Things Happen in Time -Part 2
Okay. Here is the second part. I worked on it a bunch in school. I hope you guys like it. ^^
Waking up to a hard throbbing in my head, I hear birds chirping and the sounds of flowing water somewhere close by. Sitting up groaning a bit from pain and completely confused of my surroundings, I see a river, which would explain the sounds of water, and a forest all around the small clearing where I am. But wait, where am I? "Why it seems as though your feeling better. Am I right?" Startled a bit, I turn around to see a human woman stirring what looks, and I might add smells, like soup in a pot over a medium sized fire. "Whoa. Who are you?" "I am a friend. You are not well. Lie down and sleep for a little longer. I will wake you when the food is ready." I think if I have seen this place before, but I am at a standstill. My head starts to throb a bit and I put my hands up to my head to massage my head. Then it hits me. I'm not a human. Somehow over the time I was out, I must have changed into a werewolf. In my wolf form, my fur is black with silver making my fur shine brightly. My eyes are emerald and I am around eight feet tall.
Not really caring about anything else, I just lie back down and try to sleep. I soon feel my sleepy and my eyelids close and I drift to a light sleep. A few hours later I am awakened by the smell of fresh soup. I sit up and grabbing the bowl that somehow appeared next to me, start to eat the soup leisurely. "I see you were quite hungry." "Yes I was indeed. Thank you-.....I'm sorry but what is your name?" She answers casually, "I am Phaze." I think if I have ever heard the name before, but to no avail, I give up. "And your name?" she asks. "Oh, sorry. My name is-" I look up to see her face. I stop dead in my tracks with apparently the dumbest look on my face because it makes her laugh. At that instant, I fell madly in love with her. With my mouth still open, I try to get words out that sound like complete gibberish. I was completely dumbstruck. "Your name is...?" she says with a laugh. "Oh. Uhm. My name is Zexma. Are you not afraid of me?" The reason I ask this is because last time I had shown my true form I was almost killed. Luckily, the village had no idea it was me. "What do you mean? Why would I be scared of you? Would you like more soup?" "Oh, yes please," I hand her the bowl saying, "The reason I ask is because, well look at me! I am a wolf! Why wouldn't you run?" While getting more soup for me she responds, "You really aren't that scary when you're passed out on the ground, snoring away," she says handing me the bowl of soup.
I graciously and quickly eat the soup then ask her, "So I was just lying on the ground?" I think for a minute then realize that something is missing. "Wait, where's Felix?!" I quickly jump up looking around and stumble a bit backwards a bit dizzy from my head injury. "Hold on there Mister Zexma, sit back down before you give yourself another concussion. And who is Felix?" I think for a moment where my son could be. I let out a deep sigh and continue saying, "Felix is my son. We were in my shop. He was just about to start forging his sword. When his hammer hit his sword, there was some kind of explosion. Now, here I am talking to you. Oh, and speaking of, where are we?" A little confused, Phaze looks up at me "What do you mean where are we? You should know quite well where we are. We are in Tirreva." Surprised to hear that name again, I think about what that woman had said to me before in my dream. "I'm sorry but I am not from here. I am probably quite far from here." Phaze just sits there, motionless. A little concerned I ask, "Is there something wrong?" Responding, she says, "No. I'm fine. There is just a mix of emotions right now. With you arriving, there is someone to talk to. I have been so lonely. You just appear out of no where and, and-......" Her voice trails off. She then puts her hands to her face and starts crying. I feel empathy because of the emotions I have for her. I get up and go to wrap my arms around her in comfort, but everything suddenly stops.
"This day can't get any better," I mumble under my breath. "Yes Zexma," I hear the same voice as in my dream. I turn around and this time, I can see what she looks like. My heart jumps and my eyes widen as I fall to the ground on my knees. "Mom?!" "Yes Zexma. It is I." With confusion, anger, joy, and sadness all mixed up inside me, I can't get words out of my mouth. I finally say, "Where have you been?!" With that, I burst into tears. Then off to the right, I hear a second voice. This time it is a male, but he is not a human. He is a werewolf. He is about 9 feet tall. His fur is dark brown and his eyes are golden. His expression is one of grief and exhaustion.
With a bit of a chuckle, he says "Now Zexma, I thought you were stronger than that." "Dad?! What are you guys doing here? I thought you were...." He cuts me off saying with a sigh, "Yes. We are really dead." At this point I could care less if they were dead. At least I am able to talk to them. "What happened to you guys that made you disappear off the face of the earth??" "Well, that is something that I will never forget. It hurts me to think of all that happened. When you were just a pup, our village was being attacked. I told your mother to take you and run with the other women and children while I stay and fight." With that, my mother takes over, "And we kept running. We did not stop until one woman tripped and broke her ankle. Then I asked if the others would take you and guard you with their life while I stayed back to create a distraction for their safety. The distraction worked for them, but not for me." I just stare at the ground with anger boiling up inside me and grief being let out as I sob. "You...you both sacrificed yourselves for my safety...." With a sad tone my father continues, "Yes. We tried everything to ensure that you would live." I just sit there soaking up all this information. After a few minutes have passed I raise my head to lock eye contact with my father. I notice a single tear running down his muzzle. With seeing this, I jump up and run to him. When I get closer, I fling my arms around him, but to receive only cold air as my body passes straight through his. My muzzle meets the ground in a painful way.
As I lay there, I slowly begin to lose all hope in myself as I continue to just cry. "Zexma, we are not fully here. I told you, we have passed." My mother responds in a soft, soothing voice, "We have come for more important matters anyway, isn't that right Daniel?" "Oh Samantha, can't we just wait until he gets to see more of Tirreva first?" While she is saying this, I get to my feet and dust myself off and wipe the tears from my eyes. I walk over to where Phaze is sitting and place myself next to her. I can still hear the echoes of her sobbing throughout my mind. "Well, I guess that would be better." "Whatever happened to you, dad?" A bit startled, he responds, "Well, once your mother left, I grabbed my sword and went with a group of men who were going to help to try and put some of the fires out. We had to do this without being seen by many troops who were destroying everything they could. As I was running with a bucket, someone saw me and at that second, I saw them. I dropped everything and ran for my life. I find a house that was untouched by the fire so I ran in and blocked the door with everything I could find. Then seeing as I have made a big enough blockade, I hide, waiting my soon to be death. Not thinking about it, I had blocked my only exit. Seconds later, it became really hot. I realized that the house was set on fire. I sit where I was thinking of how foolish I was. I felt someone walking around and jumped up ready to attack. I then find myself face to face with an old friend. He said that he and his family were in their cellar. He directs me toward it and we go in. It felt like days that we were in there. We heard yelling from outside so we open the door and as we thought it would be our friends, it was not. I will not tell the rest for you should already know the outcome."
I no longer know what to say. My father speaks up once more with confidence, "Anyway, through the years we have been watching you and we are very proud of the wolf you have become. For now, we must leave. We will speak to you whenever the time comes. Good luck son." With so many questions unanswered, they disappear. As the world starts to go back into motion, I wrap my arms back around Phaze. She continues to cry. I say, "Please do not cry." She leans toward me and I tighten my hold on her, waiting for a response. After she pulls herself together, she speaks up saying, "The reason I am upset is that there was a prophecy mentioned long ago about the arrival of a wolf. This wolf was said to destroy everything in his path. There was a description of what he would look like also." Confused, I ask, "Do you think you may have seen him?" "Yes." She responds. "Could you tell me who it may be?" after a few moments she takes a shaky breath and says, "You."
