PLEASE READ

OKAY! So before you read I must say that the scene with Garock is important if you read the last chapter of Two Worlds. Lots of ropes in this story are being tied so if you're a big Two Worlds fan than you'd know what's going on.

Also, again before you read, I like to say that Gateway is now reaching the middle section of the whole story and MY GOD I am super excited to reveal how it will all end.

YOU have seriously made this story come to life and I thank you for helping me become a better writer.

Gateway has gained A LOT of fans, more than I EVER THOUGHT I'd get. I know I'm not an amazing writer like Kyell Gold or Andres Cyanni Halden (MY TWO FAVORITE FURRY WRITERS!) but because of your love of the Two Worlds Universe... I ... feel as special as they are special to me.

I even hope they see this story sometimes, but hey, that day will come when it does.

RIGHT NOW? I give you this... the next chapter of Gateway. I wrote this early for you! I also want to give you my love for being such an amazing reader. Thank you. <3

The soft golden glow illuminating from the window above the bed shown into his face, causing his senses to bring him out of the blackened world he floated in and into reality with a stinging sensation shooting up and down his arm. He grunted softly, tilting his head to the side a little to find a way to bury his closed eyes into darkness. But everywhere he turned it seemed the light still found its way to creep around him until finally, with much discontent, he opened one eye a little and slowly sat up on the bed.

The air around him was thick, hard to breath and especially irritating now as he suddenly forced a cough to open his airway. Though, he soon regretted that after his arm shot another wave of pain through his aching body. He cursed harshly under his breath and lifted his head up groggily, finding trouble in that movement as his entire head felt like it was filled with a ball of wet cotton. The room he was in now wasn't the same one he remembered before he fainted, this room was just a small one with cement flooring and a bed in which he was laying on. No, this wasn't Clarissa's room at all. This was his room.

He was back at the base.

"Ahh, you're awake."

Demetrius turned his head to the door, seeing the General standing in the doorway with his arms crossed and his facial expression stern as a rock. The likeliness of him being mad was high, Brook normally gave off a vibe when he was mad or irritated and Demetrius could sense it purely. Despite his grogginess, the Husky focused his attention on not acting as if he was in pain so he could avoid a talk. Though, if Demetrius woke up here than instead of Clarissa's apartment, then he suspected that Brook might already know.

"How'd I get here?" He asked first, his eyes leaving the Horse's and his hand coming up to rub the sore wound on his forearm. It was bandaged up now; the scent of a healing herb plastered around the cut hit his nostrils almost immediately.

"Not important." He grumbled, his eyes darkening a little, "What the hell were you doing out there, Demetrius?"

"I was patrolling." He responded quickly but he knew the General was catching onto him like a fly on food. Brook sighed heavily in frustration as if he brushed off the simple lie the Husky just told him and walked further into the small quarters.

"Patrolling doesn't usually involve sleeping on the job in a random Human's apartment."

Crap, he knows. Demetrius shifted himself off the bed and stood, though the light from the window now hit his eyes fully now and his arm literally killed him with a searing pain. He couldn't help but groan in annoyance from both, "Brook--!"

"And how did you wound yourself that bad? Take a little fall?" He cut the Husky off harshly, his pointed ears now falling to the sides a little as a sign weakness.

"Sir, it's not what it looks like..." He spoke softly in desperation, trying to come up with the best possible solution to this so he wouldn't be buried deep in the unfortunate mess he was in.

"Then how does it really look Demetrius? Because, right now, it tells me you went against my orders." Brook raised his voice and the Husky growled a little, not liking the fact that he was on the bad end of the accusing stick.

"I didn't go against your order." He responded, but Brook seemed to know he'd say that.

"My orders were to stay away from the Humans. Especially the boy! You know how crucial that rule is Demetrius! Your job is to just protect the Gateway, not go off and fraternise their lifestyle! "

"I wasn't even near the boy, Brook!" He barked back, "I just did a little investigating inside that apartment."

"And what were you investigating, Demetrius?" He asked angrily, his tone never changing.

Demetrius really couldn't answer that question properly. He was honestly there to find out information on Kevin's girlfriend out of pure jealousy. And because of that bad judgement, Demetrius endangered not only himself, but Kevin and his son.

"To be sure no Eternal soldiers were lurking around," He pointed to his arm, "And clearly, there was! I just saved your Gateway; you should be happy right now!" Brook stopped talking so he could think for a few seconds. What Demetrius said could have been true, and yes, he technically did his job on protecting the Gateway if there was an attacker, but what made him go to the apartment in the first place? Brook couldn't help but feel the Husky wasn't telling him everything; he has been caught for talking to the Human's before so the trust in his best warrior was already fading away.

Brook growled and pointed his finger to the Husky, "No more patrolling alone. From now on I want everyone to have a partner, and that's an order." He turned to the door and started to walk out. But before he could close the door behind him, he stopped and looked over his shoulder, "Oh, and Demetrius," He started slowly. "If I find out you went against my orders, you know what I'll be forced to do. Don't make me do what I don't want to, you're my best soldier. I wouldn't want to lose that."

He closed the door and left the Husky alone in silence. Those words Brook said to him replayed in his head a few times, knowing fully well what he meant by 'forced'. Going against a General's orders was considered a crime in Arella, and if Brook does find out he talked to Kevin, than Demetrius would be faced with the capital punishment.

He'd be hung to death.

Nothing comes to great satisfaction to Garock than a plan coming together. He knew King Malik would be preparing for the war on the Human world, sending all resources and weaponry to their soldiers through their Gateway and prepping them for the battle to come in a matter of days. Garock was in a happy mood, naturally when things went according to plan it normally did. Planning for a revolution was one of the exciting highlights in Garock's life, he would be proud to hang that future accomplishment on his wall with a few Human heads as trophies. Now, while that highlight was soon to come, Garock's bucket list full of accomplishments was almost complete.

His first accomplished goal on his bucket list was the creation of the Eternal Rebellion. Since the mysterious discovery of the Human world years ago, only two sides of the subject had been created in the Anthro world in what decided their feelings towards the new alien species. Both sides were either Pro-Human or Anti-Human. Since the great discovery, many Anthro's have chosen sides on how they felt on the Human species, the Pro-Human side--to Garock--wasn't really looking at the true aspect of what the Human race was doing wrong. The Humans were disgusting, their ways of government and daily activities were strange to the Anthro's, there was no control, no discipline, and most importantly, no morality.

Now, the Anthro species didn't really do anything about the Humans, aside the fact of studying their species. Crossing into their world was impossible. There was no Gateway to cross, and it was inevitable to even attempt to do so. All they had was a window in an undisclosed location inside the castle of Arella that would observe the Humans, a tear in the air that divided both Anthro and Human worlds. How this tear in the universe became to be known was a mystery to all in the Anthro world. Many thought it was sorcery or witchcraft; others took a religious view and said that the Gods were showing a sign of some sort. Others cried out it was a look into the future, a gaze of what is to come. All possibilities, but none was simply proven. The scar that separated the two universes was eventually--in time--called the Window.

Then, after the discovery of the Window, everything changed when a Human boy crossed into the Anthro world.

That was what caught everyone's attention in the Anthro world--especially the Saber. How one boy managed to enter through the Window so many years ago was now the biggest interest for Garock at the time that he became obsessed with trying to find out. Especially when it was a Human who possessed such power. This boy was a chosen one, the Key to crossing Two Worlds. The Saber had to know how he did it, but nothing could be figured out. Garock eventually started to follow the Human in Arella, soon after the following turned to stalking.

The boy was special. A Human! Such atrocity was not acceptable to Garock, why was it okay for a Human to cross into another world and not an Anthro? Well... That wasn't true.

Demetrius Crawford, a knight--a nobody!--managed to do it as well.

How?!

By blood! That was the key into crossing Two Worlds! A mix of Human and Anthro blood together created the Gateway to enter the Human realm. How the boy managed to cross into the Anthro realm without a drop of Anthro blood was another mystery and quite frankly, Garock couldn't care for the reason. All he focused on was the key, and that key was Kevin.

Once the boy died in the Anthro world many years ago, his body was left behind at the Eternal Lake. Garock took the chance to investigate the boy's body while Demetrius Crawford was taken away by his friends to be treated for the lake water's electricity effect.

Demetrius never returned to Kevin's body until the net day, which was enough time for Garock to take that chance to be alone with him. Lifting the Human's pant leg half way up and using his claws to dig into the exposed flesh, Kevin's blood was on his claws. The Saber then drove them into his own flesh and immediately felt the surge go through his veins.

He now unlocked the secret into the Human world.

The Eternal Lake was the spot he made his discovery into the next world. And it is this very spot Garock stands now that he created the Rebellion. Kevin's body was lost into the Eternal lake's waters now, which made perfect sense to the Saber that his base of operations for the Rebellion would be here on the very spot he accomplished his goal in finding a way into the Human world.

Forming the Anti-Human's Rebellion group in Arella was easy, scream loud enough and someone will here you. Unfortunately for that tactic though if someone hears you, chances are rumors will spread to the Pro-Human's. And it did: King Malik Basilik caught wind of it and started to retaliate by forming the Pro-Human army. Now, Garock had an army--granted not a big one--but that didn't matter. He didn't need a big army to win over the Human species--yet.

He had a much bigger plan in store, one that the Pro-Human's group haven't suspected yet. That thought made Garock's smile form into a toothy grin, turning away from his view of the Eternal Lake and back at the soldiers walking around the Rebellion base of operations. His soldiers! The Eternal Revolution was close, Garock made sure he paid child orphan messengers in the Kingdom of Arella to spread the word to everyone.

All that was left now was for Humphrey to finish the final step of Garock's plan. And he made sure that it was an easy step for him to complete.

Find the enemy Gateway, and destroy it.

Kevin groaned after finishing another chapter of his novel, his frustration at this point was extremely high and sensitive that it made him want to throw furniture out the window and scream. Not because of his novel, no that was going just fine, but it was when he returned back to Clarissa's apartment to see if Demetrius was awake and only find an empty bedroom. He was gone, which either told Kevin that he woke up and left or Kevin's still crazy!

Wonderful!

On another side of Kevin, probably in the back of his head, he suddenly felt a pang of guilt that was nagging at him repeatedly. Kevin said some harsh things to the Husky during their whole conversation and just finally telling the Husky that he moved on was probably one of the most insulting things he could say to someone who once loved him--still does! But who could blame Kevin for finally letting out ten years of bottled up emotions? He finally got a chance to tell Demetrius that he was happy after so long, Kevin should have been feeling happy about it!

But he wasn't happy, that would be a lie from deep down inside his heart. Why wasn't he happy? Shouldn't he be happy that he found another person to love now that he lost two people in his life? It would be different if Demetrius was just an imaginary character he created as a young sixteen year old but now that he's back and completely physically real it changes everything. Everything Kevin was led to believe about Demetrius and the Kingdom of Arella was now backfired into his face like a baseball bat being swatted between his eyes.

The sheer weight of stress was pressing further down on his shoulders so much that he wanted to just trade lives with someone for a day. This wasn't something he wanted to be thinking about and if he had the choice, he would leave Demetrius in the past and raise Skylar alone with his new girlfriend Clarissa.

But did he really want to do that? Forget about Demetrius?

"Arghhh!" Kevin shoved his face into his palms and tried focusing on something else, hearing the soft sounds of the TV in the next room. Clarissa and Skylar were out running some errands for dinner tonight and she felt she would give her boyfriend some time alone to do work on his novel. That made him happy, he needed the alone time to think about everything that was happening. Though, now it just frustrated him even more.

After going back to working on the next chapter of his novel, the apartment's door buzzer rang through the entire apartment. Confused, Kevin left his work space and answered the call by pressing the speaker button that was connected to the outside front door. "Hello?"

A few seconds and a voice responded, making Kevin clench every muscle after hearing it. "Kevin." Kevin groaned and put his forehead to the wall, it was Dr. Ada, his childhood therapist, "Would you let me in?"

Why was she here? Therapists shouldn't normally come to their patient's apartment should they? Well, Kevin was no longer a patient but the awkwardness was still lingering in the air around him. He actually forgot all about Dr. Ada's visit to New York, but now that she was here he'd have no choice to let her in. He couldn't be rude and tell her to go away could he? But, how did she know Kevin's apartment building? And how did she know what room to buzz?

Kevin hit the 'Open' button to the front door and allowed Dr. Ada to take the elevator up to his floor. This was going to be interesting...

"Kevin," She smiled once he opened the door and immediately noticed her business outfit, a black blouse with a matching top and extremely heavy jacket that perfectly evened out her old petit body. Though, the jacket she wore seemed a little baggier around her torso. Her voice still sounded like nails against a chalkboard to him, "It's good to see you again."

Kevin did what he only knew how to in an awkward meeting: smile and hope to god they don't talk long, "Dr. Ada, please come in, make yourself at home."

She stepped into the apartment calmly and confidently, not removing her jacket. Her eyes scanned and observed the room, just like how Kevin remembered her from ten years ago. Once he shut the door and watched her examine Kevin's apartment cautiously, she turned and faced him with the same smile, "You have a nice place, Kevin. How are you able to afford such a remarkable apartment on a single parent salary?"

Ouch? Just smile, "My wife's family had been very generous during the years following after her death."

She nodded and sensed how touchy that subject was to Kevin, immediately switching to a different topic, "And how is your journalism career going? I happened to find an article in the paper when I arrived. You wrote about the crime that's been happening here."

Kevin nodded and cleared his throat, entering the kitchen and taking out two mugs, "Coffee?" She nodded and he turned on the Kettle. "I actually love my job; writing is something I'm very good at so it eventually became something more. Now I'm being paid to write."

She was satisfied of Kevin's answer and settled herself on the opposite side of the counter, leaning her arms against the surface, "Have you been taking the time to write a novel like I suggested?"

"Yes, I have. And so far it's has been helping. Just getting all those imaginary thoughts out of my head and onto paper has made a big impact." Now that everything he's been writing about was actually real, it hasn't helped at all.

She nodded again, "Still dreaming about...?"

"No, not at all." That was a lie, but Kevin didn't really want to indulge in that subject anymore. "So what brings you to New York?"

"Business," She replied simply, "And how has your son been doing?" She smiled as if his question had never been asked; suddenly Kevin felt something shift in his creepy meter. For some reason this felt like an interrogation more than a friendly visit.

"Good." He responded slowly. "He's been doing very well in school. He loves to draw. Very friendly." Kevin treated this as if he was in a therapy session again, being cautious of his words now.

"He likes to draw?" She asked, "Are there any pictures I could see? I'd love to see them." She smiled awkwardly again and Kevin was frozen to the spot for a few seconds before moving to Skylar's bedroom to retrieve a couple papers, putting them in front of her.

"Yeah, he loves to draw me and Clarissa and him." Kevin said slowly, watching her examine and study the pictures closely.

"A dog, too. Do you have any pets, Kevin?" She asked, peeking up from the papers a little.

"No. No animals allowed in the apartment. Though I'm getting the sense he wants one. He loves Husky dogs." He responded.

She shuffled through the pages a little more and her eyes widened a little for a second before she cleared her throat.

"Hmm." After what seemed like an eternity, she took a breath and grabbed her phone, looking at the notification, "Oh, Kevin unfortunately I have to leave really early. I'm being called to be with a patient who has been marked immediate. I'd love to keep in contact and see how you're doing, so I'll give you another call sometime before I leave this weekend." She lifted herself up and showed herself to the door.

Kevin was confused by the sudden rush to leave, "Uhh, no worries."

"Good luck on your book, dear!"

When she closed the door, the kettle began to whistle. Her coffee was ready.

Dr. Ada left the apartment in a hurry, she would admit that, but she had to be haste. If she wasn't on a time line she would have stayed longer for the coffee Kevin was preparing for them both, but things--for her--never worked out that easily. Once she was a few kilometres away from Kevin's apartment view, she took out a small piece of paper with a small map of the area on it. Her destination was just around the corner, into an alleyway.

When she turned the corner, her eyes immediately saw the cloaked man standing down the cement pathway. Her stomach tightened, she knew this was the man she was supposed to meet. Walking towards him suddenly felt like it was a huge effort, as if her legs were being pressed further down to the ground so walking would be a dramatic exercise for her. Her hands began to shake, her teeth clenched tightly so they wouldn't clatter with her hands.

Once she was standing before the man, who was facing the other way from her, she spoke quickly, "It's true!" She blurted, her teeth clattering now, "The boy can see him too. They both can! Now let me go! We had a deal!"

The man stood for a few seconds in silence before turning to face Dr. Ada. She almost wanted to scream at the sight of the Fennec, but that option would attract attention and she would be dead within seconds.

"And you are positive of this?" Felix spoke slowly, his cloak catching in the wind.

Dr. Ada nodded quickly, "I'd stake my life on it!" She sobbed, "Now please, let me go!" She opened the jacket she had on and revealed a glowing purple vice that was wrapped around her torso. Garock's power was remarkable, even being in a different world, he could still cast a dark magic. The purple vice was tightly attached to her upper body and was ready to snap shut if Dr. Ada never did what she was told accordingly by the Eternal Rebels. Her job was simple: Prove that the Human they called Kevin and his son could see Demetrius Crawford.

"And what is your proof?" Felix asked, not moving from his spot.

"Kevin called me a while back. He said he'd been dreaming about a Husky man. His son, he's been drawing pictures of animals. Animals with human features! What makes it more promising is that it's a Husky-man! All the signs are there! I did what you asked! I proved that they can see your kind! Now let me go! Please!" She sobbed and felt her knees go numb, letting them collapse from under her.

Felix smiled and knelt down beside her old, sobbing body, "You did well, Cathleen." He said smoothly, his eyes a soft red color now as he brought his paws up to caress the soft cheeks of Dr. Ada's face, "You're no longer needed, now."

With that, Felix spun her face to the side and heard a few deep crunches in her spine, her body toppling over.

The Fennec vanished before her body hit the ground...
