What once Was... Chapter 4

*********WARNING!!! This story is intended for MATURE and RESPONSIBLE ADULTS ONLY*********

R.C. hits reply on his phone and types, "I would like that maybe but I just met u and I am not sure of this". He waits for a reply which comes a minute later, "I see im sorry I am rushing things and pushing u". Sighing heavily, R.C. puts the phone down and jumps on his PC. He logs in to the local rave site to check out some messages and postings from the weekend. He pulls up the most recent event's thread to browse some of the postings and perhaps check out some pictures. Browsing down, he sees a few positive reviews, some negative about the promoter and a lot of "I had a blast" postings which were common place. He gets to the end and clicks the post button. He then goes on to type a positive message in which he enjoys the party, glad people are supporting the new promoter, etc. After he clicks post, he sees a message at the top from a user called "skykid".

"Oh he is on here, let's check him out." R.C. clicks on his profile page. Going through, he sees he's older by about a year and a half. He's single and complicated. "Complicated? Huh? Probably because of me." He keeps reading down looking at his friends and wall messages. One particular posting on it catches his eye. It's from Joey 3 to him, "Hey you, glad to see you may have met a new friend! He's a good friend of mine and I hope you two get to know each other more! ;-)". The fox shakes his head, "Typical panther," he quips. Scrolling down further, he reads more messages and finds the fennec also recently broke up with his partner a few months ago and was looking just recently. Clicking on the add button, he adds the fennec to his list of "friends" on the site.

After spending some time on the site checking his emails and messages, he looks over and sees it is 9 PM. He turns his machine off and walks to the restroom to prep for bed. He looks in the mirror as he brushes his teeth and fangs. "So it's just another fur? I need to give this thought. What about the classmates in school? Will they torment me like they do to the others?" he thinks to himself. He walks back to his bedroom and strips down. He examines himself all over to check for anything unusual as he does each night before bed. Putting on some old clothes, he then slips into bed and grabs his phone. He goes over the last text messages from before and thinks. He then hits reply on his phone and types, "tell u what, can we meet after work tmorro? I work 8-430" and sends it. He waits for a response which comes 3 minutes later. "sure thing fox where at?" R.C. sends a reply, "Eat n Park squirrel hill sound good?" a moment later, "yes but can u pick me up" R.C. replies, "Yeah, send me ur addy tomorrow gnite going to sleep" R.C. then put the phone down and curls up with his fox plushie to sleep.

All through the night, the fox tosses and turns waking up constantly. Every time he wakes up, he looks at his phone seeing for any text messages. He whimpers each time he sees nothing and heads back to sleep only to wake up moments later. This continues throughout the night as he clutches the fox plush tightly.

Several hours pass and his alarm goes off at 6:47. He jumps out of bed and falls on the floor. Looking up, he shuts the alarm off and struggles to come awake. He makes his bed and grabs his work outfit for his last day at work for the season. Heading downstairs, he walks into the bathroom trying not to wake his mother since his dad isn't home yet from work. He starts up the shower and strips down. He brushes his fur down all over his body and steps in front of the mirror. He looks at himself physically and thinks to himself how he could be attracted to a male. "There are no boobs and then there is this..." he thinks as he fondles his package. "What is the big deal?" He sighs and moves his towel to the hook next to the shower stall. Slipping a paw in, he has to adjust the temperature to suit and steps in. He lets the hot water soak his fur as he closes his eyes. His imagination starts to kick in as images of his exes pop in his head. The fox grabs the soap and starts to lather his fur. His teenage mind kicks in as his mind further expands and shows some of his exes in the nude. The fox becomes aroused as is the case with every teenager as the images become more explicit in his mind. In the shower, the fox continues to lather up his fur and rinse it off section by section. He looks down and notices his pride starting to present itself in response to his mind. Blushing a bit, he resumes scrubbing his fur and closes his eyes. In his imagination, he sees his most recent ex, who was a very good looking vixen begin to strip in front of him. The fox becomes fully aroused and murrs lightly in the shower as he starts to scrub his sheath and surrounding areas. He then grabs his male hood and starts to lightly stroke it as the vixen in his mind shows off all her assets. Making short work of his arousal, he gets close to climaxing. Pressing his free paw against the wall, the fox picks his pace up and feels himself about to explode. Right at the brink, his image in his head changes to that of Saturday night as his imagination unlocks his memory which shows a scene of him making out with Skykid. He fires his load hard in the shower keeping ever so careful not to make any sounds. After a while, he slowly comes back to his senses and now realizes he just thought of a guy at his intimate moment. "Wow, I can't believe it. Maybe I am? This is getting weird." The fox thinks to himself as he rinses off and shuts the shower down.

He grabs the towel coming out and dries his fur off giving ample pats to himself. He slips on his undergarments and starts to groom his fur. Looking in the mirror again, he pauses to think as his mind decided to unlock those memories that occurred during the drug induced night. "Am I attracted to him; I mean I have feelings for him like any other girl. He is nice and seems caring. Am I seriously...gay?" The fox starts to whimper lightly. He finishes grooming and dresses up ready for work.

He leaves the bathroom and hops to the kitchen to grab some breakfast. He makes himself two egg sandwiches and heads to the main room to watch morning news. "Last day of work and last day of no school, what a summer," he thinks to himself. Sitting down, he turns the television on and starts to eat. The normal news comes on and R.C. usually just watches it for the weather. Not much else is on the fox's mind as he completes his breakfast and preps to leave for his last day of work. He cleans up, shuts the television off, grabs his keys and heads out to his car.

He takes off to the shopping plaza taking it easy with his windows down enjoying the mild morning. As he arrives and parks in his usual spot, he makes his way down with a little pep in his step. He waves to the early morning lot crews who are out cleaning the lots of last night's trash. He walks down the ramp to the tunnel and does the traditional touch of the ceiling as he enters it. He then makes his way to the offices to pick up the keysets and blocks. He makes his way the middle meeting point and says to himself, "This is going to be a fun day!"

After his shift ends, he goes back to the main office and turns his badge in for the season, signs out for the last time, and says his goodbyes. He looks at his phone and sees a text from skykid. It reads, "hey when ur done let me know". He replies back, "done for season, where u at?" He walks toward to exit and makes his way to his car. When he gets to his car, he calls Skykid. A couple rings later, he picks up. "Heya R.C.! Good to hear from you, I take you want to do dinner?" R.C. replies back, "Yeah, where would you like to go to?"

"Ummm, not sure. You have any suggestions?" R.C. asks, "I'm game for anything almost."

Joey replies, "Say, come get me, I'm on 29thSt past the bridge to Liberty in McKeesport."

"Oh ok! I know where that's it, I can be there in about 15-20min here. See you then." R.C. excitedly says. He then starts up and pulls away towards Rt 837 South. He waves at a few co-workers who are walking to the fast food joints along the side route. He makes a right on to the highway and heads towards the McKeesport Bridge. His mind is occupied with thoughts of joy and sadness, mostly from working at the amusement park which he enjoyed every minute of which comes to an end. He turns on the semi-working car radio and turns his mini-disc on to play. He then bangs his fist into the center above the radio which gets the speakers to finally start working.

"I really need to fix that someday." He angrily says as he approaches the rumble strips for the bridge which kill his audio once again. "Piece of shit radio..." He says as he down shifts to approach the curve to the McKeesport Bridge. Taking the curve slightly faster than normal, the excited fox thinks trying to recall which one of the three ramps he needs to use to get to 5th Ave to easily make his way towards Liberty Boro.

Driving through the streets of McKeesport, he looks around at how this city turned into a dump. He passes a bunch of run-down businesses, a couple used-car lots, and a KFC. McKeesport once was a great city, but has since fallen on rough times as industry moved out. The fox rarely drives through McKeesport anymore as there's not much worth visiting aside from his recent new friend, DJ Blue whom he met at a party and now works with him at his production team. Coming to the news paper office, he makes the left onto the main stretch which will take him towards the Liberty Bridge. He recognizes the road from when he was a cub when his parents would drive to the drive-in beverage distributor. "Ah yeah, I remember this road! I know where I am." He says out loud.

He rounds the bend and heads towards the numbered block section. "Ok, I'm looking for 29th I believe." He says stopped at the light and looking at his note. He continues driving up and starts to become nervous as he approaches the 15th St Bridge. Stopped at the light, he checks his phone and notices a text. It reads, "hey ill be on my porch you cant miss me". He puts his phone down and waits for the light to change. "They never fixed this stupid light." He quips regarding how the malfunctioning light timing system keeps him waiting longer which to the fox seems like years. "Oh come on, really?" he starts getting impatient. The light finally changes to green and the fox takes off nearly missing a shift in the process.

A few moments later, he notices 29th st. and makes a left. The street consists of well maintained older style brick homes which bring a nice light to the area. He proceeds further up the road observing the nicely decorated yards along the road and keeping an eye out for a fennec fox that should be outside on the porch.

Passing the 2nd cross street, he thinks he sees a fennec fox on his right. Pulling over in front of the house, he looks over and it is Skykid. R.C. thinks to himself trying to calm down, "This is it, just a simple dinner and a meeting, that's all!" R.C. parks and gets out walking up to the house. "R.C., I'm glad you could make it! You knew your way here I hope?"

"Yeah, I know this area well. It's like uh...2nd nature to me?" R.C. says nervously looking around the area.

"Well that's good, glad you could make it. So, want do you want to do?" Skykid asks

"Um well, I guess we could do some dinner. I haven't eaten since this morning." The fox says looking at the ground.

"Sounds like a plan, I know a good place up the road if you're into good Italian eating?" Joey suggests standing up and coming to the fox.

"Um sure, heh. Well hop in and tell me where I'm going, please." R.C. says heading back to his car and getting into it. He starts it up and surprisingly it started. "Ok, so where to?" the fox asks.

"There's this place on 48 it's called Luciano's. It's pretty good."

"Ah ok, I believe I know where that is." R.C. says making a turn up the road towards 48. "So what do you do if you don't mind me asking?"

"Oh I'm still in school, but I have a part time job as a nursing assistant, pays pretty well. I'm hoping to get into the medical field" Skykid says.

"Nice, that's a high demand field. I'm not real certain what I want to do. I like to fix things and stuff. Maybe I'll find something that suits my interests soon. I still got some school left being only a junior." R.C. indicates. "Well I have a potential job coming up, except it's more like an internship. Club Laga in Oakland is looking for a technical assistant and since we have Groove there, I think I should look into that place for a job."

"You should R.C. You're like the best fox for the job, you're always good when you perform and you hold good events." The fennec says.

R.C. blushes, "Well thanks, I care a lot about having quality events and making sure everyone is satisfied. Plus I no longer have a job thanks to the end of the season."

"Oh yeah, Furrywood closes today! I wish they would stay open more." Joey replied.

"Perhaps, I have heard they're exploring making the park into a haunted house for Haloween." The Fox adds. "It's only just rumors so who knows?"

R.C. comes up on the restaurant and parks his car. The two get out and head in to get a table. As they approach the greeter booth, a feline greets then. "Welcome, how many in your party today?" She says.

R.C. informs her there are two. She then replies, "Oh, I thought you were coming with your girlfriends. Tonight is couple's night!"

The two foxes exchange glances. R.C. then speaks, "Um we didn't know. We're both single and yeah. Maybe we can find some single ladies here?"

"Oh ok, come this way then" She grabs a couple menus and takes the two to a four top booth. The two sit down across from each other and grab menus. Browsing through the menus, the two exchange glances at each other every so often, each one running thoughts through their minds. The silence is broken when the waitress comes to take their orders. Joey orders chicken parmesan while R.C. orders beef ravioli.

"So Skykid, what convinced you to want to meet me?" R.C. asks the fennec.

"Well, you seem like a nice fox and you're quite well known in the scene. You also seem like a great friend to be with." He replies back.

"Thanks, heh. Yeah we can be friends. I don't see anything wrong with that." R.C. gets a bit nervous again looking around.

"That's cool, everything ok? You seem a bit worried about something." The fennec notices that R.C. is looking around and not making direct eye contact.

"Yeah, I just have a lot on my mind. Plus I never really look directly at anyone. I have issues with keeping focus." R.C. quickly answers covering up the real reason he's nervous. He looks around and then back at Joey. Just as he's about to say something, the food comes. "Ah, yes, I am hungry and this looks nice!"

The two remain mostly quiet as they chow down aside from a few quips about the food being really nice and the usual "good" responses to the waitress who keeps checking on them every few moments. R.C. keeps looking ay Joey and wondering about things to come. He still shows signs of being nervous over the thoughts of a possible relationship. The two foxes finish up their meals and then the check comes. R.C. grabs it just as Skykid does and the two inadvertently grab paws. R.C. freezes dead in his tracks and slowly looks up. Then he whips his paw back. "I'm sorry um. I got this?" R.C. says.

"No, let me get this please? You drove all the way out here, at least let me repay you." Joey says back without hesitation or realizing the fact that he grabbed the younger fox's paw.

R.C. looks back and nods, "Yeah, I guess that's fair. Thank you. "He then looks at his touched paw a little, checking his pink pads out and rubbing them lightly. The fox thinks to himself, "He touched my paw, it was an accident. I have to know now." He then asks the fennec, "Joey, you uh..."

"Yeah R.C.?" Skykid quickly interrupts.

"um have a girlfriend?" R.C. rapidly finishes and looks away again.

"Well, no, but there's something you should understand about me." Joey replies. "I hope you don't get upset at me over this, I usually get rejected."

"Oh? Well, I guess you can tell me, I won't run away, but I don't know how I'll react to be honest. I'm still a mess after my last break-up." R.C. replies.

"This may be better for the car, you ready to go?" Joey stands up with the bill about ready to pay at the front register.

"Ok, yeah it's only 5:45 PM, we got time." R.C. gets up and follows the fennec to the register. "Who would think that we would be here on a couple's night, what place does that on Labor Day?"

"I don't know?" Joey says handing the cashier cash for the bill. He receives his change and the two head out to the car. The two hop in and then prep to go.

"R.C., ok I have to tell you something. I'm bi." The fennec lowers his head expecting a backlash.

"Bi what? What are you telling me?" The fox asks.

"I like guys and girls. I just had bad experiences with girls so I opened up. I had dated a guy before, but that ended a couple months ago." The fennec looks like he wants to cry and keeps his head lowered.

"Oh, well I kind of got that from you. I was told about it by my one friend, not sure if you know him, Joey 3?" The younger fox replies.

"Oh I know him, he's very nice. I didn't know if he would tell you because he was afraid you would react badly." Joey says somewhat inhibited.

"Joey, I'm ok with what or how you are. It doesn't bother me a bit. I just..." R.C. stumbles a bit. "just am cool with it, yeah."

"Oh ok, I knew you would be a good friend. Say, can we go to Renzie Park? I wanna walk a bit" the older fennec asks nicely.

"Yeah, sure." R.C. starts the car and makes his way there.

At the park, R.C. parks the car. Joey looks over and pokes the fox.

"Eeep! Hey, careful!" R.C. exclaims!

"R.C., look at me for a second, please...I have something to tell you." Skykid looks at the fox happily. R.C. turns his head to look. As he looks at the fennec in the face, Skykid moves his head close to R.C. and lets his muzzle come in contact with R.C.'s muzzle. He then kisses the younger fox. R.C. is stunned as the fennec locks lips with him. He then breaks the kiss with R.C. moving back with a inquisitive look. R.C. is stunned beyond words and sits there staring back with a worried look.

"R.C.? I'm sorry...I hope you're not mad at me." Joey slowly asks. "I wasn't sure..."

"Joey...I uh...I well...I just..." the fox stutters trying to find composure, "I just don't know...but..."

The two stare at each other in silence for a moment, until R.C. gets enough composure. He opens his maw to speak...
