Run Away

Her body ached all over. Her fur was matted with blood and sweat. Her hair was tangled and fell over her face. It was the same thing every night. If he wanted to go to bed he'd get his way no matter what. Zoe shut her eyes tightly, she bit her lip, as the wolf grunted loudly above her. He squeezed her breasts hard and bit her neck. He came with a loud grunt and then rolled off the hyena and out of bed. He pulled on his jeans and vest and then tossed a black mini dress to Zoe.

"Get dressed," he said.

He picked up a pack of cigarettes and fished a cigarette from the pack.

"No Darren I don't feel well," Zoe groaned.

"Get in the shower and then get dressed," he growled to her.

He took a few puffs from the cigarette and added, "I won't ask you again."

Zoe stood up and grabbed the dress and headed for the bathroom. She turned the knob and adjusted it to the right temperature. As she laid the dress over the toilet seat she saw Darren watching from the other room. Zoe glared at him, then slammed the door shut.

She stepped into the shower and squeezed a dollop of shampoo into her hand and soaped up her body and hair, scratching with her claws to ensure all the blood and sweat would wash out. She followed with a dollop of conditioner, rinsed, and then brushed and blow dried her hair and fur. She slipped into the dress and pulled her hair back into a ponytail.

"Come on," Darren said.

Zoe followed him outside and they both stepped into a red Ferrari and drove off.

They drove for what seemed like hours. It was already dark, but the street lamps and traffic lights and the headlights from Darren's Ferrari lit the streets.

"Stop frowning, we're going out dancing," Darren said.

We? Zoe thought to herself.

"I don't want to go," Zoe said.

"You're going, we're going," Darren said.

He stopped as the light turned red and added, "And try to smile."

As they drove, the buildings seemed to decrease and become more scattered. Then it became just desert. Finally they found civilization, if that was what you could call it, in the form of a big black building. All the windows had been boarded up, muffled music could be heard blasting from inside. It looked more like a place to deal drugs, so that's what Zoe thought.

As Zoe stepped out of the car, Darren yanked the band out of her hair, making her hair fall down her back. Zoe shot him a dark look, but Darren just grabbed her arm and led her inside. The inside was alive with colorful lasers, strobe lights, music and dancing. Two DJs stood on opposite sides, there was a bar to the far left, and the dance floor was overtaken by ecstatic furs. Almost immediately Darren abandoned Zoe to infiltrate a crowd of female furs dancing together. Zoe leaned against a pole, surveying the scene.

"Pig," she hissed, as she watched two of the femmes grind against Darren's crotch and ass.

A raccoon stood next to Zoe.

"Hey baby," he said.

He looked the hyena up and down and smirked. Zoe wrinkled her nose at him.

"Piss off," she said.

"Oh don't be like that," the raccoon said.

He put his paw on Zoe's waist and she inched away from him. She looked to Darren, who was too busy dancing with the other females to notice, so Zoe pushed the raccoon away from her and headed for the doors, past Darren's Ferrari and out into the darkness.

What are you doing? Zoe thought to herself as she ran. You're crazy! You could get attacked by some kind of animal or picked up by some psycho!

She paused as her mind mentioned the word "psycho."

More of a psycho than the one back there? She asked herself.

She shook her head and continued running. She ran till she reached the motel. She hurried upstairs to their room and slammed the door shut.

Her eyes were wet, her heart was beating fast and threatened to burst from her chest, her legs and feet hurt but she didn't care. She quickly pulled off her dress and rummaged through her suitcase and put on a bra and panties, then she pulled on a pair of jeans and a dark red tank top. She took out her tote and tossed a couple pairs of pants, skirts, shirts, undergarments, the black dress, her cell phone, wallet and a notebook and pen, and then hurried out the door and down the road.

The sun was just rising. Zoe had only gotten about a mile before she sat down on the ground to rest. She buried her face in her hands and wiped her tears away and looked out down the road. She looked to the left, all there were was a stop sign and a sign pointing out the directions and number of miles to get wherever the travelers needed to go, and the faint silhouettes of the town in the far distance. She looked to the right but all there was to see was road, dirt, bushes and clear blue sky.

Then she pulled the black dress from her bag and looked at it, then angrily thrust it into the dirt. She looked to the left again and saw what looked like a red car. As it got closer Zoe saw that it was Darren's Ferrari and she jumped to her feet, swung her bag over her shoulder and took off, running away from the road and along the rocky ground.

Darren pulled over and stepped out of his Ferrari and picked up the fallen dress and inspected it, then stared out into the distance and the dot that was Zoe running away getting smaller and smaller, then hopped back into his car and drove off.

It was blazing. Each step Zoe took felt like she was walking on a bed of nails. She looked into the distance and saw a little tan dot in the distance. As it pulled closer she saw it was a beat-up old jeep.

Zoe broke into a run, she tore through the bushes and rushed into the road.

"Stop! Stop!" she cried, flapping her arms wildly.

The jeep stopped and Zoe rushed toward it.

"Well hello," a pretty lemur said.

"Please! Help me, I need to get away," Zoe said quickly.

"Okay, where do you want to go?" the lemur femme asked.

"Anywhere, just so long as it's far away from him," Zoe said.

The lemur unlocked the car door and Zoe opened it and climbed in beside her.

As they passed a gas station Zoe's jaw dropped as she glimpsed a red Ferrari, then a tall wolf stepped out of the station to light a cigarette. He looked up as the two femmes drove by.

"It's him!" Zoe cried.

Lena slammed her foot on the gas pedal and the sped off just as Darren jumped into his car.

The two girls drove over a set of tracks just as the train pulled up. It thundered by, screeching and scraping along the tracks as it did. It seemed to go on for miles. They pulled up to a diner and motel. The girls ordered a couple of burgers, fries and sodas and retreated back to the motel to eat and watch TV.

"Do you think he's still after us?" Zoe asked.

Lena took a bite of her burger.

"No, I don't think he'll know where to look," she said.

"You don't know Darren, he won't give up," Zoe said.

"He isn't going to get you," Lena said.

She turned the volume down on the TV and added, "Stop worrying so much."

Lena kicked off her pants.

"You should try to get some sleep, you look exhausted," she said.

Lena pulled the covers over herself.

"I'm Lena by the way," she said.

"Zoe," Zoe said.

"Well, good night Zoe," Lena said, and she turned off the lamp.

"Where are you heading?" Lena asked, as she and Zoe sat at the table for breakfast.

Zoe poked at her eggs.

"I don't know, just anywhere that's not where he is," she said.

"Well, I'm heading to New York, if you want to come along," Lena said.

She took a sip of coffee and added, "It'd be nice to have some company."

Zoe looked up from her eggs and smiled.

"Yeah, that sounds good," she said.
