Chapter 7

The sensation of icy cold water splashing on his face awoke Miktes from his short nap on the ceremony room floor. Sputtering from the water going up his nose the dazed warrior slowly opened his eyes, the faces of several temple attendants staring down back at him in worry greeting him. "W-What happened?" He said sluggishly. Sitting up abruptly Miktes did a quick visual search around the room, coming to a stop when he saw the open back door which le outside.

"That's right... one of those things hit me!" The redhead said with a growl. Rubbing his sore jaw the Verdomian tilted his head from left to right his next giving a crack which made everyone else around him cringe. "Must have been a real big fucker too. Knocking a strong guy like me on my ass like that." Miktes glanced around the room for his mate to be. He hoped she hadn't seen him get knocked out, it wouldn't look right. When he didn't find her or her father for that matter he turned to the attendants. "What happened to Ocher and her old man?"

The gathering of submissives all gave each other nervous looks as if afraid to speak. Finally one of them grew brave enough to hesitantly take a step forward and answer. "They-they've left Chief's Son Miktes." She explained.

"Left!?" Miktes unsteadily got to his feet and shook his fist at the woman, his temper building and his voice rising. "What do ya mean she left!" He shouted. "We're 'spose to be getting mated. Neither of us ain't allowed to leave this room until we're bounded!"

"B-b-but that's just the p-problem my liege when the intruder b-bumped into you-"

Before the stuttering Verdomian could finish her sentence the doors behind them swung open and a very concerned looking Daleer strode in flanked by six heavily armed temple guards. His eyes going straight to his son the older man rushed over to him and wrapped his arms around the warrior as best he could, drawing him into a hug. "I am so glad you are safe." He said into Miktes' neck. "I heard that the intruders had come in here and I was frightened that they might have hurt you or the others."

"You think I can't handle a pair of creatures that puny!" Miktes said pushing his father off of him and scowling at the man. "I'm a warrior not some youngling with his changing cloth around his waist."

Daleer gave a soft sigh, his son was defiantly alright. Only a well Miktes could be so disrespectful and rude all at the same time. "I know you are a grown man my son. But still..." As he had begun speaking Daleer had slowly let his eyes travel up his son's body, double checking for any bruises. When the older man finally came to Miktes' face he realized to his horror that the blindfold his son was supposed to be wearing was gone. "MIKTES!!" Daleer panicked. "W-What happened to you blindfold? Did you remove it after I specifically told you not to?"

"Calm down father it just got knocked off when the fat intruder crashed into me." Miktes said casually. Looking around their feet he found the discarded strip of cloth and picked it up. "I'll just put it on again and me and Ocher can get mated like we planned."

Suddenly Daleer reached up and roughly took Miktes' face in his hands. Pulling the younger man down until they were eye to eye he stared deeply into his son's eyes. When they flickered with a strange blue glowing light the Verdomian chief gasped. "By the strangers..."

Miktes blinked back at his father at a loss as to the tone in his voice. "Washt?" He asked while his cheeks were being squeezed.

"Listen to me Miktes this is important." Daleer started his voice deadly serious. "Was the first person you made eye contact with after you drank from the vial Ocher or the creature that bumped into you?"

A tinge of embarrassment showing Miktes glared down at his feet remembering how he had reacted when the intruder had burst into the room. "The creature." He answered with a huff. "Bastard ran right into me and then sat there on my chest afterwards staring at me." Looking back up the younger man was alarmed by the look of horror in his father's expression. "Is there something- "AHH!"." An intense pain hitting him Miktes fell to one knee his heart feeling like it were being crushed in someone's hand. "W-Why does my chest hurt?"

Getting down on his knees next to his son, Daleer placed his hand on his shoulder. "It hurts because you are going through separation aches."

"H-Huh?" The pain seemed to be getting stronger with every moment. It was almost making Miktes dizzy from the intensity. "What the hell do you mean separation aches?"

"Remember the vial I made you drink from?" Daleer waited until Miktes gave him a shaky nod in response. "The sacred water it contained is used to start the process which binds a mated couple in both body and soul. Because of that the couple must stay within a short distance from each other for their first few weeks they are mated or else there will be great blinding pain until they reunite."

"If that true then get Ocher back here!" Miktes snapped. Growling the warrior tried to get to his feet only to slip, his father catching him before he fell to the floor. "This pain is unbearable! Bring me my female."

"Having Ocher here will not help you Miktes." The older man said sadly.

"Why won't it? She's my mate remember."

"That's just it! Ocher of the Woncig clan has not become your mate!" Daleer peered up from his son to the open door which led outside. "That creature, whose eyes you look into is now your mate now. And I'm afraid if you do not go and catch him your pain will only increase until the point where it overwhelms you and you die in agony."

{Miktes: As what my father said to me sank into my mind I started to get scared, really, really scared. And I'll tell you now, Miktes of Hestry clan doesn't often feel like that. I could actually die from this pain? I have to go find that strange creature and drag him back. Both so that I can stop this fucking aching in my body and so that he can answer to me for ruining my life. We're stuck together now; most likely forever and I'll be dammed if I'm just going to let that thing run off. I'm the dominate here and my submissive mate is going to learn his or her place.}

Sneering in the direction of the outside entryway Miktes hobbled over to it best he could. "Miktes where are you going?" Daleer called after his son.

"Where the hell do you think?" The younger man shouted back. "I'm going to go get that thing that ruined my life and bring him back."

Daleer opened his mouth to stop his prodigy but held his tongue at the last second. Miktes was right he needed to go and find the intruder. But he wasn't going to go along. "Guards!" The six who had come into the room with the chief all snapped to attention. "Arm my son and help him to find the intruder."

"Yes sir!!" The Temple guards all shouted as one. In a flurry of movement the group of men surged forward, helping Miktes to fully get to his feet and giving the struggling male one of their people's signature weapons.

Gripping his hunting weapon in hand Miktes gave his father a determined shake of his head. "I'll be back soon father." He said before him and the guards exited out of the temple, chasing after the intruders.

***************

[Barnabus: By god my chest ached. It was almost as bad as the time I went on a bender at that bar with the hot sauce tequila shots. And the further we got away from that temple and those Verdomians the worst it got. I really hope I didn't hurt anything when I bumped into that red headed one. And if so why didn't I notice I was hurt when I was laying there on top of him. It must be because I was so distracted staring into those weird red eyes of his. There was just something about them that instantly made me feel weird. Like I had known him all my life. Whatever it was I'm glad it's over. Coming face to ugly face with one of those aliens is enough to last me a lifetime. I'll be happy once we blast off of this planet.]

The underbrush of the jungle somehow seemed thicker to Barnabus as he and Rana made their way through it. Then again that might of just been because they were running blind, trying their best to put distance between them and the mob of no doubt enraged Verdomians hunting them down.

As he struggled behind his companion, Barnabus let out several grunts. The pain emanating from his chest coursing through his body in waves as he made each step. 'Dam this isn't good." He said to himself. "It feels like I'm dying.' not paying attention to where he was stepping the pained Jack tripped over an exposed root and tumbled to the jungle floor, a cry of panic coming from his as he came to a skidding stop.

"Barnabus!" Rana shouted seeing her friend rolling on the ground. Showing concern she rushed over to her fallen captain and rolled him over onto his back. "What's wrong? We have to keep moving."

"M-My chest Rana." Barnabus managed to get out between intakes of hard breaths.

Instantly becoming scared at the thought of Barnabus being hurt Rana reached for the hem of his black t-shirt and pulled up the well-worn fabric, exposing the middle-aged man's bare stomach and chest. "Did one of the guards get you?" She asked looking him over. When all she found was untarnished hairy skin she gave Barnabus a confused look. "There's not a scratch here."

"It's inside of my chest." Barnabus clarified. Trying to show what he meant he pointed to his heart. "Here! It hurts here?"

Rana gave him a worried look. Was he having a heart attack? It couldn't be, Barnabus wasn't the healthiest eater but he did take care of himself. Formulating a quick plan the dark haired woman pulled out her P.A.D.. "Barnabus... I'm going to call Alfred and Moah and tell them to bring the ship around." She told him. It was risky bringing the Wild Comet so close to the Verdomian settlement but they had no other choice. "Will you be alright until then?"

Barnabus nodded his head. "Yeah do it."

Rana wasted no more time dialing Alfred's number and waiting as her P.A.D. connected them. Within a few seconds the screen lit up and the youngest member of their crew's face appeared. "Oh, Hello Rana!" He said in a chipper voice. "How's your mission coming along? Did you find the temple yet? Hey when you get back we got a surprise for the Captain! We found a copy of that old movie he's been wanting to see, Kung-fu Furillians at the outpost! In fact me and Moah are sitting down right now watching it."

"Alfred please stop talking for a second would you?" Rana said with a nervous gulp. "Yes the mission went well. We got the dammed rock we were sent here to get but we were caught." The panicking young woman had to stop her explanation as Barnabus let out another moan of pain. "W-We're hiding out in the jungle right now and we need you and Moah to start up the ship and come and get us."

Alfred looked alarmed over the video screen. "But Rana if we get too close to the Verdomian village they might see us." He said. Being seen by the primitive inhabitants of the planet would no doubt interrupt the natural development of their culture.

"Just do it!" Rana shouted at the screen. Quickly she faced her device to Barnabus who was still writhing in pain. "Barnabus need medical attention and you're the only one in the star system that doesn't use voodoo and a rattling staff I bet."

Seeing his captain in such pain instantly threw away any concerns Alfred had of being seen by the Verdomians. "Me and Moah will be right there in five minutes ma'am." The medic saluted over the P.A.D.

Rana had to resist the urge to snap at the young man for calling her "ma'am", but pushed her feelings aside. "Good... I'll send the coordinates to a clearing we passed on the way here." After imputing the coordinates into her device Rana gave a quick goodbye and ended the call. Getting down onto the ground the Middle-Eastern woman got behind Barnabus and placed his head on her lap. "Don't worry the guys will be here any second." She said brushing back a strand of Barnabus' hair.

"Thanks Rana." Barnabus said with a chuckle. He got a pained grin on his face. "You know if I were straight I'd probably marry you since you're always watching out for my ass so much. You'd make the perfect wife."

The Jack captains comment earned him a snort from his second in command. "Well if I was into chubby old men I'd... well I still wouldn't marry you." Rana replied back. When Barnabus gave her a raised eyebrow she snickered. "Hey I got standards here Comet. Besides if we did get hitched, you'd be sneaking off to screw the milk man before the first week was out." Noticing that the color was starting to return to her companion' face Rana asked. "How are you feeling now Barnabus?"

Barnabus tapped his chest where the pain had been coming from. "You know... I think I'm starting to feel better." He said in confusion. The throbbing in his chest had been mind numbing, it shouldn't have just vanished like that. "It's still there a little, but not as bad. Maybe it'll pass in a-"

"GRAG AVESH ZUZAN MIKTES!" A gruff shout sounded from somewhere behind the duo. Growing quiet both Jacks started to hear more sounds, angry growls and shouts that seemed to be growing closer as the seconds went by.

"Shit the Verdomians!" Sitting up Barnabus used a nearby tree trunk to carefully help him stand. "Come on we got to get out of here."

"But you're still in pain." Rana said running in front of him.

Barnabus began walking forward, passing Rana with a small smile. "Yeah, but we don't have a choice hun." He said over his shoulder. "Those angry natives are who knows how close to finding us."

Rana wanted to stop him but knew he was right. The green skinned orcs they had stolen from were still after them. Rushing up to the older man she wormed her way under his arm and put it over her shoulders, allowing him to use her as a crutch as they continued on their way.

"Thanks Rana that's helps a lot." Barnabus said with a smile as they continued. Walking slowly through tropical trees and vegetation it took the duo no small amount of time to get to where they were going. Both of them stepping out of the trees and into a large clearing with a small pond at its corner. Looking up when they heard the sounds of a starship's thrusters, both Barnabus and Rana letting out twin sighs of relief as the Wild Comet came into view and slowly descended towards them.

"Thank goodness." Rana said as the ship touch down. Helping Barnabus over to the vessel she was even more thankful when the cargo bay doors came down and both Alfred and Moah ran out of the back rushing over to them as fast as their feet could carry them.

As soon as he was close enough Alfred began his medial inspection. The blond leaning down and making Barnabus look him in the eyes before he checked his pulse. "How long have you been like this?" He asked.

"Ever since I stumbled into one of the Verdomians back at the temple." Barnabus replied. Looking up he gave his friend a concerned look. "But there's isn't any bruise or anything. The pain is coming from inside of my chest."

"Did you eat or drink anything during your mission Captain?" Was Alfred's next question.

Hearing that a light went off in Rana's mind, her memory drifting back to what had happened in the room where they had stolen the artifact from. "Barnabus, remember? You fell into a pool of weird blue liquid when we were stealing the thing for the professor." She turned to Alfred. "He... he said he swallowed a little bit of it."

Alfred gave a whimper. That certainly wasn't good. Luckily he had an extensive collection of chemicals that he could synthesize an antidote for whatever was ailing the older man. "Ok got it, Moah pick the Captain up and bring him to my lab, hurry!"

"Yaggho!" The Girunjh responded imminently. Giving Barnabus a worried expression the large man reached down and lifted the heavyset human into his arms like he weighed nothing. Spinning around he then began jogging towards the ship Rana and Alfred in hot pursuit.

"I'm going to go and start up the takeoff guys while you see to Barnabus, ok?" Rana announced as they entered the ship. "We'll be leaving the atmosphere in five minutes." Not waiting for a reply from the rest of the crew the dark haired woman ran off towards the cockpit so that they could leave the planet. She just hoped there was enough time for her to prep the ship for space travel and avoid the incoming mob of Verdomians that were right on their tails.

***************

Making their way through the jungle Miktes couldn't help the grumbling that escaped his tusked mouth. Imagine him, the firstborn of the Hestry clan having to use some lowly guard as support. But he knew that there was no other choice if they were going to find there thieves. He couldn't even walk properly let alone chase after his wayward mate with the pain in his chest. "Will you move faster?" He ordered the older man assigned to escort him during the manhunt.

"Sorry Chief's Son Miktes." The guard said honestly as they continued to move. "I'm trying my best."

Miktes growled in annoyance. Obviously this man's best wasn't good enough. "Well try harder... um; what was your name again?"

The guard got an extremely hurt look at the warrior's question. "I'm Falomeld, we have actually met before. During you coming of age ceremony."

Miktes gave the man helping him a closer look. He did look vaguely familiar. Thinking back to that night Miktes had to shift through a lot of different events. Taking the oath of the warrior, his father and mother giving him his first hunting weapon, several long speeches, a large feast, then he and several other young Verdomians fooled around. It was then that he remembered the older man he had his arm around.

Falomeld had been the name of one of his various sexual experiences that night. He remembered being surprised when the other man had approached him and offered to share himself. The image of the male removing his loincloth and getting onto all fours so that Miktes could mount him would forever be burned into his mind. The red head also remembered how Falomeld had moaned and wagged his backside begging shamelessly for more.

At the time Miktes hadn't thought it strange believing that his temporary friend was just being an eager little submissive. But if Falomeld was a guard then that meant that he was a dominate. They were the only ones allowed to have the job. Giving the man under his arm a confused look Miktes asked him a question. "You're a dominate, why did you let me fuck you?" He said in-between groans of pain.

Falomeld seemed to blush. "Because I admired you and felt like I would enjoy it." He replied simply. "I was hoping that maybe you'd like to be friends or playmates afterwards. But it was a foolish thought.' He shook his head ruefully. "My loneliness didn't last long though. I was bounded to my beautiful mate a season later and she bore me two wonderful younglings."

Miktes had stopped listening to his escort's short story after he had gotten the answer he was looking for. As if he would befriend a dominate who was willing to submitted the way Falomeld had. There was supposed to be play fighting which led to the winner taking the loser. To just submit without a struggle was seen as weakness on a dominate's part. Still the guard had been a good "bedmate", Miktes could still clearly remember the way he had trembled on his cock as he drove into him. It was usually something that he thought of often when he felt like masturbating. But strangely those dirty thoughts didn't have the same response they used to have on the warrior. Instead of getting hard he was disinterested in continuing to try and remember more.

A shout from up ahead broke the ailing warrior's line of thoughts. "I've found their trail Chief's son Miktes!" A warrior announced. Everyone quickly gathering behind the man, they all looked ahead to a series of footprints and small broken branches.

Growing excited Miktes pushed his way out of Falomeld's grasp and walked slowly over to the path. "Good, let's hurry and get that bastard and get home." He growled. He turned to the others in the party and frowned as they all stared back at him dumbly. "What are you all waiting for?"

"Aren't you still feeling the separation pains Chief's Son Miktes?" One of the guards asked.

Miktes looked down at his body. The idiot was right; the pain in his chest had lessened to the point where he could move again. That could only mean that they were very close to where his mate was. Smirking at his soon to be victory the young warrior began running down that path they had discovered, completely ignoring the cries of protest from the temple guards as he left them behind. He didn't need them he didn't need anybody. Well, not counting the creature that had suddenly become his mate. When he finally did find the little thief he was going to make sure it was sorry for daring to just run off like it did. Imagine leaving him in pain, the creature should be thanking its lucky stars that it bumbled its way into becoming a part of his house.

Making his way through the jungle, dodging trees and jumping over exposed roots, Miktes quickly found himself coming out into a large clearing. As he cleared the treeline the young Verdomian was shocked to see a strange building at its center. A large oddly shaped thing which bellowed steam from downward chimneys on its bottom. Looking at it in confusion Miktes cocked his head to the side.

"Isn't this that meadow I hide in when father tries to make me walk around the village with him." The warrior asked out loud. Yes, he was sure of it. But he had never seen the strange dwelling in all his visits. Whatever it was it didn't matter, sniffing the air Miktes picked up the telltale scents of the creature that had bounded itself to him. Strangely he felt himself become aroused at the smell, his member awakening in his ceremonial shorts. And that made him excited like a predator finding his pray.

"So you're in there are you!?" With a predatory growl Miktes sprinted over to the unusual house, not noticing that as he took off something bright and shiny fell out of his pocket and landed on the soft grass of the meadow.

Not even thinking about the consequences of his actions Miktes ran up the ramp at the back of the building and entered the building with a roar, he'd scare his mate for running off without his permission. However instead of a surprised gasp what met him was something that dwarfed anything else he had ever seen in his life time. Not even the chamber of the elders with its glowing waterfalls and giants statues had such wonders. Inside of the structure there were numerous metal boxes with strange writing on them which glowed from tiny points at their corners. Along the walls were more lights of every color and hue which flickered off and one irregularly. Then there was the most amazing thing. Right in front of him was a window which somehow had of a pair of tiny furry creatures fighting inside of it and talking in some strange language.

As the Verdomian warrior took cautious steps towards the vid-screen in front of him, a sense of wonder and awe about him a very different mood was settling in the sick bay of the Wild Comet. Downstairs a very worried Moah carefully placed his captain on one of the two beds which were housed in the white and sterile room. "Mugoo narsan tyfor gunbar?" He said looking back to Alfred as the medic looked through a small book.

"What did he say?" Barnabus asked getting up on his elbows.

"He asked if you're going to be alright." Alfred said distracted. Going over to a cabinet the blond opened it and quickly took out a vial. After giving it a shake he inserted it into his medical jet-injector and went over to Barnabus. "Ok I think I know how to keep you from dying Captain."

"Well that's reassuring." Barnabus joked.

Alfred flinched as if he had been wounded but continued working. He knew the captain was only teasing him. "Sorry." he apologized none the less. Pushing up the sleeve of the older man's shirt, Alfred pressed the end of the jet-injector against the Jack's skin and fired it, a stream of chemicals injecting into Barnabus' body. "There, now what I just gave you will slow down your metabolism and keep you alive long enough for me to run some tests and find out what's wrong? Only problem is that it's going to knock you out. Sorry about that Captain."

Barnabus waved his youngest crewmember's concern off. Alfred was always worrying that he would mess up so bad that they would all kick him out on the street. "That's fine kid. I could use a good nap after all that running." Sighing as he felt his eyes began to droop Barnabus laid back down. "Wake me up when breakfast is ready, alright?" He cracked.

Moah gave the human a toothy grin. "Yaggho" He answered with a thumbs up. Together Alfred and Moah watched as Barnabus closed his eyes and fell into a deep sleep both of them relieved that their trustworthy leader was now safe and sound in their ship.

Back in the cargo hold Miktes was starting to wobble, a sudden tiredness falling over his whole body like the time he had drank six jugs of wine during a festival. "What the hell...?" He wondered. Leaving the flashing glass window he staggered a few steps backwards. "Why am I... why am... I s-s-so sleepy...?" Giving a yawn the Verdomian warrior fell, his back making contact with the cold metal floor under him with a dull thwack as his senses left him and he slipped into unconsciousness for the third time that day.
