Hay Planes, NSW, Australia, Earth
Mike shook his head as he looked at the damage done to the undercarriage of Stanley's Toyota Hilux. The kangaroo carcass he ran over had ripped through much of the underside damaging the linkage that made up the four wheel drive system and severing the drive shaft to the rear differential.
"Good thing we rocked up when we did, looks like you're going to need a tow" he said to Stanley as he slid out from under the car "the entire drive shaft is stuffed to buggery"
Stanley slammed his fist in to the driver's side door making a loud thump "God damn it, this vacation has been one disaster after another!" he cursed and gave the front wheel a kick "I should have gone to Miami or Hawaii instead of Australia"
"Well no sense crying over it now" Mike said pulling out a mobile phone from his pocket "I'll call the RAA to tow this to the nearest repair shop" he tapped a few keys and made the arraignments for the tow. It was a stroke of luck that the nearest town was Wagga Wagga and a few hours a truck arrived. It was a tow truck with an extendable flat bed for the car to sit and within a few minutes the car was loaded up and taken to Wagga Wagga, Mike turned to Stanley "we'll give you a lift to town; from there you can find a place to stay the night"
"Gee thanks man, I owe you big time for this" he replied with relief as picked up his bags and loaded them into the back seat, "by the way was that Kangaroo a female or a male?" he asked as he straightened his back.
"Phil can you see any pouch on that thing" Mike called out, a few seconds later he heard a voice called back, Mike realised that his friend was not a happy camper by the tone.
"No it's defiantly a big male I don't see or feel a pouch, by the way get your ass over here and help me move it off the road, the thing is really heavy and I can't drag it on my own" he called, it took Mike and Stanley a few minutes to find Phil struggling to pull the large dead roo from the road. The good thing was roo hadn't been dead long so much of its body was still intact and the threat of pieces of the body coming off was almost negligible. When the trio finally got the corps of the road Phil straightened up and shook his hands "damn, I need a bucket load of hand sanitizer now or a toilet with anti-bacterial soap" he looked up into the sky "hey what's that" he pointed to what looked like a meteor moving across the sky only it wasn't breaking up and seemed to be changing course.
Mike looked to where Phil was pointing and gasped seeing a huge fireball streak across the sky, 'what the bloody hell is that ' he thought until he spotted it change course one more time heading in their general direction "oh crap its coming down!" he yelled before jumping to avoid it. The fire ball slammed down in paddock, skidded along for as few meters before hitting something sending it air born long enough to clear the road then slammed down again and skidded to a stop in the opposite paddock. Mike got up and dusted himself off then looked around for Stanley and Phil "hey you guys ok?" he asked hoping they didn't get hit by the falling object, he was relieved when Phil and Stanley came running up.
"Where fine but that thing crashed in that paddock, it may be a plane or something" Phil replies before climbing over the fence "there could be people trapped inside we got to help them" within minutes he disappeared into the night.
"Phil wait up, it could be dangerous" Mike called back following suit, he knew that if it was a plane crash there would possibly be a fuel leak and quite possibly an explosive hazard 'damn you Phil if you get blown up your dad will kill me' he thought as he ran.
Stanley ran to the car and began to rummage through his bag till he found what he was looking for; he pulled out the small plastic carry case, set it down on the boot of the car and opened it. Inside was a satellite phone which he wasted no time to set up, he quickly punched in a number then waited for someone to pick up. "Hello Headquarters, its Agent Donavan we have a situation here" he said into the receiver, "code word Prometheus....yes two civilians both teenage kids....location of crash is Hay planes Australia lock onto my sat phone for GPS coordinates....roger that they will have full security clearance.....I'm unsure if the Australian defence force has tracked the crash, will continue with extreme caution.....keep you posted Donavan out" he packed the phone away but kept it active so the NSA could get the GPS coordinates, he then grabbed his side arm from his bags and followed the trail after Mike and Phil.
High orbit over the United States
"Admiral we have tracked the transmission to a country the humans of this world call the United States of America, analyses indicates it's not the rebel ship but it is being sent to a system in sector 937" the comms officer said as the Imperial strike cruiser Jericho moved into position.
"So these humans have ties to the Anthro's in that sector, a very formidable group and a good choice people to have an alliance with but like the others they will be crushed" Admiral Graham Constantine said looking over the comms officer's shoulder "have you pinpointed the exact location of the transmission?" he was replied with a slow shake and a reassurance he will continue to work on it.
"Admiral, how long can we stay here?" came a voice from behind him, he turned to see the captain of the Jericho standing in the centre of the bridge looking him dead in the eye "we are still damaged and we may be unable to defend ourselves if we are attacked again, I suggest we travel to a re-gen station and make repair..." he was cut off with a response from the Admiral
"And let the rebels escape? no we stay and take our chances" he turned back to the comms officer "find the source of the transmission quickly and let me know" he gave a nod the captain and walked out the door which closed like a heart valve behind him.
The captain sat down in his chair and looked out on the world before him on the main view screen. This ship, his ship was one of the most advanced war ships in the Imperial navy and he would be dammed if some lesser shadow of the Imperium would destroy her after all the Human Imperium only found these marvellous living ships and were having trouble trying to 'build' more. 'I hope you know what you are doing' he thought as he picked up a data pad and ran through the ships duty rosters for the next shift. After a while he looked up from the pad, with an expression of purer thought he tapped his personal communicator "recon teams Delta and Sigma report to the shuttle bay, I need you for a special mission" he waited second before smiling at the response then left the bridge for the shuttle bay.
At that very moment on Earth
Mike had never imagined that he would be making first contact with an alien species and now the opportunity was right in front of him. 'man this ship is beautiful ' he thought to himself as he looked over what he could see, the ship looked like a cross between the Normandy SR-2 from the Mass Effect series and the Hyperion from the Starcraft series and even though Phil called it a heap of junk held together with duct tape, rubber bands and paper clips the ship was still a beautiful piece of alien engineering. Mike was about to get a little closer to the ship when he heard some footsteps coming up fast behind him and instinctively turned around to see Stanley run up, on his belt was a hand gun.
"Ok what's with the gun?" Mike asked looking very worried his eyes darting back and forth between the gun and Stanley; he was still doing it when Phil ran up from doing lap around the crash site trying to find a way in.
"Maybe I should reintroduce myself" Stanley replied "Special Agent Stanley Donavan, National Security Agency" he pulled out his wallet and showed his ID, "I've been instructed to give you full security clearance by my superiors"
"Ok now we have that sorted out what's our next move" Phil piped up after a moment of silence, he turned to the ship "I didn't see any entrance into the ship at all and well much of it is buried".
Mike didn't know what to believe at this point, not only was he about to make first contact but a man who he helped fix some of his car problems was an American spy. The whole series of events were doing his head in so he put it aside for the moment and approached the ships raised aft section dropping down into the ditch it had made on impact, the hull was still radiating heat but it wasn't as bad as before so he was able to get pretty close to have a good look. The ship seemed to be made out of a strange material that shimmered slightly but was not fluidic however this wasn't the thing that caught his eye, under a dislodged panel was what could only be described as an external computer terminal about the size of a one terabyte hard drive.
Instinctively Mike reached for the panel covering his hand with his jumper before doing so and prised it open to get a better look "hey I've found something" he called as he touched the terminal, suddenly the ship shuddered causing Mike to jump back almost falling on his backside. 'Ok not a smart idea' he thought as he crab walked backwards as fast as he could as the ships shuddering became more violent, on the underside of the stern several large panels started to open like a doors revealing landing struts that extended outward to the ground and within minutes the ship was standing instead of its bow firmly entrenched in the paddock with its ass in the air 'scratch that, not a dumb idea after all ' he thought as a what looked like a ramp into the cargo hold descended revealing several stacks of crates piled high wrapped in what looked to be shrink wrap.
"Not bad kid" Agent Donavan said helping Mike off the ground "ok I'll take point, you two bring up the rear" he pulled out his gun and flicked the safety off followed by a small LED flash light from his pocket then slowly made his way inside, Mike and Phil followed suet making sure not to fall behind too far.
The Trio hadn't gotten far into the ship when they were stopped by a body stuck under some fallen girders, he looked like a medical officer of some description but it was hard to tell. Donavan kneeled down and checked for vitals but was startled when the man groaned "quick help me with this" he said to Mike and Phil who quickly moved in, with a few grunts the three of them managed to lift the beam allowing the man to crawl out.
"Thanks for that" the man said clutching his side as he got up "by the way are you native to this world?" he looked over Mike and the others "and I take it only humans evolved on this world".
Mike nodded and was about to speak when Phil blurted out "holy crap he's human", he received a quick clip across the back of his head for that stupid comment, Donavan shook his head in embarrassment at the comment and almost face palmed himself as well.
With the comment out of the way Mike made the introductions then offered to help. "Well glad you're here to help and not to kill us, I'm Dr Harry Stanhope head physician of the Black Scythe rebels" he looked around before turning back to Mike with a look of utter fear "the others, they may be injured, we need to help them!" he turned and began to clamber back through the debris he was stuck under yelling back "follow me and hurry!" the three did so hoping they could reach them in time.
Jericho's bridge, High orbit over the USA
The door to the bridge opened as the Captain stormed in his eyes full of rage, Admiral Constantine turned to him and smiled "Ah Captain Marcus, just the man who I was looking for" he said with a happy chirp in his voice.
"Admiral, my I point out that this is my ship" he said looking the Admiral dead in the eye "not only am I allowed to send recon teams out to find a crash site but I can choose which to send out, not only do I find out my orders to recon teams Delta and Sigma have been changed but teams Alpha and Gamma have been sent in their place" he kept his composure as the expression on the Admirals face turned from happy to a look of distain "care to explain why my orders were countermanded?"
"Teams Alpha and Gamma are better suited for the job; besides no order on this ship made by you is no secret to me even if I wasn't consulted remember that" the Admiral said before beckoning him over to the gunnery station "you remember the signal that we detected?" he asked.
"Yes, the one being sent to sector 937" the Captain said, his expression turning to confusion at why he was asking him, it soon turned to horror when he saw that the Gunnery chief had locked in a targeting solution on the computer. "Wait you're not thinking of doing what I'm thinking you're about to do?" he asked panic welling up inside of him.
The Admiral nodded "yes I am, the signal came from this city but was terminated before we could get a solid lock on it" he turned and looked at the main view screen "so I intend to destroy the city".
"But the civilians that live down there, they will be killed, the planets military forces will find us and launch a counter attack!" the captain protested "they have nuclear capabilities!"
"Captain Andrew Theodor Marcus, may I remind you that in this situation these "humans" are affiliating with Anthros and more importantly an enemy of the Imperium. Even if it's a small number of them they are still affiliated with them and as stated in section 9 paragraph 3 of the Imperial Edict any civilian population of a planet that is affiliated with an Anthro in any way shape or form that have been designated as an enemy are expendable!" the captain yelled back, turning back to the gunnery officer he yelled "fire!"
The centre of the ship opened up as if it were a flower to the sun making a sort of star shape, in the middle of the star an orange ball of energy began to form steadily growing and changing in colour to form a massive yellow sphere of death. Within minutes the gun was at its maximum energy limit releasing the built up energy in a massive pulse blast, the pulse shot through the vacuum hitting the atmosphere with lightning speed. As if guided by a string the pulse sped toward its target like a juggernaut of supreme destruction till it found its mark, to many on the ground the first thing they saw was a massive golden beam land directly on the White house before a massive energy ball slammed into it causing the building to explode, the blast didn't stop there as a massive wave of fiery destructing began to radiate outwood as if it we a re-enactment of the movie Independence Day.
By the time the blast had run its cause the entire city of Washington DC was nothing more than a burning ruin, not a single building, statue or tree was left unscathed and anyone in the city was killed. On the bridge of the Jericho the captain just looked at the admiral with utter disgust before leaving the bridge, he had seen some atrocities in his time but this was the straw that broke the camel's back. As for the admiral he just stood in the centre of the bridge and revelled in the destruction he had orchestrated not knowing he set of a chain of events that would eventually end with his death and the rebels acquiring a few new allies.
