The times had changed, Bai Chen noted as he was hauled from his simple temple outside of the Shuri Castle in Japan to the front of a zoo in New York city. Bai Chen was placed there during his slumber but he was fully conscious through the endeavor, night had fallen after his placement and he yawned loudly upon waking. His stone like body slowly regained its' flesh like form as he stretched his long legs, He was an older foo dog being at rest since he was given life during the early Ming dynasty, He glanced around looking at his new surroundings.

A Foo Dog was able to sense danger from many miles away and protect the place that they were made to protect, Bai Chen grumbled as he was moved without the proper rite he had nothing to protect. This caused the older lion-like creature to have to find something to protect, his instinct and habit compelled him to do justice where he was able. Bai walked down the steps of Bronx Zoo and his head began to throb as he felt someone in danger near by, his feet moved like lightening as he ran to the source. The hard yet smooth stone of the streets felt good to his paws, much better than the cobblestone streets in the outlying districts of Shuri Castle.

Traveling the brightly lit street was fun, even running at full speed he didn't have a single worry of tripping over a poorly fixed stone. "HELP!" Bai was quickly brought out of his thoughts from the loud scream. He found a woman being attacked by a large man with a knife in his hand, the woman was on the ground as the man looked through her purse and removed long strips of paper. Bai walked over to the pair and stood between the woman his ball of life glowed powerfully as it hovered over his head and burst into flames with the close proximity to evil.

"Fàngu? xi?o rén! Y?u méiy?u cóng w? de shìxiàn ?nquán! Bù píngjìng de cóng w? de f?ngbào. W? bái chén, w? huì b?ochí hépíng." Bai shouted at the man, who backed up nervously from the red maned creature speaking a language he didn't understand. The woman screamed even louder as the man spoke, "Fuck dude, what the hell kinda cat is that." Bai opened his mouth and the orb struck the man in his knees with enough force to sweep his legs from under him. As the man hit the floor the orb pressed itself against his head drawing forth a green light as Bai learned all about what the man knew about the world.

"I see." Bai walked to the man and pressed his front paw on his head, "English is the dominant language in this land. I have been touched by the words of Gautama long ago so I will not kill you but you have done much evil in your life, you are in desperate need of enlightenment. I will mete out your punishment, Atone for your actions!" A greenish glow surrounded the man as he screamed, each of his sins was made public, he viewed everything from his first time stealing candy to punching his mother because she didn't leave food out for him when he came home drunk. "Robert Smith, You shall repent by helping someone less fortunate than you. Goodbye and may we meet once you have become a better...person." The man vanished in a green light.

Robert awoke on the ground surrounded by puppies, he looked around and he noticed that there was a large Labrador looking down at him and licking him. He raised a hand to push the dog away and realized that he had a yellow paw. Robert attempted to scream but only a low whine came out as he noticed that he was a yellow dog and the dog in front of him had a collar with a tag that read 'seeing eye dog - retired.' Robert lamented his fate as the large dog that he assumed was his new mother licked his face and doted on him.

Back in New York, Bai turned to the woman and the ball hovered over her. She was uninjured but the ball glowed a soft red. "Maria Lopez. You've hurt many people in your life, I wish to offer you a way out of your life. You've sold your body to men, your body is corrupted with opium, cocaine, and many other unsavory things. You've lead others into your corruption." The woman shivered as Bai walked closer and gave a large growl, "I punish evil with good, I will not hurt you but I ask you if you had a chance to make things different, lead a life of kindness and goodness would you take it?"

Maria scooted back from the foo dog and shivered, "I.. I.. I.. Please don't eat me." She screamed placing her hand over her head and shivering as Bai was only a few feet away from her. The lion gave a snort as the ball rolled around her, "Please..." She whimpered as she slightly uncovered her head and looked up at Bai Chen.

"Answer me. I am to mete out your fate since you have received aid from me and you are not of my temple." Bai grinned happily his wide mouth dripping with saliva, his breath cloudy in the winter air. "I seek an answer now, the night is young and I have a feeling that many of the people of this dynasty are as corrupted as your are." His eyes shimmered with a green shine to them in the various street lights.

"I don't like being on coke, I don't like any of it, I know I'm a fucking slut but I'm not a bad person. If you aren't going to kill me like you did that mugger, I'll take a chance." She spoke with a shiver as Bai smiled at her answer. He leaned in close and place his mouth over hers, his tongue pushed something round and copper tasting in her mouth. She attempted to spit it out but the ball felt warm as it embedded itself in her tongue.

Maria started to scream as black smoke started to seep from her lung, her eyes, and all of her pores. Maria cried as she was forced to experience every evil thing she had done and the consequence of her actions on her friends, family and strangers. Adharma flowed out of her and standing behind her was a smoky black woman of that looked exactly like Maria. The woman gave a soft growl before fading away into a smaller foo dog, Maria felt as if a great weight was lifted off her back as she no longer held the withdrawal pain from cocaine or the emptiness from so many strangers paying for her body. "Thank you. What happens now?" she mumble slightly around the pearl.

Bai smiled in a feline show of excitement. "Now. You will atone.." Maria felt her body shimmer as she was bathe in a green light. She realize that she felt a soft power growing in her, she felt her teeth elongate, and her vision shimmered as she could see that Bai was glowing with pure energy and only a sliver of darkness in the great brilliance. She realized that she felt another consciousness near her own and looked down to see a smaller foo dog looking up to her. The smaller foo dog was covered in black energy with a small circle of golden light.

"Every female of our kind is split into two types, their offspring which contains many of the adharma we had in our previous lives and their true bodies which is what you are now." Bai spoke while placing a paw on the smaller foo dog in a gesture of parental kindness. "I made you this way because my kind cannot function alone, I see that you have the potential to be at peace with the world and to give back more than you've suffered. You can come with me and I will show you a world that needs help far more than it did when I nothing more than a stone slab."

Maria walked with Bai as they found a homeless shelter. Bai smiled, "Can you feel the horror and desperation of the people here?" Maria looked on, to her physical sight, it looked like a simple shelter like the many that dotted New York. She blinked her eyes and too her new found foo dog eyes, she could see so many atrocities committed against and by the homeless. "This is your task and mine, Maria. We will keep a vigil here, we will heal them and we will heal you." Maria nodded and closed her mouth placing the foo puppy under her paw. As she felt her influence extend to the inside of the building, she gasped as she turned to stone and felt her influence. Her first act of kindness was to replace all the nightmares of those inside with good dreams.

Bai placed his paw on his ball and turned to stone his influence causing the entire area to feel peace and he felt Maria joy as she worked on the homeless. Maria felt an embrace that was more intimate than a lover as she felt Bai's influence around her both protecting and supporting her. She would do what it took to make up for all the hurt she cause but for now she would rest and play with those less fortunate than she was as a human in the world of dreams. Bai smiled on the inside as this was just another day in the life of the foo dog.
