Chapter 5
Alphard's temporary home was a nice cabin with sea water near it in case he wanted to swim. Baxley pulled his cloak tighter against the warm wind that blew and walked up to the door with the shark. He looked the tall shark over, smiling malevolently. Alphard opened the door and let the fox in first and followed, shutting the door behind them and locking it. Baxley's tail twitched as he heard the locks click.
"You can put your cloak and harness in the closet in the hall", said the shark, gesturing to the closet door. "Do you eat fish?"
Baxley hung his cloak and harness up, swishing his tail side to side. "Si", barked the fox, turning to find Alphard standing over him. "Do you want me to cook it?"
"No, you need to look into that sack see if there is anything of value to us."
"And what if I don't", smiled Baxley, teasingly and leaning against the wall. "What are you going to do to me?"
Alphard grinned. "Do you really want to know, foxy?"
Baxley nodded.
"I'm already upset about our current situation and you want to stand here and play around. I'm full of stress and thoughts are plaguing my head about things that could happen. I could easily take advantage of you and leave you to die somewhere."
Baxley chuckled and crossed his arms over his chest, looking up at Alphard. "You really know nothing about me. I've been orphaned, I have a half-brother that is a winged panther, I'm a werewolf's slave, I've been raped by three men, I've been in wars, I have an Egyptian god as my half uncle, I've made deals with the devil and I've been experimented on. Do you honestly think you leaving me for death would faze me?"
The shark blinked and drew his sword. "Where did you learn your weapons skills?"
"During the time I was a mercenary."
"Okay, I can accept that", smiled the shark. "I'm gonna go cook the fish and we'll talk more, maybe you could show me some stuff tonight."
Baxley nodded and opened the sack, walked over to the table and dumped the contents of it out. He sifted through it, finding some gold coins, a few jewels and a piece of folded up paper. Baxley unfolded the paper and looked at how organized the writing was and how some stuff was written in code. The fox was actually impressed, but smirked since he understood all of it. "Whatcha got there, pup", asked Alphard, setting down a plate of fish in front of Baxley.
"I have the place and time of where a meeting will be held for the mercenaries", barked the fox, smelling the delicious aroma of fish. "Is this salmon?"
Alphard nodded sitting down. "So, where is this place?"
Baxley grinned. "In the middle east; Pakistan."
"Wait, in that hot ass place and you honestly want to go there just to get information", growled Alphard. Baxley nodded.
"No way, I 'aint going anywhere near that place. Why can't they have a meeting in a boat?"
Baxley took a bite of his fish. "Hey man, calm down for a second, if you don't want to go then don't go."
"Ha and miss out on some action....you know what, fuck you heat. I can take you."
"Also, it's not like we'll be walking to the base. I can make a few arrangements to get a jeep or helicopter", barked Baxley, getting up and putting his plate in the sink. "I'm good at getting what I want."
"I bet you are foxy", said the shark coming up behind Baxley. "I also bet that you have somewhat of an idea of what I want."
Baxley grinned, turned and looked the shark over. Alphard was wearing loose clothing, good running shoes, a loose t-shirt, and sweatpants. The fox licked his lips and leaned back on the counter. "You have some kind of race planned", asked Baxley, swishing his tail. "Because then that wouldn't be fair to you."
Alphard chuckled. "I beg to differ."
"No, I do the begging around here." Baxley got on his knees and looked up at the shark with puppy-like eyes. "Oh, please master don't punish me."
"I will have you any way I want you."
Baxley got up and smirked walking to the closet where his cloak was. "We'll see about that."
"We should also be careful in case some mercenaries try to ruin our fun", growled Alphard, stroking Baxley's back. "We'll be running through the forest to the stream."
Baxley nodded and followed the great white shark out of the cabin. He surveyed the area and smirked. "Are you sure you want to do this sharky?"
"Don't think you will win, foxy, because we can go back inside and get to business right now", chuckled Alphard.
Baxley got in a ready and shook his head. "Oh, I'll win this."
The shark counted to three and then they were off. Baxley took an early lead and climbed a tree. He started jumping from branch-to-branch. Alphard caught up quick, vaulting over fallen tree trunks and flipping over stones. He was quick, Baxley admitted, but he could beat him. Baxley was moving fluently through the thick forest as if in a dance. He loved the coolness of the night air as it began to get dark. This would help him in his advantage of night-vision abilities. Do sharks have night-vision, thought Baxley. The fox could see the shimmer of the stream as the moonlight hit it and hear the rushing water. Baxley jumped down from the tree and proceeded to jog the rest of the way, seeing no tail or claw of Alphard. He smirked and stood beside the stream, waiting. "Where the heck is that damned shark", muttered the fox.
"Damn you're fast, foxy", breathed Alphard coming through some bushes. "Well, it looks as if you beat me; what do you want to do?"
Baxley grinned malevolently. "I have a few things in mind; we could go back to the cabin and talk about our likes in a certain situation or we could have a sparring match out here."
"It's all up to you, though I do suggest that both would work also", growled the shark, looking at Baxley with interest. "I'm kinda used to being in control of any situation, sorry."
Baxley smiled. "Alright, how about we spar real quick then head back home."
Alphard nodded and went over to a pile of rock, pulling out a sword. Baxley looked at the shark wide-eyed. "You keep hidden weapons out here!"
"Yeah, this may be a temp house but I'm always prepared, besides some mercs might try to get the one up on us while we're sleep", replied the shark.
Baxley nodded and pulled a dagger from behind his back. "I keep one in a waist belt in case I lose my primary."
The shark nodded and unsheathed the sword, twirling it before bowing to the fox. The fox bowed in return and then charged the shark, which was a little unlike his normal technique when facing a stronger adversary. Alphard blocked the strike and broke Baxley's attack to form his own. Baxley, quickly ducked, dodged, and weaved the swings from the shark's blade. He blocked Alphard's powerful strikes and kicked the shark's knee. Baxley spin kicked the shark's chest and followed up with a punch to the gut. Alphard slashed with his sword and cut Baxley's arm, drawing blood and then shoved the fox against a tree.
"Having fun, pup", breathed the shark.
"Never better", hissed the fox. "I didn't think your only fighting style was brute force?"
"What, who ever said that was a liar; I use my opponents weakness to my advantage and since you are smaller I can manipulate you easier."
"So you say." Baxley ducked and slipped through the shark's legs and grabbed his tail. "This tail of yours is very sensitive, since we are speaking of weaknesses."
Baxley opened his muzzle bit Alphard's tail, making him roar in rage and pain. The fox rolled and got up, heading for the nearest tree. Alphard beat him to it and grabbed Baxley by the scruff of his neck and threw him into the stream. Baxley splashed and was glad there wasn't many rocks beneath the surface. "Mmmmmm wet foxy, just how I like them", grinned Alphard, thrusting his sword towards Baxley, but missed.
"Ha", laughed the fox. "Try and get me now."
Baxley tried to move but couldn't. The sword had trapped him in the stream. Alphard stood, pleased and patted the fox's head. "I win, foxy", he said.
Baxley sighed. "Alright for now you win, but later I will get you."
The shark let the fox free and they walked back to the cabin together. "So, I recall that you like being in control", smiled Baxley as he undressed. "What is it that you like being in control of?"
"A lot of things, my fights, my choices, and even who I choose to be with, which if these mercs win then some of those things will be taken from me", said Alphard, laying on the double in pajama pants with no shirt.
"And what would you like to do if those things were about to be taken away from you, now", asked the fox settling in beside the shark.
"I would love to be a leader of my own group, I would love to fight the man who started this, and I guess I would like to..... take you out on a date."
Baxley blushed. "R-really, you would like to take me out?"
"Yeah, you seem like a pretty nice guy and I would like to get to know you better, beyond all the thievery, such as your likes and interests."
"Oh, well I could tell you some right now if you like?"
Alphard nodded.
"Okay, I like to play guitar, I like multiple music genres, I like art and the art of combat, I love to be rubbed on my back and I like the way my master is kind and gives me chances at things."
Alphard smiled and turned over, grabbing a book from under the bed. "Here, I want to give you this, consider it a present to our sharing, bonding, or whatever we are doing."
Baxley took the book and read the title. It was a book of all the greatest music artists of today. "Thank you Alphard."
"Ah don't mention it; I didn't want it anyway. Well goodnight." And with that they both went to sleep, awaiting the next journey in their adventure.
