Save Point: How to Build A Sphinx

The Khem Delta

One of the other members of the committee is a very deeply black-coloured sethuress with lots of gold tattoos, gilded scarifications and bangles. Her horns have seen decorated so as to spread out into multi-branching antlers, also in shining gold. She's sort of louche, lying back easily on a couch with her legs spread and nothing on but her bangles, without the least embarrassment.

Cleo is introduced to her and discovers that her name apparently translates as something akin to 'statistical luck variation that benefits you at the expense of your enemies' and so asks if she can call her Jynx, which is much more pronounceable. (Cleo's name also has a meaning, but its being short and simple to pronounce even in sethura means she doesn't have to go into explanation).

The newly dubbed Jynx agrees and happily declares that she'd like to make this her new 'human-name' which is essential for a sethura if the original is impossibly challenging. Previous attempts, mostly involving the words for lucky or chance, have failed to appeal to her or to capture the extra element of benefiting deservedly at others expense. The word fortune came very close, but wasn't quite what she was looking for.

Jynx is exuberantly happy and there is much hugging and affectionate slapping of shoulders, then Tryanya brings out the plans for their sculpture on a piece of smart-paper like a map.

She pins down the corners with various available objects, sethura chalice-cups contrasting oddly with the rough clay mugs made out of the local sediment, then commands the surface to become rigid so they can remove their beverages and drink to the success of their project.

Blocks of stone are being clean-cut from their place and then stacked up next to the resulting outcrop, explains Tryanya, to create a shape initially envisaged as a sort of crouching sethuress or sethura, but some complications have arisen with this as a result of ongoing world events...

"They sphinx'd me," declares Cleo, with great relish, as she bounds back home through the front door of the mud-brick house that is their temporary workers accommodation in the Khem delta. Far better places are available, but Cleo has jumped at the chance to have a house to themselves. "That one Tryanya certainly is aptly named."

It turns out that Tryanya is not in fact short for 'trying it on you' in Khemi, but is in fact the name of one of the sethuresses who, in their spare time, are working on a large-scale sculpture initially intended to memorialise their arrival and provide a focal point for their project to get to know the human race. It was going to be a stylish sort of nude of a sethuress lying down and looking over her forearms, but with the collapse of Azatlan, the plan has been reconsidered in light of recent events. The Rama Empire is interesting but still fearfully militant, and the Khemi learn quickly but are still way behind. The whole plan for gradual cultural integration and development has, in fact, fallen in the sorbance pit (to quote Tryana on the matter). Whilst they are gaming new solutions on a daily basis, it's still a split vote as to whether they should stay on, or go visit some other worlds for a couple of centuries, and come back to see how things have settled out.

Given the ongoing split vote, it has been tentatively decided that the sculpture should probably not be of a sethuress after all, because it would ruin their deniability if they were to pack up and move out. A rough shape has already been cut down out of the local numalitic limestone, and the excavated blocks stacked up to form a suitable outcrop, but the 'Jiargnei Committee' can't decide what else to carve in its place. As a result they've been running round measuring all manner of things, mostly local wildlife, to find something that would fit into the same shape.

Cleo, in a quite literally monumental outburst of possibly justified egotism, has decided that she would be perfect for the statue and has successfully, it turns out, been lobbying the sculpturesses for consideration. Points in her favour include her questionable status as part of the local wildlife, her ability to curl up into the same cat-pose, and careful measurements of the curvature of her ass after she raised her haunches a little.

Terrowne finds that he is forced to hold doubts as to whether the sethuresses actually wanted to see the outlines of Cleos haunches as a matter of design integrity. This is mainly because he thinks that she is trying to sleep her way into being the national monument of Khem. Since Cleo already knows this, she teases him with an ongoing summary of her adventures in modeling and her progress in seducing the members of the committee.

"I liked having Tryanya measure me," she tells him with mock innocence. "She gave me the most shivery-good feeling when she pushed me into position, and ran those rough sculptors hands and burnished worn clawnails across my quivering haunches."

She springs up onto a low table made out of a large rough-cut stone block, and crouches there with her knees spread wide, facing away from him and flipping her single layer linen kirt up over her tail. To give him a clear view of her naked body, as she stretches sinuously from side to side and runs her hands over her own haunches like a stripper, and then begins to masturbate.

"I think she likes me," she adds, breathing roughly. "I might visit her again a little later."
