Lion's Karma
#2 of Box of Chocolates
And here is chapter 2. Blah blah blah enjoy.
Chapter 2
Later that day, (at school that is) things seemed to go astray. When the group arrived at school, Ned began his enrollment. He had the same core classes as Joey and Andrew, and he had art class with Victor. He also had himself enrolled in a graphic design class with Daniel. It seemed as though he was following the group, though that is not possible. In each of those classes though, and this is the strange part, at least one person just randomly started bleeding. Ned seemed to gain some enjoyment from watching the mysterious blood shed around him.
No one really knew much about Ned at the time, so they watched him to find out what he was like. He didn't seem too different on the surface, but Andrew couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong. Andrew watched him throughout the day, but nothing seemed out of the ordinary. After school, Joey and Andrew met up with each other to go hang out and grab a bite to eat. Usual stuff, till Ned came up to them.
"So, what do you usually do after school?" asked Ned.
"Nothing really," Andrew replied. "Joey and I sometimes go out for some food. After that, I go off to work and Joey does who knows what. Isn't that right Joey?"
"That's not true. I know what I do. I just don't feel that it is important enough to tell you. Besides, I do not think that you would totally approve of what I do."
"I think that you should tell us," came a voice from behind Andrew. "I don't appreciate you keeping us in the dark on this subject. I think that we should at least know, even if we won't like it. We are your friends, and we will deal with it."
The small group turned around, and there standing before them was Victor. He was wearing a different shirt than he had been wearing before school. Something seemed to be putting him down.
Joey started to run off and shouted, "I don't have to tell you guys. Gosh. Just leave me alone!"
"Damn it Victor! You know I don't like it when people sneak up on me," shouted Andrew, recovering from this little upset.
"What are you doing here? I thought you and Daniel had a class right now," asked Andrew, trying to regain his composure.
Ned on the other hand, didn't say anything. He stepped up to Victor and looked at him closely.
This sudden attention from the lion made him a bit uncomfortable. Unlike the others, Victor didn't know a thing about Ned and didn't know what to expect.
"If your upset, don't be," said Ned. The lion's voice was somewhat gentle, while at the same time spooky. "Be happy at the simple fact your alive...for now." He gently rubbed Victors cheek and walked off, leaving the group stunned.
There was a grave silence among them until Daniel came walking up to them, neglecting to notice Ned disappear around the corner of the Boys Dorm Building. He looked over the awe-struck group. "Hello? You guys okay?" No one answered. Their eyes still glued to the Dorm Building. This confused the panther, and he struck Andrew behind his head, causing a yelp to erupt from the canine.
After a couple of seconds, the group was staring at Daniel. Confused, he hit Andrew again, "What is wrong with you guys? We are wasting our time just standing around here. Why don't we just go and grab a bite to eat," he said as he walked off in the direction of his ninja. "I'll meet you guys at the pub."
Having nothing else to do, the group just shrugged in unison and walked toward Victor's car. In the car ride, nothing was said. Andrew just sat quietly looking at his laptop. He never typed anything, he just sat there with it in his lap. After awhile, he finally broke the silence.
"Can you take me home Victor? I want to be alone for awhile. I need to think about some things. If that's alright with you and Daniel that is."
"It's alright with me, I need to think about what happened earlier. Here, call Daniel and tell him that we won't be joining him at the pub," Victor said, handing his cell to Andrew.
Andrew took the proffered phone and dialed Daniel's number. After a few rings, Daniel picked up, "Konbanwa!"
"Hi Daniel," said Andrew. "Where are you? At the pub already? If so, then you might as well leave, because Victor and I won't be joining you today."
"Ah, what a shame. I was soooo looking forward to hanging out with you two. Oh well, I will leave you two to your date and get on with life. Hmm, where will I go? I know! I will go up and visit Jamal. He's in town this week you know! I wanna play DDR with him..."
Andrew hung up the phone after the third cut-off attempt to say something to Daniel. He closed his laptop and reclined his seat for the rest of the ride.
When they arrived at Andrew's place, Victor dropped him off, then sped away without a single goodbye. Andrew watched him go with a slight sense of awkwardness. After a few seconds, he walked inside.
Once inside, he flopped down on his bed and fell asleep in seconds. The day hadn't been too long, but he was just confused and somewhat exhausted by the events. As he slept, he dreamed. Not bad dreams, just weird dreams.
Andrew awoke to the sound of birds chirping. He slowly opened his eyes and looked around him. The scene wasn't what he expected to wake up to. He saw around him, Birds, sky, and Ned. He sat up, did a double-take and looked back at Ned.
"Ned isn't supposed to be in my room. Come to think of it, I should be in my room! Hmm. Where could I be? Uh oh. I need to get away from here, Ned scares me somewhat." As all these jumbled thoughts rushed through Andrew's head, Ned walked slowly over.
Ned sat down next to the dog with a sigh. After a couple of seconds, he said, "Well, How do you like it? I personally don't like it much. All of the birds and the open sky. I prefer to be inside and I'd prefer the birds to be dead and bloody. Wait, sorry about that. I like my room the way it is, dark. Why don't we go there instead of being here? I don't like it here too much."
Through all of this, Andrew said nothing, then finally, he blurted out, "What am I doing here? Where is my room? You didn't violate me, did you..." At these last words, Ned placed his fingers on Andrew's lips to stop his attempts to talk. Instead, Ned picked up Andrew and carried him off.
As Andrew was lifted into the air, he noticed that they were above the level of the ground. The next thing he knew, he was being plunged toward the ground, and there was a ringing noise in his ear. An eerie sound that wouldn't stop.
Andrew sat up and looked around for the sound of the ringing. He was back in his room and somewhere near, a phone was ringing. He looked around then remembered that his cell's battery was in his pocket and not attached to his phone. He reached into his pocket and pulled out Victor's phone; the source of the ringing.
He answered the phone, and immediately heard, "Hello, Victor I was just wondering if you were alright? I just saw a vehicle pass by that looked exactly like yours, and it crashed." Daniel's voice sounded panicked on the other end of the line.
"Daniel? This is Andrew, I have Victor's phone. Where are you? Go check out the crash and see if it was Victor. I'll be over soon."
"Alright, the crash was next to the Baker's on Baseline. Next to Ike. Hurry!"
"Alright, I'll be right over."
Andrew got his shoes, which had come off during his sleep and ran out the door. Luckily, he currently lived near Bakers. He ran down the street after locking his door.
He arrived at the crash site a minute later. There was a wreck; two cars. Daniel was pulling victor from the passenger's side door, because the driver's side door was caved in. Ned was off to the side watching the carnage with an odd look in his eyes. The look scared Andrew, and he quickly looked away.
A police car rolled up just as Andrew ran towards Daniel. Andrew was so careless that the officer almost ran into him. Andrew cursed at the officer and continued running to aid Daniel and Victor.
A Clydesdale leaped out of the car and yelled, "Andrew, don't curse at me, I am doing my job. What the hell happened here?"
Andrew froze in his tracks and looked slowly around for the origin of the voice. The voice was somewhat familiar to him. He recognized it from somewhere. It sounded like the voice of a friend from years before.
Andrew looked around until he saw the horse, then he leaped, and his eyes went wide as he said, "Roy! What are you doing here? Oh Shit, Victor was in a car crash, we gotta help him. Come on!"
As he said this, a small fox stepped out of the police vehicle. She looked around at the carnage. Upon seeing Andrew, she smiled and laughed. After a few seconds, she gained control and stopped laughing. She turned to Roy and said, "Shouldn't we be getting to work?"
Roy and the fox ran toward the crash and helped Daniel pull Victor out. The man from the other car was already out, sustaining damage to only the front of his car. Apparently, he was the one who had (probably) tried to run a red light and had (definitely) hit Victor in the side. He ran over to see if Victor was alright. Ned came over and people all around started coming closer to see if everyone was ok.
Victor lifted his head and said, "I'm ok... Kinda. My leg feels dead. My head hurts, other than that, I'm fine."
"What makes you think that we were worried about you?" Daniel looked Victor over, then said, "Come on, we need to get you to the hospital. Your left leg is broken. You were hit pretty hard. We will make everything ok here, Can you take him to the hospital Officer? ... wait, Officer?!?!? Roy! I haven't seen you in forever. And Anne! What're you guys doing here?"
"We were the closest to the crash," said The fox. "And what are you doing here Daniel? I thought you were going to Japan soon."
"My flight doesn't leave till the very last day of this month. So, I have got awhile till I go. At least three weeks."
"Hello, I'm hurt here. My leg is at an odd angle. Don't I get any sympathy?" Victor looked around at the assembled group and made a fake puppy-dog face.
After a few seconds, The horse picked up the Bat and carried him off toward the police vehicle. Daniel followed, while the fox took accounts of what happened from the witnesses.
When Daniel got to the police car with Victor and Roy, he said, "Hey Roy! What are you up to? You know, we never did go ice skating. What're you doing this weekend? We could go out! Let's make it a date! Why don't you call me tonight? Here's my card."
"Now Daniel! I'll call you if I want to call you. Ok, I want to call you! And don't think I forgot about ice, I just figured I'd go with you to keep you from going all weird on me. I'll call you later! Here comes Anne and we've called an ambulance for your friend there. So, go home and have yourself a good time."
Meanwhile, Andrew pulled Victor's car off to the side of the road, with the help of a man with a large truck and a winch.
Andrew walked over to Daniel just as Roy and Anne were pulling away. Daniel had a smile on his face and Andrew watched him with concern. 'I wonder what happened between them while I was over with Victor. Hmm. I think I'll find out soon enough,' thought Andrew smiling slyly.
Daniel turned to face Andrew, and his expression turned from a smile to a confused look. "What's up? Your smiling, and it doesn't bode well for me. Oh well. Tell me how Victor's car is. Do you think it can be fixed?"
"I don't know, but I hope so. I think he had insurance on it, but I don't know for sure."
"I know he had insurance, but I don't know how much damage it covers."
"Never mind that, What happened between you and Roy? I saw you guys talking. And when I got over here, you were smiling."
"So, you think something happened between us? Your wrong. Nothing. We're just back in contact, that's all."
Andrew thought about pressing him for details for a second, then thought better of it. "I'm gonna go back home for now, you head to the hospital to check on Victor."
"I can check on Victor," said a voice from behind Andrew. Andrew spun around instantly ready to attack, though he couldn't win a fight. And there, behind Andrew was, Ned continuing, "I don't mind if you don't."
"No thanks," said Daniel. "I think Victor would like it if I went and hung out with him. I will call you later. Keep Victor's cell with you," and with those words, Daniel set off towards his Ninja.
Andrew then walked home ignoring everything around him almost. He was so absorbed in his thoughts that nothing mattered.
'What was Ned doing there? Why is Ned always near bloodshed. It's like he has something to do with it. I wouldn't be surprised if he did. I think that once I get home, I will lie down and rest. No more thinking for me. I will get some rest and not worry too much about this.'
And with this last thought, he was at his door already, placing the key into the lock. He unlocked his door, went inside, closed the door, and went to his room to sleep. He laid his head on the pillow and fell asleep instantly.
