Alcrose - Chapter Eleven

Not going to say much about this one, I stated my feelings on the note in chapter ten.
As always, ratings, faves, and comments are appreciated. Just please keep the criticism constructive as always!
Styrr looked over at Zynnis cautiously after Trip left, not sure whether to try and strike up a conversation, worried that all it would do would provoke Zynnis into a rage. He didn't want that, it would make his stay much less enjoyable than he would like it to be, but also realized that the awkward silence would drive him slowly into madness, "So, about that, I'm not really sure what else to say, but I didn't see the harm in being honest."
Zynnis scoffed and produced a beer from the fridge, this time drinking it slowly, knowing that intoxication wouldn't make his day any better, but only worse, "Your honesty is going to make my life that much harder. Now the sexual tension is going to be so great that I'm going to have to have sex with you." His comment was dripping with sarcasm and he wasn't going to even try to hide it.
The dragon didn't know if Zynnis was serious, or being sarcastic, either way, that outcome would be fine with him, "Oh? I'd be alright with that. Going to do it here? Or in a bunk? Maybe the floor would be more suited for you."
Zynnis resisted the urge to throw his bottle, "You know, just when I thought you couldn't get more irritating." He opened his mouth to continue, but didn't finish his thought. He instead stood, and walked out of the room, leaving Styrr to his own thoughts without another word, or any indication as to what was planned next for their day.
Styrr didn't mind it though, he sat back and relaxed, smiling as he thought about what he could do to the little hybrid if given the chance. His drink was still unfinished, and he quickly finished it, setting the empty glass on the table and standing up, patting his shirt and pants, making sure he had everything, before leaving the room quietly and walking back the way they had came, towards Zynnis' and Trip's office. He had unanswered questions, and knew that Trip did as well.
He let his mind wander during the short walk back to the office that he had begun to enjoy being in, why, he didn't know. Most of his thoughts went to the commander, his mind going to the places they usually did when he was sex was on his mind. The hybrid was quite the attractive male, in every way possible, but the fact that his short stature, but large personality canceled each other out in an odd way was probably the most attractive part of the Commander. It was how he liked males, at least the ones he wanted more than just for his usual one night evenings.
"Can I help you Mr. Kinster?" Trip was eying the dragon questioningly.
Styrr noticed that his walk was over and slowly snapped his thoughts back to reality, "Ah, I'm sorry Director, my mind was wandering and I didn't realize I had gotten here so quickly," The Dragon slowly sat in front of the desk and looked Trip in the eyes, "And please, call me Styrr. At this point, I find formalities to be more of a bother than useful."
The large wolf nodded, "Agreed, but again I ask, is there anything I can help you with? This is quite the unexpected visit. I assumed you and Zynnis would still be back in the observation deck having hot, sweaty, feral sex." Trip chuckled to himself, that would be quite a sight actually, and one he would be sad to miss seeing.
Styrr held back the urge to roll his eyes, "You struck up that conversation on purpose. Are you trying to drive a deeper wedge between me and the commander? If you are, then I can assure you it's working. I swear I saw him about to throw his drink at me, and I didn't think he wasted booze."
"He doesn't, not unless he's overly angry," Trip shut down his computer and leaned back in his chair, "Rest assured, he's not mad at you, unless you said something stupid. He's irritated with me, I'm sure the fact that he knows that you wouldn't mind getting in the sack with him is going to put a lot of thoughts into that whorish head of his."
Styrr could only chuckle, the fact was, the conversation managed to do the same to him, "You know, you could easily say that the relationship you two share, working or personal, is terribly odd. I've never seen anything like it, and trust me Trip, I've seen almost everything in my long life."
Trip shrugged, he didn't really care too much what the Dragon thought, he had gotten what he needed, though it seemed that unfortunately the information that he should have had, wasn't in his hands, "I believe you owe me a data disk Styrr," He didn't mind changing the conversation to something different, his relationship with Zynnis, working or otherwise, was their business, and their business alone.
The dragon couldn't keep himself from rolling his eyes this time, "That had already been given to Zynnis. Surprisingly, he actually had read our contract and asked for it before we headed out for our very early morning drinks."
"It's not surprising actually. He usually reads everything that gets put in front of him, but that's the real trick now isn't it. It's hard to get him to actually sit down for a second and do real work." Trip sighed and kicked his legs up on the desk, it seemed that however hard he tried, the conversation was going to continue getting away from work, "So what's the real reason you're in my office?"
Styrr shrugged, "Honestly, I was bored. Zynnis left shortly after you did, and I figured we could talk a bit and get to know one another a little bit better. I know it's only a business relationship, but I always hope that with things like this, it could be a bit more than that. I don't mind having friends. Don't have too many of those now that I think about it. Seems that everyone around me is gunning for my head, and those that aren't are simply looking for a paycheck." Another honest truth, he didn't know if he should stop with those, they seem to keep getting him trouble, but Trip wasn't quite as hot headed as Zynnis, so he hoped that it wouldn't cause too many problems.
"Fair enough, what was it you wanted to talk about. I'm a pretty open guy, most of the time," Trip was curious again about the Dragon. There was more going on in that head of his than Styrr was going to admit, and he knew it.
"I'm not sure I believe everything you said about your origins, it seems a little farfetched to be honest," Styrr was rubbing his jaw slowly, thinking about the story he was given, it was a little bit crazy, but he had heard worse.
"Well, I'll stand by it, and so will Zynnis," Trip was holding back a sigh, things happened the way they happened and no matter what he could of said or done, it was most likely for the best, "It's not as crazy as you might think, it happens in this galaxy all the time, maybe not the way it ended up, but the beginning part." Trip sighed and looked at the clock, the day was going by too slow, and it was still early afternoon, he wasn't really willing to have these long, drawn out conversations today.
Styrr nodded and looked around the large office, his eyes being drawn towards the fridge, but quickly decided he wasn't hungry or thirsty, "I find that I'm still not sure how Zynnis feels about me, and it's unnerving to say the least. I can't tell if he hates, loathes me, or it's somewhere in between. I'm actually scared that I might wake up one morning with a blade in my body."
Trip laughed genuinely at the Dragon's comment, "He's not that stupid, he's more scared of me than he will let on," The wolf scratched the back of his neck, "I think he likes you to be honest, which is why he spends so much time treating you like shit. Most of the time when he doesn't like someone, he tends to rip them a new one once, and then no longer recognizes their existence."
"I'm sure you have influenced a lot of that though. Without you here to contain his crazy nature, he'd probably have thrown me out of an airlock." The Dragon sighed and looked at his watch idly, he didn't have anywhere to go, but it was his way of taking a minute to think, "I can't come to the logical conclusion that he actually finds my own existence even remotely tolerable."
"No, I don't think that's the case here. He would have done as I had asked, but he wouldn't have done it quite as well. You annoy him, don't think you don't, but he would be treating you entirely differently if you didn't click with him at all." The wolf stretched and smiled at the dragon, "To be entirely truthful, I think he has some pent up sexual frustration going on involving you. If I didn't know better, I'd say you two would make a perfect match in the sack."
The dragon sighed again, it was those type of thoughts that caused issues, specifically between him and the Commander, "See, and that's where the problems begin."
"It's because it's the truth, and he doesn't care much for the truth. He has the delusion that everything he says and does is right, and the word of god. It wouldn't be so bad, but for the fact that he imposes that thinking on everyone else around him." The wolf rubbed at his chest idly, "I find that it works to his advantage when it really matters, but when it doesn't it becomes a useless and honestly quite annoying practice. Don't get me wrong, he's good at what he does, but sometimes we all just need a break from it."
Styrr nodded his agreement and decided to turn the conversation towards something different. He didn't like the fact that Zynnis acted the way he did, and probably wouldn't learn to get over it, but that didn't mean he couldn't find a way to cope, "So, do you think he has gone through that data yet? I think that there may be a few interesting items on that list that you might want to check out."
The wolf shrugged, "I highly doubt he has even opened the file, actually, I think I might have him send me that data now," He removed his legs and feet from the desk and turned his computer back on, typing a quick message to his boss, knowing that it would be responded to quickly, "Might as well get some real work done today."
The dragon chuckled and patted rubbed his paws together, it was nice to talk about things work related, "There were at least three hits on that disk that are about an eighty-six percent match to the sorts of planets you are looking for, and one that is nearly ninety-one percent. I did some looking around on that single hit, and it seems that it lays unclaimed, and still mostly uninhabited."
The wolf smiled as he got a notification in the middle of his screen, "Just got it. There is one thing I can say about him, when I ask for something that takes less than a minute to do he gets it done quickly," The wolf opened up the file he was looking for and began to scan the screen, "What designation and I looking for?"
The dragon pulled out his own PDA from his pocket and tapped at it shortly, "DH-4215, that one was my top hit."
Trip pecked at his keyboard and smiled as he saw the planet specifications pop up, "It looks good actually. It's about a four day trip from here, but not too far off of the already planned route. I think we can do something with it. I'll have the admiral plot it into his jump course at the end of the day."
Styrr happily nodded and returned his PDA to his pocket, "Now, what happens if it turns out to be what you are looking for?"
"Well, first and foremost we're going to scout it. If Zynnis is mostly healed by then he and his team will be the first to step foot on it. I'm hoping he will be, he tends to get antsy when he's on board for more than a week at a time, and at that point, bad things start to happen." The wolf tapped a few more keys on his screen and quickly flipped his feet back up on the desk happily.
"I see, do you usually get off ship for something like that? Or do you mainly stay on board."
"It all depends on the threat index. Chances are I'll make the trip in the shuttle, but that doesn't mean I'll leave it. They'll do about a half days worth of recon and then let me know after that. We've had so many unexpected encounters in the past that I find that I'm just not properly prepared for. We've had our fair share of close calls when it comes to me, and I prefer to keep those in the past." The wolf was scratching at his leg, obviously getting bored with the conversation, "If you're still here by that time, I'm sure he'll bitch and moan about the decision, but you're more than welcome to be a part of that, with your past military training and all."
"You're not going to let that go are you?" Styrr sighed and decided to open up a bit more about his past to calm the Wolfs curiosity, "Early in my life I did my fair share of tours in the military. It wasn't the career choice for me, and I got tired of it, so I stopped. I'm a formidable warrior, but it's not quite what I enjoy. Give me the option of sneaking around quietly and poking my nose where it ought not be, and you have a happy dragon, a much better career choice for me I think."
"I'll go ahead and pretend I believe that Styrr. I know when I'm being told half truths, but eventually I'll figure it out," Trip was good at getting the information he wanted, even if he had to gather it slowly over time. He was patient, and that was why he was so good at his job, "I usually get what I want in the end, whether you'll realize it or not is all up to you."
Styrr chuckled and stood, "I think I'll retire for the time being Trip. I enjoyed our conversation. I think we've managed to further our relationship for the better. Now if only I can do the same with Zynnis."
The wolf almost laughed loudly in the Dragon's face, "You have fun with that. If that's your goal, you are going to be sorely disappointed with how long it's going to take that to happen."
The Dragon shrugged and turned after a brief nod, "I suppose we'll cross paths again here soon. Never fails that something draws us together, whether it be my insistence, or the commanders brash actions. I hope you enjoy your evening."
With that, Trip only leaned back and sighed, closing his eyes and hoping that he wouldn't have to deal with anyone for a while. He needed to get some real work done.
