F.F.A.R.S
Just a rather short story I did for a contest that is holding over here http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/4984304/
An interesting accident, this story is exactly 666 words long >v> WoOoOoOo... It is also my shortest story to date. I find myself itching badly to develop the characters more, but that would break away from the very short requirement and start another long term project.. damn my habits.
F.F.A.R.S
First Fall Reconnaissance Scouts, the most prestigious unit a scout could find themselves in. Kallia found herself rolling the thought around in her head as she stared out at the alien sunset, the first of her people to ever see the strange sea before her. It was another benefit to being a part of F.F.A.R.S, to explore new found realms and the worlds in them. The equine leaned back and watched the massive red sun falling over the horizon, tinting her tan fur with a rusty light and making her golden mane blaze with orange highlights that looked like fire. Her closest friend and partner sat beside her, the red light tinting his shining blue scales with a stunning glowing violet that accented his athletic frame perfectly. The heat from the red giant was too much for their leather scouting gear, they had to leave it off until night fell and the air cooled. They both drank in the sight of one another through the corner of their eyes, barely even seeing the extraordinary sunset that so very few people in all the realms would ever get the chance to see. The deeper feelings held deep inside, secret from one another as they both hoped and prayed that the other would confess similar feelings. The unspoken words hung between them like the ghost of a pleasant fragrance. There were subtle hints that they felt more for one another, but never a spoken word of it. Their hearts both pounded in their chests as it was becoming too much to bare, they needed to let it out and just shout how they felt from the roof tops. They both wished that armor and equipment wouldn't make it back on their bodies in the night. Finally the tension became too much and they both moved for one another at the same time, not caring about the entire new world around them.
It was over before either one even knew what happened, just a white column of flame that incinerated them both in an instant before they could finally let their love show to one another. High above them on another hill, two heavy built cat creatures stared at them with glowing yellow eyes. Both were wearing heavy blue robes that marked them as Bohrauk shaman, and the small group of mindless minions around them, each one of a different species as they stared with white eyes like zombies that had never been dead, and would never decay from their still living flesh.
The smaller of the two looked at his elder with a bit of a perplexed expression, "Was that not an excessive use of power? They were only two and they were unarmed. They never would have gotten to their gear before our minions were upon them."
"Don't be a fool," the elder Bohrauk growled, "There are two things you never under estimate. The first are F.F.A.R.S and the second is love. The first are the best guerrilla warriors you will ever find. They can extract themselves from just such a scrape as you wished to put them into, and pick off our minions and even us in blind combat. The second, is the most powerful emotion. Love can break the strongest will, or turn the weakest being into a powerful force to be reckoned with. Those two were in love, combining the two most dangerous things we can run across. They made a mistake and I made damned sure it was their last. Now all of you, get to building the portal, we have a week before this star collapses and these resources are lost. I'll call up the valuable minerals, you gather any useful plants and their seeds. Minions, check for powerful wildlife that can be turned to war beasts."
And thus, the story of the two silent lovers ended, on a strange world, beneath alien stars that just watched their story silently, letting them fade from existence without so much as a tear.
