A Long Day: Chapter 1
A story I started working on about my newer character, Gavin. I tried posting it to FA, but got no feedback thus far, so I'm hoping to get some here. Enjoy!
Marked as Adult, if only for foul language. I dunno if it was safe putting it in the lower category, so if you're looking for porn...sorry.
It was a bright, sunny morning. A bit too bright for Gavin, though. As the sunbeams pierced through the cracks of the ruined ceiling, they struck the face of the green feathered hawk. The avian groaned, being rudely awakened by the harsh rays...yet again. He covered his eyes with his large, feathered forearm, and turned to one side to try and sleep more, but it was no use. "Aw...piss." he murmured, propping himself up and bringing his arms up to stretch. He looked down at his bare, cream colored chest, and groggily brushed off some of the dust that had fallen from the ceiling, not giving it much of a second thought. He rested his arm on his knee, and sighed. Another uneventful day, it felt like to him. He looked begrudgingly at the crack on the ceiling, which day-after-day let the sun through to wake him up. A good alarm of sorts, but damn if he didn't want more rest. "Ah well..." he muttered as he swung his legs over the edge of the bed and got up. He grabbed a pair of beige colored cargo shorts that hung on the corner of the bedframe, his favorite pair, and slipped them on.
Ever a bit vain, he stepped over to the cracked mirror he had resting against a wall, and looked himself over. Gavin never wore much, always more concerned about how his coat of feathers looked more than his clothing. Still, he had his preferred pair of shorts, ever flexible for movement, and ever useful for storage with all of its pockets. The only other piece of clothing he wore was a strikingly bright orange colored bandana around his neck, one that matched his eye color, which he wore just about at all times. He fished it out of one pocket and tied it on, and it gave him a sense of comfort he otherwise didn't feel without it. He looked closer in the mirror, and groaned a bit as he tried to style his black-tipped green hair, with his equally black tipped feathery fingers, that had gotten a bit mussed up from sleeping. Once he got it spiked up the way he liked it, he smirked. "Damn, looking good as ever...heh." he cockily muttered.
Before he could do much else, Gavin heard some bestial roars outside. His brow immediately furrowed, and he sighed sharply. "Oh for fuck's sake...piss off, already!" He was used to the beasts that roamed around nearby, but he was never very happy about them. Perhaps good target practice when he had the time and energy, but they were quickly becoming a nuisance to him. He shook his head as he dug into his pocket and fished out his MP3 player, and put on his headphones, the flexible kind that could be compactly folded up. Ah...the bliss of his music. He was feeling particularly agitated, so he threw on some heavy rock music, of which he had plenty. He let out a sigh of relief, losing himself in his own world as he started heading for the door out of his room.
As he exited, he closed the door behind him and looked over the top floor of the rusted old power plant, abandoned by the general populace for decades, which suited Gavin just fine. He didn't have a problem with people, per se, but many did have a problem with him. "Oh well", he thought, "more for me". He leaned over the railing and looked down, and jerked his head a bit, seeing some of the beasts wandering around the floor of the plant.
"Agh, shit! Not again! I just fixed those bloody doors!" he said, perhaps a bit too loudly, as some of the monsters turned to look up at him. "Grah...I don't have time for you today!" He quickly opened the door to his room, grabbed the empty backpack that was sitting by the wall, and threw it on as ran to one end of the catwalk. He reached the window at the end and opened it, jumping out and grabbing onto an exterior support beam for the plant. He slid down at a brisk pace, gripping on tightly to slow his decent a bit, and leaped off when he got near the bottom, landing with a roll on the hard pavement that the building was situated on, negating the impact of his fall. He would have admired his usual finesse, but the beasts around him were getting rowdy, and he set off to dashing quickly out of there, directly through the woods, catching a glimpse of the now broken down front door. "Can't BELIEVE I still have to deal with you wankers!"
He stampeded through the forest, bobbing and weaving as he went along, and climbed up a familiar path of thick branches. As he stood up on a high branch, catching his breath only a little, he looked down at the beasts that were chasing him, having finally caught up with him after a minute. High up he was out of reach, but with them swarming his home, he couldn't go back there just yet. He looked down at them in contempt. "Piss off."
The tree he had ended up on was one of the taller trees in the forest. He turned away from his attackers, and looked out over the horizon. Somewhat off in the distance was the city of Elmsworth, a rather modernized city with plenty of tall buildings and commercial businesses. It has its uses, but generally Gavin shied away from it, unless it was nighttime. Closer by was a town by the name of Edgewood, a town Gavin frequented in order to get the things he needed, with it only being about a mile away. It was a smaller suburban town, mostly filled with residential houses and local businesses, with many people driving to the city to their jobs there. He knew he had to get there to get supplies to fix the door, and a way to deal with the threat of the monsters. Luckily, it's early in the morning, so he'll have plenty of time.
"This is going to be a long day, after all..."
