Chapter 4: Strange Surroundings
Seth didn't get up until late the next day. The sun woke him up just as it was coming up over the horizon. Having no alarm clock, and more importantly no school to get ready for was one of the good thing about being stuck on some strange alien world. He still felt tiered, and he couldn't resist taking advantage of his new found freedom, so he folded his wing over his head, and went back to sleep. When he did finally wake up the sun had risen much higher in the sky. He took a guess, and figured it was about 9 or 10 in the morning, that is if this world had days that were 24 hours long.
He got up yawned, and stretched off his morning stiffness. He smacked his tongue against the top of his mouth, and it felt dry and sticky. He walked up to the top of his small rock island, and looked out at the mainland. His eyes widened as he saw two of the largest animals he had ever seen standing on the beach. Both of them were casually eating leaves from the trees, as he stared at them. They were easily over two hundred feet tall, but most of their height was in their long necks. They looked like giant reptilian giraffes, with the exception that they had short stubby, almost triangular looking tails. The bottom portions of their legs were covered in thick grey scales, which looked like armor plating. He could see that their backs and necks were covered with hundreds of green spikes, no doubt to protect against any air born predators. Their front legs were longer than their back legs, but each was as big around as a car.
He continued to stare at the two building size creatures as they slowly walked back into the jungle, eating as they went. He stopped staring as the last creature disappeared behind some trees.
He was now even more thirsty than he was before. He spread his wings and leapt from the edge of the cliff, and flew down to the beach. He stopped and looked around, but didn't see any other animals. He walked into the ocean, and helped himself to a long refreshing drink. When he was finished he realized the water was fresh, instead of being salty. 'It must be a lake instead of an ocean,' he thought to himself. Whatever it was he was glade he could drink it.
He stood there for a minuet thinking that there was something he should be doing, but couldn't remember what it was. He had to remind himself that he wasn't at home anymore, and that it didn't really matter. No matter how hard he tried he just couldn't get the thought out of his head. It still felt like he should be getting a shower right now and then have breakfast. 'At least I'm not hungry,' he thought to himself.
"Come to think of it what am I going to eat," he said out loud. He looked up and down the beach, but all he could see were a few small chicken size creatures chasing each other around in circles. Then he tuned towards the jungle, and looked up at the skyscraper size trees. He could hear all sorts of strange sounds coming from the jungle. Ranging from high pitch clicks to a low bass like rumbles. It looked so mysterious, and different, that he just couldn't resist exploring it. He quickly forgot about finding his next meal, and headed into the jungle.
He had to push his way through at first, but as he walked deeper into the jungle he started finding periodic open patches. The forest looked much like pictures of the rainforest he had seen on nature shows. The ground was covered with rotting leaves, and felt soft beneath his feet. He could see that many of the plants looked very much like plants from Earth. There were a lot of ferns, some of which were the regular size he knew, but some of them were well over 20 feet tall. As he made his way deeper into the jungle he noticed it was starting to get darker. He stopped, and looked up, and could just barely see the sun through the tops of the trees. He kept snagged his wings on the branches as he pushed his way through the thick vegetation, and he realized he would have to take it slow.
As the day dragged on he saw one new thing after another. One of the first things he wanted to do was get a closer look at one of those huge trees. He picked the one that was the closest, and started walking towards it. As he made his way closer he kept running into huge curving walls that were twice as tall as he was; blocking his path. He tried to walk around them at first, but as soon as he would find his way around one he would run into another one. It was like walking through a maze, and it was starting to piss him off.
"Fuck this," he said to himself. The frustration had finally gotten to him, and he decided to try walking on the top of them instead of walking around them. He tilted his head back to look at the top the nearest wall. It was almost completely vertical, and he could tell it wasn't going to be easy to climb. He doubted he could climb it but, he was going to give it a try anyways. He reached up, and grabbed hold with both of his clawed hands, and pulled himself part way up. He then sank one of his clawed feet in, and then the other. He had expected it to be almost impossible to climb, but he was hanging to the side of the wall almost effortlessly. He could feel the tendons in his toes flexing as his claws dug into the wall.
He looked up at the top of the wall, and started to climb. He made it to the top, and pulled himself up and over the edge. He got up onto his feet and looked around. He was still surrounded by shorter trees and leafy plants, but he could see that the wall twisted and turned its way right into the base of the giant skyscraper size tree.
As he looked down the top of the wall he realized it wasn't a wall after all, but was actually the trees roots. He looked down the length of the root towards the base of the tree, and it actually looked like a highway through the jungle. 'It's certainly wide enough,' he thought to himself.
He could see that the top of the highway wide root was completely covered with a thick green moss. It was also covered with a few leafy plants and some clinging vines, but for the most part it was mostly moss. He had never seen anything quite like it even on TV. He knelt down, and pressed his hand against the moss he was standing on. To his surprise he could bury his entire hand down into it before hitting the hard wood beneath. He pulled his hand out, and ran his hand over the top. 'It feels just like carpet', he thought to himself.
"Yeah 6 inch deep carpet," he said out loud. It looked so thick and comfortably that he just had to try laying down on it. He knelt down, and rolled over onto his back, and put his hands behind his head. He sat there for a minuet, and he had to admit that even though it felt very different, it was still incredibly comfortable.
He sat there for a while longer until he felt something crawling over his tail. He propped himself up onto his elbows, and could see that he was getting covered with bugs. As soon as he saw them he jumped up into the air, and started frantically brushing them off. He eventually got them all off, but he had to look himself over a few more times just to make sure. He cringed at the thought of being covered in bugs, and reminded himself not to do that again.
He tried not to think about being covered in bugs, as he looked down the top of the moss covered root. It felt like he was walking on carpet as he made his way towards the tree's trunk. He found that the root wasn't entirely straight like a road or highway. It twisted and turned suddenly as it grew around rocks, and over rises in the ground, splitting off in many different directions.
He walked past another split in the root, and stopped as he noticed something that looked out of place. It looked like a rock, but it looked odd among the thick green moss. He walked up to it, and could see a path had been carved through the moss right up to where the rock was. As he got closer he realized that it was some kind of strange looking turtle. It was the size and shape of a tortoise except it was covered in thorny spikes, but it didn't have a tail.
It must have heard, or felt him coming, because it had already pulled it's legs and head into it's shell. The parts of it's legs and head that were exposed, were covered with more spikes. He knelt down next to it and gave it a poke. As he expected it didn't move, but he did notice one thing that was odd. After he poked it he could see a greenish colored liquid beading up on the tips of the spikes. He gathered a drop of it on the tip of a claw, and gave it a stiff, and it smelled like vinegar. He figuring it was most likely a poison of some kind, so he wiped it off on the moss.
'That would be one tough thing to kill if those spikes are poisonous,' he thought to himself. He wanted to see what the rest of it looked like so he walked a ways away, and knelt down to wait for it to poke it's head out.
He waited longer than he wanted to, and was going to leave, but just as he stood up it started to move. He stood very still as he watched the turtle come out of it's shell. It's head came out first, and he had to admit it was one of the ugliest turtles he had ever seen. He kept watching as it's front legs came out, then it's rear legs, and then out came a sixth pair of legs. He stared at it, as it lifted itself up onto it's six segmented legs. He looked at it's spike covered head and realized it wasn't a turtle after all. Instead he realized it was a giant bug.
He wasn't sure why exactly, but he was beginning to feel very small. Maybe it was the giant skyscraper size trees or the giant bug or maybe both, he wasn't sure. But as he looked around he began to realize he was no longer at the top of the food chain. He also realized he hadn't been very careful on his little sight seeing adventure. Sure he hadn't seen any other predators yet, but that didn't mean there weren't any. He had been treating his trek through jungle like he were exploring the forest around his house.
He looked around quickly for any sigh of danger, but didn't see anything at first. The longer he looked the more he noticed the dark foreboding breaks in the vegetation that could easily hide a hungry predator. He looked into each dark hole, but he still didn't see anything, and gave a sigh or relief at not spotting anything. He turned his attention back to the giant bug, and watched as it went back to eating itself a path through the moss. 'This place it just full of surprises,' he thought to himself.
He managed to turn his attention away from the giant bug, and continued towards the base of the tree. It was definitely much easier walking on top of the roots, rather than walking around them. He made it to the base of the tree, and he could see that the tree was covered with so many vines and clinging plants that the tree itself was almost completely covered. As he leaned against the tree trunk, and as he looked up he could see areas of exposed grey bark. There were huge branches jutting out in all directions, but as he looked up he realized the foliage was so thick that he couldn't see the top.
The first branch was maybe a hundred feet up, and he started climbing. The climb was easier than he expected, and he quickly made his way onto the first branch. He could see the branch was as wide as the root he had just been walking on, and was also covered with the same thick green moss.
He started walking out towards the end of the huge branch. He made his way out until the branch went from being as wide as a two lane highway to only three or four feet across. He could see over the shorter vegetation in spots here and there. As he looked up towards the top of the canopy he realized the dense vegetation which covered the forest floor was replaced with large open spaces. The branches jutting out from the huge trees made it look like an obstacle course.
Seth stood there unable to stop staring at the seen around him. It was different on a scale like nothing he had ever seen before. He found himself getting lost in the worlds strange beauty. Everywhere he looked he saw something new. He could see leaves the size and shape of surf boards, and lots of strange looking flowers. He even saw a fat eight legged lizard run up the side of a neighboring branch, which he thought looked more like a giant gecko. He couldn't see the sun through the canape, but he could tell that it was late in the day. He knew he would never make it back to the ocean, before sun down if he were to walk back though the jungle.
As much as he was enjoying his scenic jungle tour he didn't really feel like climbing back down the tree, and walking back. His only other option was to fly through the maze of branches. There was a lot more open space at that height, but he still didn't feel confident that he could fly though it.
He gave one last look at the thick jungle below, and he remembered how slow and difficult it was to walk through, and he decided he would try to fly back. He spread his wings, took a deep breath, and leapt off the branch. He could see the first branch getting closer, as he flew through the maze of huge branches. He swerved around it just in time, as the tip of his wing hit against some leaves, which scared him half to death. He could feel his heart beating in his chest, as he made another sudden turn around a thick branch.
His flight out of the jungle didn't take long, and he glided down to the sandy beach as he flew out of the jungle. He could feel the last of his adrenalin rush starting to ware off as he walked down to the ocean for a much needed drink of water.
He started to smell something odd as he helped himself to a drink of water. He stopped and stiffed at the air, and it had an almost fruity smell to it. He wasn't feeling hungry, not like he had the other day, but he did feel a case of the munches coming on. He didn't see any fruit, so he started to followed the source of the smell with his nose, which lead him further down the beach. He was beginning to think he was imagining things, but the smell kept getting stronger the further he walked.
He was surprised when he eventual found the source of the fruity smell. He guessed he must have walked at least a mile, or more down the beach before finding it. What he found was a tree filled with yellow melon size fruit. He realized he shouldn't have been able to smell it from so far away. He let out a quiet chuckle as he realized it was one more benefit of his new body.
He turned his attention to the yellow fruit hanging from the tree. They were high up in the tree, and he started to climb up after the closest one he could find. The tree was a normal earth size tree, which made climbing it much easier. There were so many branches that it was more like climbing a ladder. The hardest part was keeping his wings from getting snagged on the branches.
He made it up to the first group of fruits, but they were to far out, on branches to thin to support his weight. He could see he would never reach the fruit, so he snapped off a long branch. Holding the trunk of the tree with one hand, he reached out with the stick, and wacked off a nearby fruit. He watched it fall to the ground, and bounce a few times, but it didn't break open. He then knocked two more fruit out of the tree.
He climbed down, and picked up the closest fruit. It had a yellow brownish color, and was about the size of a soccer ball. It had a smooth feel to it, and it was covered with large rounded bumps. He brought it up to his face, and gave it an experimental stiff. It had a strong smell, and it actually smelled like a banana mixed with something else.
He turned the thing over trying to figure out how to get it open. He tried to dig into it with his claws, but all he could do was scratch the hard surface. He kept scratching and digging at it, and he was getting frustrated that he couldn't get the thing open.
He could feel his claws starting to sink into it, then it popped out of his grip at the last second. He screamed in frustration, then picked it up, and threw it against the tree. It hit the tree with a loud cracking sound, and split in half. He looked down at the two halves, and felt like a complete dumb ass for not using his head it the first place.
He picked up one half, and examined the inside. The inside was bright yellow with a hollow center, and the inside looked just like any melon you might pick up at the grocery store. He gave it a lick, and it tasted like a banana, except it was a bit different. It didn't taste like a real banana, instead it tasted like the artificial flavor used in banana flavored candy.
Just the one fruit was big enough to make a meal of, and apparently something else thought the same thing. Seth could hear the sound of cracking branches as something big was making it's way through the forest. He could tell it was moving slow, and that it was a ways away, but it was definitely coming in his direction. He ran over and tried to picked up the other two fruit, but it was to awkward to hold everything at once. He tried holding the two halves, and two whole fruit against his arms and chest, but he decided against it. He threw the broken halves to the ground, and kept the two whole fruits, and turned towards the ocean.
He ran down the beach building up some speed, and leapt into the air just as he made it to the waters edge. He flew up higher into the sky with every beat of his powerful wings. He kept a firm grip on the two fruits, and turned back to get a look at the thing that was coming out of the forest. He flew as slowly as he could, as he watched a huge animal coming out from under the cover of the forest. It was grey, and looked like a bus size armadillo covered with spikes. He could tell it was reptilian, and it even reminded him of a dinosaur, but he couldn't remember it's name. He watched it lick the fruit a few times just before it ate it. It then turned, and ate the other half, then looked around for more. He watched as the creature quickly lost interest, and went back into the jungle.
He turned, and flew back to his new island home as the creature disappeared into the jungle. When he made it back he set the fruit down, and gave his new home a quick look over, just to make sure nothing else had climbed up while he was away, but he didn't find intruders. He then turned his attention back to the fruit. He sat down near the ledge looking out at the jungle across the water. He picked up a sharp rock, and used it to split one of the fruits in half. He then split each half in half, and threw the rock over the ledge, and watched it hit the water far below.
The sun hadn't hit the horizon yet, but it wouldn't be long before the sun would set once again. He took a piece of the fruit in one hand, and bit out the mass of seeds around the center, and spit it out. He leaned back, and took his first bit. It was very sweet and almost to juicy.
He chewed on it for awhile before realizing he wasn't chewing it like normal. It felt more like he was cutting it into smaller pieces than actually chewing. He swallowed the cut up pieces, and took another bit. He sat back, and slowly and methodically ate the rest of the piece of fruit.
He realized the teeth he would normally use to grind food with as a human had been replaced with rows of sharp cutting teeth. He realized he was still thinking like a human, and he was making more of a mess, rather than actually chewing.
"All right, and how does a reptile eat?" he asked himself as he looked at the piece of fruit in his hand. He had seen plenty of lager reptiles like crocodiles on nature shows to know they swallowed their food whole. 'Well its worth a try,' he thought to himself, and he took a big bit, and swallowed it.
He could feel it, as it went down his throat, and he ate the rest of the fruit the same way. To him it felt strange, and different to not chew his food. The more he thought about it the more he realized that, as a reptile it actually made sense, and he realized he had to stop thinking like a human. 'If I'm now some kind of large reptile then why would I still eat like a human,' he asked himself. He sat thinking deeply about his situation, and hadn't even noticed that the sun had gone down over the horizon. He gave a sigh, and threw the peels over the side of the cliff, and into the water below.
He woke the next day as the sun was coming up over the horizon. He climbed out of his hiding spot, and stretched his stiff body from his neck down to his tale. The sky was thick with clouds, and the air felt damp. He yawned, and walked up to the top of his island. He could taste the moisture in the air, and feel it beading up on his scaly skin as he walked. When he got to the top all he could see was pure white, and he couldn't even see the jungle through the thick fog.
Without any warning what so ever it started pouring. He made a mad dash back to his hiding spot, trying to keep himself from getting wet. He ran into his small, and somewhat dry cave, and stood there completely soaked. He wiped the water away from his eyes, and then started wiping the water off of the rest of his body.
As he stood there trying to dry himself, he realized he had started doing it without even thinking about it. He had ran into the cave trying to keep his cloths from getting wet, and he wasn't even wearing any clothes, and he realized he was thinking like a human again.
He looked at the rain coming down just outside his cave, and walked outside. He stood there, feeling the rain as it hit against his body. The air was hot, and the rain felt warm as it ran down his scaly skin. This was the first time he had ever intently stood out in the rain without something to protect himself from it. The rain felt relaxing just like a warm shower against his naked reptilian body. He walked back up to the top of the island, and found a rock to sit on. He laid back and relaxed in the warm rain.
The rain slowed, and stopped several time while he sat there. Eventual the fog disappeared, and he could see the mainland again. He sat there for several hours before getting bored with looking at the scenery, and walked back to his cave. He sat down on the dry cave floor, and tried to think of something to do. The only thing he could think of was to go flying, but he didn't think it would be such a good idea flying in the rain. He still had the second fruit, but he wasn't hungry.
He could always find something to keep himself busy even on rainy days. If he wasn't at school, or doing something outside, then he could always play games on his computer; usually with his friend Steve.
He looked around at the dull grey cave walls. He couldn't think of anything to do no matter how hard he tried. He had been so caught up with the sights, and sounds of this strange new world that he never even realized now much he missed his home. He didn't even have anyone to talk to. Even without TV or computer games to keep himself busy he could always find something to do outside, as long as he had someone to do it with. Steve was his only friend who lived within walking distance of his house. The two of them could spend an entire day outside just riding their bikes on the miles of trails around their neighborhoods.
Seth couldn't shake the home sick feeling, as he watched the rain coming down outside his cave. He sat there staring at his clawed green hands trying to think of something to do when he heard his stomach rumble. Except this time it wasn't due to hunger, and he made a mad dash out of the cave. It felt like his bowels were going to explode. He held back the urge to shit as he madly looked around for the bathroom. He kept looking until he couldn't hold it any more. He squatted down, and took the first shit with his new body. He could hear it hitting the ground, and after he was finished he realized he had just taken a piss and a shit at the same time.
He had always been shy. He never even liked being shirtless in public let along being completely nude. He knew he would have been embarrassed even being all along in this world if he were still human. As he stared down at his perfectly smooth reptilian crotch he realized he didn't feel embarrassed at all, even thought he was completely naked.
Maybe it was because he no longer had anything showing that he could be embarrassed about, he didn't know for sure. Up until now he hadn't thought about how he would take a piss without a dick. He thought about it for a second, and realized that he had never seen any reptiles with an external penis and testicles. 'If they only had one hole then that was where it had to go,' he thought to himself. He turned to walk back to his cave, and realized he had shit running down his tail.
"God damn it," he said out loud, and he looked around for something to wipe it off with. He was surrounded by an endless supply of large leaves, and he snapped off the first one he found. He tried to wipe the shit off, that was running down his tale, but he only managed to smear it around.
He threw the leaf to the ground in an angry fit. He looked around for something, anything that might help. All he could find were more leaves, and he already discovered that, that only made things worse.
The smell of his own shit was starting to get to him, so he walked away from the overpowering smell. 'Maybe I can wash it off,' he thought to himself.
With that thought he walked to the nearest edge of his island, and looked down at the water far below. 'I could float down, but then I would have to climb back up,' he thought to himself, and he didn't really feel like making the climbing back up.
He turned his attention back to the sandy beach of the mainland. It was still raining out, but it had slowed to just a sprinkle. For some reason it still felt wrong to try and fly even if it was only sprinkling out. He gathered up a bit of courage, and leapt off of the cliff. He could feel the rain hitting against his wings, but it didn't seem to affect his ability to fly. He made it to the shore in less than a minuet. As soon as he hit the ground he rushed into the water until it was up to his hips, and started wiping the shit off of his tail. After checking several times to make sure it was all gone he got out of the water, and flew back to his island.
When he woke the next morning it was not because the sun was in his face, but instead he was woken by the sudden need to shit or piss again. He rushed out of the cave again to the same spot he went last time. He squatted down, and was about to let if flow, when he remembered his tail. He lifted his tail as high into the air as he could, and took another piss and shit. When he was done he was glade to see that he hadn't gotten it on himself this time. He walked away from the nasty smell, and went back to his cave.
His empty stomach was rumbling as he walked back, and he knew he was definitely ready for some breakfast this morning. He found the second fruit right were he left it, and ate the entire thing except for the seeds and outer layers. He felt full, but for some reason his stomach didn't feel quite right. It felt like he had gas, and he belched off and on for several hours. He soon forgot all about it as soon as the feeling went away.
The sun was still coming up, and it was looking to be a very hot and sunny day. He could feel the excitement building up inside him as he looked up at the clear blue sky. He definitely had a case of cabin fever after just one day of endless boredom.
He spent the rest of the day just flying around anywhere he wanted. He practice making sharp turns and flips in the air. He even practiced flying through the forest, and landing on some of the huge branches. He saw tons of flying reptiles, and more giant dinosaur like animals.
He discovered over a dozen rock covered rivers twisting through the jungle. The rivers were hard to spot from the air though the dense jungle, but there was just enough water showing for him to make them out. Part way into the day he stopped by the same fruit tree he found before, and helped himself to another melon size fruit. He gathered up two more, and dropped them off at his cave, and went back to flying.
He didn't get much sleep that night. He didn't know what was wrong, but he just couldn't stop shitting and pissing. It felt like he had a bad case of diarrhea or something. 'It has to be that fruit I'm eating,' he thought to himself.
He was hungry even before the sun had come up over the horizon. No matter how hungry he was, he was going to find something else to eat other than that fruit. He spent much of the morning searching the forest for something to eat. He eventually found a tree that was filled with long green cucumber looking things. He picked one, and snapped it in half. He smelled it, and licked it, and it tasted like card board. It wasn't very appetizing, but he ate it anyways, but it still left him feeling hungry.
He decided to wait, and see how he felt before having anymore. He gathered up a dozen of the things, and took them back to the his small island. He didn't feel any better, but he also didn't feel any worse either. He ate three more of the things before he finally felt full.
After the fifth day on an all fruit and vegetable diet he realized something was wrong. Apart from having to shit all the time, he felt weak and fatigued even in the middle of the day. Only a few hours after waking he would feel tiered again, and wanted to go back to sleep. At first he thought there had to be something wrong with the fruit he was eating, but after eating many different kinds of fruits and vegetables he knew that couldn't be it. He stopped himself, and tried to cleared his mind, and asked himself what should a seven foot tall dragon with razor sharp teeth and claws be eating.
"Well meat of corse you dumb ass," he said to himself. The answer seemed so obvious. Except there was one problem, he didn't have any meat. The only meat he could even think of was that huge dead animal he had first found on the beach. He knew that even if there was any meat left it would be rotten by now.
He could actually feel himself getting weaker with every passing day. And how long would he last eating nothing but fruits and vegetables? He knew that if he kept himself on a vegetarian diet he might get so weak that he might not even be able to fly.
'Well maybe I could build a bow and arrow,' he thought to himself. Except he didn't know how to build one. It wasn't like he could just go out and buy one either. It was a long shot, but he couldn't think of anything else to do. It was at least worth a look he told himself, and with that he spread his wings, and headed off in the direction of the carcass.
It took him longer to find it than he thought it would. When he did finally find it he was actually tiered from the somewhat short flight, and felt like taking a nap. He landed a ways away from what was left of the corpse. He could see a large group of small green animals milling around the pile of bones that had once been a mountain of flesh. They had long necks and tails, and stood on two legs, but were no bigger than a chicken, and he thought they looked similar to those small dinosaurs from the movie Jurassic park.
He started to walk towards the pile of bones. As soon as he got close enough they all turned, and ran off into the jungle, squeaking and squawking all the way. He walked up to the pile of bones, looking for anything he could eat, but it looked like it had been picked clean. He picked up a huge rib bone which was taller than he was, and turned it around looking it over. He threw it back to the ground in frustration. 'Now what am I going to do,' he thought to himself.
He heard something behind him, and turned around just in time to see a blur of something green jump at him. He instinctively put up his hands, and caught the creature by the neck, keeping it's jaws from snapping around his own neck. The animal thrashed back and forth a few times, and broke his grip. As soon as it had all four feet back on the ground it lunged at him again.
This time he stepped to his left, and it missed. As soon as the creature hit the ground he spun around, and jumped on top of it's back, pining it to the ground. The creature thrashed around violently trying to free itself. Seth grabbed it by the neck with both hands trying desperately to keep it from getting up. It wouldn't stop thrashing, and it was starting to drag him across the ground with him on it's back. He could feel his grip slipping as the animal tried to pull away from him. He took a deep breath, and squeeze as hard as he could to regain his grip before it could pull away.
As soon as he started squeezing, the creature started thrashing even more violently. He could feel himself being lifted up off the ground as the creature fought to get him off it's back. The more it struggled the harder he squeezed until suddenly it stopped moving.
Seth was breathing hard, and he could feel his heart pounding in his chest, but he couldn't take his hands away. He sat on the creature until he could no longer hear the sound of his own beating heart. He looked down at it, unsure of whether it was actually dead. He could feel his hands beginning to ache, and he realized he was still squeezing it.
He tried to take his hands off it's neck, but he found he couldn't pull them away. He looked down at his hands, and he could no longer see his fingers. He turned the palms of his hands away from the creatures neck, and he could see that he had squeezed it so hard that he had driven his claws all the way into it's neck.
He could see dark red blood starting to pour out from where he had driver his fingers into the sides of it's neck. He could hear a wet sucking sound as he struggled to pull his fingers out. He held up his blood covered hands, and watched as the dark red blood ran down his arms. He stared down at the creature, still not sure what had just happened.
Seth started hearing squeaking noises, and he quickly turned his attention back to the jungle. He could see the group of little green animals staring at him from the edge of the jungle. He could tell that the squeaking noises were coming from them, and he didn't like the way they were looking at him.
He got off the dead animals back, stood up, and looked around for any other signs of danger. He didn't see any other large animals, but he could see the little green chicken size dinos were slowly getting closer. He lunged towards them, flapping his wings, and yelling, and they ran back into the jungle. He stood there until he could no longer see their heads poking through the undergrowth, and he turned back to the animal he had just accidently killed.
No sooner had he turned his back, than the little dinos were back regrouping, and squeaking at him from the edge of the jungle again. Seth looked down at the dead animal. Even though he was still shaking from being attacked he knew he had to somehow take it with him.
It looked to heavy for him to carry all the way back to his island. He looked around frantically for someplace where he could carry it, where nothing else could bother him. He could see a cliff face which looked like it might be a safe place, but it looked like it might be to far away. The group of chicken size dinos were getting closer, and there were more of them than there had been just a few minuets earlier.
Seth scared them away one more time. Then ran back, and picked up the blood covered animal in his arms, and ran down the beach towards the shore, with the group of little dinos chased after him. He leapt into the air just before hitting the water, and rapidly flapped his wings to get himself airborne.
He turned towards the cliffs, but he could already feel himself getting tired from carrying the extra weight. He kept flying, and the muscles in his back and wings began to felt like they were on fire. He made it over the top of the cliffs, but couldn't carry the dead animal any more, and he dropped it. He watched it fall, and hit the ground with a loud thud, and he drifted down after it.
When his feet were firmly on the ground he looked around as he tried to catch his breath. The top of the cliff was rocky, and there was nothing but open air in one direction. Which was good incase he had to make a quick escape. The rocky cliff extended in the other direction for about fifty feet before turning back into jungle again. He stared off into the jungle, and watched for any sign of movement until his breathing returned to normal.
When he was sure that he was alone he turned his attention to the dead animal at his feet. He could see that it was one of those dog like reptiles he had seen days earlier. The ground around it's head was turning red as blood continued to seep out from the wounds on it's neck. He knelt down to examine it more closely.
He had seen this kind of animal before, but not this close. Even from a distance he could tell that they were heavily muscled. He never realized just how muscular they really were until he had one right in front of him. It's neck was thicker than it's head, and the muscles of it's front legs bulged out from it's body more than he would have thought possible for a wild animal.
He continued his examination, and it looked like the animal hadn't eaten for some time. It's ribs were visible, and it's stomach was shrunken in. As he looked at the creatures rear legs, which looked like the legs of a greyhound on steroids, he noticed a deep bit wound, and he knew he hadn't put it there. If the animal was wounded then that might explain why it was so skinny, and why it had attacked him.
He knew he couldn't survive by eating nothing but fruits and vegetables, but he wasn't sure what to do next. He looked at the blood covering the claws on his three fingered hands. 'It's worth a try,' he thought to himself.
He knelt down, and stabbed into it's front leg with one of his claws. He knew his claws were razor sharp, but he was still surprised at just how easy it was to cut into it. He dug in deeper, and dragged his claw downward using short up and down thrust like he was cutting meat with a knife. After he had made a long deep cut, he made another cut on the other side of its leg. He then connected the two cuts, and tried to pull it off, but he couldn't rip it free.
He grabbed the partly detached price of meat in one hand, and cut away with the other until it finally came free. The piece of meat he was holding was bigger than his hand, and would have been impossible to swallow if he had still been human. He knew from his experience with trying to chew fruit, that chewing was pointless. He knew he could swallow huge pieces of fruit without any problems. There was still a part of him that told him he needed to chew his food, and he knew he had to stop thinking like a human if he wanted to survive in his new dragon body.
He held the piece of raw meat which was big enough to fill a dinner plat, and thought about how crocodiles swallow their prey whole, and would simply let it slide down their throats. He still found the idea of eating raw meat disgusting, but he knew he had to do it if he wanted to live. He took a deep breath, and braced himself. He put the meat in his mouth, and tilted his head back, and started the proses of swallowing it. Even thought he was holding his breath he could still taste the metallic flavor of the blood on his tongue. He could hear himself making gulping noises as he started to force it down his gullet.
It wasn't like eating fruit. The fruit and vegetables he had been eating were soft, and usually went down easy. He could feel the meat stretching his throat wider and wider the further it went down. It wasn't painful, and he found it strangely enjoyable.
He brought his hand to his neck, and he could feel it swelling as the meat went down. He made one last gulping sound as he finally forced it into his stomach. He took another deep breath to recover from his first fully aware, and somewhat willing experience with eating raw meat. He couldn't decide if he liked the experience or not. Everything he knew as a human was telling him he should be totally disgusted right now. His new body on the other hand didn't have a problem with it, even if he did. His new body worked the way it was supposed to, even if he hadn't gotten use to it yet.
He ran his tongue around the inside of his mouth, and then licked the blood off his flat reptilian lips. The blood had a metallic taste and was mildly salty. He didn't even feel like throwing up. 'I guess I could probably get used to it if I have to,' he thought to himself.
Seth had drank beer before, and the experience felt the same. The first time he had beer was when his friend Steve had stolen some from his older brother. Steve's brother and his friends had passed out one night when his parents were out of town. He remembered the two of them had snuck into his room and taken six cans while they were passed out. He knew Steve's brother would have counted the total number of cans they had, so they opened and emptied the beer into a pitcher, and returned the empty cans to his brother's room. This way when his brother woke up he would find the empty cans and think he or his friends had drank them. It worked, and his brother never suspected a thing. That was the first time, and so far the only time he had, had beer. He remembered it tasted horrible, but it wasn't bad enough to make him throw up. The more he though about the experience, the more he realized the taste of beer was worse than the taste of blood.
After eating his first piece of meat with a clear head he still felt hungry, and continued to carve off, and eat more until his hunger was finally satisfied. The feeling of a stomach full of raw meat felt much better than a stomach full of fruit. He hadn't felt this good since he started eating all of that worthless fruit. He could feel full from eating it, but he always felt uncomfortable when he did, maybe it was gas or something, he didn't know for sure. But he knew he wasn't made to live on a vegetarian diet.
It was getting late, and he guessed he had maybe 3 or 4 hours before the sun went down, and he wanted to get back to his island. Even though his stomach felt great the rest of him still felt weak, and he remembered how difficult it was to carry the dead animal even this far. He knew he would never be able to carry it all the way back to his island. He realized he wouldn't have to carry all of it back if he cut it up, and took smaller pieces that he could carry.
He went to work cutting off both of the creatures rear legs. Cutting away the meat was easy, but he had an impossibly hard time separating the leg bone from where it connected to it's hips. Eventual he got so frustrated he grabbed a leg with both hands, and put his foot on it's hip, and started pulling until he ripped it off. He then ripped off the other leg, and as he did he accidently spilled it's guts all over the ground in a wet messy pile.
He tried to not look at the sickening pile of guts. He held a leg in each hand, and tested them for their weight. Both legs were thickly muscled and weighed quite a bit, but not enough to stop him from carrying them. He held each leg by it's foot, and leapt off the cliff, and flew in the direction of his new home.
He woke the next morning after a full nights worth of digestion, and felt great. He still felt a little weak, but he no longer felt like crap, and he didn't have to get up once during the night with a case of explosive diarrhea. The air was thick with fog, but the sky was clear. He had used some vines to tie the two legs high up in a tree, and was relieved to find they were where he had left them.
When he had been eating fruit he would feel hungry several times a day or more, but he wasn't feeling hungry at the moment. He walked, and stretched his stiff body as he made his way to the top of the island. He felt good enough that he just couldn't resist doing some flying, and he had the entire day ahead of him. He spread his wings and flew into the fog filled air. He looked down, and could see the tops of the trees poking through the dense fog. It was a beautiful and odd sight to be seeing from above.
