#1 of Dartmouth

A story about a teenage boy with a complex family history who moves with his mom, sister, and brother to the small (and fictionalized) town of Dartmouth, MA. He meets many people, and discovers a strange secret that the town wants to keep buried.

Author's Note: I would first like to say that The Drifter is not cancelled, I'm simply pursuing two projects at the same time. Secondly, I would like any and all feedback that you, the community, would like to give. I will also point out that this is entirely SFW, but it's about teens, so it would still be weird if you were sitting in your cubicle reading a story about teen love and angst and such. Even though I mentioned love and such, that isn't the main theme of this tale, it is more supernatural and mystery themed, yet not incredibly scary. In essence it is my own modern Lovecraft tale. Now the last item on the note, this is set in Dartmouth, Massachusetts, in the early 90s, but of course a fictionalized version of the town and time, since it's a furry story. So my fellow furs, please enjoy and give feedback through comments and ratings.

Dartmouth Part One: Just Moved In

"Well, here we are", I heard my mom say as she pulled the old station wagon into the driveway of the old colonial style house. I looked up at the old house, and while I might be excited to finally have my own room apart from my brother, I was still pissed about leaving the city. My mom had gone on and on about how the change would be good, and how she wanted to live away from the public eye, and other reasons that didn't matter to me. Well, elaborating on the public eye thing, my mom and dad were both well known. My mom is a writer, and she had several bestsellers that she released since she started. I never read any of it, it was all that middle-aged housewife romance crap. My dad, whom I only knew for about three years mixed in with other sparse visits, was scum. He had a perfectly woven story about being this big business man, who traveled all over the country and world for these big million dollar deals. So around the time I was ten, the whole lie came crashing down over his head. As it turns out, he was really involved in international drug and human trafficking organizations. He was arrested, place on trial, and found guilty. Luckily he lied to his family because it would've meant that my brother and sister and myself would all be in the foster system, and my mom behind bars as well. For six years, we lived in a slightly smaller apartment, and we were in the spotlight. If it wasn't my mom and her books, it was interviews with the family of a notorious crime kingpin. So, even though that sucked I still didn't want to leave Boston, my home. See, my friends don't judge, and neither did my brother's or sisters friends judge us, so none of us wanted to leave. Well, mom knows best I guess, so we packed up, and drove to Dartmouth, which is really small.

So aside from my messed up parents, there's me, my brother Josh, and my sister Alexandra, or Allie, or whatever she goes by. I myself am an ocelot, nice coat, weirdly long tail, and I look similar to my mom, who can be described practically the same way. My sister and brother are both more on the tiger side like my dad; in fact my sister looks almost identical except for the obvious things. My brother ended up as a weird mix of both, his coat is weird, and his face has the weirdest mix between the facial features of my parents, but I'm told it's rude to say that. I'm the oldest at sixteen, almost seventeen, Allie is the middle child at 15, and Josh is the youngest, being only 13. Now, I'm sure you can see the problem with being forced to move into a three bedroom apartment after being evicted from the luxury four bedroom apartment that you grew up in only because your scumbag father got arrested. As in any family, a teenage girl needs her space, so Allie got her own room while I had to share with my brother. Now, I finally get a room to myself again, a small victory.

After finally getting into the house, I notice that the movers had already handled moving in a lot of the big furniture before our arrival. I ran upstairs to my room, and saw that my bed and desk were already in place. I dropped my bags on the bed, and headed back downstairs to help move in more stuff. I carry in boxes for my room, and help my siblings with their boxes too. By five in the afternoon, the movers have left, and all the boxes are inside. The whole house looked surprisingly not like a house that someone had just moved into. It was getting on seven when my mom finally called out "Hey, who wants something to eat?". I heard my brother shout, "Let's get a pizza". "Pizza all right with everyone?", my mom asked. "Yeah", me and my sister replied. Twenty minutes later the pizza delivery man arrived and gave us our large sausage and mushroom pizza with extra cheese. The pizza came from a local Papa Gino's (Author's note: Real New England Pizza Chain) so it wasn't anything new, but still good.

After dinner I went upstairs to my room, and grabbed the book I was reading from the bag I had in the car. I had just cracked it open when something caught my eye. It was this strange glow from across the street. I put the book down and walked toward the window and saw a light on in the house across from ours. That was weird, because when I had first seen it on the way to our house, it had a for sale sign in the yard and seemed empty. I closed the curtains over the window and went back to my book. I read a couple chapters before I got bored and decided to go to sleep.

I had two days left in my school break for the summer, and I didn't even make the most of them. I read, watched TV, and listened to music. I had yet to find the box with all my video games in it, so my computer sat unused on the desk in my room. I wrote somethings as well, because I apparently have the same gift for writing as my mom does. Finally I went to bed ready for school to start the next day. I was sure that it would be awful, I was a Junior, I wasn't as young and eager to meet new people as my brother, and since my sister would be just starting High School, she would be able to meet new people easily. Oh well, guess my life just sucks that's all.
