Shade and Lily
Shade yawned as he stared up at the sky, comfy in the shadow of a old tree. Just waking up from his nap, he looks around to see were he is. The small courtyard of the castle was blocked off on all sides by massive stone walls, if it wasn't for the open sky above anyone would mistake it for a indoor garden. At least, a very minimalistic garden, considering the only thing in the place was grass and the giant tree in the middle. Its outstretched branches covering almost a third of the courtyard with its shadow. The only indication of a way out is the dirt path leading from stone gate to the other.Normally Shade would never relax in a place like this, however this time it was different. This courtyard is in the middle of a old ruined castle, forgotten about by almost all life that has a heartbeat. Outside of the tidy courtyard are nothing but abandoned hallways and rooms, filled with the touch of nature. Truly the courtyard is the most unusual of all the places in this castle, not having any vines, moss or any cracks in the walls. It almost seems as if it is a window to the past."Big brother, how much longer do we have to wait?" Sighed a bored sounding voice from within the branches of the old tree.Shade looked up and chuckled as his little sister lays on a branch, her left leg swaying back and forth, "Till he gives us a sign Lily... We have been through this time and time again, why do you persist in looping like a old record?"Lily tosses a green apple at her brother, having it land directly on his chest, making his breath pulse out lands with a loud thump, "Because Shade, I feel as if he is taking to long on his endeavour. Does he truly need to find us a new place to call home? This has always been our home, and I know from reading our family records that this inter region is under our control.""Yes well every crow shall fly, same as how every person someday dies. You knew long ago that we were going to leave our homeland, so do not act like such a child. It is so unlike you.""Oh please, as if it is unlike me." Lily jumps down the branch she was resting in. Her whister hair and shining in the light. She swishes her white black tipped tail as she turns, her fox ears twitching as the wind from her jumps catches with her. She softly holds her small white dress down, dusting it off. Lily's body looks like that of a ten year old girl, despite her abnormal fox ears and tail, her skin shinning a white paleness. It is not however even close to as pale as her brother's."Well it is unlike you, just because you look like a child does not mean you have to act like one." Shade chuckles as he picks up the apple that fell on his chest, rubbing it against his shirt to clean it as he takes a bite out of it."Oh really, with that logic you are saying that a dog does not have to act like a dog and a cloud does not have to act like a cloud. They are who they are so they should act like it, it is the
natural law." Pouted Lily, crossing her arms as she glare at her brother, her bright green eyes staring straight at his face.Shade only chuckles at this, "By that logic all animals should act like animals, So all the Anthros and Humans in the world should crawl on all fours and ravage each other to pieces. Dear sister, everyone is a individual, they live life as their own, time is just a illusion in life.""So by that sentence you are implying that if everyone is a individual and they are all different. You are saying that no two people could possibly be the same, yet they are also within the same species.""Why yes, how very observant." Shade chuckles and takes another bite out of his apple."If that were try than why are there servants and kings, rich and poor, the foolish and the wise? If all are different and none are the same than how can two people be called the same name, description, and personalities?""Two people may appear the same sister, but no two souls can ever truly be the same. Individuals are snowflakes dear sister, no two are the same as they float down to the ground, but as they land they become tangled in the masses, and they all appear to be the same.""Oh your logic and philosophy is such a pain to my head I want to punch you in your stupid face..."Shade chuckles and finishes his apple, laying it beside the tree and quickly lifting his sister off the ground. Holding her tightly and kissing her cheek, "Oh Lily do you not see? This is the best part of my philosophy. If it did not make you think about how life works then your head would not hurt so." He chuckles again and smiles.Lily only rolls her eyes at this and sticks out her tiny pink tounge, "Oh just be quiet Shade, you insane chatter would make a kitten mewl with confusion. Now how will we know if our brother is finished with his errand?""We will know once a red leaf falls off of Ol' Wood. You know that, so stop repeating your self. I am starting to suspect you are a parrot instead of a fox girl." He grin and sticks his own tounge back out at her.Lily flicks her ear and points at something behind Shade, "Such as that leaf in your ridiculous cloak?" Shade blinks and pulls his tounge back in to his mouth, turning his head he sees that there is a red leaf in his hood. Putting his fox sister down he reaches back and picks it off of his hood. His expression turning from a happy one to a now dampened and serious face. "Yes... Like this one...""Well I suppose we should get going should we not?" Lily asks, a mocking tone in her voice."Yes let us go... You at least remember what to do correct?" Shade asks, pulling his hood over his head and holding his hand out to her."Yes big brother, once we reach the split in the road I shall wait for our cousin Vine Rot. He shall bring us to our new home." She smiles and holds his hand, hear tail wrapping around his arm tightly.Shade nods
and they start to walk out of the courtyard. Walking slowly through the old ruined hallways of their old home. Tears shedding by both as they journey through memories that they will leave behind. Knowing fully well that this may be the last moment they spend together for a long time. Brother and sister both walk out of their once beutiful home, hand in hand. The sun slowly going down as they finally reach a split in the road hours later.Shade crouches down beside Lily and they both embrace, holding each other tightly and crying into each other's shoulders, only to part away soon after. Shade waves goodbye in front of his sister, wiping the tears out of his eyes onto his covered arm. Lily does the same, only using her tail to wipe her's away."Good bye Lily... or would you rather me say your true name?...""No brother... I prefer it... goodbye Shade... I love you dear brother... I hope we shall see each other in person soon.""I love you too dear sister... I hope I shall see you as well."Shade walks away slowly, waving a final goodbye to Lily as she stands on the side of the road. She holds a black piece of cloth close to her, making her feel as if he is close to her as she clutches it. Shade as well clutches a locket he has strung around his neck, inside holds a small self portrait of Lily.'I hope I will survive this journey sister...''I hope Vine Rot gets here soon... I can not stand seeing my brother go off alone...'
