long... purple dear!"
A dark giggle echoed through the coliseum as Spyro softly landed back on the floor, he looked disappointed. Hunter had recovered already and walked next to his friend, "Hey, Spyro, how did it go?" "Avalyn... she escaped..." Spyro said, still staring through the empty window and into the sky, hoping he would find a trace as to where to go next.
"I take it that's not good" Hunter scratched the back of his head confusedly. In his petrified state he hadn't been able to see or hear anything.
"Remember that time you had to crawl around the room full of grandma-chairs?" Sparx commented.
"Okay, definitely not good" the cheetah sighed, "Back to square one..."
To be continued...
