Here it is. Sorry it's a bit short but I thought it ended at just the right point.

Not so long ago.

"Get up!" Ruaridh commanded. I obeyed, rising to my feet and standing in front of him looking at the ground. Only for him to hit me in the stomach again. I doubled over but stayed standing. He hit me again, and again, and again.

I don't know how long this went on, I don't even know if I remained standing, I don't know why this was happening. All I know is that Ruaridh was angry, and he took it out on me. Suddenly, the pain stopped. Whether I had managed to stay standing through the barrage of blows or not, now I was on the ground.

"What the fuck are you doing?", I was losing conciousness, my vision fading my breathing slowing. I could feel blood running down my face. I think it was James speaking.

"Just..." Ruaridh hesitated, He sounded aggrevated. "Just fuck off, okay. You don't need to get involved."

"What?...No!" James sounded angry now. He knelt down and put a finger to my temple. "You think I'm going to stand by while you kill him?...What did he d...No. Don't tell me. He needs medical attention now! Go get the doctor."

Ruaridh didn't move.

"What are you waiting for?" James was almost shouting, or maybe he was. I can't remember.

_"It's not worth it. Just let him die." _Why wasn't I surprised?

"No, this is murder Ruaridh. He's a person" James growled.

"It's not murder, IT is just a human" Ruaridh barked in return. "If it were up to me, I'd kill them all."

"It's NOT up to you. Go get the doctor NOW!"

There was more shouting before I lost conciousness. Barely audible.

"...doctor...now".

"...uman....worthl..."

I am worthless. Those were my last thoughts before I finally passed out.

Worthless.

.......................................................................................................................................................................

In Seans house I woke up comfortable and warm for the first time in my life. Of course, at first I didn't know where I was, I was confused. Scared even. You don't break almost 20 years of routine without side affects.

I took me a few seconds to remember where I was, and why. I wanted to curl up and go back to sleep, but my few moments of panic prevented me from relaxing. Sighing I stood up and got out of Seans bed.

I looked for the clothes I had removed last night, they were nowhere to be found. Sean was gone, in his place were a folded shirt and pair of trousers. Shrugging, I put them on.

To say that they were too big would be an understatement, The shirt hung almost to my knees and the trousers...well with the drawstrings fastened the waist was okay but the leg length resulted in trailing ankles. Even with the trousers pulled as high as possible.

I must have looked quite the sight, like a child in his fathers clothes. It was then that I heard Seans voice coming from the kitchen, along with another I hadn't heard before.

"Are you sure you're ready for this Sean." It said.

"Dom, this is exactly what I need. I have to stop moping about the past and start thinking about the future." Sean responded. I don't know why, but I knew that this was a conversation I shouldn't interrupt.

"But...this a big step. I mean after..." 'Dom' hesitated.

"Oh hush. You said so yourself. I need a distraction." Sean responded matter-of-factly.

"I meant a hobby, like crafts or something. Or if you wanted a pet you could have gotten a cat or something."

"He's not a pet!" Sean snapped, startling me.

"Then what is he?" Dom asked.

"I just..." Sean sounded like he was about to break down

"You want to replace him." Dom almost whispered.

"No!" Sean cried.

"Then what?" Dom insisted. "Why did you get...what's his name? Silver?"

I assume Sean nodded. "I don't want to be alone anymore!" He cried out.

Dom stayed silent and let Sean speak.

"I need to share my life with someone, I need someone who is both friend and family. Whom I can talk to and count on to listen. I need a shoulder to cry on and someone to care for." Sean was crying now. I could hear his sobs. "Somehow Dom...a cat doesn't quite cut it."

"...I understand." Dom said quietly " I'm sorry I upset you so much."

"It's okay. I know you miss him too." Sean Sighed. "Do you know why I chose him? Out of all the others."

"Silver?...No I don't."

"He reminds me of him." Sean said happily. I knew the tears had stopped. "I looked into his eyes and saw James."
