Nodrog got Amy to fly back to the base they had picked her up from. Cindy and Sherman were not very thrilled that conversation had been in monster-ease as Cindy now called it.

Amy set the chopper down and left the engines running as they got out. Once out of the gunship Nodrog gave her most of the orders he was supposed to. Actually instead of telling her to forget, he had told her never to forget.

Her eyes quit glowing and she made the rather quick change back to what they would call her normal self. Amy took her bag from Nodrog. "Will I ever see any of you again?"

"Someday we might see you again." Nodrog gave her a hug before he and Sherman stepped back aboard the gunship.

Amy waved goodbye as Cindy piloted the gunship and headed back to their home base. She smiled knowing that Nodrog had not given her the orders to forget. She headed out to turn in her letter of resignation and pack her things. Amy would have to return to the secret base. At least she would return knowing that the monster everyone feared, was not the monster they claimed him to be. Because he protected her memories of her time with them, and those at the base she had been stationed at. He had also given her a message to pass on to Pang Zsu when she returned.

Cindy was glad to be back behind the gunship's controls. She couldn't understand why Sherman and Nodrog would not tell Mr. October about the base. Or what they were doing there. She trusted them both but felt a little at odds with their decisions. "So what are we going to tell Mr. October?"

"I still haven't decided. Its much more complicated then I was expecting." Sherman said, and it was. He had heard the sincerity in Freeman's voice, they were trying to do some good work with what they had. Was it his place to jeopardize everything they were doing?

"Why don't you have a talk with the general first. Then figure out what to report from there." Nodrog said.

"After what we did to him, I doubt he will want to do much talking." Cindy said.

Sherman made no more responses as they flew back. He had a lot on his mind, Nodrog was right, he should talk to the man. He needed to know the reasons behind the actions. It might give him something to use in his report.

Instead he thought of a better idea. He made his report to Mr. October who agreed with his decision to let the old man go. Sherman's boot steps echoed as he walked the hall along prison cells till he stood at the one they held the general in.

"What are you doing here kid?" The General asked as the cell door opened.

Sherman tossed some street clothes at him. "I am here to get you dressed and on a plane."

"Why would you do something like that?" The General asked.

"I have been to that base, and seen what you and Freeman are working on." Sherman said.

"And how does that make me free to go?" The General asked as he got changed even if it was really for a firing squad.

"It just means I didn't hand everything the two of you have worked for over to Mr. October. You have been forcefully resigned and striped of all rank. In other words, you are free to return to your work but with no company backing." Sherman said.

"After turning on you, you are letting me walk?" The General said as they walked out of the prison.

"I think your work has vouched for you to have been given a second chance. That and you will have to live with your mistakes." Sherman said as they stepped onto the shuttle bus for town.

"You have become the man I have wanted to be. I'm proud to have known you Sherman." The General said.

"This is your civilian plane ticket back out the Black Hills. Nodrog contacted Pang Zsu, someone will be sent out to pick you up." Sherman said as the bus pulled to a stop at the train station.

The General shook his hand and stepped off the bus to take the train out to the airport a free man. Something he had never thought he would be. With a tear in his eyes he made the slow journey back to the Black Hills.

Sherman felt better knowing he had spared the old man's life. Perhaps in his life time he might hear of how those three old men had made good on their work. He walked up to his apartment they had given him to use and smiled as Cindy greeted him as he closed the door behind him.

"So how did the old man take it?" Cindy asked as he sat down next to her on the couch.

"I think he actually might have been crying when he got on the train." Sherman said.

"That would have been something to see. Look at the card I got in the mail when we got home the other day." Cindy handed him the light blue envelope with the card in it.

Sherman's smile spread as he read the short engagement announcement from Alice and Jenny. "That's wonderful. Gets you thinking doesn't it."

"About what?" Cindy asked as he set the card down on the coffee table. Her heart skipping a beat as she thought he might ask her.

"Which one will wear the tux and which one the dress." Sherman laughed as she smacked his arm.

"That's not funny. Okay it is funny but we shouldn't laugh about it." Cindy grabbed his shirt collar to pull him on top of her.

"Can I help you?" Sherman asked.

"So you have picked the location but not the date?" Nodrog asked after both girls sat in his lap.

"I'm sure she was. I am really happy for the both of you." Nodrog said.

"It sucks you and Jenny will have to be out in the field working. I was hoping you two could come watch the race." Alice said.

"That would have been fun. It will be nice to get back out in the field and doing some work. With all the shit that's gone on we are having to combine the two field units as it is to get any work done." Jenny said

"Have we heard who is going to be in charge?" Nodrog asked.

"Frank is, Kathrin is assisting Jade in cleaning up the mess that the general made." Jenny said.

"Frank is a good guy to work under. With Jim and Kenny with me, it will only be you two along with Katie, Mary and... Crap what the hell is that guy's name?" Alice tried to remember the other new guy's name.

"Nick. Can't recall his last name." Nodrog said and scratched his chin.

"I thought your dad was going with you?" Jenny asked.

"He is, mom will start getting ready for classes the same week as the race." Alice flopped back on one side of the couch.

"So how did Joe talk you into the photo shoot tomorrow?" Nodrog asked.

"Actually his wife asked me. Completely her idea too. Wes and I will each have our own poster of us with our cars. Then they want one of the two of us together wearing matching shirts with Joe's shop logo on it." Alice said.

"That's a pretty good idea. We better get one of each." Jenny said.

"Of course, plus they will have one of all of us. Joe's entire staff plus us two drivers and our navigators. Even Jim gets to be in that one. There will be time each day for people to walk around, get pictures, autographs, buy vendor stuff." Alice said.

"You sound a bit nervous about that last part." Nodrog said.

"I always am being in the spot light like this." Alice said.

"Well we think you deserve it. I bet it will be fun." Jenny said.

"At least the photo shoot will be, Katie's sister Amber is going to be directing it and bringing her own photographer. The guy works for her dress and wedding business." Alice said.

"Marcus, he is good, mom and dad use him all the time." Jenny disliked mentioning her parents, but Marcus was an outstanding photographer.

"The more we talk about it the more excited I am for it." Alice had thoughts of magazine covers dancing in her head. With her holding the big fist place trophy. Maybe she was getting ahead of herself but one of her wishes all ready came true so why not the other one.

By bed time Alice was excited to the point of having a hard time falling asleep. Of course she was up early and put on her red tank top she wore under the fire suit along with the boxer briefs and pulled on a pair of faded jeans over those. "You look good whether you are punk rock or business." Nodrog admired her rump with a smile as she bent over to set the helmet next to the chair. These were his and Jenny's favorite pair of jeans Alice owned.

"You're just saying that." Alice turned around. She should eat something before she left. Jim and Kenny would be waiting for her down in the shop. After a quick and light breakfast she kissed Nodrog good bye. "See you later love."

"Have fun love." Nodrog said.

Alice headed down to the shop and met Kenny in the elevator. "Morning Kenny."

"And good morning to you. Jim is probably waiting for us." Kenny said.

"He usually is." They stepped off the elevator and headed for the shop. Jim was all ready waiting for them.

"Morning. Tell me again why we are getting pictures taken?" Jim asked as they walked in.

"Cause the Amazon leopard said she would eat me if we didn't." Alice mocked fear.

"She did not. Why do I have to go? You know I hate getting my picture taken." Jim said.

"Because you are part of Joe's team during the race. And unlike Alice and myself you get paid to be there." Kenny punched him in the arm.

"Oh yeah, I love getting my picture taken." Jim laughed when they both flipped him off.

"Lets go." Kenny got in the passenger seat of Jim's personal truck. Alice got in her car and they both took off in a little bit of burnt rubber and tire smoke.

The meeting place was Joe's shop. Joe had cleared out the two shop bays that did not have car lifts in them. With the tool boxes, jacks and other tools out of the way it was big enough to hold four or five cars. Amber and Marcus had hung dark gray curtains in a half circle to hid the tools and keep the light from those windows coming in.

"That must be them." Joe's ear perked up as the low rumble of the little V-8 was drowned out by the near open header big block in Jim's truck.

"Only Joe could tell his friends apart just by the exhaust note of their ride." Wes and few of them laughed.

"Wes back your car in first, park it about here." Amber stood were she wanted it. She was also a leopard anthro like Katie, but had a much smaller build, ballerina like. A year older then Katie but shorter and thinner.

"Hey you three, always on time." Joe said.

"We like to be punctual. Since I can't ever get them to be early." Jim said with a smile.

"I blame it on my kids." Kenny said with a laugh.

"I got no excuse." Alice shrugged.

"Soon as Wes gets his car in here we will bring yours in. My little sister gave me the good news. Congratulations on your and Jenny's engagement." Amber gave Alice a hug and not so subtly added. "You have to let me make dresses for you both."

"We haven't even picked a date yet." Alice blushed.

"Gives me more time to make you both that much prettier dresses." Amber said.

The hyper car's low rumble, got every one's attention as Wes backed the car into the spot Amber had pointed out. With the extra flood lamps they had brought in for the photo shoot the candy color sparkled like a gem.

Marcus got him to back up a little more and signaled when he was in the spot they wanted. Alice was given instructions on were to back her car in at. Once that was done they formed a V with the nose of the Lotus just in front of the Austin Martin. Alice and Wes had both put on shirts.

Amber and Marcus guided and posed both Wes and Alice like they had posed the cars. They took a few shots reposing the two after each one. Finally they had Alice leaning on the bumper of her car and Wes kneeling at about the same level. Marcus and Amber talked long enough Alice and Wes started talking and just as the two were happily talking racing Marcus snapped another photo.

Joe and Katie were looking at the laptop screen as the picture was transferred to the larger screen. That was the one they would use they looked the most relaxed in that one. Of course it had caught some of Wes' muscled arms and some of Alice's bare left shoulder and the tank top strap, for a little sex appeal.

With that one set they pulled Alice's car out and shot a few of just Wes and the DB9. Then pulled the other car out staged another picture of Alice and Wes standing back to back. "They look good to me." Joe said.

"Alice put your race suit on." Amber agreed with Marcus. They all waited for Alice to go in the bathroom to change.

"Little better." Marcus grumbled as Alice stood in the last pose she had been in.

"Joe stand right here." Amber said while Alice stood waiting for more instruction. After getting Joe in a place off camera and whispered some instructions to him. Amber partly stripped Alice. Once partly posed Amber had Alice act like she was putting her hair in a pony tail.

Wes said as they all looked at the stunning photo of Alice with just enough smile and skin to have the girl next door look and not be vulgar. Despite the fact it was staged, it didn't look like it. Enough distraction and Alice was a photographers favorite kind of model.

"Let me see." Joe pushed a few guys aside.

"Joe, if that is a poster, you better get lots of them printed." Jim said as Alice finally got over to look at it herself.

"Maybe we should get her to model some dresses for the last quarter catalog we are talking about." Marcus said.

"Not a bad idea. If we can talk her into it." Amber smiled coyly.

"Come on its not that good." Alice was a little embarrassed about all the attention.

"Show of hands, all of those that think Alice is pretty enough to model raise your hands." Katie and all nineteen people but Alice raised their hands. "Looks like you got out voted."

"I think we need to finish up so we can get these printed." Joe said.

"All right Alice, pull your car out and get changed back. Everyone else make sure you have your shirts on." Amber clapped her hands to get everyone moving.

It took a little but they all got standing or kneeling where they needed to be. Joe had to keep the one of them all being a bit silly to hang on the wall behind the counter. The more professional one they used for the banners. And after a little coaxing, they got a good one of just Joe, Wes and Alice.

"So, what did you think? I told you it would be fun." Katie said as they helped pack up the photography equipment and return the shop back to normal.

"It was kind of fun." Alice and Katie pushed one of the monster tool boxes back where it belonged.

"Alice, I am serious about having you model some dresses for me. I would even pay you for it." Amber said as her and Marcus walked up to them.

"Come on you know it would be fun. Its like every little girl's dream to play dress up and pose for pictures." Katie said a bit envious.

"Bring Jenny with you, we can make a day out of it. Please, don't make me beg." Amber pleaded with her best big eyed begging face she could make.

"You're right, it would be fun and Jenny would be mad at me if she found out about it later." Alice smiled and knew Jenny would be mad if they didn't pose for pictures. Kenny and Jim had all ready headed back to their apartments. Alice, Katie and Amber headed out for lunch. To talk wedding stuff.

Nodrog and Jenny met Cindy and Sherman in the cafeteria for lunch since Alice had sent them a text she was going out. Mainly the two girls talked about wedding stuff, while the boys talked mainly work.

"Since we still fall under Mr. October's direct command, the three of us will pretty much be stationed at the same place for the foreseeable future. Looks like you are stuck with us no matter where you go." Sherman said.

"That won't be too bad." Nodrog said as they ate lunch.

"A little bird told me you play the piano." Sherman said with a smirk.

"I would have expected a little cat or mouse... Yes I can play, why do you ask?" Nodrog said.

"My brother is looking for a pianist for his jazz and swing band." Sherman cut his rather large sandwich in half.

"We took you and Alice to see them last fall." Cindy said.

"I remember, that was a lot of fun. I don't remember any of them being his brother." Jenny played with the whipped cream on the top of her milk shake.

"Lead singer and trumpet player, Winston." Sherman said.

"The other cute one." Cindy giggled as Jenny remembered.

"I don't know, if you ever meet them you can let me know." Sherman said with a chuckle.

"The only problem I see with it, is the amount of time we are gone." Nodrog tilted his head to the left to avoid a straw wrapper Cindy had blown at him.

"We can't take you to anywhere, can we?" Sherman caught the wrapper Jenny had poorly aimed. "Good point, still if you want we can look into it a little more before we have to head out."

"Why not, we have a week before we are heading out." Nodrog said.

"Hell, been in and out of town so much I haven't even had a chance to call him." Sherman said.

"When does Alice head out for her race?" Cindy asked.

"She leaves in two weeks. The equipment has to leave end of this week to be carried by ship." Jenny said.

"Why didn't she just ask to get it flown?" Sherman asked.

"Cause except her car, everything is Joe's. Lot cheaper to ship, by ship than plane. Especially that much weight." Jenny said.

"One semi truck with the cars and parts plus two chase trucks." Nodrog said as they ate.

"However we are flying first class." Jim and his wife pulled up chairs.

"Congratulations on your engagement." Carol said and gave Jenny a hug.

"Thanks. So who is paying for the flight?" Jenny asked.

"Joe, he got a deal since there will be ten of us going." Jim quickly snatched a few onion rings off of Jenny's plate.

"Hey get your own." Jenny cried and moved her plate away from him.

"He all ready ate. We were wondering if you both were going to wear dresses or if one of you was going to wear a tux." Carol said.

Sherman laughed and nudged Cindy with his elbow. "See I wasn't the only one."

Jenny just looked at them funny, what a odd question. "We both will be wearing dresses."

"Ha, told you so. Pay up old man." Carol held out her hand.

"I thought for sure it would be the other way." Jim handed over a twenty dollar bill.

"I think you two have a gambling problem." Jenny grumbled with her ears laid flat. She wanted to be mad, but it was a little funny. In their defense, Alice tended to dress more boyish then she did.

"Maybe we do. What do you think sweetie?" Jim asked.

"I bet you five bucks we don't." Carol said and they all laughed.

"Now that is pretty funny." Nodrog and the rest stood up to leave.

"We should head to town and see if we can find Alice." Jenny said as the group left the cafeteria.

"Sounds fun, lets go." Carol said and they all headed out to the shuttle bus.

Jenny sent Alice another text telling her they are all heading out. They picked a spot downtown to meet at and they all headed that way.

"That's not that far from the club, we should stop in and see if my brother is there." Sherman said as they piled into the trolley that headed downtown.

Katie and Amber were still with Alice. After all they owned the businesses they worked at so they could take time off almost whenever they wanted.

"I know how it is. I figured you would stop in when you got the chance." Winston was a little shorter then Sherman and not nearly as muscled. They were almost the same shade of gray.

"Mom tells me you are short a piano man." Sherman said.

"Yeah, Teddy didn't survive the surgery. Don't tell me you learned how to play." Winston said with a grin.

"Nope but I got a friend who can. Nodrog this is my little brother Winston." Sherman said.

"Nice to meet you Winston." Nodrog said.

"Same. What can you play?" Winston asked.

"You could say I am classically trained." Nodrog said with a smile, Alice and Jenny both laughed.

"Cool, let him try. I think we left some sheet music on the piano." Brian came out from behind the bar. He was a short and thin human fox hybrid. Like Jenny and Amy, he just had the ears and tail of the animal. Brian liked old fashioned clothing, he was wearing a pin stripe suit with a matching narrow brimmed hat.

"We can vouch he does know how to play." Jenny raised her and Alice's hand.

"You might want to find a sturdier chair or bench for him to use." Alice said as they followed Winston and Brian to the stage at the rear of the club.

"Why is that?" Winston asked.

"Here is one of our own songs. Teddy and I wrote it." Winston handed him a number of music sheets. While Brian swapped out the bench for the stool.

Nodrog looked over the music carefully, and like in the music store he only needed to read it over once. However he read it over twice out of courtesy. He set the music down on the small grand piano. "I am guessing Sherman met you through work. So you are probably gone a lot of the time." Brian leaned against a table.

"Unfortunately, I am." Nodrog said.

"In fact we gota take off next week for work. What's this supposed to run?" Sherman asked.

"Couple months. We are going back to the castle we found him in." Jenny was not really looking forward to it.

"Wait a minute, I know you do archaeology, and you are telling me you found him in one of your digs?" Winston asked.

"Yup, he is over eighteen hundred years old." Alice said.

"Once you get back we will introduce you to the rest of the band. See if they think you would be a good fit." Winston said.

"We usually stay a little busier here when the weather turns cold." Brian said.

"I will give you a call when we get back into town." Sherman gave his brother another hug before they took off.

"You better." Winston said as they left.
