Book One: The Gifted Child -Chapter Three
#4 of The Rithmorie Chronicles
This is much better. I think I'm going to try and work more on third person. I think its better to put more detail in than a first person perspective.
The ball of flame hit Tonka and there was a small explosion. Tonka soon opened his eyes and to his amazement he was unharmed. He looked at himself a little bit, rubbing his chest and belly as he couldn't believe that he was unharmed. He noticed that his fur was red and looked up at Alex. The pup just stared at him in confusion, like he didn't know what just happened either. Alex got frustrated and threw another fireball at him. Tonka winced again but as the fireball hit him and exploded, he felt nothing. He looked at his hands and smiled softly.
He rubbed his paws together as he looked at Alex with a large grin on his face. He copied what Alex had done and made fireballs in his paws. But instead of throwing them he tossed them up into the air a little ways, giggling as he juggled them a bit. He soon dropped the fireballs as he felt a sharp pain in his side. He yelped out as it hurt really bad. He looked at his side and saw a small ice spike lodged in it. He looked back up and saw the ice pup, Timber was his name. Timber scoffed at him and started to blast Tonka with a spray of frost. It was chilling to the bone.
" Odd, normally anyone caught in this gets frostbite in seconds." he said softly " Oh well, looks like I will have to try harder." he chuckled. He started to get closer to Tonka, being sure that he wasn't getting to close. The pure white husky had the most strangest glacial blue eyes. Tonak couldn't take much of the cold. He got on his knees and held up his paws to protect himself. Alex and the other husky just laughed at the sight.
" S.. S.."
" Oh what was that? I think i heard something from him Timber. I think he likes it." Cath had said. He was the green husky that wrapped Tonka up in vines. Tonka was in a lot of pain now. He started to get upset. He looked down as tears started to roll over his cheeks, only to evaporate shortly after. He noticed the ground seemed to turn red. His anger boiling up.
" S.. Stop.." He mutter out. Cath tilted his head as he heard Tonka's voice. He soon went from a smile to a sudden frown. The tone Tonka had and the sound of his voice was just so, strange to him.
"Guys... I think we should stop. Just leave him be. You guys made your point now lets just get some berries and go." Cath had said. Alex got red in the face as he heard what Cath had said. Alex got up and pushed Cath down, burning him in the process. Cath yelped out in pain and covered his burn with his paw.
" Shut up Cath. You are such a whimp." Alex said. Cath looked at Tonka and started to panic. He started to worry that they would end up hurting him baldy or much worse. Cath got up and sprinted to the village. He had to find someone to help. Tonka couldn't hold his paws up anymore. Alex stood up and scoffed. " I'm sorry runt. I don't think I heard you." He said in a sarcastic tone. He and Timber just laughed as they continued to hit him with the frost. Anger was welling up greatly inside of Tonka.
" I... Said.... STOP!" Tonka yelled out. He stood up and yelled out as loud as he could. " ENOUGH!" He screamed. Alex was astonished at how well Tonka was able to speak, this being the first time anyone has heard him speak. Tonka was so angry, he couldn't feel the cold, just the heat no. He stomped his foot and a wave of flame pulsed from his body, pushing back Alex and Timber. Timber howled out in pain as the heat hit him hard, causing his paws to burn badly. " Leave... me alone." Tonka growled out. He took a deep breath and yelled at the top of his lungs, as loud as he could. But instead of just screaming to the sky, a thick pillar of flame shot from his muzzle, turning the cloudy sky red.
" Alex, we need to leave now.." Timber said as he went from his brave, confident self to scared. Alex was struck with awe. He soon looked up and noticed balls of fire starting to rain from the sky. Alex quickly got up and grabbed Timber and they both tried to run as fast as they could but were caught up in the hellish fire storm that Tonka had created with his rage.
Cath looked back as he heard the screaming and feared to worst. His eyes widened as he saw the pillar of flame reach the sky and quickly found Tonka's hut. He barged in, panting heavily. Adriana and Kahz looked at him starteled. " The.. the..." he tried to say as he tried to catch his breath. Adriana got to him fast and Kazh was right next to her.
" Cath my boy.. whats wrong? You looked scared about your wits." he said softly. Adriana noticed the burns on him and started to heal them. She was the villages prime healer. She loved using the power of nature to help her and was well acquainted using the elemental power of the forest.
" Tonka... is in trouble at the berry patch." He finally started to say. " I'm so sorry.." he cried. Tears rolled down his face. Adriana looked panicked and walked out side. There was a crowd starting to gather. She looked to the direction of the berry patch and looked horrified at what she saw.
" Kahz!" she yelled out as she ran for the berry patch. " Stay here everyone let us take care of this." she ordered. Kahz walked out the door and was amazed. He tried to rush with Adriana but was to old to really keep up. One of the villagers walked up and tried to help him, Simon.
" Such power... for such a little one.." he said under his breath. Simon looked confused and looked at Kahz. " I never though his power would be this much... but so much rage....." he said sadly. " He must learn control..."
" Who master? Who made that?" Simon had asked. He was concerned. His wife Dess walked up to him and placed a paw on his shoulder.
" Simon... its Adriana's son.." she said softly. She was there the night he drowned in the Rith. She saw what happened to him.
Adriana started to draw water out of the ground to help her get close. " Tonka!" she yelled out as she dodged the balls of flame. She saw the other two pups and quickly got to them. " Hey! What happened?" she yelled out as she picked them both up, carrying them to safety. Timber and Alex were to frightened to say anything. She used her water element to help counter act the fire, keeping her and the boys safe. She soon got them out of range and ushered them towards the village. " Hurry up and get over there. NOW!" she barked.
The two wasted no time rushing back to the village. She soon saw Simon rushing to aid her. " Adriana where is your husband?" he asked " Shouldn't he be here to help you?" he stated in an aggravated tone.
" Ya but he disappeared last night. We don't have time for talk we have to stop my son." she stated. She rushed into the fray of fire, using water to put some out to make a path. Simon aided her as he froze the wet ground she made to help make a path. he soon ran in front of her. " Ready Simon?" she asked as she started to gather up water in her paws.
" Yep, just like old times huh?" he chuckled. she threw the water, making a stream. He immediately started to freeze it and hoped on it to slide along the ice rail they had just made. She wasn't far behind them as they slid along it. Adriana made sure that Simon didn't run out of water to freeze so they could keep going. " He is melting the ground..." he said to himself more so out of astonishment. They soon got to the berry patch and saw Tonka. His red fur made him looked like he was on fire. He wasn't screaming out to the heavens anymore, but the pillar of flame was radiating from his body. Every now and then a pulse of heat would explode from him. He sat down in what looked to be molten rock. " How is it not burning him?" Simon asked.
" It seems he is immune to fire." Adriana replied. Tonka opened his eyes as he heard voices. He turned to them, his eyes completely red. " Tonka I'm here to help you, just calm down hon." she stated. Tonka started to breath heavily and each time he exhaled fire would shoot. He wanted to speak but all he could do was growl in pure anger. He turned his back to them and closed his eyes. His mother slowly walked up to him, wincing from the heat. Simon was behind her and soon placed his paws on her shoulders, keeping her cool in the heat with his ice.
" Tonka its me, your mother. Calm down!" she said softly. She wasn't going to raise her voice at him, especially now in the situation her and Simon were in. She stop just a couple feet from him. Any closer and she would be melting her feet in the molten rock. She reached down softly and placed a paw on Tonka's shoulder. Tonka reacted almost instantly, turning around and hitting her and Simon with what seemed like a club of solidified fire, knocking them both aside. He soon snapped back into reality.
The fire started to dissipate and subside as he looked at his paws. He started to realize what he just did and ran up to his mother. He was starting to shake and began to look around. The berry patch was destroyed. He saw Simon, unconscious from being hit. He placed his paws on his mother and started to shake her but she wouldn't move. He started to whimper but she was still not moving. He felt a deep sadness and fear. He started to cry as he couldn't wake her up. He stood up and started to back away from them both. His red fur starting to turn blue.
He couldn't hold back the tears anymore. He started to cry and ended up falling backwards as he backed away from Simon and his mother. He soon rolled over and got up, stopping at his knees, his back towards the two. He looked at his paw and placed them on the ground. Thunder started to echo from the mountains as the sky turned a dark grey. He reared his head back and began to howl out in sadness. As he howled it had began to rain. His tears flowing from his eyes like a river. he closed his eyes and cried as it rained. The rain put out what remained of the fires and all that was left was the charred remains of the berry patch.
Adriana started to wake up as she felt the drops of water hit her fur she started to lean up and heard Tonka sobbing. She looked to the sky and noticed the color change in his fur. Simon was also starting to wake up. He held his head as he had a massive migraine now. Adriana stood up and limped over to Tonka. She placed a paw on his head and he immediately perked his ears up and looked at her. He couldn't believe it at first but didn't care soon as he hugged his mother. He cried happily seeing that she was awake. He looked up at here and sniffed. " Shhh hush hon.. everything will be fine now... okay?"
Simon walked up to her and sighed. " Well maybe not right away. We do need to fix this berry patch." he said softly. He soon gasped out as he got an elbow to the side. " Well fine sorry for talking. I wonder whats worse almost you getting made or your son at this point." He said sarcastically. He chuckled a bit and smiled. " Well at least the little guy is okay. "
Adriana chuckled softy and nodded. " Ya at least. We can fix the berry patch tomorrow. And you are going to help me alright?" she said as he started to walked back to the village. Her limp gone now. Simon walked with her and smiled. He blushed a bit as he felt Tonka grab his paw as he had Adriana's. " That's his way of saying sorry." she said softly.
" Oh well.. its alright. Things happen." he said softly.
" I... I.... I'm sorry..." Tonka said softly under his breath. Adriana suddenly stopped and looked at Simon.
" Uh... Adria... did... "
" Yes...."
" But I thought .."
" So did I."
