He had travelled for many days and nights, trekked through harsh conditions, slain many monsters, and had climbed the tallest mountain in the land. But, he had nearly reached his goal. He could rescue the princess, the fairest maiden in the land, and finally be knighted by the king to become a part of his elite guard. His story would be told for generations and become that of legend.

"But enough day dreaming, it was time for the final battle" the traveller thought as he reached the mountain summit.

As he approached the highest peak he could hear the faint cries of a female and a roaring in the distance.

"Blast, I may be too late!" he shouted

The traveller hastened his journey to the peak. He quietly drew his sword, hoping to have the element of surprise on his side. Once he spotted two figures in the mist he took two deep breaths and charged in.

"HAVE AT THEE BEAST" he roared, sword in hand.

The traveller charged in screaming, but stopped in his tracks at what he witnessed. The roars had not come from some foul beast, but from the princess herself. The cries came from a female creature, of what he assumed to be a dragon, who seemed to be writhing in pain.

"HOW DARE YOU BE CHAINED TO THIS MOUNTAIN IN MY PRESENCE, YOU DO NOT DESERVE TO BE BREATHING THE SAME AIR AS ME" The princess roared.

The princess was screaming various curse words at the dragoness. The dragoness was trying her best to escape but her bonds would not yield.

"What have I done to deserve being kidnapped with such a witch" she moaned

"WITCH, HA, A WITCH HAS MORE USE IN THIS WORLD THAN YOUR PATHETIC AND PUTRID KIND"

"uhhhhhhh"

The dragoness moaned as the princess continued to barrage her with insults. It was at the point the traveller dropped his sword in shock that she noticed him.

"Oh traveller, please I beg of you, kill me so I do not have to endure this monster any longer" she begged, with a look of despair in her eyes.

"MONSTER THAT'S RICH COMING FROM SUCH A SHIT STAIN OF A BEING" The princess looked at the traveller "WHAT ARE YOU, SOME KIND OF WORTHLESS PEASENT, A PRINCESS SHOULD ONLY BE SAVED BY A KNIGHT, NOT YOUR WORTHLESS KIND"

The traveller was taken aback by the insult. These foul women certainly didn't sound like the beautiful and kind princess he heard about. He approached the princess and tried to cut her bonds, only to be kicked in the crotch.

"Oww, what the hell" The traveller bent down in agony.

"DON'T TOUCH YOU PEASENT, ONLY THE STRONGEST MOST HANDSOME KNIGHT IN THE LAND MAY GRACE MY PRESENCE"

"Dammit, I'm trying to rescue you"

"RESCUE, HA, YOU COUND'T RESCUE A CAT FROM A BARREL"

His patience was wearing thin. It was quickly becoming clear why no knight or warrior had attempted to rescue this "princess". Her mouth would drive off even the most resolute of heroes. He could not believe he had risked his life to save this horrible creature. He tried to cut her bonds once again, only for the princess to spit in his face.

"I SAID DON'T COME NEAR ME YOU WORTHLESS CREATURE"

The traveller began shake with rage; had he not been the noble being he was, he would have stabbed her. If he were to rescue this woman he would be honour bound to marry her. The thought of spending his life with her made him shudder. He turned to look at the dragoness, who stared at him with pleading eyes.

"Please brave warrior, kill me" She begged, tears welling up in her eyes.

The warrior raised his sword and the dragoness closed her eyes, waiting for the killing both. Instead, he struck the bonds that tied her to the mountain. He lifted the dragoness onto his should and began to make his way back down the mountain.

"What are doing?" the dragoness asked, confused

"Saving you"

"But why?"

"Because you're the real princess here as far as I'm concerned, not that monster"

As he made his way back down the mountain he could hear the "princess" cries in the distance.

"WHERE DO YOU THINK YOU'RE GOING, COME BACK HERE THIS INSTANT, I'LL HAVE YOUR HEAD FOR THIS YOU TRAITOR"

However he paid no attention and her cries quickly became faded away as he left the summit.

The traveller made hast down the mountain.

"Whatever evil being had kidnapped that princess, they are welcome to keep her" he thought.

"What should I call my saviour?" the dragoness asked

"Just call me Dan"

Dan carried the dragoness down the mountain and back out the other side. He had refused to put her down, despite the dragoness' repeated attempts to tell him she was capable of walking. It wasn't until they had reached the base of the mountain, and found cave that Dan had finally put the dragoness down, almost collapsing in exhaustion. He sat down at the cave's edge, the dragoness sat down beside him.

"You wouldn't happen to be a princess of some foreign kingdom would you?" he asked.

"I'm afraid not"

"Heh, didn't think so" Dan sighed, the whole journey had been a waste. "Why were you tied up on the mountain summit?"

"Torture, the being who had kidnapped the prince...monster had tied up there with her for his amusement" The dragoness sat down " I wish he could have just killed me"

"I can imagine, well at least I freed someone from a horrible monsters grasp"

They both laughed. Dan gathered some supplies he had in his sack and started a small fire. He took out a small loaf of hard bread and handed half to the dragoness.

"I'm sorry; I don't have anything else at the moment"

"No it is fine, I appreciate your kindness, thank you"

They ate the little food they had in silence. Her curiosity perked, the dragoness spoke up.

"Forgive if I'm intruding, but are you a knight?"

Dan sighed "No, as you've probably guessed by now"

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to insult you"

"No it's fine, I'm not a knight, but I hoped going on this quest would have allowed me to become one, sorry I shouldn't bore you with my stories"

"No please continue, I'm very intrigued"

"Well"

Dan told the dragoness the story of his life so far. He was born to a very poor woman who lived in one of the slums by the castle. Life was tough and every day was a struggle. She would tell him how his father was a knight and went on numerous grand adventures, unfortunately dying while trying to slay an evil wizard. Because of those stories he made it his dream to become a knight for the king. At first he did to honour his father's memory and give his mother a better life. However, it turned out that while his father was a knight he was also a despicable man who had cast his mother aside once it was clear she would have his child.

"I wanted to make him pay, dispense justice for his treatment of my mother and me" Dan tossed a bit of bread into the fire. "But I was never allowed to join the knights, only those close to the king could".

"But you didn't give up?"

"No, never," Dan looked at the stars in the night sky "When the princess was kidnapped, no other knight would even attempt to save her"

"I thought this was my chance to show the king I was worthy of becoming a knight, so I journeyed to this mountain and, well, you know the rest"

The dragoness looked at Dan with a sorrowful look. To have your dreams shattered is something no being should experience.

"What will you do now?" The dragoness asked, with a little concern in her voice

"I have no idea, I can't go back to the castle empty handed, I'd be a laughing stock for the rest of my life" Dan looked out onto the horizon "I guess I'm on my own from now on".

The dragoness moved closer to Dan "Do you not have a partner to go home to?"

"No, I kind of hoped becoming a knight would allow me to find one"

"Hmm, maybe I can help you with that"

The dragoness took one of Dan's hands and put it on her right breast. Dan suddenly sprung to his feet and backed away.

"Wh...what are you doing!"

Sometime later

The archers raised their bows at the sight of the wizard who stood at the castle gates. The kind addressed him.

"What do you want foul being" The kind asked.

The wizard clapped his hands and the princess fell out of the air and in front of the castle.

"THAT HURT YOU OLD HAG"

"You can have that thing back, I cannot stand to be in its presence for another moment" The wizard disappeared in a puff of smoke leaving only his voice behind "I'd rather die that kidnap that foul wrench again"

The kind stared at the princess who was screaming various curse words at the castle.

"DON'T JUST STAND THEIR STARING YOU BUFFOOONS, UNTIE ME AND LET ME IN"

"Uhh, what should we do sir?" A knight asked the king

The kind sighed "Let her in" he said

As a knight went to retrieve the princess the king muttered under his breath "Damn, I hoped I would never have to see that spoiled brat again".
