#12 of Bunny Tails

So here is number two for this week! :3 I thought it was about time for things to heat up again and of course I was right! It was definitely fun to write and I hope it is just as enjoyable to read! In this chapter we see the return of a few characters from the past! As always comments and critiques are greatly appreciated! Now on to the next project for this bunny!

P.S. I hope you all find Kiva as adorable as I do! x3

The room filled with the sounds of typing and the shifting of bodies as the professor droned on about his research into the importance of seagrass to the aquatic environment. It was one of the many tangents Klaus had come to expect from the hours he spent in the second semester of general biology that he was begrudgingly forced to take in order to fulfill the requirements for his degree. It was not that he did not feel the course was necessary, just that this professor in particular had received some poor marks on the online rating system used by students. Fortunately, the exams were not too difficult. Unfortunately, Klaus was forced to sit for three hours at a time listening to a professor lecture on the finer points of cellular metabolism before changing the subject to something completely irrelevant for this course. He wondered if this could be considered cruel and unusual punishment.

The fur next to him shifted in his seat, clearing his throat in a manner that was clearly meant to garner his attention. The bunny turned towards his neighbor with an eyebrow cocked. He did not mean to be rude, but this fur had been increasingly annoying as of late. The husky seated there glanced over at him, giving him a small grin through his red-tipped bangs. He was not a bad looking fur, quite cute actually. His fur was a dark gray and white with the tips of his dark gray hair tipped a luminescent red which did well to complement his eyes, one blue and one yellow. The canine was also very sweet, if a bit overly starved for attention. He had not been sitting there the first two nights of class, moving only to get a better vantage point according to him. Klaus was not so sure that was the only reason.

"Plans this weekend?" He whispered softly, checking intermittently on whether the professor had heard.

Klaus sighed softly. Again he did not mean to be rude, but the husky had already gotten them some unwanted attention by talking the day he exchanged seats. "None that I know of. Probably just studying." Short, yet it was an answer. Why couldn't he just wait until after class was over?

"Ah... so you should come with me to the club. You would fit in perfectly, as cute as you are. By the way, love the new look. That blue really suits you."

Klaus smiled appreciatively at the comment. He was quite pleased with how his hair had turned out. The bun had finally been able to get an appointment to get it cut, and thus had it trimmed to a medium length with his bangs a bit longer and pushed to one side to trail down the right side of his muzzle over one eye. Klaus could not help but see the iridescent blue streaks he had gotten applied to his bangs. Honestly he was worried about the look at first, though Raine had expressed how much she thought the look suited him. Worries all but disappeared later that same day as Miles saw him. He had been a bit sore the next few days.

"I am not sure that would get over too well Kiva..." Cute name for a cute canine. "I mean I will ask Miles to see if he would like to go, but neither of us are very into the club scene."

"Awe well even if he doesn't want to come you still should. He is your mate not your master. Have some fun! Besides, having two cute newbies there would be a blast!"

"Two?"

Kiva smiled and took great care to point discretely towards the other side of the room. Klaus' eyes followed to fall upon a slender fennec fox seated on the row below them. His slender frame and light blonde fur tugged at something within the bunny's mind. The dark brown hair was pulled back into a braid which fell just past his shoulders. There was something so familiar about the vulpine face staring intently towards the front of the room. A moment of staring on Klaus' part rewarded him with a glance from the fennec. He averted his eyes quickly, blushing at how awkward he must seem to a complete stranger. Still, why did he feel like he had met the fox before?

"So?" Kiva jostled him softly with an elbow. "At least think on it..."

"Okay... I will talk to Miles about it tonight." Kiva grinned and his muzzle opened in reply yet the poignant clearing of a throat gave him pause. Obviously their conversation did not go unnoticed. The old raccoon of a professor gave them a warning glare before continuing on with his lecture. The husky winked and sat back to fidget with his pen for the rest of the period. Klaus had known that would happen.

The bunny almost leapt out of his seat once the professor dismissed class. Miles would be waiting for him outside and Klaus could not help but want to see him. His advance towards the door was halted as a forepaw caught his shoulder. Kiva ginned behind him, along with the slight fennec he had pointed out earlier. Klaus just now realized how adorable the fennec really was. The large ears and bright eyes lent him a look of innocence that made even he feel envious. "Klaus I would like to introduce you to someone. Say hi Fellie!"

The fox smiled brightly and all but pushed his way past Kiva in order to extend a forepaw for Klaus's own. The two touched and Klaus saw an immediate change in the canine's demeanor. In an instant he found himself pulled into an embrace which threatened to squeeze the life out of him. "I missed you..." The words whispered into his ear tickled. Why couldn't he remember where he had seen this fur before?

The bunny pulled away as an apologetic smile spread across his face. "I'm sorry... It may be because I had a rough time earlier this year but I can't seem to remember where I have met you before... You seem so familiar."

The fox never wavered, "Awe sweetheart I completely understand! I know what all about what happened... I'm sorry I was not here for you, but that mistake will not be repeated! I am never leaving your side again!"

"I guess I would be stupid to ask if you two know each other." Kiva grinned with delight. "Now you have to come this weekend Klaus!"

"But... "

"Oh hush Kiva. Give us some time to catch up! We will both be happy to join you and your friends there after Klaus and I get reacquainted!"

"Ha, fine you win Fellie. I will give you two some space then! Shoot me a text when you know for sure!" The husky padded off happily, tail swaying along with his hips. Leave it to Kiva to always seem like he is trying to seduce whatever fur happened to cross his path.

"Now then," Stepping back the fox gave Klaus a once over. "You have grown into such a beautiful fur, Klaus. I had no idea you could possibly get any cuter than you were in high school."

High school? Klaus felt something click. A vision of a skinny fox dressed in tattered skinny jeans and an oversized t-shirt formed in his head. Obviously the fur had grown quite shapely since those days. "Fellin?"

A smile that would dazzle the sun brightened the fox's face. "I knew you would remember me!" He threw his arms back around the bunny squeezing tight. "I missed you so much Klaus... I was stupid for ever leaving you!" The two had parted ways after high school due to being accepted into different universities. Fellin must have transferred here at some point. "Klaus? Anybody home?"

"Oh... yeah! Sorry, I have been out of it today." He hadn't been, but it was an excuse for the moment.

"I'm sure things have been a bit rough for you ever since all of that happened back in the spring... But that is all in the past! You can forget about it and have no worries that something like that will ever happen again with me around!"

Forget? Easier said than done. He knew the fennec meant well, but talking about this so nonchalantly was a bit frustrating even if he was not making light of the situation. Besides what could he have done against Chance? The stallion would have broken him in half. Chance... The pain left as quickly as it had come. It was not a physical manifestation, but emotional pain can cut so much deeper. Klaus found his paw trembling and he fought to control himself before Fellin noticed. Luckily the fox was as aloof as ever.

"So... I know this is a bit much to take in at one time but I was thinking we could get together soon and catch up! I mean you could always join Kiva and I at the club, but I was hoping for something a bit more private... Maybe dinner one night? My treat?" His smile seemed so innocent. Klaus smiled back and nodded. It really would be good to have his old friend back. Fellin used to be the only fur the bunny could be himself around.

"I would like that! We have a lot to catch up on! Plus you can meet my mate!"

"Yeah... I would enjoy meeting him! He has to pass inspection right?" He giggled at the comment, "Well I need to get going! See you soon okay? Oh!" The fox scribbled his number onto a sheet of paper and handed it to Klaus. "Text me so I have your number! We can go from there!" With that he padded off, almost skipping as he exited through the door. Klaus sighed and pocketed the slip of paper before exiting himself. The air was a dry and scented with the scents of autumn. Soon it would begin getting cold and the leaves would begin to turn. It was his favorite time of the year as far as foliage goes. Green was nice but nothing truly compared to the colors of the fall.

The bunny found Miles standing at the corner of the building. He was talking with a tall deer who Klaus could not recognize. The two parted as he approached. The buck smiled as he passed, which Klaus happily returned. It was good to see Miles making some new friends. He smile widened as he reached his mate. "Well hello there hot stuff. Looking for a good time?" Klaus placed a forepaw onto the wolf's abdomen, staring up at him with a seductive grin.

"As amazingly sexy as you are, I must decline. My mate would not approve of me picking up strangers." He winked and leaned in. Their muzzles met in a loving kiss that caused the bunny's tail to twitch happily. "Good day in class love?"

Klaus smiled, "not too bad. A bit boring and of course Kiva was pestering me to go to his club again."

"Oh? Well I think we could make it out one night! If you would like to I mean." Miles was always thinking of him.

"I told him we would consider it... For now let's just forget about that." Klaus embraced the canine's arm as they began the short walk to Miles' vehicle. "I ran into an old friend today. It seems he transferred here not too long ago."

"Old friend? Like from high school?"

"Yeah. His name is Fellin. I think I have mentioned him before."

"Ah the fennec right? The one who came out to you?"

Klaus nodded, but refrained from saying another word. Instead he breathed deeply the musky scent of his mate. Miles always smelled so wonderful. The scent was enough to drive his instinct to the forefront of his mind. He refrained from acting on his wants, choosing instead to resume the conversation. "I think you would like him. He has grown really cute since I last saw him."

"Cute huh? Well that's nice. I myself prefer the sexy furs such as yourself. I would like to meet him though. I am always happy to meet your friends!"

"Even Raine?" Klaus grinned.

"Especially Raine. Who else could make me feel more intelligent just by opening her mouth?"

Klaus giggled softly. "Mean..."

"Sir... you have to make a decision... I don't mean to rush you but we are preparing to close." The young lemur smiled up at him apologetically. It was difficult to be upset with such sincerity, especially since he had been so helpful. Unfortunately it did not make his decision any easier. Allahna would like whatever he gave her, but this was her birthday. The feline deserved something special. Yet what would go best with calico fur? And those stunning gold eyes? Everything seemed so dim in comparison.

Brent stroked his chin thoughtfully, a gesture he had been doing almost nonstop since he walked into the small jewelry shop. It was a local place, one that he had always used since it was a point of his to support any local businesses. Plus this particular shop happened to have the best selection and service of any in town. "Well what do you think? She has calico fur, would the white gold or the classic yellow go better? Or maybe platinum?" He really was not suited for this.

The primate sighed audibly, "Sir I told you twice already. The gold will better suit the more earthy colors in her fur. So go with the gold chain and which gemstone would you like? I have a brand new shipment of gemstones in that you could look at."

"Gold it is then... What gemstones would you recommend? I would like something a bit different... yet still suitable."

"Different yet suitable? Well that makes things so much easier..." The frustration was more than evident to the bull. He ignored it. The lemur had a right to be frustrated. "Tell you what, since you set your price at 3,000 I will make you a deal on something she will love. Plus you will be hard pressed to find anyone else wearing this particular gem." He walked to the back and after a brief moment entered cradling a small box in his forepaws. "We got it in last week and have yet to get a chance to make a place for it in the display case. It is called Jeremejevite. Quite rare and in fact we were lucky to get this one. I will give you this one for twenty-five and the gold chain and setting are yours for free."

The small box held a light blue gemstone set in a gold encasement. It was quite pretty, and as clear as he had ever seen in a gem. "Twenty-five you say? You have a deal." It was not something he could pass up. While he had never heard of the gem and should probably be skeptical, there was a certain level of trust that he had to put in the lemur. After all this was his family's business for the past four generations. He smiled and brought out the wad of cash he had brought just for this occasion. The lemur nodded, obviously satisfied with the sale.

"She will love it. If not then just bring it back in and we will exchange it for something she does like. Though I seriously doubt she would turn away such a precious stone." He counted the bills and placed the case in Brent's open forepaws. The bull thanked him and set out for home.

The long walk was spent in contented silence as he allowed his mind to wander. Of course his first thoughts fell on Allahna. His mate was waiting for him at their home not too far from the edge of town. The two had made the decision to rent together in order to save a bit of money, though the bovine had no real need to save seeing as how wealthy his family was. Still, he could not argue with the sensibility of the decision to move in together. Not to mention that it had been something he had already decided he desired. The feline had changed his life for the better and he knew that no one would ever make his heart stir like she did. Love was not something he had ever given a thought until her. His parents of course had expressed their concern about the sudden decision to move in together after not even one year of dating. They were not difficult to appease, Allahna even had a way with them. Besides if something did happen he would gladly pay off the rent for the remainder of her time there. It was the least he could do.

"Yo Brent!" The sound of his name caught his attention. The bull turned towards the voice to find an overly muscular beaver approaching him. "Hey man! How's it going?"

"Geez Tony you are huge! Been hitting the juice with the rest of the team?" He smiled politely. He was not really in the mood to speak with the beaver, yet he could not turn away the one who had informed him about the incident with Klaus and Chance.

"No man, I don't touch the stuff. This is all me! I won't be caught unable to handle myself like last time." He smiled overeagerly. He had never forgiven himself for what he considered cowardice hat day. Even though Brent had tried to convince him that it took guts to call him and Raine. Poor guy had ended up beaten and bloodied about a week later. Obviously Brent should have broken more arms than just those of the twins.

The bovine motioned for the beaver to walk with him. They did live in the same neighborhood so it made sense to stay together. "So? No more trouble from your so-called teammates I hope."

"Nah, they haven't messed with me anymore. From what I hear with the exception of a few there is a general sense of regret throughout."

"Huh... I wish I could say I am not surprised. Sadly I did not think any of them would regret their actions. I'm sure Raine probably had something to do with this though. She was pretty set on threatening each and every fur involved with what Chance got even though I thought I talked her out of it."

"Actually it is more of the fact that once rumor gets out that you raped someone it is kind of hard to live comfortably. I don't think I have seen any of them with a female since."

That was a more than satisfying detail. As much as Brent wanted to hear more, it was best that he change the subject lest he return to his brooding. The two furs talked of everything from past games to their own personal lives. The day began to run dark as they neared their mutual neighborhood. They rounded the corner when Brent saw the beaver fall. Tony landed hard on his face, blood gushing from the back of his head. The back of his head? The bovine turned just in time for the lead pipe to meet his jaw. His vision swam and his peripheral began to darken. Just before losing consciousness he saw two dark figures step up to them. "Payback is a bitch eh Brent?" Gerhard....
