Chains...I opened my eyes and was looking at my knees on a wooden platform, I pulled on my bindings- steel cuffs bolted to a bar over the back of my shoulders, anchored to a collar around my neck. Slavery... this was a slave market, and I was up for sale. It was almost like a dream, in that I just somehow knew things, though I hadn't seen anything or had any way to know them. And that was how I knew where I was, why I was nude, bound, and gagged; and what I was looking at when I looked up.
Before me was an outdoor auction hall, draped in red cloth that formed shades overhead, and a smooth white adobe plaster wall formed a backstop separating the auction from the rest of the noisy open-air market. Wooden chairs and tables were set up in pairs on the action hall's floor with drinks and pitchers of iced tea set out. The hall was not quite full, but it all seemed blurry and faded, like in a surreal way I wasn't paying it any attention. There were only two beings in the room that seemed vivid and stood out - a stunning white minotaur, his pelt almost gleamed and shimmered in the light- and a black minotaur, the depth and darkness of his black pelt was like the blackest void of space, swallowing the sun. The two sat opposite each other at a table, reclined in comfortable upholstered chairs, both smiling- the white bull's smile was warm and welcoming, the black bull's muzzle covered with a twisted and subtly wicked but pleased grin.
An auctioneer bull got up on stage and stood behind a small podium.
"Next up, Slave number 45-136, Human male, approximately sixteen years old, virgin, with papers, and in good health." he said loudly over the auction hall.
Wait, sixteen...? I was older... I wasn't sure how much, but I knew I was a lot older than that... I looked down at my naked body as I kneeled, It was the same body I always had, but I think it was different somehow... I was younger maybe? I couldn't tell- I was a hairless young teen as far as I could tell...I think that was right.
The auctioneer approached me on the stage and hefted me by the chain attached to the D-ring on the back of my neck. Forced to stand I looked out across the hall, filled with many perspective slave owners.
"Starting bid is 500 Gilt Kar." he said as he ordered me to turnaround.
"Slowly." he said holding the chain firmly.
Slowly I started to turn in place, showing off my reddening humiliated body to the market. After one full spin, he took his end of chain and latched it to an iron ring mounted to a post on the center of the stage. Adjusting it, he made it so that I could kneel and put my face to the ground, and stand, but not much else. I noted dourly a bowl of drinking water at my feet. I was like a dog to them.
"The auction is open, do I have five hundred Kar?" he shouted as he stood back at the podium.
The black and white bulls both bid instantly, almost at the same time.
"I have five, I have six, and do I have seven? He has fine soft skin."
"Seven! Do I have eight?" he said as the white bull bid on me again.
I was horrified! Me! My body was for sale! Moreover, two minotaurs were going to try and buy me as a slave.
"His rear is soft, supple, and virgin, and he has papers of certification by an inspector." the bull said pitching me to the audience.
The black bull nodded his horns without taking his cruel eyes off me for a second.
"Eight. Do I have a Nine? Nine for the soft virgin?"
Both bulls reached down and pulled out their coin pouches in eerie unison. The white bulls was silver and white, with a curious blue symbol on the front, and the black bulls was black with gold trim, with a sharp and wicked looking red emblem.
For a second I was perplexed, until they both upended their coin bags, pouring out the coins onto the table in front of themselves. As the coins spilled from the bag, I realized what this was... each coin was a decision, one of many decisions I had made in my life... they were karma... they were 'Gilt Kar'. From in the White bull's coin bag spilled every event in my life where I had done right and know it. I could almost see the events in the coins, blurry and distant, almost unreal, like they were from a lifetime ago. I helped someone in need, I gave up things for the better of others, I made selfless decisions, I showed kindness to animals, I did many good things. Sometimes I even had compassion for insects and plants, and so a pile of coins mounded up.
But so did the coins on the other side of the table... the coins tarnished with my wrong doings. Every time I did something bad or evil and I knew, it was there in the form of a coin. Making fun of young boy in school, stealing some money from work, breaking a solemn promise... many shamefully bad things I had done in life. Some were smaller coins, perhaps for things like needlessly killing small insects or plants, lying, or cheating on a test. But they all added up in to a large pile, I wasn't sure who had more money, but I hoped dearly that it was the white bull, who smiled at me warmly as he looked at the coins. I started to shake as I looked over at the dark bull's coins, he- still there with a wicked grin- as he picked up a single coin and flipped it up in the air catching it and putting it in his pocket with a pat.
Oh god, what had I done?
